THIS IS NOT A GIMMICKY DINER, THIS IS A FULL BAR WITH FANTASTIC MUSIC, A VIDEO SCREEN, AND A LEGIT DINER MENU. It looks like a gimmicky diner. The first time I tried to come here it was for lunch on a Monday. The impression I got of this place was it was a gimmicky diner that couldn't even manage to be open for lunch on a weekday, so I was like eff this, not coming back. Through some weird twist of fate, I happened to be in this shopping center two more times since I last reviewed. I didn't have a chance to hang around the first time, but I noticed this place was at least opened and heard some fun music coming out. Seemed to have a club vibe rather than a diner vibe, so my curiosity was kicking in. Found myself back in the same shopping center today, this time with about an hour to kill, and figured I might as well check it out in case I'd gotten the wrong impression of this place. Holy crap. This is probably the coolest place nobody knows about. It would be a falsehood to say this isn't a diner, because they have an extensive menu of diner food. What they ALSO have is a full bar with a happy hour, a huge video screen, and a dining room that apparently turns into a dance floor on Saturday nights. I didn't have a ton of time, but it was a damn sin this place was flying under the radar by disguising itself as a simple themed restaurant when in reality, it looks like it's actually shaping up to be a fun retro party joint - so I got as much info as I could before I had to go. From the Q's I was able to ask: Friday night is 80s karaoke, Saturday nights will very soon be 80s dance nights (with some early 90s stuff potentially sneaking in too, from the impression I get). Retro character cosplay and 80s/90s fashion are welcome and encouraged, and they're hoping to start showing Saturday morning cartoons on the video screen for Saturday morning brunch soon. It seems like the only thing they need to work on is their advertising/publicity. Service and food were good too, and so were the drinks, and it completely makes sense for a BAR to be closed on a Monday! Just not a diner! Tl;dr - I literally have nothing bad to say about this place other than it's way too easy to accidentally overlook or dismiss it, as it really does appear to present itself primarily as a greasy spoon. read more

I'm sorry to say, but the drinks were extremely weak, the food was OK at most. I did love the cheese sticks and the service was good, but the impossible burger was very salty and small. I hate to say it, but I've got to...there I was an employees child sitting in the middle barstool. The fact that there's only five barstool there's definitely no adult going to want to sit at the bar. The worst part is this approximately 10 year year-old boy was picking and eating his boogers! There is no way that employees did not notice this. Maybe it was the owners child and that's why lt was OK therefore ignored. Classic hip diner, that's all the positive I can said about this place. The meatloaf is one of the worst I've ever eaten. Is tough, very tough like a rock. Not much favor and the green beans are uncooked. I prefer mine soft. The chocolate milk shake was not as thick as I would like it to be. Is a nice chic place, but in the long run, is the food that carries the restaurant. With what I've tasted today, unless they change the chef, I doubt it will survive in the long run. read more

So we stumbled upon this new diner, we had been to this location before they sold and this restaurant opened. Overall experience was pleasant; although it can get a bit loud as their theme is 70s era I believe. The food menu was a bit small in my opinion, but the prices were very fair as well. To be honest, this place is more of a Denny's but with a 70s theme. Hey, nothing wrong with that! Good food, good service and fair prices. read more

