I had low expectations and was still let down. I gott two rooms one for my parents and the other for my sister, nephew and myself through Hotwire. My parents room reeked of cigerette smoke. Our room however had a roach and the fridge smelt like someone let food spoil in it (I picked up the welcome book and the next thing I knew there was a roach crawling on my arm.) Called down, they were apologetic and asked if we wanted a different room. They threw in two breakfast vouchers for a three person room and shortly after brought keys to the new room. The new room appeared clean until we came back to the room for the night. *side note when we returned to the hotel another bug fell on me in the interior of the hotel and went down my shirt. Two bugs in one hotel stay. When showering I discover that the shower head worked but was also spraying onto the ceiling. That didn't look like a new issue since it was clearly repainted. In the morning I pushed back the window covers to check the cloud coverage to determine if the Willis Tower would worth the trip, noted a folded pair of socks covered in dust. The one plus was that Jaxx was able to accommodate us for a late meal 20 minutes before closing. However, even though room service is open until 11, versus 10 for te resturant, they were essentially closed and packed up for the evening. The fact that I felt the need to create a Yelp account to review this hotel says a lot. Needless to say this hotel is not some place I would intentionally return to. read more

I know the building is old but the decor is older. Stayed here for a few nights and was not impressed. It's like walking into the 70s. You want to know the quality and upkeep of a hotel...look at their elevators. Old old button panel on one side. Stains everywhere. Rattles all the way up and down. Dated old decor. Rooms were no better and I was on a "re-done" floor. Smoke detector was a stand alone old school detector and non integrated with any central system. All the countertops and furniture had an old, cheap feel. The hallway carpet and common space was old and dated. Overall a bad experience. Looks like Hyatt is just bleeding this one to death. Check-in took a significant amount of time as the person at the front desk was not attentive, and instead chatted with another clerk. The room was in decent shape, but hairs were present in the tub upon check-in. Walls were so thin that I heard the person next door snoring all night. I had to call twice for clarification on billing and twice to request the room be serviced. We did not receive breakfast coupons, resulting in a ridiculously over-priced breakfast charge. Overall, unhappy with this experience. I am usually very happy with Hyatt properties. This was my first poor experience. I was never asked about my stay upon checking out. I was on the planning committee for my 40 year High School Reunion. We chose the Hyatt because of it's easy access for out of town classmates. The event staff was so helpful in assisting us with all of the choices to be made. They even had the Chef talk to me and explain how he set up the food stations. We had the event in the Atrium with Appetizer Stations instead of having it in a ballroom sitting at round tables. This type of setting has the guests mingling with one another more. This is a Business Class hotel with good accommodations and OUTSTANDING service! The rooms are suite-like. In the first "room", you'll find a large glass-top desk and chair, 2 recliners, a couch/fold-out, and fridge. A wall and entertainment center creates the separation from the bed-"room" where you'll have either one or two queen sized beds (COMFY COMFY COMFY!). The television can be swivel'd to face into either the living room or the bed(s). Hi-speed internet. Marginal workout facility. Indoor pool. Friendly friendly Shuttle drivers! SERVICE at its very BEST! Beginning with the front desk/concierge you will find them to be incredibly (incredibly, I say!) helpful and attentive, going far and beyond what I expected. At the end of my stay, when the $60 private car from the hotel to Midway Airport didn't sound too appealing, Anna spent a half-hour to schedule, map, and illustrate a train-ride into downtown Chicago and an "El"/subway ride out to Midway that costs only $5 total. With a little bit of planning, I got one more chance to walk around and sight-see in downtown Chicago; more than worthwhile! You'll also find the sincerely helpful and attentive waitstaff at the hotel restaurant (I only partook in the complimentary breakfast buffet, but they had a Chilean sea bass on the dinner menu that I'm eager to try next time I'm there!). The Metra station (equivalent to Caltrain, for those of us here in the Bay), only a mile away, is a scenic and affordable 40-minute ride smack-dab into downtown Chicago (about two blocks from "the loop", Chicago's hub of subway/"El" trains...). From here, a good amount of Chicago can be seen on foot, reached by subway, or by taxi... My company's headquarters is located in Northbrook, a mere mile or two from this hotel, and this is one of two hotels that are approved for expensing when/if we come to town. Even so, I'd seriously consider staying here, even for another social visit to the Chicago area... Note: There aren't very many evident entertaining places to see in Deerfield. It seems to be mostly companies and corporations. But there are a few local joints within driving distance that are worth a look-see... check out Ram, Cubby Bear, and Yard House for starters... read more

