These guys are doing things. The space is not the greatest, but man the beer is the best in Chattanooga IMO. Service excellent as well.

Tiny highly recommended brewery. The place is super small what's more the limited serving area is shared with more than half a dozen brew kettles. Doesn't slow them down. They still have more than 20 styles available. The wait staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. I happened to come on $3.00 pint night. Every Wednesday. I sampled a few after reading the extensive menu. I went with the seismic saison as a palate cleanser before trying the popular Belay On and lastly the Belgium Tripel. The saison was a clean mild dry finish. A very good beer. The Belay was a hoped up blonde with a mild bitterness. Another solid offering. Lastly I went for the Belgium Tripel. The Benchmark Belgium was a medium bodied solid Tripel. I was torn between this and the Black IPA. Mostly because not every brewery offers a Tripel and most don't have a black IPA. Not to diminish the citrus hopped Black IPA, but I definitely liked the Tripel. Great small bar. Tons of exploration. Tons of tying new things. I would be a regular here if I lived in the area. In the next few wks they're expanding. Doubling their existing space. This place is cool. There's a garage bay with a modest seating area along with a bar top. Doubling the space will improve the I'm sorry I just bumped into you vibe. Except for me I think someone there knew the name of virtually everyone in the place. There were maybe 2 dozen people there upon my arrival which was boarder-line capacity for the existing space. The expansion will make a decided improvement in space. Good beer nice folks. I absolutely love their beer. Great tasting room. The number of great beers these people make is pretty amazing. This would be a five star review if they had more than one bartender on duty. Took way too long to get served. This whole area is really turning into a great part of town. Hint, if you like a citrus IPA, try that Promenade. One of the best beers I have ever had. Now a staple in my beer fridge at home. They also have an ESB. I am a big fan of a good pint of Bitters and this is a very good one. They had a big selection of beers, and he did a great job helping us narrow it down. Our party arrived for a celebration of family being in town for the holidays. We were treated so disrespectfully by the individual closing the bar. From turning the lights off in the seating area to repeatedly saying the "F" word to us as we left, it was so terrible. While Chattanooga definitely has a wide variety of breweries to check out, Hutton & Smith Brewing is a pretty cool one that does it best to stand out. The brewery itself isn't large in space, but it has a cozy feel, without being too packed even on a Friday night. They have a wide interesting selection on their menu for every taste. I tried a cider and Belgium and both were pretty good. It can get a little loud with the music, but not obnoxious, it's still an enjoyable atmosphere. They have a cool garage door opening that's probably pretty awesome for good weather and they are dog friendly, which is helpful. Solidly awesome on all fronts. The Smith's ESB was the smoothest, tastiest beer I've had in a good long while. The owners are the coolest people in Chatty as far as I'm concerned and they have an incredible staff. Ask to see their kilts. Beer lovers, rock climbers, and generally awesome people should all consider this their new home. Be sure to pick up a custom filled Krauler. Hole in wall with excellent beer. Pretty crowded when I was there. Small, no food, just friendly people and fantastic beer.

So I will start saying I am a regular. I think H&S has got the most going for it in the brewing category, and I have been to the other local breweries. They have multiple pale ales, IPAs, stouts, Belgiums, Scotch ales, ESBs, Saissons, Sours, etc. Low gravity sours at about 4.1% ABV and an IPA in the low 5% ABV going up to a 10% ABV Belgium. Barrel aged beers are also in the mix. Their Bivouac Black IPA took a Gold Medal last year. There is something for just about everyone who drinks beer. I have seen some complaints by others on the price of some beers, which is likely a function of the cost of the ingredients. It is a business. Three dollar pint nights are Wednesday for the economically challenged. Cheers! read more

I really want to like Hutton and Smith. There's too many parallels between my life and this bar to not really want to like them. The last visit to Chatt (maybe a year or two ago) was okay. The beer was not bad and the place was enjoyable. The staff was awesome and one of the guys who was a regular was super chatty with us, since it was slow. Since we're considering in the distant future some sort of brewery situation, we take in all of these things; good and bad. Craft beer has really taken off. We've since moved to NC (still pretty far from all the good breweries), we've been exposed to the wide array of good, bad and meh. The first visit to HS was like, "Ok. Not bad." But since craft beer has exploded, we expected that there'd be a marked improvement; after all they won an award. It wasn't great. It was worse than the first time. We had a flight and all of it was flat. read more

Without a doubt the best brewery in Chattanooga. The Good Schist is the best beer I've ever had. When traveling I always make it a point to include a few breweries during the trip but none have ever come close to Hutton & Smith in quality or service. The bartenders learned my name from day one and treat everyone that comes in like they are regulars. My girlfriend isn't a big beer drinker but they have multiple beers she likes. Hutton and Smith is a great little brewery. The beer is delicious and it's nice to know that I am supporting a locally owned business when I order it at another restaurant in town. I would give the play 5 stars if the growler pricing wasn't so absurd. For a 64oz growler fill they charge $15.99. I can totally understand that they cannot afford to sell beer at the price that the bigger breweries can, but a 50% price increase from the standard $9-$11 growler fill seems gratuitous to me. I'll definitely go back for a brew but I doubt I'll return for a growler fill. read more

Hands down best brewery in Chattanooga as of September 16'. The weird Tennessee alcohol laws seem to prohibit the brewing of quality beverages, but somehow this brewery still produces a quality glass of suds. Cheers to the team! read more

Authentic atmosphere for a brewery. The owner and staff were very attentive and friendly. My wife and I were visiting from Wilmington, N.C. and the locals welcomed us like we were family! We just stopped in to try a beer and long story short left without one. We went inside and went to the bar. There were literally five people also at the bar and several others sitting at tables. The bartender never acknowledged our presence after 15 minutes, not even a hello. He looked over us and the place was NOT crowded to warrant this behavior. Finally someone that arrived 15 minutes after us sits at the bar and is immediately served. Enough is enough, we left without a drink and won't be back. read more
