We experienced Hungry Al at a wedding we attended. They catered the meal. The food was absolutely delicious. The brisket was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The sausage was amazing. Slightly spicy and juicy. My wife raved about the Mac and cheese. She chatted with the woman who was serving and was told that it's made with 4 cheeses and a special, secret, family ingredient. As we were spending the night in Frazier Park, we walked over to visit the restaurant. We spoke briefly with young man at the counter about the food. He told us that Al makes the salsa. Brilliant. The food here was top-tier -- my husband found this place in yelp and I'm so glad we gave it a chance. If you want old fashioned, homestyle barbecue just a little off the freeway where the owner himself walks around and talks to the customers, this is your place. The tri-tip and pork ribs were smoky, with just the right amount of barbecue sauce. Potato salad is probably like your mom made, and the baked beans are both sweet and spicy, with a bit more kick than you realize until after you finish the bite. The ambiance is old school, with a pool table and Harley banner, and you have to go outside to the bathrooms. They're dated and a bit worn, but the women's smelled like bleach and was obviously being kept clean. Hungry Al enjoys talking with the customers, and other staff was friendly and efficient. Driving through and didn't want to stop at another fast food place so stopped here instead. We got the tri-tip, hot link, Mac and cheese and beans and it all was delicious. Would definitely recommend the food. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars was because you aren't able to get more than one meat on a plate...you have to buy an entire second combo with the additional sides, and It was a bit overpriced for what I'm used to....I'm used to getting a 2-3 meat plate for the same price we paid for one. And then they tack on the $ to cover the credit card surcharge which by my estimate was nearly 4%. Ugh. But overall food was awesome and staff was kind. Wow! I'm surprised that this place is in business. I bought a pulled pork sandwich. The meat looks several days old. The meat tastes burnt, with no flavor. The bread is stale and hard, not edible. It comes with a side. I got beans. They taste like have been cooked or reheated 5 or 6 times. I also bought a ribs meal combo. 23.99$ comes with 3 small ribs 2 sides and bread. I got Mac and cheese, potato salad, and the bread is a wheat kings Hawaiian roll. The Mac and cheese is soggy and tastes like they made it flavorless on purpose. The potato salad is salt less and tastes like it was made from a packet from the store. The roll is dried out and stale. I also bought a side of sausage. We were hungry after going up on the Grapevine towards LA. We looked for a place to eat nearby and yelp delivered Hungry Al's BBQ. We stopped to see how it looks like, and just getting out of the car. the smell of barbecue was so appeasing that we didn't need a second incentive to decide. Started talking to the gentleman preparing the barbecue outside. Super friendly guy, he recommended his fresh brisket so we went with his recommendation - delicious, delicious meat, with a side of coleslaw and bbq beans. Both of us cleaned the plate. Headed here after a long hike. Ordered the ribs for $24 and got 3 (three)! ribs. For $24? They were ok, not great. Beans were good, potato salad not so much. Pool table jammed, 2 balls missing. Let the record show that our dining experience was great at this local smokehouse. From the exterior it looks like they can get quite a crowd in but have plenty of seating areas and multiple smokers. This was a quiet evening in the off season and we were welcomed by warm and friendly staff. Our food came quickly and was delicious! The hot links were a bit spicy (good!) and the bbq sauce sweet and smokey. The brisket was tender, juicy and had a hint of pepper. It too was slathered in that yummy bbq sauce. Stopped here on the way home to LA. Randomly came across this spot & I'm so glad I did!! The food was amazing! (I only got one pic lol). The service was even better! The woman in the front with short blonde hair was the sweetest. The restrooms were also super clean. Stopped by on the way to the Tejon Outlets. Out of the food we ordered, the pulled pork was the best, it only if you put the bbq sauce on it. The brisket was a bit try and what they call Mac n cheese was more like shells and some sort of dry sauce. The coleslaw was way over dressed. YMMV. If you have been reading my reviews, especially when it comes to brisket you know where my heart is. I was traveling and looked for restaurants in the area. I saw this BBQ come up and had to try it out. I ordered the brisket and pork ribs to go. The brisket was very tender but why do you add BBQ sauce to it? The smoked flavor should sell it. That sauce takes away the flavor.Disappointed. Don't add the sauce. The pork ribs were tough. This place is new and hopefully changes how they do BBQ. I must add the staff gets 5 Stars!