I contemplated leaving a review simply because my company uses Hyatt Deerfield often and I didn't want to "bite the hand that feeds me", but I feel compelled to review this place for all of you who are paying to stay here with your own money. Upon arrival, it looks great: clean, smells good, modern, bright. Whatever staff there is, they seemed nice enough. But that's pretty much where it starts and stops. - No real front desk. The podium is tucked away behind a wall, next to the snack bar. I saw people standing in line but I wasn't sure if they were checking in or waiting to purchase Oreos from the snack shack. There's no sign and only one person working the podium/desk. - There does not seem to be a hotel events board- the monitor or sign where the days events are listed and you can find where your meeting is and what room it's in. If there is one, I couldn't find it. Luckily, the hotel is not that big so I found where I needed to go after some wandering and asking others. - Room service ends at 11:00pm. Not so helpful for hungry business travelers who fly in late and need food. The hotel is not near anything convenient- not a 7-11 or McDonalds in sight. They have a Starbucks and a couple restaurants on site but nothing was open when I arrived at 11:15pm. They offer a menu from the local pizza joint that delivers (no minimum delivery fee-yay!) until 2am but it took them 40 minutes to get here. - The walls are thin. I can hear people urinating into their toilets at night. Nice. - The most frustrating: there are inadequate power sources in the room. There is only one 4-outlet plug in the wall next to the bed. Too bad it's too far from the night stand so now you have to charge your phone and iPad and leave it on the carpet. Ew. There are two outlets on the desk but that is on the other side of the room. So if you want to keep your phone by the bed, be prepared to move furniture and give up a light source because you have to either unplug that or the clock. Really? Definitely poor design if they are trying to accommodate business travelers. - The wall-mounted hair dryer did not work. Lucky me that I discovered this only when I was trying to get ready for my meeting with 20 minutes to spare and a head full of wet hair. On a positive note, housekeeping brought one up within 5 minutes. - The in-room iron ruined my white shirt. Bad on my part that I didn't clean the iron beforehand (really? Has it come to this that I am expected to do this?) but when I put the hot iron to my white dress shirt, it left black, sticky residue. So now I'm scrubbing my shirt in the sink, and kicking myself that I trusted a hotel iron to do its job. - Housekeeping cuts corners. The bed is made, the towels are replaced and the room was straightened but the toiletries and breakfast menu door hanger were never replaced. Good thing I noticed I needed more shampoo before I was actually in the shower. (Which again, they brought up immediately). And I had to call again the next night for them to bring me more. Think I can ask for my gratuity back? - The ice machines do not work. I had to go to another floor and the only ice that was in that machine was what was in the dispenser chute. It was half melted and dripping. Nothing happens when you push the button. I only needed it to chill a bottle of water so it was enough. - The gym was clean, nice and had perks: headphones to use, fresh fruit, cold towels, water, clean towels. It had the basics: treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, machines. - The bed is hard as a rock. If you prefer that, then you probably won't mind. I'm not a hotel snob- I'm usually content with any type of lodging. But it's the little things that tick me off because it shows apathy and overlooking the basics. There's not much they can do now about the thin walls and hard mattresses but things like working ice machines, hair dryers, clean irons, and available outlets are easy fixes. If they are targeting business travelers and large groups for meetings, they will need to step up their game. I would most likely not spend my own money and stay here. read more

This hotel was a very nice getaway! I liked how the sitting area was separated from the sleeping area! You could also rotate the tv so that you can watch TV in bed. The breakfast buffet was also delicious and offered a plethora of hot and cold choices! The lobby has gorgeous decor for just sitting and enjoying a drink! Back during my consulting life, I spent a solid year and a half as a weekday (and sometimes weekend as well) guest at the Hyatt Deerfield. This place practically became a second home for me. Quick aside -- if you're going to do what I did and practically live in a chain hotel for over a year, DO join their frequent guest program. Over the span of time that I stayed at this Hyatt, I racked up enough Gold Passport points for half a dozen free weekends at Hyatt hotels all over the country. You'll also be treated like a king when redeeming points. Made all of those 11:30pm room service dinners during project crunch times worth it! Obviously, I felt enough at home at this place to have stayed every week for 18 months. It's in a great location for a business traveler as there are a number of corporate office park locations within a ten minute drive. Plenty of good restaurants in the area, but the room service at this hotel was great in its own right but got a little old if you did it every night. Comfortable, well-appointed rooms but the one caveat I would offer would be to try for a room as far away from the elevators (and meeting rooms) as possible. You know, due to the loudmouths in the corridors. Plenty of parking that's safe and well-lit. Easy access to I-294 and the Lake-Cook Road corridor as well. I used to fly into O'Hare and it was about a 30 minute drive to/from the hotel, other than on Friday afternoon rush when (like everywhere else in Chicagoland) it was a grind. This is a nice place that I would definitely stay at again if I ever have the occasion to spend a night in the Deerfield area. A little pricey, but then again, I was able to expense my room and meals so that wasn't much of a factor for me. read more

