Staff was very kind and sweet. We ordered the duck salad, an udon dish that the server recommended for kids, banh cuon special and a mango drink. The only thing I'd skip next time is the duck salad personally. It's not bad but didn't stand out. But I'm also not a huge fan of a bunch of cabbage in my salads. Everything else was pretty good but honestly the food didn't stand out as much as the service.
They have good Vietnamese food at reasonable prices and their own parking so you don't have to fight downtown crowds for a space. The place is byob, but don't forget your alcohol or you may end up at the slightly sketchy liquor store around the corner trying to find a good wine. All the dishes taste fresh. I particularly enjoyed my yellow noodles called Mi quang. It was different from the typical pho I order a lot. I especially liked the Vietnamese crackers.
I've heard tales of how good the Vietnamese food is in Houston. And boy, Huynh Restaurant lived up to the hype and more. I ordered the Bun Bo Hue, Duck Tea Salad, and Coconut Coffee. I've been on a Bun Bo Hue kick and while I have yet to find one that I've enjoyed more than regular pho, Huynh's was probably the best I've had yet. 4.3/5 The Duck Tea Leaf Salad was bright and very refreshing. Ordered as an appetizer, it was huge and was close to being a meal all by itself. I thought I had over ordered and probably did, but everything was so damn good, I finished it all. 5/5 Coconut coffee - this was my first time trying this. Served like a Vietnamese affogato, it came with a cup of coconut milk with coconut ice cream along with an espresso of Vietnamese coffee. Lord and waistline willing, I would consume one of these everyday. The contrasts of hot and cold, the bitterness of coffee with the creaminess of coconut. It all balanced and went so well together. Highly, highly recommend. 6/5 On top of all the amazing food was the service. I had just arrived from the airport and came close to their lunch closing time. They welcomed me graciously and without hesitation. As they began their lunch and I was finishing mine, multiple staff members paused their meals to refill water check in, etc. for not only me, but the other few remaining stragglers of the lunch crowd. Huynh is every bit worth it. I will be back each time I'm in town
Felt slightly more modern than your traditional Viet family owned restaurants. Parking lot is slightly sketchy though. People seem to really like the whole BYOB idea here. Overall, will definitely satisfy your craving for Viet food in Downtown. Ordered: - 95. Banh Cuon - Reminded me of the ones my grandma makes but with less meat in it. Not a big fan of the Vietnamese ham because it had some chunks of peppercorn but that's just my personal preference. - 73. Crispy Noodles with Seafood - Not usually a dish I typical order or care for. I was fine with it. - 57. Shaken Beef Rice - Beef was flavorful and tender. - Avocado Smoothie - Not much avocado flavor in my opinion.
I was craving pho after days of eating conference food and this place hit the spot. What I appreciated most was that the staff was able to explain all the different options and guide us to something that we'd like.
Nice Vietnamese option for downtown Houston. The pho broths were favorable, service was friendly and it's really spacious inside the restaurant! We ordered the phos and it was interesting to see you can select different meat options - I believe mostly on beef broth basis. My only wish was that the noodles would be freshly made or at least more cooked but I was impressed by the broth and generous accompaniments of basil, lime, sprouts and jalapeños to customize the pho flavors. We also ordered the shaking beef with upgrade cut and boy was it a flavorful and melting in our mouths. We also ordered the crispy fried noodles with vegetables and it was very nice! The menu is actually quite extensive with authentic Vietnamese dishes so it's pretty exciting to find this option in downtown houston! There is free parking along the strip mall and they take reservations for parties 6+.
Huynh has been a Houston staple for Vietnamese food for over 20+ years I believe, I can't believe I'm just now Yelping this spot. With the freeway expansion project starting, all these spots in this part of EaDo have an uncertain future, and I thought now was as good a time as ever to support them. Coming in for lunch around 1230pm on a Wednesday, this place was packed! Every parking spot in their private parking lot was full, with good reason of course. Huynh has lightning fast service, casual ambiance, and consistently tasty Viet food. This particular visit I had their duck salad and their combination banh cuon. 10/10 would order these again!! The salad is so fresh and flavorful while their banh cuon has the perfect chewy texture it makes you keep going back for more. The variety of Vietnamese dishes they offer here is endless especially if you're wanting to try something out of the usual pho or vermicelli bowls. Thanks Huynh for a great Wednesday lunch, I'll be back again for sure!
I've always kinda wondered why this place is so busy. The parking lot is trash and the area is getting totally reworked by TXDOT, yet they staying bustling. The food is the reason. It stands out compared to some of the more familar Vietnamese restaurants I've been to. The dishes are authentic and brought out quickly. I truly could not tell you the name of half the things I ordered, but I went and found the things that I couldn't normally get at other places and left rewarded. Choosing the adventurous path through the menu was the right choice here. Not ever menu items is the best version of the dish I've had, but they all stood on their own and I gladly ate everything we ordered. Interior is clean and modernized as to not feel super dated. It's welcoming and familiar enough to encourage newcomers and the staff was helpful in deciding what and how much to order.
Huynh is a pretty decently sized Viet restaurant. They're definitely quite busy even on weekdays. I think it took probably 30 mins to be seated. They did have a waiting room with seats though. I had their pork spring roll, beef ribs as a side, beef pho with everything including meatballs, and a side of egg fried rice. The spring rolls and the beef ribs were my favorite! I liked their pho as well, but it tasted lighter than what I'm used to
Huynh has been on our rotation of downtown lunch places and are sad to hear about the potential relocation with the I-45/I-59 expansion going on. Huynh's delivers high quality Vietnamese food in east downtown and is always packed during lunch time. Just to be clear, I want to give Huynh's 4.5/5 stars but I rounded down for this review. The food here is high quality but it is a little pricey for lunch and food can come out slow during peak business hours. Service: service is amazing here. They have a team of servers who work together during lunch service so you don't necessarily have an assigned waiter/waitress. Our water glasses were always filled and anytime we needed anything, we could stop anyone working and they would help us. Ambiance: the restaurant has a modern feel and has a very open concept. Not a lot of walls between tables so the restaurant can get loud when it's packed. The restaurant is clean and tidy and dirty tables were cleaned off almost immediately when diners left. Parking: there is a small parking lot in front of the restaurant but it's very limited parking so you have to get a little lucky during peak dining hours. There is street parking around the restaurant but it's mostly paid parking just an FYI. Parking authority is pretty strict in Eado. Food: we ordered the shrimp and pork spring rolls to start. It came with a side of peanut sauce. The spring rolls were fresh and the meat inside was good. The peanut sauce was delicious with the rolls. Each order comes with two spring rolls. My girlfriend ordered the pho ga with white chicken and the broth was flavorful and light. The chicken was not dry and the bowl of pho came with sides of jalapeño, bean sprouts, lime, and basil. The pho comes in regular or large and the regular is 26 ounces and the large is 39 ounces. I got the Com Bo Luc Lac which is tender chunks of beef tenderloin stir fried with peppers and onions and served with a side of rice and a peppery vinegar sauce. The sauce it comes with is amazing when you mix the veggies with the rice and meat. The meat is so tender and juicy. I wish they gave a larger portion but the meat is cooked so well. I ate every last piece of food on this plate. I highly recommend this dish. It is number 57 on the menu, it is pricier at $18.95 but I think it's worth it for the flavorful tenderloin cubes alone. While Huynh's may be on the pricier side of Vietnamese food, the higher quality food is something you should definitely try. It can be difficult to get to with all of the East downtown construction but make your way there for some delicious food. We will keep coming back as long as Huynh's is still in Eado.
Absolutely amazing! My husband found this spot after reading recommendations online. We came for lunch and enjoyed several broken rice dishes as well as Vietnamese iced coffee. The broken rice was so good that we have stopped thinking about it. The Vietnamese iced coffee came in a traditional phin filter which was a nice touch! The restaurant itself was very clean and felt upscale. The staff was so friendly and accommodating to our group which included for adults, two toddlers, and a baby. This is a spacious and well decorated place that would be great for date nights, get togethers with friends and family, or event celebrations!

