First time here. I came for lunch and if I were to provide grades for the various element it would go like this: Drinks A- the Chai tea with vanilla foam was perfect. Not too sweet with yummy foam. Food B- the praying monk was just ok. I was hoping for more flavor and it was over toasted so the bread was dry with crusts that were too hard to eat. Service C minus- this was disappointing. The place was not at all busy, but the attitude of the servers was lackluster. No smile, no offer to get a copy of my receipt. My table was three feet from the service area and yet I almost didn't realize when my drink and then food were ready as they were just placed on the counter and someone sort of mumbled what the item was. Interesting that the women behind the counter seemed much friendlier when young men were the customers. I don't think I'll be back.

PB Fudge Monkey smoothie, large cappuccino and Colorado Veg sandwich

Lunch was superb, Colorado Veg was done perfectly, flavorful, and fresh. PB Fudge Monkey smoothie tasted great and the cappuccino was great as always. I just love this place.

Breakfast sandwich taking 33 minutes to make when it isn't even busy? With a side of bad attitude from the staff

Atmosphere 10/10. Coffee 10/10. Hunter bay is the spot to go, in Missoula, on a cold winter day.

It's a huge hangar type space filled with locals bustling in for their morning coffee. My typical way to know if I'll like a coffee shop is if their cappuccino is only offered in one (or two) sizes. Black Coffee had that-BINGO. Delicious and perfectly made. My only regret is not buying beans to brew at home.

(525) is worth a stop for the building alone--that curved corrugated-metal shell, the tangle of Edison bulbs strung across the high ceiling, and a sunny little patio out back make it one of the more distinctive coffee spots around. The service was friendly and quick. I ordered at the counter and had my drink in hand in no time, with genuinely nice folks behind the bar. The menu has some fun, unexpected touches too--the mint cold brew is a standout you won't find everywhere, and it's refreshing without being gimmicky. The pastry case is where they really shine. House-made bialys, savory danishes with coconut greens and pork belly, sweet danishes with black tea and roasted rhubarb, plus a rotating lineup of cookies and tea cakes. Everything looks like it's made with real care, and the bakery side (Grist) clearly takes the craft seriously. One heads-up: there's no WiFi. If you're hoping to post up and grind through a few hours of work, this isn't the spot for it--plan on a shorter visit or bring a hotspot. For a quick, high-quality coffee-and-pastry run, though, it's a winner. Come for the architecture and the mint cold brew, stay for the bialys--just don't expect to get much emailing done.

The pastry case is impressive with a huge selection of pastries, bagels, and goodies, including massive pies that are hard to resist. Coffee and tea options cover all the standard classics, plus some fun twists that keep the menu interesting. The coffee is good for the area but nothing outstanding. The space itself is large with plenty of seating options, and it never feels overly crowded, which is a big plus if you want to sit and relax for a while. Unfortunately, the service has gone downhill. The baristas used to be incredibly friendly, remembered drink orders, and made you feel genuinely welcome. Lately, it feels rushed and impersonal, like you're just being pushed through the line with little acknowledgment. The experience has been very hit or miss, which makes it hard to want to return regularly. Overall, amazing pastries and pies, solid drinks, and a great space, but the inconsistency in service is what keeps this from being a frequent stop for me anymore.