I must say, this Hyatt is usually pretty crowded and entertaining. The fact that they are surrounded by huge businesses and as close to the tollway as you can get (and a mile or so to the edens) are certainly useful things. On some nights they have a wii and wii sports, combine that with drunkenness and you can imagine the entertainment value! Overall, the rooms are pretty spacious if you get the king bed rooms. They usually consist of a cough, lounge chair with ottoman, desk area for working (with a ethernet jack or phone jack, not sure), nice swivel tv, bed and climate control. Every time I have come here to visit friends, etc or just stay I have been pretty impressed. The layout is nice in the lobby, on busy days they have a pretty good sized standard buffet with consistently fresh (but not that varied food). The room service food however is extremely elaborate but definitely overpriced. An Ahi Tuna sandwich for like 16$? I mean Ahi is awesome, but jesus anything over $10 for that is just overkill. However, rooms are always fresh and clean and the place doesn't have any kind of slack or trashy approach to it. Definitely a nice hotel to stay at, if you have the hookup or something. I believe freelancer's union has discounts at the hyatt. Gym is clean, pool looks nice (never checked it out), and damn close to great towns and places. Since yelpers would be reading this I'm sure they can find the good stuff nearby....good old chicago rule: Everything is 45 minutes away by car. Oh yeah. They have real high speed internet but it's a freakin scam price at the time of this writing (17$ a night for "broadband" or 10$ for web surfing? talk about costly for a 225KB/s cap). I'd rather tether my phone than pay for that. read more

Staff was pleasant and I didn't really deal with them, so this is totally not a service or staff issue, it is simply based on the fact that this place charges more than other hotels, yet provides less and tries to nickle and dime customers for everything! - no free wi-fi - no free breakfast - smaller rooms (at least my King room was small) Mind you the lobby was nice - but I don't plan on sleeping in the lobby. I was here for a wedding and boy did the hotel show poorly. The staff was rude and not accommodating. The food just sucked and and was darn near inedible. The year is 2014 and the room had no cell service so you check wifi and there is a $19 charge no free service! Come on that is just bad service in today's world. Food: Apps: I am going to keep this simple, ALL of the appetizers were cooked poorly. The breads they were served on were hard and not in the toasted way, no this was in the microwaved till it is dead way. Dinner: Lobster bisque, salty and tasteless Chicken was rubbery and the skin left on was un-rendered and just fatty. The veggies on the plate were just sitting in a sauce that left rings around the plate and seemed to be flavored by a sheep stock and not cooked out for each plate. the mashed potatoes had to have come from powder, I hope no real potatoes were harmed in the creation of this monstrosity. read more

Meh. This place was not for us. I looked at the Hyatt for a potential wedding. The property itself is beautiful, but its event potential just was not speaking to me. The catering director was responsive but did not seem super knowledgeable about the packages. Unlike other facilities, the space did not have a good flow for a wedding. We would have to move guests to a semiprivate space for cocktails. For an event like this, it would just be better to have cocktails in a more private setting. Finally, the minimums were higher than many equivalent properties in the area. It was enough for us to say "no" to the Hyatt. read more

This hotel needs work. Entrance is very nice and the hotel is clearly being modernized, but Hyatt needs to expedite the work. I had to have my room changed as the hallway clearly had some sort of water leakage and was VERY musty smelling. The hallways were tidy but really needed a good clean. The room smelled of lavender, almost as though incense had been added. Lighting inside the room was poor. The furniture within the room was recently updated and had a nice appearance. This is my first time staying with Hyatt and unfortunately for them it will also be my last. Disappointed to say the least read more

