I have been looking at Hungry Harvest like services in trying to do some parts in reduce food waste. I really didn't commit to it until the COVID-19 made me find produce providers! The initial hesitation of this type of services is always the selection of produce. But I have been receiving my box for over three months now and I am thinking of continue this service even after the epidemic. We get so excited every Monday evening to find out what is in the box! The Pros: 1. You can get organic or mix boxes. 2. They have three sizes, mini, full, and super, that you can try out. I have done trials for couple week and we are sticking to alternating a full and super box weekly suit us the best. 3. Everything is on their website. I really love it! I can modify my boxes very easily and add anything extra from their market place! 4. Easy to contact customer service and rapid response. 5. You can modify what is in your box each week. 6. The vegetable taste much better!! 7. Reduce waste from grocery shopping. Since everything comes in a box, I place them in the vegetable bags then into the fridge! The Cons: 1. Picky eater might have a problem in receiving the desire vegetables. 2. The ice pack in each box currently do not have a recycling program and cannot be reused due to regulation. Where I am, you can't op out the ice pack either. The is the only big Con for me because of plastic waste. In summary, I am very impressed with the qualify of produce. My box was lost and I didn't get a replacement. I gave very specific instructions about where I lived and the driver still could not figure it out. It's not my fault your delivery drivers are idiots and can't find the right porch. If you are a delivery driver, your entire job is to find the right porch to drop off the box. It is really not that hard. A trained dog could do it. This box is the biggest waste of money and this company is the biggest scam. Save your money and stick with the grocery store. The person I emailed with to get my box sorted out was extremely condescending and not at all helpful. Zero stars. read more

I have been doing Hungry Harvest since June 2016 and I honestly can't stop recommending it to all my friends. For reference, I order the Mini Harvest every 2 weeks since I'm usually cooking for one and it is $15 per order. I love experimenting with new fruits and veggies (ex. starfruit, kohlrabi) that I have eaten but never cooked with before and have found that the quality of their produce is superb! The customer service is fabulous, I once received collard greens that had started to wilt in the box and they immediately gave me a promo code for my next box. I have never had any issues with the products and I am very happy that I am helping others by purchasing this box. Hungry Harvest is one of the best things to have happened to me this year! Hahaha... I am pretty excited about it! We get a Mini Harvest for $15 every week. I like using produce that would have been thrown away and being given a nudge to cook and eat new things (though you can customize). More than anything, I love this service because it eliminates the need to go to the grocery store. We keep some meat in the freezer and grains in the cupboard, and our fresh stuff comes right when we run out of the last delivery. I'd say we get about $15 worth of produce (this week, for instance: a lb. of brussels sprouts, a lb. of carrots, a lb. of potatoes, blackberries, a head of lettuce, and a few odds and ends like an apple, a bell pepper, and squash) definitely not less than that, so the delivery is essentially free. The company is amazing. They are so on top of things. Delivery is always right when it should be, emails are constant enough to be in the loop and super informative (how to customize, what is coming in the next shipment, what might be a good add on for your family) but not annoying, and we have only had one batch that had anything unusable in it (one plum). We got a hat when we ordered an insulated bag, which I 110% recommend for the wintertime (or ANYTIME because it is $12 or $13 and it's huge!!)-- that totally made our day! I have been using this service for a little over a year. I thought it was just going to be a fad, but I quickly became dependent on having my fresh fruits and veggies delivered every other week, along with bread and eggs. Only once have they forgotten to add blueberries to my order, and they put a credit on my account immediately after I notified them. It's also fun to try out random grocery items they have. I've been doing Hungry Harvest for several months, just a little before the time they were featured on Shark Tank. It took us a few shipments to adjust to cooking recipes every week that revolve around our box, but as we've adjusted, the box has only gotten better. One of the great things about this program is the Never and Always lists where you can fill out your preferences and they'll try to sub in a different kind of produce that you'll like. Instead of Kale, for instance, they gave me more potatoes. They have TERRIFIC customer service. I had a box go missing (I live in the city) and I assumed someone stole it. They had a carrier bring me a new box at no charge. My neighbor actually grabbed it for me and when I found out and contacted them and offered to pay for the second box, they declined and told me to share it with friends and family. They've added cool add ons for local products (Rise Up coffee) and excess produce (6 limes for a dollar?!) as well as a weekly mystery herb. We get the full harvest every 2 weeks and it's perfect for 2 people. read more

