A fun lunch stop on a leisurely country drive. Wife had the bbq chicken salad. Ok, but more a fried chicken salad with a little bbq flavor. I did the burger sliders appetizer. Impressed. The beef was clearly ground in house and was a wonderful coarse grind. excellent. With the buns charred on the grill, it made an excellent light lunch without any sides needed. Added bonus for house brewed beer. Found the kolsch a tasty lunch treat. Warmish inside, and hot outside, sadly the views that day were shrouded in haze. Don't know when we'd ever be back in the area, but if we were, I'd not hesitate to suggest a repeat stop. read more

We were finally able to try TOTR recently. Had heard great things about this restaurant--and for the most part, it's all true. The food, seating environment and view (or course) are really good. Pricing is on the higher end but fair for what you get. So 3 stars for that. The staff that greets and seats you--as well as our waitress--was unfriendly bordering on rude. Just weird. Our local friends state that there are a lot of out-of-state residents living nearby (especially California expats) and they're not well liked. That may be the case, but it appeared that everyone was treated shabbily. Kinda sours the experience. Lastly, there were a lot of flies. Duck fat fries - they had a strange texture to them like they've been sitting in the fryer for too long. Most of the fries were soggy like Five Guys fries. It did taste like duck and the trio of sauces was a nice touch (ranch, tarragon aioli, bbq sauce). Chicken lettuce cups - refreshing and light. Could have used more hoisin sauce. Ranchado chicken - good sized chicken breast. Couldn't really taste the ranch rather the cheese made it extra cheesy. The bun was smaller than I thought it would be. Beer - the hefe and red ale were refreshing and standard. Service - slow. Our waiter disappeared after getting our appetizer order and didn't come back. Another waiter took over after 20 minutes. It was busy but I've seen much busier places and the wait wasn't 20+ minutes. It's like she didn't bother to tell another person she was going to be gone. She finally came back to bust our table. What was strange she took my gf plate first, left mine. I paid with my card and she handed the bill over to her. She also didn't acknowledge me (note: I'm not Caucasian). Got seated promptly, had to wait a few minutes for the waitress. They only had the brunch menu available until 3 and we got there at 2. The waitress was a sweet heart on let me wife order the Chicken fried Chicken and I ordered the filet. We also got the nachos for an appetizer. We got the nachos but we had to send them back. The chips were burnt and hard to eat. When our server came over, she immediately shook her head and took them away. She was not happy with what the kitchen sent out. We got our second serving of nachos and they were done properly. They were good but the chips were a little thick and chewy but still good. The manager even came over and apologized for the first batch of nachos, class act! I will say that if you order the nachos, at least have 4 people in your party, it's a large portion. Was a little surprised when the table of 7 that came in about 10 minutes after us got there food while we were still waiting. Our food came and was worth the wait. My filet was cooked perfectly and was so tender that I could cut it with a fork. The mashed potatoes and asparagus were also delicious. The wife's Chicken fried chicken was also very good. We decided to try Top of the Rock in Kimball on kind of a whim and man, I'm so glad we did! The view from up there is absolutely stunning, you can see for miles and it just takes your breath away, especially around sunset. The food was legit delicious too. Everything we ordered came out hot and tasted fresh, not like some tourist trap stuff. Our server Rosa was awesome, she super friendly, checked on us without hovering, and had recommendations ready when we asked. She really made the whole experience feel personal. We had a great time here enjoying some good food and the amazing view. Our waitress was excellent as well, make the whole experience great. I didn't love our table because most of our view was obstructed, but it was still nice. We started with the spinach and artichoke dip, which was really good. I've never had it served in a bread bowl before so that was a fun take on dish. For my entree, I opted for the steakhouse burger and decided to make it double. I asked for it rare and it came out well done, not a big deal cause it still had some juiciness left to it. The fries were decent and the ranch was only okay. This was a beautiful lunch spot. The outdoor seating and view were absolutely breathtaking. Service was prompt and extremely friendly. I beleive our servers name was Jack and he was attentive and made sure we had drinks and our food was satisfactory. The wings were deliciously tender and moist and we chose the maple bourbon flavor. I do wish they used a tiny bit more of the sauce. I opted for the strawberry harvest salad it was the perfect refreshing lunch portion. My boyfriend ordered their steak frites. We visited this restaurant tonight specifically to enjoy its exceptional scenic views and made reservations for an outdoor table. We drove an hour each way and brought my 89-year-old mother-in-law, who was visiting from North Carolina, making this a special outing for our family. Unfortunately, when we arrived, we were seated indoors rather than at the outdoor table we had reserved. The manager was very apologetic and courteous when I spoke with her, and I appreciate her professionalism. However, the main reason for choosing this restaurant was the outdoor dining experience and beautiful views, so the disappointment could not really be corrected once we were seated inside. The food and service may have been good, but the experience did not match what we specifically reserved and traveled so far to enjoy. For guests making reservations for outdoor seating, I would encourage the restaurant to communicate in advance if those accommodations cannot be honored. It would help avoid disappointment, especially for customers traveling significant distances for a special occasion. I hope management will review its reservation process so future guests can have the experience they planned for. read more