For the shaken beef we did pay extra for the premium beef and it was TOTALLY worth it. I don't have photos but the Vietnamese coffee is the best I've ever had because there's a slight hint of chocolate flavor that I don't typically get in other cafe sua da's. Lastly their flan! I don't usually like flan but theirs was so good! Forgot to take a photo of that though. All in all, if you're craving Vietnamese, I'd highly recommend Huynh. I have not tried their pho yet so will def be trying that next time!
Absolutely blown away. The flavors, textures, all of it was incredible. Some of the best Vietnamese food I've ever had. The staff was all SO kind and helpful. The dessert was so unique and decisions!!! A coconut smoothie with coffee, you can adjust the sweetness to half sweet etc. which was great. Casual atmosphere , can't wait to come back already!
Solid Vietnamese restaurant located in downtown/east downtown (EaDo) that's been around for decades. It's walkable from the George R Brown Convention Center and the Marriott Marquis where we found ourselves for a staycation in Houston. I've been to Huynh's many times but it had been a while since I don't frequent downtown nor the medical center as much as I used to. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it's only a 5 minute walk from Marriott Marquis. We walked in late on a Saturday evening (the night of an Astros game down the street at Daikin Park) around 8 pm. We were promptly seated, and the service overall was very good. Everyone was friendly and attentive. My glass of water was always full. We ordered a standard large pho with 4 meats. At first I thought the broth looked a little light, but overall it was delicious. Grilled pork vermicelli with egg roll was amazing as expected. And lastly the pan fried noodle seafood plate was a hit. Everything we ordered and ate was great and we devoured it all. I will say that Huynh's is pricey, so don't think this is like cheap Asian takeout. It's quite nice in terms of ambiance despite the tight parking and surrounding businesses being a bit dingy. This downtown staple is always busy for lunch. We had a table of 6 so I was able to make a reservation at noon. 18% gratuity was added for the large table. It's normally on a first come first serve basis. Everything is always boiling hot and fresh when it is served. They do allow substitution for some items. Staff is nice and helpful. It's family owned. The place is always tidy and bustling with chatter. Parking is the only struggle of this place but so worth it if you can find it. read more