My quick summary: - GREAT value for your money (I get the $15 mini harvest and am always shocked to see a large box filled with fruits and veggies that last me all week!). If you are watching your budget, I don't think you can find a better deal. - Great way to eat healthy. I've been on Weight Watchers & Hungry Harvest delivers a ton of fresh veggies to me that I make me excited to cook them, which helps me stay on my diet and keeps me excited to cook new things. They often even give you recipe tips via the weekly email, which helps when you have a seasonal item that you may not know how to use. - I love how you can customize your box each week and add basics like eggs. I rarely go to the grocery store and just use this as my main food supply (and I cook a lot)! I just keep frozen chicken/meat in the freezer and get Hungry Harvest once a week and my life is easier -- and my costs are way down. Overall, I am a huge fan. I would say that the produce may not be as perfect as you may find in Whole Foods and sometimes I get something I can't eat (like a set of avocados that never ripened -- which they refunded me for -- and they only cost $1 each), but the value is so good that I have found it to definitely be worth it regardless. Very pleased with my decision to use Hungry Harvest! We get A LOT of veggies and fruit each week, and it costs less than if we went to the grocery store! They allow you to put things on your "no" list, like I personally don't like egg plant. If that is scheduled to come, they swap it for something else delicious! Plus, if we will be out of town, it's very easy to skip deliveries. We often add in a dozen eggs to save me a trip to the store. I also like that there is very little waste, and if there happens to be waste, it's usually cardboard not plastic. Give it a try! I've gotten a lot of my friends to join too. Every time I cook or make something with their produce I have people wondering how everything is so flavorful. I'm so happy to have discovered hungry harvest because, aside from delivering incredible produce to your door step, the whole cause is wonderful and makes me wonder why everyone else is not on it yet. The prices are so reasonable, customer service is phenomenal, and you know what? This time when you forget something in your fridge and it goes bad, you don't feel as guilty for throwing it out. Yes I might be missing the point, but let's face it, this happens to everyone all the time. We have been receiving the mini veggie harvest for over 3 months and it has been wonderful! The vegetables are in great shape - maybe slightly off in color or shape but absolutely fresh! I am notified 2 days before delivery about what will be in the harvest so that I can plan meals for the upcoming week. Delivery is within a one hour timeframe each week and there has been no issue with suspending delivery when needed. I really love this service and the mission of Hungry Harvest. We eat a good amount of vegetables anyway so why not source them through this service! I still supplement my recipes with veggies from the grocery store as needed but the vegetables from this service provide the foundation for our weekly meals. read more

I support Hungry Harvest's mission and their produce has been fine, but their customer service was HORRENDOUS. It was like pulling teeth trying to get our HH account manager to resume delivery after our program's summer break. We waited 3 weeks with no delivery and zero response to my repeated voicemails and emails. Finally he told me that HH no longer had the capacity to provide fruit for our program (even though when we chatted a few weeks prior he promised he would resume delivery ASAP). I love to cook and love a show on food network called chopped- every other week my harvest box provides me with at least one thing I wouldn't normally try to experiment with. Add to that the amount of time I save in the grocery store- I literally only have to buy household goods and meat and the flavor of the organic fruits and vegetables I get in my harvest and I am going to get this as long as it is available. I love getting my Hungry Harvest delivery. Even though they send an email ahead of time, telling me what to expect, I still get excited to look in the box when it arrives. The email includes links to recipe ideas, and the reason the produce was rejected by the normal buyers. You can set a "Never" list, so that you never get specific things, and you can also customize each delivery, for $1.50/item (I believe). The Never list is free to use. Their customer service is impeccable. And they include a storage guide with your first delivery. Check out the peppers I got one week. They were so good. read more