Fabulous spot with a great view, good food and nice service. We ordered the spinach dip which was amazing with the bread it came with and duck fat fries which were also delicious. Our table ordered the elk burger, chicken sandwich and pasta. Elk burger was nothing to rave about, just a normal burger that could've used a pickle or vegetable or two. Chicken sandwich looked amazing and the pasta which was presented well, lacked some flavor. The beers were nice, we got the seasonal along with a couple flights to try them all out. We had brunch at Top of The Rock on Sunday. Service was very quick and efficient. I had the Breakfast Burger with fries. The fries were excellent and the burger was a good value. My wife had the Breakfast Chicken Piccata and enjoyed it very much. Most of all she enjoyed her bloody mary. This was a spontaneous stop after seeing a sign while driving-l looked it up quickly, saw it was pet-friendly, and we decided to give it a try. The views here are absolutely incredible! That said, pet access is a bit limited. We were told that dogs used to be allowed throughout, but after complaints about dog hair in food, pets are now only permitted on the downstairs patio. Since you have to pass through the restaurant to reach that area, we couldn't go that way with Luna. Instead, the hostess showed us a short alternate route that involved a bit of an odd walk--ducking under a bridge to get to the back patio. A little strange, but totally worth it for the view. Steve got a flight of five beers (including the seasonal option), I had a margarita, and we shared the chicken nachos--which were large enough to count as a full meal. Everything, including the service, was great. They even brought Luna a bowl of water, and the patio had umbrellas and fans to keep everyone comfortable. read more

The chicken breast was soOoo thin it was ridiculous and the potatoes were severely overcooked. My husband didn't like the sandwich either. I must say though that the chicken gravy and eggs were perfectly cooked. We paid 20$ for each and felt they were way overpriced. The service was excellent. Friendly, fast, and attentive. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful. Modern and spacious. A large deck on the back of the restaurant with an amazing view. We had peach chili shrimp and spinach artichoke dip for appetizers. The peach chili shrimp was fine, it's not my favorite chili shrimp. I liked the spinach artichoke dip. I got the fish and chips and it was good. The fries were good and the fish were solid. The fish were nice and soft. We had the cookie with ice cream for dessert and it was really good. Wow. At the very top (like it says) of a long drive through the high end community of Jasper Highlands. There's also the Fiery Gizzard Pizzeria next door. The views and pic spot are unparalleled, with sweeping views of the valley. The whole space is gorgeous, inside and out. The bar is smallish but the bartenders did a great job with a big crowd and a mostly full dining room. They brew here as well and have an awesome beer selection. As we were a party of 20, we surely put the staff and kitchen to the test! Food was delicious, drinks were plentiful and we all had a wonderful time. Bravo! read more

Always clean, and the staff is always kind a& attentive. One time something from the kitchen accidentally ended up in my fries, and when brought to their attention they immediately took care of it, made me a completely new batch, and comped my entire meal. We made reservations for 4 at 6:30pm on a Friday night for the patio area with a view and arrived about 5 minutes early, then were told to wait as they were preparing our table. After they seated a few others when they first arrived I walked around a little to see how busy it was on patio and there were plenty of open tables. In about 6-7 minutes later they sat us with the menus already on the table and said someone would be by soon. After about 5 minutes later someone asked if we had been helped yet and we mentioned that we were told someone would be by soon. We contemplated ordering from the whiskey menu but at $14-$18 per serving, nothing on that selection was anything close being worth that expense. 10 minutes later, we finally were able to order drinks and water which took a good 10 minutes for the water to arrive, then another 10 minutes until the beers arrived. We noticed a lot of people looking around like they were wondering when they would be served too. After another 10 minutes we were finally able to order the artichoke and cheese appetizer for the table to share, but it took another good 15 minutes before it arrived. The server placed it in the middle of the table and said that someone would be by to take our dinner orders and hurried away before we had a chance to react and mention that we needed utensils or plates or napkins. So there we sat not touching it as our water and beer glasses sweated heavily in the humidity and dripping between the slats in the table onto our legs and the appetizer cooling with no servers in sight for a good 10-12 minutes. Finally when someone showed up to fill our water glasses we mentioned that we needed place settings and plates, that took another 3-4 minutes to arrive. By then we've been seated for over an hour discussing if we should just leave after noticing a lot of staff acting confused and apologizing to other guests about delays, a person showed up to take our order. One ordered a pizza, I ordered the fried cod, one ordered the elk burger and the other one ordered a spring chicken salad. All the dinners were tasty, especially the burger and pizza, but the quality and quantity was not worth the prices, especially the 2-1/2 small 3" long x 3/4" diameter strips of cod with only 8-10 French fries at most at a hefty $24? The ambiance and view was exceptionally pleasing but the waiting staff and management needs some serious training which pretty much made the experience disappointing. From where we live in Soddy Daisy it's an hour each way to the "Top in the Rock" restaurant. Considering all that, it will not be our place to go to treat out of town guests again. Unless I start seeing a major improvement in their reviews. read more