Just a heads up, this spot is in the heart of EaDo, close to the Dynamo stadium. If you don't get lucky finding parking in the lot, you'll have to find street parking and walk over. Start with any of their Hot teas and get the Duck and cabbage salad to start. Super fresh. I wish they used more chunks of duck instead of the scraps. Also tried the chicken and mixed vegetables noodles entree. Swapped the flat rice noodles for Udon noodles. The noodles were a bit more al dente than I am used to. The star of the menu was the Beef short rib. Holy cow. Pun intended. Also get the Shrimp coconut curry. Very well executed dish. Get the Bok Choy too. Their cafe su da is very tiny, don't expect a big sized drink. Overall super solid spot. read more

My friends from the bay area were visiting us and we were craving pho. Their pho broth was super flavorful. The veggies were fresh, no wilted leaves or questionable bunches. They give lime, bean sprouts, jalapeño slices, and Thai basil for the table. For my bowl of pho, I got tripe, tendon, and brisket. The brisket was a little tough, but the delicious broth made up for it. Wild recommend tripe and tendon, especially the tendon. Compared to pho places in the bay area in CA, we thought the portion was a bit smaller. My friend ordered a large and it was the size of a regular bowl at our favorite place in CA (and same price too). Service was great. Really speedy and responsive. Casual atmosphere and really nice for groups bc you can actually hear each other and converse! Definitely a more upscale pho place, as indicated by their price points relative to portions. Highly recommend getting their pho, would do tripe, tendon, and a different meat next time. Also, highly recommend the avocado smoothie coffee!! It sounds very random but it was DIVINE. Truly wowed all of us with how smooth a drink mixing coffee and avocado could be. Will definitely be back to try their other pho meats! read more

This place was super busy when we walked in and it made sense because they had a bunch of options on the menu. They had the skillet beef with egg and bread that isn't common at most Vietnamese restaurants so that was a nice place to be able to try that here. Got the pho and the Bun Bo Hue to try the Classics and they were pretty good! I think the soup could have been a bit stronger, but appreciated the amount of noodles they put into the soup bowls, which made it very filling and great proportions. The staff was attentive and friendly. There are a lot of seating options inside and it did not feel crowded at all. read more
Located in EaDo, as one of the few non gentrified restaurants. Parking is a pain, their front lot is usually full and it's paid parking everywhere else; EaDo isn't consumer friendly. The menu is huge and has way too many options. We ordered about everything besides their pho. Some dishes were a bigger hit than others, but overall, we were happy with the meal and the wide selection of Vietnamese dishes that are on the more traditional side. Their BBH was a bit underwhelming, don't recommend getting that one. Service is quick and on point and you get your food pretty quickly. read more
Tried out this vietnamese restaurant for the very first time in Houston with a colleague. The restaurant is very beautifully designed inside and feels very cozy. I thought the service was also pretty good. Our waiter Robin seemed really fun and knowledgeable about the menu as I was struggling to decide on my drink of choice, appetizers, and main course. She recommended a couple of options and I decided to go with the coconut juice as well as the spicy beef and vegetables with rice cake noodles based on Robin's recommendation. This meal was truly delicious as it was something very different than what I had ever tried at a Vietnamese restaurant before and the flavors truly amazing. For dessert I got the flan which was also really good as it created a surprising flavor with the coffee ice cubes on top of it. My colleague also got another Vietnamese dish which seemed good as well as their spring rolls and Jasmine hot tea. Overall the experience was great and I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Went to Huynh over the weekend and had a very nice experience. Unlike mid-week dining, weekends feel less rushed and not as crowded. Note: If dining at lunch during the week, ensure you get there before for 11:30am or after 12:45pm, both to secure a parking spot and a table! Table turnover is fairly quick, but parking spots are hard to find. Enjoyed the pulled duck salad with cabbage (#8) and a small order of bone-in chargrilled beef ribs (#6) as appetizers. Followed that up with chicken stir fried with grilled vegetable and added grilled jalapeños (L9). Also tried the pho with flank steak. Someday, I will try the durian smoothie! As usual, taste was outstanding! There was a service issue where one of the plates was sent to the wrong table, and it took repeated follow-up requests to get the food. On a side note, they sell the ribs by the pound if you want to grill them at home. That's my next to-go option. I can't wait till they open their next location on Richmond, between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway. read more