It was a siblings reunion! We had not all been together since before Covid. We were all so happy to reconnect and just hang out. My brother posed some options for where we could meet and when I came across the 80s themed diner, from the food to the atmosphere, I was totally geeked. From the sound the door makes when you walk to the 80s music videos playing in the background, to the posters and decor, it was my kind of spot. The atmosphere were perfect for our group of 6. The menu was even nostalgic in what it offered but is a little limited. Overall, we had a great time. Everyone enjoyed their food and drink except for one of us. Seriously this is my 3rd time LOL...at Hungry Like a Wolf in the past two weeks since their first opening week.. there are so many places in midtown close to me, but the vibe here is fun and of course awesome 80s mix. Besides where can you have dinner and hear some Beastie Boys and Duran Duran One of my main reasons for coming back again and again - even though during my first visit they were so slammed and the food took a bit.... to come out... But our waiter Lavel, his hospitality was awesome. He check in with us to make sure we had what we needed.. slammed and all.. Fast forward on Wednesday this week I came for happiness hours with other friends and Lavel remembered me. This time the food came out timely, and tasty also the fried pickles YUM. Wish you could give zero stars.... Went to dinner last night with family to try this place out. One server in the entire restaurant and some guy (maybe the manager?) sitting at a table watching the poor guy scramble about. The waiter asked him to at least get some help get water on the tables that were seated. Instead he decided to clear a dirty table. After waiting for 15 minutes with no one even talking to us, I asked "manager dude" (jokingly) if we should just go somewhere else - to my shock he said "yes". They were closing due to lack of help. Wow. On a Tuesday night. So we did. Had a nice dinner at Laurenzo's. Really disappointed because it looks like a fun place and the menu was appealing. Oh well.... Unlikely to return. read more

The 80's vibes here are immaculate! You definitely feel like you just stepped into the 80's walking into this place. From the music blasting, to the decor, and the menu items named after popular 80's pop culture. So cool! Unfortunately the food doesn't leave the same impression. Don't get me wrong- the food isn't horrible- its very similar to Denny's. I would say it's about $25 to $30 per person. Which I know is pretty average but I thought it was a little overpriced for the quality of food they're serving. You're definitely paying more for the experience. So I guess what I'm trying to say is.....if you're looking for a cool place to eat and you aren't too picky this is definitely a place to try. read more

This place was pretty cool. 80's decor and music and videos playing in the background, I loved it. We were a little disappointed because the menu posted online is not what they offer right now. Not bashing but your website should reflect what is actually offered, not what is being developed. I wanted stuffed French toast and some things off the lunch menu but they didn't have most of the online menu items. I had one of the Belgian waffles topped with strawberries and bananas. Delicious! The waffle was soft and fluffy and buttery. My daughter ordered the chicken & waffles. The chicken itself was very bland and a little tangy with hardly any seasoning so she was disappointed in that. I will give this place another shot in the future and maybe they'll have it all running smoothly. read more

