Update: 6 years later and I'm still a customer. I've tried almost 80% of their dishes. But I'm still loving the lamb dishes. Saagwala, bhindi, and rogan josh. The rich pudding is always spot on. My recommendations are; lamb handi, lamb bhuna, and lamb dalcha. Also the vegetable soup is so good. It has an array of vegetables. If you prefer vegetable dishes... go for the punjabhi mushroom with rice. As long as they are in business. I'll keep ordering. By the way, another update. Never been here before, until a few days back. A friend swore by it, I'm glad I came in. The vegan dishes they have here are mind blowing, very good. I got their fish (salmon) tikka masala. the order comes with a whole takeout container of rice which i initially thought was a lot but it turned out to be about the right amount. i finished my order in one sitting. i did have to force the last few bites but it was really good. the tomato flavor really came through and the cream kept the sauce light and easy to eat. there are decently sized chunks of salmon which is great because there is nothing else in this dish- no veggies onions or anything. i was happy with it though. flavor was great and i was full. would order from here again although it was a little pricey. read more

Indian food is one of my favorite. And I always go for the Tiki Masala. I found Hungry Bird listed on UberEats, so I ordered some chicken tiki masala to be delivery to me at school. The delivery time took less than 30 minutes, and the food arrived warm and freshly cooked. I was very impressed by the portions, as usually most restaurants will try to skimp customers on the meat portions. The meal came with the tiki masala, and an equally generous amount of rice. This order was sufficient to make two meals. The first meal served as a great post-workout meal, and the other for lunch the next day. Hungry Bird was definitely a good choice for Indian food. Yet another one of my "must try" restaurant... ooooh I was beyond happy. Indian food is one of my favorite. It's been a while that I have had some good authentic Indian food until I found Hungry Bird listed on Yelp, so I ordered Shrimp tandoori with basmati rice. (I love there rice). And chicken curry with basmati rice and garlic na bread. The delivery time took about 30 minutes, and the food arrived warm and freshly cooked. I was very impressed by the portions. The order was sufficient to make two meals. The first meal the shrimp tandoori came with about 6 jumbo fresh shrimp onions, carrots, and tomato's, the portions was a good size that I had left over for lunch the next day. Very flavorful, spices where all on point. The chicken curry was made with all white meat (chicken breast) the curry sauce was very good not over powering the chicken was very moist too. This spot was definitely a good choice for Indian food. I would definitely be ordering from them again! And yes! I recommend them to anyone in the Bronx area. read more

Another delivery during COVID 19. Delivery was fast and efficient and the food was hot. I got the chicken vindaloo, the chicken tikka masala, naan, and fried potatoes. The vindaloo had some spice and the chicken was tender. The chicken tikka's flavor was fine, but it was very mild, and I'm used to more spice and heat. The fried potatoes were just French fries, and were soggy upon arrival, but I'm not sure that could be helped because of the delivery. Overall, I'm glad I tried this place, and would try more things from there. For delivery, I would order earlier in the evening. I ordered around 7:30 and they had sold out of a lot of items. on 9/3 I decided to order from Hungry Bird via UberEats as I was hungry and needed something to eat for dinner after work. I ordered from this spot at about 9:50pm (10mins before they were closing per UberEats). I don't know if restaurant workers get upset when you order something prior to closing so they just say "**** you" when making your food but I found a staple, piece of plastic wrapper and an unidentifiable black object in my food... This is a huge safety hazard as I could have choked on that staple and then this business would of been sued. They're lucky that if didn't go that way and I actually inspect my food before eating as I have OCD when it comes to how my food is prepared.. I am just utterly disgusted with how my food was given to me. I did reach out to UberEats and they did issue me a full refund (as they should), but I feel like this concern should have been taken further by posting my thoughts and experience on the web. Something like this would have gotten their business shut down by the Health Department. read more