Shocking customer service. I have literally never had something like this happen to me before. They have no regard for their customers, they do not even answer inquiries sent to their help email address. I first subscribed to hungry harvest because I think it's a great idea, in theory. But, they really manage to mess up in almost every area. My first order had rotten fruit in it, so I cancelled further subscriptions. I emailed their info@ email to cancel my subscription and the lady emailed me back saying I was unsubscribed. Yet, I get an email 4 days later saying to prepare for my next order... But I had unsubscribed, or so I thought from the email of confidence from their customer service. I really wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt so I went to my account and cancelled it again, I also emailed them saying I didn't want to receive an order since I had cancelled my account last week. The order didn't come, so I thought everything was fixed and I was finally unsubscribed. HOWEVER, there is no way for you to remove your credit card info from their site. Further, you cannot completely delete your account. I was eventually charged for the delivery that I never received! I emailed them once again saying this was a grave mistake and that 1. I cancelled my account and 2. I never received a delivery since my account was supposedly cancelled I never got an answer from them! Ever! They finally issued me a refund receipt saying I would receive my refund but still NO NOTE OR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM CUSTOMER SERVICE. This is absolutely astonishing. Especially from a startup that relies on it's customers for survival. I'm vegetarian and would gladly subscribe to their program in other circumstances. However, their lack of professionalism and obvious lack of care for their customers can assure that I will NEVER order from them again. This is really a shame because I love the concept but absolutely despise the company behind it. If you subscribe, hope you never have to cancel your account and hope you never have to hold customer service accountable to anything. read more

We really love the quality and variety of fruits and vegetables we get from Hungry Harvest. We have tried quite a few CSA's over the years and have gotten the same products week after week (how many things can you do with kohlrabi?) With HH the variety changes each week and the products are in a usable amount. The proportions of fruits to vegetables is about 50-50. I love getting the mystery herb each week as an add on. It makes me be creative with my weekly meal plan. Having the produce delivered to your doorstep is amazing. The downside is the delivery times stated do not always meet reality. This isn't a problem because you can leave directions for the driver to place on doorstep, leave in a private spot or deliver to a neighbor. The ability to skip a week or two, change box size, add on items or exclude items you don't like or have too many of make this ideal. They substituted an item that they ran out of and gave a discount on the next weeks order. The company also donates each week to hunger charities by giving away food boxes or hosting free farmers markets. I'm attaching photos of a few weeks to show the quantity and quality of a normal box. I've always liked the idea of CSAs, but never participated in any because the amounts of produce was too much for me to consume on my own. That is probably my favorite part of Hungry Harvest. They have a half-share available which is the perfect size for me. I have been subscribing to their weekly deliveries since November 2014. I love the deliveries every week because it is affordable and easy. The variation of produce delivered each week makes eating healthy enjoyable because I never know what I am going to get for the week. This variety has helped me try new recipes that have become my go to recipes. A disclaimer is that the food is salvaged so the produce does not always look that appealing and occasionally some are rotten or just about to go bad. This can be frustrating, so far warning. But the price makes it worth the risk. Also I have learned to check each item and eat the ones that are the closest to spoiling first. Overall I like this company and their services. They would get 5 stars if they stopped putting rotten produce into the bags. read more