Hey, you with the Duran Duran haircut, yeah you..I got your place right here... Hungry like the wolf is a little joint that plays 80s music and is festooned with rock posters of the era....with a cool lighting and bar layout. Burger...get it, it's great. Philly cheese steak...oh getitgetit, it's an awesome one, add mayo. The fries are homemade and salty and crispy. You like milkshakes, right? Right?! This is a rocking good one, folks...a must order item here, whatever your flavor preference is. Rock out while friendly wait staff provide attentive and courteous service that doesn't intrude. The salads are big and my table mates gave it a thumbs up. I didn't try the cocktails, but they look interesting..next time for sure...and there WILL be a next time, soon. Easy to find, parking is ample. Under new management that takes customer service seriously ... Keep an eye on this place for updates on special events and possibly entertainment. A wolf spends its days wild, hungry, and free. Well our experience at this restaurant was wild (disappearing wait staff, hunger from waiting an hour and a half and no entrees came out of the kitchen, and free because lets face it, you pay for what you get. For a place that should be nostalgic, my time at this 80s themed restaurant turned out to be time I can't wait to forget. Walked into this time warp and were sat in the corner by the entrance where we would hear "bow bow, chicka, chicka" every time the door opened or closed. Don't put this hungry baby in the corner. We overhear the woman at the table next to us order the appetizer sampler and told our waitress well have what she's having. It sounded like a Fat Boys dream...cheese sticks, onion rings, fried pickles, and fried mushrooms. 45 minutes later we got a pile of mushrooms; the fried kind not the good kind that would make Frankie relax. The "chef" ran out of pickles and onions. A diner ran out of pickles and onions. I had to repeat it to believe it. He sent out what he had. Not one word from our waitress of the their food shortages that evening. There is an HEB across down the road but where this place was going they don't need roads. They will keep you waiting for your food until you're actually in your 80s. In fact at a table by us, there was a group of friends celebrating a birthday. Left this place wondering how many years were celebrated also if they were willing to share a slice since we waited another hour for entrees that never came out. We kept trying to get any wait staff's attention. Turn around, bright eyes. They were walking like Egyptian back to the kitchen and weren't sure if they would return. We discussed if we should stay or should we go now and I've made up my mind and I ain't wasting no more time. We are the world and these starving kids desperately needed to eat. We asked to speak to the manager as I needed to shout, shout, and let it all out. We offered to pay for our mushroom scraps so we could walk this way straight out of the restaurant The manager was apologetic, nice, and comped our order but never gave an indication of our food was even close to being served. She told me lies, told me sweet little lies. Running a successful restaurant is out of their control and that's just the way it is because they're not used to a busy restaurant (on a Saturday night?), keeping inventory of the basics (pickles/onions), and allowing your kitchen to get so far behind? Still doesn't explain what the wait staff was doing since they didn't give us any updates or offer anything that was ready from the kitchen, perhaps a slice of bread. Perhaps they ran out of that as well. But surely little miss can't be wrong. She pleaded to us that we don't stop believin' in the restaurant and have faith we will have a much better experience the next time. Promises, promises. Not sure there will be a next time because Hungry Like The Wolf is Livin on a Prayer and unless it goes against all odds should have the same fate as a candle in the wind. So Goodbye to you. So if you really want to have a better dining experience with the same mediocre food and nostalgic factor, go check out Denny's, pull out your phone, and play some 80s music videos on YouTube. What a waste of potential. We went because it was 80's themed and wanted to have a new experience. Trust me, please go somewhere else. Grab your boombox and go elsewhere. We waited a long time for a server to be assigned to us only to have a waiter who felt comfortable enough to sit at our table, pull out his cell phone, and get a little chatty. Came here for because of the name. I love Duran Duran. Yes they had great 80's music on nice and loud. I loved the music, they even played Journey. A must for 80's lovers. The drinks were ok. I had a topochica with tequila and lime. The Ruben was very good. I have had better but I was happy. My Freind had the Salmon and it was very good. This is a great place to start or finish the night. It was my first time visiting this location, and I was super excited to check out the menu and the old-school decor. My mom, dad, and stepmom tried out an appetizer, entrees, and of course, their cocktails. Although I only tried something SUPER basic (the grilled cheese), it was pretty good. The right balance of cheeses with just enough melted consistency. The food was good, but I think the cocktails were better. I certainly plan to revisit, so if you're into a 50s diner vibe with throwback jams playing overhead this is definitely the place you want to be on a Friday night. The first time I heard of Hungry like the wolf was through my friend. I was captivated by the uniqueness of the name, and thought it'd be a great idea to check it out. As I stepped into the restaurant, I felt welcomed, and I was immediately taken care of by the servers. My friend recommended me to order their famous chicken & waffles plate, and I wasn't let down. As someone who enjoys chicken and waffles and orders them at every brunch restaurant, this waffles at Hungry like the Wolf have become one of my favorite meals ever. The quality and presentation of the food is what gives them that magical touch that in my opinion it's very hard to top anything like it. Even though this plate is my all time favorite I decided to change it up a little bit and tried other plates, and I'm happy to say they all have great taste. Besides the food being delicious and at a very affordable price, the staff are super friendly and will make you feel at home. I specifically remember when I visited a few months ago and my friend was making some modifications to her order, and the server was gladly pleasing her needs. As a former server myself I know how hard or even annoying it can be when a customer is picky with their order, but the service at this establishment is top tier. If you're more of a drinker or just want to enjoy a good margarita, the place offers a variety of cocktails and a great selection of hard liquor. If you're still underage you should try their flavorsome milkshakes. One of the things that differentiate this restaurant from the others is the 80s based theme, and the several events that take places throughout the week like movie Wednesday nights, live djs, or even Friday night karaoke. The uniqueness of this place starts as soon as you open the door, and a "Ferris Bueller's Day" sample sound starts playing. If you're a sucker for the 80's and love to enjoy a good brunch, this would definitely become your favorite spot in Houston! The place is located at Studemont near Montrose. A perfect location if you live near Midtown/ Downtown. Even though it's located in a busy area of town, their parking lot is extremely spacious. This is important to take into consideration since a lot of the restaurants that are trending in the city right now have little to no parking at all. HLTW is situated in a little shopping/ restaurant center that they're great to visit as well. Since it is also located near Montrose, I love stopping for some drinks after going to Hungry like the Wolf. This place is perfect for a night out with your friends, your significant other, or even with your family! Kinda disappointed with my first time visit. We went on a Friday night. When we arrived parking lot was packed and we weren't sure why, but managed to find a spot in the back. Entered inside and was told it would be a 45 minute wait for 2! But luckily the hostess said a table was about to clear and be ready shortly. We waited at the bar, ordered drinks. I had a beer and my wife ordered the whamabama slammer because the bartender recommended it. She did not like it because it was very sweet. Ordered the Optimus prime burger but it tasted like meatloaf and the fries were soggy. The 80's theme just kinda came off as tacky and too much in your face (but I think that's the whole point). Im a huge fan of 80s aesthetics and music but it just came off as strange. All in all, not very enjoyable. read more