The Bo Luc lac was the star at out table! The meat is unbelievably tender and delicious. My Pho was only ok. All staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. Place is clean and well decorated. You can't tell by the outside but this is a great spot. read more

This place is a hidden gem in EaDo. It's sad to know that they will soon be relocating due to the upcoming freeway expansion. Since I had the opportunity to drop in again I got my usual, the bo luc lac with a fried egg. As always it hits the spot when I'm having a Vietnamese food craving. It is a bit on the expensive side for the dish but the quality it worth it in my opinion. Not to mention the service here is always great. The servers are attentive and make sure your drinks a full and dishes are cleared from the table quickly. I'll make sure to visit this location more often until it's relocated. The new location will be in the Upper Kirby neighborhood at 2720 Richmond Ave. read more

Ordered take out which was very efficient. Order was ready sooner than promised during later part of lunch. Had no problems getting parking. Standout was the bahn cuon (fresh rice paper) with the grilled pork. I would get two of those next time although I want to try the combination order. The sauce was good, texture was perfect and the bed of veggies was fresh. Also ordered two orders of the spring rolls with only shrimp. Also had a grilled pork with broken rice dish which was good although the pork was a little fattier than what I usually experience. If you're in downtown this is a good spot. Deducted a star because price was pretty expensive - maybe picking up using DoorDash inflated the price? Spring rolls were $6.95 for order of 2. Banh Cuon $17.95 and broken rice with pork $17.95. Vietnamese shop in middle of small shopping strip. The place is a lot nicer looking on the inside. Felt like a real sit down restaurant versus just a pho place. I got a large pho with my 4 choices of beef. The server was super knowledgeable, friendly, and educated my friend patiently about who isn't very familiar with Vietnamese food. Food came out quickly and we got our nice shared plate of toppings. My only criticism might be the quantity. Large bowl, lots of soup but didn't seem like that much noodles. I was able to eat everything. Broth was all right but too much volume for me. Overall service was very good. Prices typical. read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE If you've eaten at Huynh on St. Emanuel, you already know: this is Vietnamese cuisine at its freshest and most flavorful, with roots in both the North and South of Vietnam and a few fusion surprises that always land just right. Every visit here has been a masterclass in balance--rich broths, bright herbs, crisp vegetables, and bold grilled meats, all arranged with care. Their lemongrass beef vermicelli, ginger duck salad, and pho are standouts, but you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Every plate bursts with color, crunch, and fresh herbs--lettuce, basil, mint, cucumber, bean sprouts--not as garnish, but as essential parts of the dish. This isn't just a meal--it's a sensory experience. Now, the big news: Huynh is relocating to Upper Kirby in early 2026 (2720 Richmond Ave). As sad as I am to see the St. Emanuel location go (blame I‑45 construction), I'm thrilled that this family-run gem will continue with the same menu and spirit in a new home. Will be located at the old Sonoma Wine Bar location. Until then, I'll be back at the original location every chance I get. And when the doors open in Upper Kirby, I'll be first in line. When are you moving to the old Sonoma space on Richmond near Kirby?
Huynh is not moving, we are opening a second location. At this time, we hope to have it open by the end of March.
Are there any non-meat based broths for the pho?
Pho is a beef-based broth, so even the pho with tofu & vegetables uses pho broth. Huynh has several other soup/broth options, including chicken-based broth and a spicy broth with chilis and lemongrass, but they are not vegetarian either. There…

Yes, Huynh is BYOB. There is a $2.50 BYOB fee for each person drinking. Also, the Super K store next to Huynh has an excellent selection of beer and wine.
