We love the food here and went in person back in the fall. When we sat down, seating was where you wanted to sit, they have two larger tables with bench seating and the. Some folding tables and chairs on their patio (outdoor seating) and also tables inside. The restroom was quaint and clean! Perfecto! Our dine-in experience felt different than our take away experience. We had larger portions in person than take away (in my opinion) and it was easier to distinguish the dishes in person. All in all, both experiences were great - giving a 4 due to the website saying pickup in 30-40 minutes, but it was ready in like 10 minutes. I called ahead to ask which curry had food color, and they confidently recommended the Paneer Makhani. Big mistake. When it arrived, it looked nothing like the real thing -- just Google what Paneer Makhani is supposed to look like. Most Indian restaurants in the U.S. (especially in the South, not NY) throw in a bit of color to make dishes look "Indian," but this one went all out. The dish had maybe five tiny pieces of paneer -- all bright pink, thanks to the food dye -- and that pretty much killed my mood and appetite. It tasted like pasta sauce mixed with sugar and a dash of regret. Loved it here! Food was so good and flavorful, the naan was perfectly fluffy and garlicky/buttery, the rice was delicious, and our server was very attentive! You also get a good amount of food for the price- I easily made two meals out of my dish, especially with filling up on the naan. Additionally, the rice comes with the entrees and you can order as much as you want. Personally, my favorite was the Chicken Madras, which was a little spicy with a lot of creamy flavor. My friends got the 1/2 tandoori chicken, which get out on a steaming plate, and the salmon tikka which I thought was lacking in flavor a bit. My only complaint was that I felt the food needed more salt but that's more of a personal preference and once I added the salt, it was delicious! We started with vegetarian Samosa, a vegetable platter both of which were complemented by delicious sauce/dip. As mains we had the mango salmon (my fav this evening: absolutely splendid, smooth, creamy, sweet/salty - a dream), paneer makhani (a tomato based paneer dish), as well as a chicken korma. Really without exception, the dishes were on point and just a pure pleasure to combine with garlic naan and rice. I've eaten here several times over the years and tried different dishes. I find the food is lacking in flavor, lots of it. I was told the entrees don't come with rice and you have to order it separately! Since when did that change?? I couldn't find any items or verbiage that supported this either. I argued the point and was told they would give me rice like they were doing a loyal customer a big favor. However, The ambience especially sitting outdoors is wonderful. Indian cuisine is one of my favorite types, so I knew I wanted to try this spot out. This place is super cozy and adorable with lovely decor, along with pretty lighting. For my drink, I had the Mango Lassi and it was sweet, creamy, and refreshing but a little bit on the small side. My friend and I also shared the garlic naan. This was sooo tasty! The naan was still warm, slightly crispy, irresistibly buttery, and actual bits of garlic, giving it that satisfying strong garlic taste. I ordered one of the duck dishes for my main course, because I found that to be a unique protein offered at an Indian restaurant. I went with the Battakh Khumb Wala, which consisted of crispy duck breast and mushroom in a sauce of almond-saffron sauce. The duck was nice and crunchy, as well as tender and full of flavorful seasoning, such as garlic and ginger. The almond-saffron sauce was the perfect accompaniment and well balanced. The meal came with rice, which was served to us with a red heart in a green border. This was such a sweet touch. I also got to try the vegetable samosa and tandoori chicken. The outside skin was wonderfully light and crispy. There was an ample amount of potatoes and peas inside with bold flavors of different spices. The tandoori chicken came on a sizzling platter with onions, green pepper, as well as lettuce. There was also a side of yummy savory sauce. The chicken had a bright red exterior with a slight char and was so easy to cut into. Service was excellent and we were well taken care of by our friendly waiter. My friend and I checked out this spot on the last day of indoor dining in NYC. We thought it would be packed but we were the only patrons for the majority of our dining. The staff were very attentive, friendly and professional and followed COVID safety protocol. Our server helped with questions we had about menu items. The Mango Lassi is not real sweet and has great flavor. If you order something spicy or rich in flavor, wait until the food arrives before you enjoy this. The Mulligatawny soup is pretty blah. I expected more and got less. Less is not more when it comes to soup. For my entree, I got the Mango Chicken per a coworkers suggestion. It comes with some rice. When I say some, it is a fair amount. They also bring out your entree with some fairly decent sized portions of garlic naan. All of which tastes great. The mango sauce comes through beautifully with the chicken. The garlic naan is a great sidekick, and the rice is like that wrestler that enters the match late to really determine the winner, which the chicken clearly is here. Now read this carefully. You get one free portion of garlic naan with your meal. There is a charge after the first basket if you want more. They do NOT tell you this. However... There have been imposters and wannabe restaurants that try to con you in for something special - and for a time they can seem invincible. But in the end they always fall. Think of it - always.
