GREAT place to watch sports. I dropped my family off to see a Broadway show and I was looking for a bar to watch football. The theater usher recommended the bar across the street called Hurleys. What a great bar and experience. The bartender was so welcoming, set me up right in front of my game, and recommended a great cocktail, called Sex on the beach. I was lucky enough to sit next to two sports enthusiast which made the game more exciting. The bar is really long with two sides, and lots of Tv"s. When I first came in it was a little quiet then out of no where the bar filled up. The bartender was so calm and pleasant through all the chaos's. I've been to bars in NYC where the bartender's are so rude and act annoyed your there, not here. Alicia was the bartender and through it all she was so upbeat and fun. I left her a nice big tip for her hard work. She was so thankful she actually came up to me and shook my hand, she was very grateful for the tip. Class act. Out of all the places in NYC for a dive bar with food, this place is just not it for a number of reasons. Nine of us came in around 9:30 and there was a ton of room in the back with tables we were able to sit at. However, once we sat at the table they pretty much shoved the menus in our face and kept asking us what we want to eat before even having a chance to open up the menu. All of us wound up ordering drinks, I got an espresso martini (which wasn't good). I then ordered the pretzel with beer cheese to snack on (this was just buttery and kinda stale and the cheese was terrible). My friend asked the server for water because she wasn't in the mood to drink, he then asked her about food and she was still looking at the menu. He came back around and she asked for water again and he once again asked her for her food order which she said she was still looking at the menu - which idk what the problem was because she was snacking on my pretzels with me and everyone at the table was drinking. After 20 mins she got up and went to ask the guy for water and he got mad at her for not ordering food first- this was just crazy, what if she had a medical condition or anything for that matter where he would just deny her water like that because her food order has yet to be placed when everyone at our table was spending money. She eventually wound up ordering a buffalo chicken wrap with fries, the French fries were good but the wrap was mediocre at best. Our table also ordered buffalo wings that were well done and had no flavor. When we asked for the bill they tried charging us for extra items we did not order which was just the icing on the cake. Went on a Friday night before a show with a pretty large group and they were able to accommodate us without any issues. Service was efficient - we were able to order, eat, and pay in time to comfortably make it to our show without feeling rushed. I ordered the pan-seared salmon with mango salsa, spinach, and mashed potatoes, and everything was delicious. The salmon was cooked really well, and the mango salsa added a nice freshness. Some of my friends ordered comfort dishes like the shepherd's pie, which also looked really good. Overall, it's a solid spot if you're looking for something reliable and tasty around the Theater District before a show. read more

Service was quick and attentive. Its an old bar that's been open since the 1800s and looks nice. The food was pretty good. The cod didn't have much flavor on its own but with the tomatoes it tasted very good. The steak was cooked true to medium and it needed a little salt but overall he was satisfied with it. read more

Took a chance pre-theater and we were not disappointed. Hadn't made reservations anywhere, and we were walking by (as we had dozens of times before) took a look at the menu, and figured that everyone in our party could find something to satisfy them. The hostess was lovely, and gave us a round table upstairs with a view of the street. Service was prompt and our server was very helpful with menu questions. The table agreed that the fried calamari was some of the best we've had in a long time. The chicken Caesar salad had warm sliced grilled chicken and was excellent. This place has along bar but we sat down at the end . At first we got menus and I ordered the Stella in the Stella Glass . The menu is very huge here . They offer a pre fix Theater menu for under $50 . I ordered the Ruben sandwich on rye bread! It comes w/ Russian dressing, sauerkraut. And a side of fries , or chips as the say . My friend ordered the shrimp tacos. W/ blacks beans and rice ! You get 3 to an order! We then proceed to get there chicken wings which come 10 to an order! Blue cheese is there dip! The wings could have used one more turn for the sauce to go in the wings , but otherwise it was great! The place is very nice it's has a mongany bar . Lots of booth . Perfect place to wait out a storm before heading to Longacre Theater before a show. Pricey, sure, but everything is in this area. I ordered a Shepherd's Pie. The filling was bland and tasteless. The only good part of it was the mashed potatoes. Essentially, I spent $25 for mashed potatoes. Service was fine. It was loud, as a sports bar usually is. I only went there because it was a few doors down from my theater. I will never go back. read more