Have been here twice and both times the food did not disappoint. Had the chicken fried chicken on both occasions. Both times it was cooked and battered fresh. The mash potatoes are perfectly made and the sautéed veggies are a delight. The service is great and the staff is super friendly. The music and the venue itself takes you back in time. The tables are set with trivia cards which makes the whole experience fun. I downloaded The Juke Vision app and queued a variety of 80's music videos. Great experience for sure. read more

They have the most fun 80's trivia games at the table to pass the time while waiting on your food. Service was a little slow and food was standard, but the atmosphere makes it worth the trip. It's a super cute 80s themed place! i came for the food tho because i've read good things. my waitress was this super sweet punk lady omg i think we would be friends she was the best. our food was taking a litt bit but it was just because they were short staffed so u know whatever i get it no big deal i wasn't in a rush. Food was decent, i really really loved the chicken tenders although they weren't seasoned enough in my opinion. But you can tell they're homemade for sure. Waffles didn't really stand out to me and i didn't end up eating half of them. Didn't get to try the burger but it looked great! place is kinda expensive but i think it's worth it! read more

The night my friends and I went there, DJ Mike Snow was playing the best music of the 80's! It was a surprise since I knew of him from the days back in the late 80's in the Houston scene... very appropriate! I look forward to visiting this great restaurant again sometime soon! A few kinks need working out. We got there right at 10am on a Sunday and we're seated 3rd. Groups right after us were being told it was a 40 minute wait. My husband and I had our daughter whose 1.5 with us. I assumed that a diner would have high chairs. When I walked up to the hostess stand I told her we were a party of 2 and a high chair. She took us to a table and as I was telling my husband where we should put the high chair the hostess informs us they don't have high chairs. Thankfully since we were the 3rd group through the door that morning we asked to sit at a booth. However, the table was too high for my daughter to eat off of so we had to put a plate next to her on the booth. I'd suggest getting a few high chairs and booster seats. After we were seated it looked like the POS system wasn't working. Which I'll assume caused our drink order to not come. No biggie. We just had to remind the waiter that brought our food that we had ordered drinks. As for the menu there is no kids options. Limited menu for a diner. My husband got the 3 egg breakfast. He said it was a standard breakfast. I ordered the chicken & waffles. Waffle was good. Should have asked for the vanilla glaze on the side as it was pretty heavy handed with it. My biggest complaint was that they are clearly frying the chicken strips in the same oil as their fried shrimp. My chicken looked good but had a weird after taste. You could taste the shrimp from the oil. I told the waitress they need to change the oil or at least have a separate fryer for the seafood. Not sure if they told the manager or the cook. read more