I live in South Florida. Hungry Harvest was recommended to me by a friend in the Baltimore area, and I was pleased to see they had service down here so I tried it. I get the mini harvest and pay a very small fee ($1-$2) to customize my box; this means I can specify I do not want specific items like mushrooms, etc. There are only 2 in my house, so this is plenty for the week. Occasionally I have extra produce by the week's end and I am able to freeze it for use later before it goes bad, but the mini harvest is good for 2 - 3 people. My box shows up like clockwork each Saturday morning at the same time. I get a text message after it has been delivered to remind me it is out there. This has really changed the way I eat - I never really focused on vegetables and fruits as part of my daily routine of eating. It has forced me to get more creative and actually eat more vegetables and such. Items I never would have tried plus things I really love have shown up in the box. One of my kitties loves playing rocket ship in the empty box as well. One aspect I like is you can review your upcoming box mid week and ask to replace an item if you don't want it. For example, if you see you are getting mangoes and you don't want that you can choose from 2 or 3 other things to replace your mangoes. This, of course, is part of the fee you have to pay to customize the box. I also like that I can put my weekly delivery on hold if I just don't need a shipment that week or I am going to be out of town. There are a good deal of farms in the general South Florida region and it is nice to open the box and see the names of local farms on the produce. This service is worth trying; I highly recommend it if you want fresh produce delivered to your door and you are looking to shop local and take perfectly good food that would normally go to waste. read more

When I saw a social media ad for Hungry Harvest, an east coast start up touting farm to door produce at a fraction of the cost while helping to eliminate food waste, I was skeptical. Scratch that, I was very doubtful. But color me intrigued. I clicked the bait... and I haven't looked back! Eliminating food waste aside, Hungry Harvest has been an awesome resource for me, a working mother on a teacher salary, to cut food costs while also motivating me to provide my family with healthier, more wholesome food options. Hungry Harvest has a slew of different boxes and schedules. My "Super Harvest" box arrives bimonthly at my door step, providing me with a smorgasport of different fruits and veggies to include in my cooking. I'm able to see what will be coming in each box and for a small fee, I can customize it if needed. There's also a free option to add select produce to a "never" list assuring that a dreaded eggplant or smug artichoke don't show up on your doorstep unannounced (I happen to enjoy both, but to each his own.) My own garden produces lots of lettuce during the summer so I'll likely add that to the list for next year. This customization and the pre-box email allow me to plan my meals around the produce in the box. It also allows me to decide which produce to freeze for the following week. Additionally, there are a variety of add-ons you can select to be added to your box, such as herbs, eggs, and special produce. My first box contained extra limes and lemons and I was pleased as punch both at the price and at the fact they'd be arriving with everything else. Aside from giving you ultimate flexibility in terms of produce type and box size, the pricing is much more reasonable than my local grocery stores. While I prefer to buy local, I also appreciate when a carton of blueberries doesn't cost me upwards of $6. With Hungry Harvest, I know it never will. When compared to similar food at your grocery store, the box is far cheaper. I did a comparison and realized I saved nearly $15. That money adds up. I chose the "Super Harvest" box for the free shipping it provides, making it the most affordable choice. You can easily skip a delivery or cancel if needed. There are a few drawbacks. First, and likely because I do not live on the East coast, I was not given choice of delivery day. Saturday is my day. Which is actually fairly convenient during the school year, but during the summer when it's toasty hot and we travel, Saturday would not be my first choice. Second, and I don't quite consider this a "drawback" but the produce can be rather odd looking or small. I found this out when using sweet potatoes for a recipe. I ended up not having enough mash due to the smaller size of the potatoes. On the flip side, the produce can also be larger than usual. Either way, the taste is not affected in the least. Everything was fresh. Like, straight from the farm fresh. There were a few packaged items but everything was amazingly fresh. And finally, of course there's the fact their company strives to eliminate food waste. As if this story couldn't get any better, they have a great mission. Hungry Harvest has me hooked, all because of a skeptical little social media ad. I am thrilled to see them making their mark in Metro Detroit and can't wait to see what they do next. If you're looking for a very affordable way to receive fruits and veggies, give them a try. I love the idea of their goals in salvaging "gleaned" food and donating the same share to local food banks. The half share size was the clincher, since my household is too small for most CSA sizes. I've had three deliveries now and each has been great in quality and amount. The emails letting me know what's included and even how to cook it are helpful (check Twitter for even more recipes.) After checking my food labels and continuing to find sugar as a surprise frequently-added ingredient in everything from "oil and vinegar" salad dressing, commercially prepared potatoes, and even added weight to chicken, I feel better and less bloated already.
