Baingan bharta (eggplant curry) is really good. Flavor is spot on, and it's a good portion as well. Malai kofta is decent. The actual kofta balls are pretty flavorful, but the sauce is quite sweet and a little bland. Overall a good experience and would order from here again. read more

My partner and I ordered the chicken makhni, the chicken Karahi, and garlic naan for pickup. I had read other reviews about service but wasn't too scared off... though I should have listened to them. When we arrived at our pickup time, we were asked our name by a harried looking employee who was dealing with about 8 delivery drivers. When she addressed us, I told her we had ordered online and she said "Which one? We have about 8 websites" which I thought a bit brusque. We then sat there for about 15 minutes, watching delivery drivers wait, get tired of waiting, then go into the kitchen to look for their pickup bag. Finally, I looked on the counter piled with takeout bags, where, lo and behold, our food had been waiting the whole time. The mahkni was overly sweet and pretty one note, and seemed as though it was made from frozen grilled chicken strips. The Karahi was good and more tender. Unfortunately not worth it- there are other, better Indian restaurants nearby that I'll go to next time. read more

Okay... this would've been a 5-star rating, but the customer service left a lot to be desired. This is a simple restaurant but nothing about the food is simple. The food was DELICIOUS! Complex, layered flavors, robust textures... whew, I live in the DC area, but honey... I have been thinking about this restaurant nonstop and can't wait to get back to NYC to have it again. Things to note, they do not have a bar, but you can bring your own bottle. We didn't know that, so we ordered a bottle to be delivered to the restaurant via Uber Eats. The decor in this restaurant is so beautiful! The host and the cook were arguing the whole time I was there in another language. I don't know if they were actually arguing but it sounded like it and I was the only person in the restaurant so I couldn't ignore it lol. Silly me for not including Mumbai Masala in my rotation until now! Quality eats, great packaging, and solid delivery. Delivery arrived pretty quickly. Everything was correct and very well packaged. Especially the rice! I wish every restaurant serving every cuisine that uses rice used these containers. Loved them! And they have the best basmati of the couple Indian restaurants I've tried in the area. The couple of meals I worked my way through: Saag Gosht: this one was really nice. Little lamb cubes hidden throughout, with every one being fork tender and seasoned so well they could stand alone. They definitely leveled up the already delicious and tender saag. This will likely be added to my order every time. Jhinga Moilee: also very nice. Loved the thick curry. Tails are on the shrimp...so don't be afraid of having to get that curry on your fingers! Nice heat that built a little as you go, and was balanced with the sweet coconut. Will repeat order this item, too! Keema Mutter: tasty dish! The lamb was cooked perfectly. Good flavor...though the first time I've had it taste sweet. It tasted like a pasta sauce with Indian spices. This isn't a bad thing...though noteworthy. Loved the fresh peas...but wish they had been more than blanched since they were a bit too firm for my liking in this particular dish. I'd still order again. Lassi (Mango) - clearly good since I downed this very generously portioned tasty treat before I remembered to take a picture. It made for a very nice breakfast on its own. I adore Mumbai Masala- the service is always great, and the food is amazing. The owner happened to be our server this past Sunday, and he was delightful. We had a chat about their sister Thai restaurant next door, (haven't tried yet) and he also took a genuine interest in us, and our preferences. I had the chicken vindaloo- and explained that the spicier the better! (Humble brag- I have a certificate for eating "the hottest Phaal in the world" at another spot) he took my input and had my vindaloo heat turned up a few notches - it was delicious! The garlic naan was also delightful. My friends loved their dishes too. (One was the butter chicken, can't remember the other but it has shrimp) Here's a very important #ProTip They do not serve alcohol- BUT- You can BYOB- they have glasss and serve it for you as if you bought if from their own wine room. My only regret? I didn't post this sooner! I've been there so many times over the past few years... and the service and quality have not changed a bit! Always 100! Our first time trying this place and we got take out. I told the person on the phone we WERE regulars at Clove, and we will be comparing. The person that took my order possibly the owner actually took the time to call me to follow up and ask if we liked our food. That was nice, knowing they value my opinion and their reputation. A+ We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, which was great because the chicken was cut into perfect size chunks not too big, and meat was tender and tasty, Not chewy and dry like our previous spot. Samosas were very good, well seasoned and had good crisp to it. My onion bread was very good, and the masala tea was delicious. Next time we will dine in and I will post an update. We just spent a week in Harlem New York and the Christmas Eve dinner we had here was transcendent! The service and warmth of the owners was a 10. We eat Indian in LA and it made that food taste like a 5. This restaurant is A 10+. It is why will travel back to Harlem just to eat here. We begged them to move and bring there food to LA. Positives: Good Quantity, Value for money, tastes authentic to a good extent, friendly staff, good flavors. Negatives: Ambience and lighting could be made better , spice levels need to be adjusted based on people's needs as I found the food less spicy, food could be made more exquisite and tastier with more of spicing and have a dash of lemon. We had so much butter chicken and rogan josh curry that two of us couldn't eat it all in one sitting...and that's ok, because it tastes just as good warmed up a day later! Top favorites include: chili Golbi (vegetarian appetizer), the saag, the tiki masala, the AMAZING kind of tandoorish chicken wings (appetizer), quite literally everything I've eaten there is a favorite. There's a bathroom, they do take out. the atmosphere is completely Fine, and if you sit near the front by the windows the lighting is really nice. If you order delivery they are FAST as hell, and the food is always hot! CONS | if you're ordering take out/delivery don't bother getting the naan, it gets all steamed in the delivery process and just isn't as good. A good sign for the food, bad for customer service. That aside. I loved of the main five dishes I ordered. 2 veggie, 3 meat. The lamb vindaloo is so perfectly spicy. The dal makni was very good. I almost licked the take out container that had the chicken tikka masala, if you like butter chicken, get this, the sauce is better than one's average "creamy curry that is not too spicy" . Saag paneer was decent, could have used a few more pieces of paneer. The pakora were okay, but they were take-out, so they will get soggy. Meat samosa I won't order again, the meat was dry, but they gave lots of very lovely chutney's to go with it. But I would rather order a sixth main dish for the price of the two appetizers. I will most definitely be ordering from here again, but will still go get it myself, because it will be faster when they have a busy night. read more

So far the best Indian food I've had around Washington Heights and Harlem although not as good as some places downtown. Overall I'd recommend it if you live up here! I ordered delivery both times - first time I had chicken tikka masala with naan and second time I had goat vindaloo with paneer naan. Chicken tikka masala was great, flavor on point but chicken was a bit drier than other places I've had. Goat vindaloo was fire though - pretty oily but the goat was so tender! Extremely rude woman behind the counter, she dyed her hair white and not sure what stuff she used to dye her hair but it messed significantly with her attitude!! She is also very rude to delivery people as well which to me is a red flag for a restaurant. We ordered the Sheek kebab and when arriving home we discovered it was still RAW!!! I loved the food I got to go (lamb lunch box, chili gobi & mango lassi). It was very well packaged and the dal was delish. Not a full 5 because the wait was long, like 20mins, even though I was the only person in the entire restaurant. Another minor thing; upon entering, there was no genial greeting or inquiry as to what I would like. I had to walk all the way to the back where two guys looked mildly annoyed that I had interrupted their phone time. Will go back though and hope others go too.
