Kismat is a gem in Washington Heights, I've had the food here too many times to count and it's been consistently good. My favorite is the vegan tofu saag, it's made with coconut milk and it's creamy with the tofu holding the perfect texture. Their chana masala and salmon tandoori are also great options that I've tried. Their naan is some of my favorite from Indian restaurants in the city, impossible to order here without it. While I usually get takeout, I recently dined in during lunch and tried the lunch special which was a great deal. $12.95 for the vegetarian option and a dollar or two more for meat/seafood. It comes with hot or iced tea, a few mini samosas, rice, a lunch-portioned entree and half of a naan. Service was quick and there's plenty of seating inside. There were also signs posted up that they're starting an AYCE brunch on the weekends. This is the best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. It is really fancy and nice with lots of copper cups and silverware. It is really big and spacious with a bar. What I love about Kismat is the chicken tikka masala! It tastes different than other Indian restaurants. They cook it differently and have other ingredients they put in their chicken tikka masala. They put green bell peppers and large chunks of onions in their tikka masala. It's not that creamy or tomato like your typical chicken tikka masala plate. They also give a lot of food. Saffron rice is very soft and long grain, making it very easy and nice to chew. Just love the texture of the rice. I also love the chutney sauces they provide in every dish you order. I love the green sauce the best! It is very sweet and I would always decorate the sauce all over the rice and the chicken. Very good mix! My 2nd favorite chutney is the onion chutney. It is spicy and goes well with the chicken and rice. Their garlic naans are very big and round and tastes well with the chutneys. Lots of garlics bits inside the naan. I also get their mango lassi and it is very good! Not too sweet and just perfect creamy consistency that makes it very addicting to drink until it's all gone! It is always gone so fast! read more

I marvel at the differences between Indian, Thai and West Indian curry--all of which I love. I ordered online and the deliveries were fast and professional. I will be ordering from there again. I went to this pretty standard northern Indian restaurant a good while ago after a walk with a large group of others. The inside is nice and the service was pretty friendly answering people's questions for our rather large group. Presuming by the photo, I had a beer to drink. They gave us some papadum and some chutney to begin. The papadum was standard while the tamarind chutney being a tad sweet and the mint one being a bit watery. The menu is pretty easy for newcomers with a lot of the menu being a variety of your standard curries with a choice of protein. They have a surprising amount of beef on the menu (with one of the specials being beef based and them even having burgers) which is a little bit surprising. I went with the vindaloo with mixed seafood which has crab, tilapia, scallops, and shrimp. The vindaloo was fine with a good amount of heat and some sourness. There was a surprising amount of seafood inside though some of it didn't exactly taste the freshest. It was fine and the price was pretty reasonable for the large portion. It's not the best Indian food I've had but definitely not the worst. If I was in the area again, I'd presumably go with the kebabs or something and avoid the seafood/generic curries. Probably an upper 2 helped by the pretty reasonable prices. read more

We ordered from here recently through Uber Eats. We hadn't eaten Indian food in a while so it was refreshing to try something new. Kismat is located right in Washington Heights so it was a quick delivery. We ordered chicken tikka masala and a couple of naans. The pricing was expensive but that is the standard for Indian food these days. The food came by quickly and was still warm and ready to eat. The food was not the standard spicy food filled with flavor. The chicken tikka masala was very dry and bland. I was expecting it to be filled with flavor but sadly it was not. The naans were large and filling which is to be expected when they cost $4.50 each. The food was okay but not great. Sadly, I was not very impressed with the quality of Indian food here. read more

I finally got to try this lovely Indian restaurant out. The interior was colorful and decorative with a cozy ambiance. I ordered the Mixed Seafood Kurma and Garlic Cheese Naan to go. The Seafood Kurma consisted of shrimp, tilapia, crab, and scallop. It was absolutely delicious with tons of seafood throughout the dish, especially tilapia and crab. The tilapia was wonderfully tender and flaky. Shrimp was juicy and succulent. The crab was light and well seasoned. Scallops were soft, yet meaty. Sauce was delightfully savory and bold in flavor with various spices. The Garlic Cheese Naan was oh so tasty. The melty cheese and strong taste of garlic was the perfect combination, making for mouthwatering bites. Service was good and I received my food in a timely manner. The pricing was very reasonable. The Chana masala was tasty and the chickpeas had a nice texture. They seem to rest on their laurels of having been there for a long time. Just moved into the neighborhood and came here for dinner last week. The first thing was how welcoming the hostess was, the way she welcomed me made me feel like I was a regular or a part of the family. Such a nice vibe. I had a simple order: a beer, chicken tandoori with rice and a naan. I'm not sure if they make their own naan, but it was so soft and flavorful it was great. We've been here many times and it's always been lovely and delicious. This time though we hosted my father-in-law's memorial here and they were so kind and wonderful. They had a great projector set up for us for displaying photos and a PA system so people could give remembrances. The food was wonderful and they were all so very kind to us. It's been a while since we've been back to Kismat. So long that we noticed they expanded. While the expansion looked decent, the food was not how we remember. The chicken tikka masala tasted as if old chicken was used and was salty. The sag paneer lacked flavor and the peas were rock hard. The cleanliness was also lacking. We received a drink in a cup that still had lipstick stains and the water carafe had food remnants/particles stuck inside. We saw some of the same staff we used to see many years ago and that was a pleasant sight. The service overall was just ehh. I really hope this changes for the better. read more

The chutneys, a mint chutney, and an onion pineapple chutney were very good and added flavor on the outside! The sahina, which is spinach and lentil pea patties, were delicious, especially with the sauce. The chicken tandoori, which I ordered hot, was moist and juicy. The only downside is because of how it is cooked on the bone, the spice is generally only on the outside, and isn't throughout. Flavors still good. Each order also comes with cabbage, which was ok, but not the best cabbage I've ever had, as well as dal. The dal was thick and creamy and well seasoned. Delivery was fast and the order was right. Happened to dine in on Tuesday with my wife as the place was bumping thanks to live jazz night. Loved to see locals taking turns in playing music while there were hot, fresh meals served around. Haven't had Indian food in a long time, but this place was really good! We got seated quickly, the food was prompt and the staff was friendly. My wife really enjoyed the shrimp curry. I got the chicken tikka masala which was also great. Chicken/vegetable samosas are a must try! I wish the garlic naan had a stronger garlic flavor, but it was ok. This is my favorite restaurant of all time! I dream about this food when I'm not in New York. I've been coming here since I was a little kid. These days, I don't eat meat, and there are plenty of flavorful veggie options. I really like the Saag Motor Paneer lately. I've always loved the samosas with the green sauce. So nice to have good South Asian food right in Washington Heights! I got the paneer makhni (like butter chicken but with paneer) and also tried one of my friend's samosas. Both items were quite good! The portions were on the smaller side for the price, but I know especially during COVID businesses will have to do what they have to do, so I was fine to pay for it and eat at a local small business.