It's amazing to have a Indian/Pakistani restaurant in the South Bronx. I found this place with a Groupon, and tried a bunch of different dishes (check pics). I gotta say, I've grown up on this type of food and as much as I wanted to love it, I didn't. The tawa chapati isn't thin as it should be, it's pretty thick like a thick Patani roti. And the fish (Talapia) tikka masala was not impressive. The fish didn't taste like it was cooked in the sauce, more like added to the sauce during preparation. I did think the samosas and chutneys were really good, and make for a great quick bite. Overall, I'm happy to see more ethnic cuisine popping up in the area, hopefully with time they'll make improvements! But, for now I have my regular spots for Desi food. Happy Yelping! read more

This was my first time trying Indian food and I'm so happy I ordered from here, and now have a local place to try more dishes. Generally, I love humble cooking, flavorful and hearty food I ordered off Uber eats, got a great promotion.. meanwhile, the service was fast and seamless. My food was still hot, and considering I ordered late (which I don't usually do bc delivering near close time is one of my rules for take out; just a big NO.) Took the risk after a long day and I'm hungry BUT my food was so yummy and as if it was just made, packed neatly and correctly. Vegetable Samosas come in 2 per order. Chicken Tikka Masala is one serving however, all this food is so filling that it can be for 2 or great leftovers. Great service! Decent food! Laid back dining experience! Walking by quickly you may mistake it for your typical neighborhood chinese spot. But when you walk in you get a little piece of India heaven. Very clean, smells heavenly and very welcoming. You can sit down, order take out or get delivery. I ordered chicken tikka masala because that's what I use when I know I may only go to an Indian restaurant once and it's easily comparable. First bite, I would have raved about it. The chicken was tender and sauce was slightly too tomato-y for me but seasoned well with spices. But then some of the pieces of chicken tasted kind of rubbery. Yuck. I hate that. The naan was good and so was the rice. It was very affordable and they gave us the lunch special eventhough we technically just missed the hours where they said they would serve it. After having little success finding "good" ethnic food in the Bronx, I was very delighted to have had experienced Hungry Bird. Fortunately, I was able to find parking in front of the store... However finding parking might be an issue for some, especially around dinner time. If driving isn't your thing, the location is very accessible by public transportation or you can easily pull a cab. The service was exceptional! It was a bit cold when we walked in, but the waiter had no problem in providing us with a portable heater. The place seems to be relatively new and there was currently no guest restroom but the staff was courteous enough to allow us into the employee restroom. The food was great.. We had Samosas as an appetizer-- entrees: chicken tikka masala, chicken saagwala, curry chicken (all three entrees came with beautifully plated basmati rice) accompanied with regular naan bread. Really a 3.5 but rounded up for quick and hot delivery. This is one of those frustratingly inconsistent places. I typically go for a type of curry. Most recently the chicken vindaloo combo. Decent deal comes with (small) app, rice and naan. This time around I got the tandoori chicken as the app and it was incredibly dry and overcooked and had flavor but no salt at all. None of the chutneys helped. The vindaloo also needed some help with flavor. They get the spices right, but forget to add salt to enhance those essential flavors is the theme here. When it comes to the food, I feel they can alter the seasoning and recipe of the food a bit. I ordered 3 menu items which included the Chicken tikka masala, the Achari Begun, and garlic naan. The chicken tikka masala was very flavorful and quite tasty. The garlic naan was okay, it didn't really have much garlic flavor and wasn't as good as other places I've tried. The Achari Begun is what really drove me to give 3 stars. This is the only Indian Cuisine I could find in my area and I feel really lucky because this place is great. The food was so so tasty! I ordered the Chicken Biryani and Chicken Tikka Masala. About half the menu is vegetarian and we loved what we got. The mushroom and paneer were excellent. The samosas were stuffed with potatoes and tasty. The onion fritters were overcooked though. Food was great, waiter was excellent in suggesting a dish and describing them. Service was excellent. I have eaten there a couple of other times and had a great experience. Good ambiance and they allowed us to go in with our lapdog service animal in training even though they were not too familiar with laws. They were interested in learning more for future clients that may come with a service animal or customer complaints of allowing a dog and know what to ask and say as far as their rights etc. Thus able to explain that by law they have to accept service animals due to owner handicap whether physically or mentally.
