It was also bland and needed a lot of salt and pepper. The sauce tasted of a cream and butter sauce as opposed to a creamy cheese sauce. Giving these clowns 1 star is a HUGE compliment. It was raining heavily in Williamsburg so my family and I decided to not go far from our hotel and just eat here. We were quite hungry so we ordered the ham and corn chowder, St. Louis ribs and a garden salad with thousand island dressing. Let's just say out of all the three, the tap water they served as our beverage was the best tasting. The chowder had a strong cheesy flavor, the ham was nonexistent and I felt as if they dumped the thing from a can of creamed corn and called it a chowder after tossing it in the microwave. The garden salad didn't taste fresh at all and the serving was pretty small, not commensurate with the plate it was served on. Now the ribs were dry and tasteless, so much so that you can tell the thing wasn't seasoned, not enough sauce was absorbed into the meat and it flaked rather easily. I had to ask for more sauce (which wasn't that good either) to cover up this nasty taste. I noticed there were not a lot of customers (3 in the entire building aside from my family of 2) there and the lighting was rather dim. I have the following hypothesis: it doesn't seem like they have a lot of foot traffic and hence there's no reason for them to pay attention or serve fresh food to their customers. Despite some of the recent negative reviews, we ate a quick dinner here one night out of convenience. It's basically Applebees/Chilis food and service. Overall, I was pleased... and after going back and checking the reviews again I noticed many 1 star reviews were from people that had only 1-5 Yelp reviews (and they were all negative). I suppose it's a losing proposition to be an average eatery at a large hotel complex that sees a ton of people passing though where many people will only review it if they had a bad experience. This is not some local gem or a destination place, it's a place to have a quick bite if you're passing through the hotel or visitor center. Stayed at the Woodlands, this little restaurant was very convenient. We didn't feel like going down to the Historic area for an evening treat and decided to go to Huzzah. They have a nice variety of tasty items. We were with another couple and everyone was quite happy with the food. I was especially impressed by our waitress Kathryn. She was very efficient, helpful and not to hard on the eyes. The menu variety is very much improved since our last visit to Williamsburg. All in all a very good experiance. read more

Our hotel was right next door so after a long day of driving we decided to go here for dinner. The pizza was good. The beer flight only had one local beer sampling although it was supposed to be four. The others were fat tire and shock top...The chocolate cake was so dry we couldn't eat it. Very nice--not connected to the Woodlands Hotel, but within a few yards, and definitely part of the whole Colonial Williamsburg compound, close to the Visitors Center. Good food--the ribs were good, and we tried both the baby back and the St. Louis style. The sides--potato wedges, succotash, collard greens--were all abundant and tasted good. We didn't get dessert because we wanted to catch the shuttle a few yards away. But the beer choices were good. And the prices are reasonable. If you're at Woodlands, definitely go here. read more

After our first day in Williamsburg we went to the closest restaurant to the Woodlands Hotel we were staying at. Huzaah is within walking distance of the hotel, but since the layout of the complex is confusing it isn't the easy to see where you enter. The food was pretty good, I had the ribs and although I felt there was not a lot of meat on the ribs it still had a good taste. The sauces they had were very good and had a distinct taste. read more