Had a surprisingly great meal here for a midtown pub. Service was also fast and efficient. Hangar steak cooked nicely, salmon was fresh (although had to ask for the sauce). Good buzz in the dining room. Appetizer, entrees for four, two rounds of drinks and a shared desert, all under 90 minutes. Had enough time to make 8:00 showing and get drinks before curtain. I love this cozy bar. The place was dressed up for Christmas and had a nice vibe. Overall the food is pretty good for bar food. The soft pretzels were amazing and the mustard and beer cheese were fantastic. The pub burger was good too and they even cut it in half for us and served onto two plates since we were sharing it. I liked the French onion soup as well, which was decadent and flavorful. I was hankering for a warm cocktail and they offered to make me a bailey's coffee even though it wasn't on the menu. My husband and I came into NYC from NC to check out the Christmas decorations and shows. We were walking down the street and saw a sign for hot bourbon cider and thought, great way to warm up. Hurley's is very inviting with great decorations and warm staff. We were just coming in for a drink but after being entertained by the bartender we decided to stay and eat at the bar. Alicia the bartender is fantastic. She makes you feel like you have been coming to the bar for years, like cheers. She's supper outgoing and funny, it was a great experience and definitely would recommend Hurleys to our friends. Look forward to coming back next time we are in NYC. read more

Came here RIGHT after the first night of a show at the Longacre (point of clarity it's been awhile since a shows been in this theatre I believe) and naturally we all we next door to the bar and hung out with our friends to talk about the show and eat. This historic establishment is built for show people! I stopped in before my Broadway show was to start and got seated immediately. I ordered the steak salad and it came out soooo quick!! How have I never reviewed Hurley's before? We have eaten here quite a few times, whenever we are in NYC for sure. The food is good, very good in fact. There is something for everyone and is perfect before a show or after for dessert. The service ia always prompt to attract theater goers and I suspect if it is just friends gathering, also prompt but not rushed. Most seating is upstairs and decor is attractive and fun. We of course like the "private" booths. Prices are good too, a surprise in the Times Square area. read more

I stumbled upon Hurley's hoping to scout out a fun bar for me and my friends. I walked in, ordered a drink, asked where the restroom was. When I returned there was a bill next to my drink. When I asked the bartender why she rang me up she said, "oh, I thought you were just here to use the restroom." Oh my, how far the mighty have fallen. Being in the heart of the theater district is beyond valuable! And the huge space makes it profitable, but I am sorry, I was spoiled when I used to go to their original place in Rockefeller Center (... all right decades ago), where it had a more upscale appearance, and the most amazing crispy duck signature dish. Don't get me wrong, the food is okay, just not more than okay. I even held an event, renting out their upper floor some years ago ... it was great and they gave us our own bartender (cash bar), and we took good care of each other. Great food, great staff, amazing location and the building is beautiful inside with elegant rooms, two gorgeous old school NYC bars, two patios offerring excellent party space for small or rather large events. Paul and Anna hosted my mother's after funeral reception and I could not be more pleased with the customer service and food they provided. They stayed true to every quote for our modest budget, providing a gorgeous 3rd floor rooftop bar space with an adjoining room. Our servers and bartender were excellent. The appetizer food served was well beyond my expectations, it was all very fresh and all made in house not out of a box from a freezer, the selections were great, the price unbelievably fair for what they served. The food and service was so good that when after the guests all left, many of us went to the second floor for a late lunch, and again the food and service were outstanding. Loved the beautiful old wood bar and booths set in to the walls at the top of the stairs there, but the area we sat in was gorgeous, oak panelled with two large tables and an adjoining roof deck patio. I had such a great time there, it turned a sad reason to gather in to a celebration of my mothers life with such class and ambiance that I think I will visit for years to come just to relive the moment again in some small way. Very accommodating and a great bar space. The food is good and some dishes are great. Fish n chips are pretty typical. Fries are outstanding. I had the shrimp scampi. The shrimp get a little tough but the flavor is ok. Salads are very cold and plentiful. The Caesar was great. Chicken pot pie is really good as was the burger. Drink refills were hard to get.
