While Hy-Vee does have some things that I need, I find it pretty over priced compared to competing stores. However, I do want to appreciate the fact that they are employee owned and seem to treat their employees decently which could be a factor in the higher prices. So I will only take one star off. Other than that, I like Hyvee for its selection of items. I have difficulty finding certain things like buttermilk and disposable food containers at Aldis/Walmart that I like so I am often over in Hyvee to get those things as I bake a lot! I also like to make candy and candied things like grapes so I LOVE their selections in their candy aisle. Their candy aisle is pretty unique compared to other stores as well as their flower area and beauty area which has bath bomb selections! Regarding the atmosphere, it always pretty nice when I go. I have never had any issues with a product being missing/out of stock or an employee. 5/5 for the atmosphere. I also like that there's free samples for you to try, like the beef brisket I got to try today, and cute little food area where you can eat any of the prepared food you buy that they sell such as Chinese food and sushi.

Just twenty minutes ago. Stopped to get some lunch meat. Picked Mesquite Chicken. The display counter clearly showed a price of $9.99. The label on the package says $10.99? I questioned this at checkout and couldn't even get a price check. Huh? Never again. Clear case of price gouging. Like what, did Trump buy HyVee?

I first visited in May for produce but found the quality and selection underwhelming. Later, I heard they stocked some unique ice cream brands, so I went back to check them out. While I appreciate the unique selection, the prices were pretty steep--likely due to tariffs, logistics, and convenience. There was only a couple of customers on a weekday lunchtime, so it was quiet. Since I make monthly grocery runs to Chicago suburbs, I ended up getting my specialty ice creams there instead. I also browsed their hot food bar but didn't find anything that appealed to me. There's also a small cafe attached where they sell baklava and other sweets. On the plus side, the location is very central with plenty of parking.

I took a picture of the label just in case I forgot all off the goodness in it - perfectly cooked pasta, shreds of good cheese, celery, green pepper, scallions, and apparently some cream along with the mayo. I think I will give it a shot this weekend - hopefully it will be just as yummy.

Surprisingly, they carry a wide selection of international products. I was delighted to find these viral ice creams at the West Side location (there's also one on the East Side of Madison). These ice creams became popular about 1.5-2 years ago. I first tried lemon in LA late 2024 and then mango in Houston earlier this year, but this is the first time I've seen them in an American grocery store. While they're also available at Global Market (an Asian grocery store on the East Side), Woodman's price is unbeatable--just $9 for a box of three, compared to around $12 plus tax in LA. The outer shell is a crunchy white chocolate coating, while the inside is fruity ice cream flavors like mango, peach, lemon, and apricot (no actual fruits). They also offer unique flavors such as durian, grape, and tangerine. It's great to see Woodman's carrying these, hopefully more people will get to try them!

The "more" also includes fresh-made pasta, hand cut meats and cheeses, gelato and a few other absolutely delish items! Back to that sandwich...we were not hungry, but could not pass up a good sandwich, especially one freshly made on locally sourced and baked bread! The bread was the absolutely star of each bite, I mean...sheesh! The sandwich in full was great, and definitely worth the stop in on its own. The store itself is small, but mighty, and well laid out, stocked with all the goods, flows well, clean and in great condition. Service was stellar as well. We were greeted upon entry, checked on while browsing and chatted up while being rang out. I've tried some of their beers and they've been OK. Like other Aldi stores, this one has been recently renovated so it's much nicer and better organized. For newcomers, it's important to remember to bring a quarter for the shopping cart and tote bags since they don't bag for you at checkout (you can also buy recycled or plastic bags there). I made the mistake of visiting on a Sunday around noon, and it was chaos. The underground parking garage holds maybe 20 cars, and the line to get in stretched onto the street.