Off the beaten path for an out of town person (we stayed about a mile away). We went on a Friday evening with our 3 year old and it wasn't too busy and we were seated right away. They had plenty of options for our son. Our waitress Sherri P (who was wonderful) brought out a basket of popcorn before we ordered. We ordered a 1/2 rack of baby back ribs (fell off the bone good), a Cuban sandwich, and a chicken fingers kids meal and everything was very good. Also very reasonably priced. Sure enough, small portion size. And my portion was full of fatty chunks. Sauces are on the table, and I was stoked about seeing NC style. Well they can call it that but it's not. There's tomato sauce in it or something. Very light vinegar flavor, no heat to it. Really disappointed. Collard greens are fine. Coleslaw is typical bland coleslaw. Kettle chips are fine though unseasoned. Service was average. Odd that another table sat after us and was finished food before we got ours. Very poor service. We arrived with no reservation and were told we would have to wait until reserved parties were seated. This would have been fine but there were no customers to seat and the restaurant was only 40% full. We decided to place a to go order instesd but there was no bartender to place an order. We finally asked a waitress who took our order. It took over 45 minutes to get 3 pizzas, one regjlar and two kids pizzas. The pizza was almost burned on the outside but soggy in the middle. We ate here with a group of 14, including a bunch of kids. Overall a great experience. Definitely check out the corn hole outside, while waiting for your food! (The service was fairly slow, but I guess that's to be expected with a group.) Unique aspects that make this bbq stand out: the complimentary popcorn and cornbread. Make reservations as this place was crowded every time we went. The menu selection isn't huge but this is one family-friendly restaurant. Great for families visiting Colonial Williamsburg as it provides pizza for the kids, Dad can still enjoy a plate of ribs and a local beer and Mom still gets a tasty chicken caeser salad that approximates sticking to responsible eating. We went back there a second time 2 nights later and had different menu selections and everything was just as tasty as as the first night. OK, this place isn't the Williamsburg Inn or one of the Colonial Taverns. But if you are looking for a family-friendly place to relax and eat a tasty meal after wearing your feet out walking all over Colonial Williamsburg, this is definitely the place to go. Another 2-star review based on Yelp's definition of 2-star being "Meh. I've experienced better." It's true. I have. The food was at least edible, but it wasn't "knock you off your socks" good - Not by a long shot. Here's my complaint: If your food is going to be less-than-average, your prices ought to be reflective of that. My wife and I shared the Huzzah's Burger (Burger patty, lettuce, tomato, shaved beef brisket, smoked Gouda, fried egg, beer battered onion ring, bourbon bacon BBQ sauce), for $19. It wasn't that great. It tasted like some chef who smokes (thereby trashing his palate), was creating a burger, and after adding each item, he asked, "Okay, but what ELSE could we put on it?" It's one, or two things too much, and the end result may fiscally warrant a $19 price tag, it tastes like THEY should pay ME to eat it. Our kids got a cheese pizza, which was very much "Meh" to me. I get that it's a tourist spot, and that you're going to pay tourist prices. But if that's the world you are in, you ought to make it seem like you care. I don't know if these guys are delusional, and truly think their menu is not only good, but worth the price they charge their customers, or if they're just trying to capitalize on being an eatery within a tourist destination and feel they can reasonably get away with overcharging, and underdelivering. Either way, with the exception of the Continental Breakfast that is served simultaneously in the dining area of the Williamsburg Woodlands, and inside Huzzah's, I won't be planning any future meals inside the walls of Huzzah's unless I get word that things have improved. I'm already planning to spend a lot of money when I am on vacation to Williamsburg, and so I can choose to either eat some quality meals that deliver on flavor and value, or I can throw my money away eating here. She didn't see it either then she asked the cook and said it's in the red sauce so technically it is there but not visible. NO STARS, really! Was not happy at all with the initial service. As soon as we arrived, we were asked if we wanted a table or a booth. We were a family of 7. We asked for a booth and were seated at a booth in the back, near the restrooms. We were seated in the back after bypassing 3 booths in the front of the restroom. Our kids were not too happy about it, noticing there were only white families seated in the front and only one other black family seated in the rear. The food In a word is fine. It honestly seemed like leftovers from the taverns in colonial Williamsburg, with high prices for relatively low quality food, but zero ambience to offset the cost. Although it's billed as a casual eatery, it isn't open for lunch. If you're staying in one of the "official" hotels that makes it difficult to plan lunch for kids during the middle of tourist time. We also noticed a huge up charge for cheap vodka. Prices aren't published, so beware. Agreeing that Smirnoff is "fine" means you're getting a tiny $14 martini. It's designed like a Pizza Hut, the food is along the lines of 1980s Ruby Tuesday, and the customer service is nearly non-existent. I came in just after opening for dinner. We asked to sit outside since we had a crazy toddler with us, and was told "no." I'm guessing the weather forecast might have been the reason, but it was blue skies all night long. Either way, a flat no isn't the best received response. That said, our actual waitress and her trainer were outstanding... But for that ridiculous martini. These two ladies should probably be assigned to a better establishment if they're CW employees. There are any number of places to eat in and around colonial old town. The convenient location is not at all worth it, I recommend you spend your vacation someplace you'll actually enjoy. read more

We did not have a good experience. We were seated outside and given menus. After 12 minutes no one had come to serve us. So I went in and spoke to the person who seated us. That person then denied he had seated us but said he'd "send someone out". I guess we magically seated ourselves and procured our own menus. After about 5 more minutes a waitress came out and asked if we'd been taken care of. We finally were able to order. Bread was brought but no utensils for the butter and jam provided. Not a good start of our trip with this place. We took all the positive reviews and tried this place. We felt like outsiders when everyone else was be attended to and we arrived before them. My pasta with pesto was lukewarm and the waitress forgot my grilled chicken. Sent the pasta back and it was returned very warm but dry. Found an ant crawling near my son's food. And the kids pizzas were burnt along with my garlic bread. Would not recommend if you want quality good. And we were overcharged on the sales tax at about 12% and no one could answer why. My family and I came here for dinner while visiting Colonial Williamsburg. My three companions all ordered hamburgers and loved them. I got some pasta, which was pretty good considering it's not specifically an Italian restaurant. The ambience was alright; this is definitely a great spot for families, but lacks some of quirky ambience of the places in Merchant's Square.