Yup, I am a fan of the Deerfield Hyatt. While my knowledge of the amenities of this hotel are basically non existent, as all I did here was pretty much sleep. I did love my room. It is very easy to get to right of the freeway, even though google does say the entrance is off of the on ramp. While the entrance to the hotel both from the room and from the parking lot is a little less than desired, my room was great. Spacious, well laid out, a living room area with a couch and a full desk. There was a cabinet separating that from the bed area that had a flat screen on a pivot that could face either way. This hotel was all that I wanted and need for my stay. Hard to give it a 5 star without using any of the amenities or interacting with really any staff but the individual that gave me my keys, but I would go back for sure. read more

Rooms here are comfortable. If you're staying here during the cold ass winter, run that heater up and at night you'll sleep like a baby. Mar and Ezekel were the Hyatt drivers. Talk them and they'll help you with transportation wherever you want to go. Talk to the front desk about limo prices too because Mar got over on me for a limo trip to the city one time. If you don't feel like hittin up the city, The bar they have in the downstairs lobby is where it's at. Rigo and Angelo are the bartenders there and they are as cool as it gets. I hate to write bad reviews-especially when we stay for hockey events because lets face it-the kids reek havoc no matter what! That said I hope that this Hyatt reads this review and takes it as constructive criticism and not just bitching and moaning. The hotel is huge! If I had to guess there are 250-300 rooms on 6 floors. They have a huge lobby that accommodates several hundred people and they have a large section for meetings and private events -likely also capable of hosting hundreds of people. You get the idea--its huge! There is one entrance to this hotel-you need to walk at least 100 yards from every front (these are the more desirable spaces) parking space to get to the front desk (some are 200 yards). Every front parking space is at least 40-50 yards away from the main entrance (full disclaimer these are estimates) you get the idea--you need to walk a long way no matter what. There are approximately "desirable" 150 (again an estimate) parking spaces. There are another 150-200 spaces spread around the building both sides and fully along the back side that also filled up--remember there is only one entrance. If you go down the stairwell and think you are able to exit to rear of building-wrong! The exit door says use in case of fire only "Alarm will sound". These spaces are 1/4 mile from front desk (again estimate but walking at night in the wind lugging whatever was really fun!). You get the idea-huge hotel small parking lot overflow parking barely makes up for it, no rear entrance and 1/4 miles walk if you are lucky enough to find a space in the back 40. By the way did I mention that the elevators stopped working and we tried to go down every stairwell (except the only one on each floor that leads to the lobby-no signs and no warning at each stairwell oh I don't know how about fire exit only no access to lobby you are here if you want to go to the lobby go here). No coffee available till 6am. You can drive down the road to Dunkin but you will likely lose your parking space! Last thing-there seems like only 2-4 hotel staff are on duty at any given time. Restaurant staff far outnumbered them-food was okay but pricey and you cannot bring in food from outside which seems like a lot of hotels are moving to these days. When we showed up on Thursday we checked in online and just stopped in to pick up our key. We got to the room and there was no tv remote (could not turn on tv manually either). We tried to call front desk and the phone was dead-turns out there was no phone cord! And the safe was locked. No one came to help that night and the next day we ate breakfast and came back to the room to find the safe unlocked, the phone working and the tv remote hmmm....perhaps someone locked everything in the safe upon checkout. In closing, nice hotel concept but the execution is poor. They could not handle the tournament crowd and whats worse is they had months to prepare for this. We did not just show up here on Thursday! One bit of advice to Hyatt. Treat hockey crowds like we are not forced to stay here by the tournament. Hockey families tend to travel a lot. We are creatures of habit. If we like the places we are forced to stay at by stay and play tournaments--we are very likely to pick these places when we do have a choice. I booked a room here and was under the impression that I was getting a room with two beds since there were two of us who were not a couple staying together, and we ended up getting a room with one bed and one pullout sofa bed that no one would ever be able to sleep on because it's so uncomfortable - you know where you can feel the metal wire underneath you? So I asked if they could give us a room with two beds they said no they were sold out. So I asked for a partial refund which they did do - so that was a redeeming quality, but no help to my poor friend who ended up sleeping on the sofa itself which was horrible as well. The actual beds themselves are bouncy and not comfy either. What the heck is the point of free wifi when it doesn't even work? The sink part of the bathrooms does not have a door - kind of annoying. Most hotels that I've been to offer a free breakfast, and this place does not which is strange to me. I went downstairs to grab some and was told no they don't do that. Maybe that's just not the norm here in Chicago? So far it has not been great for the price - I decided to splurge a little when booking a hotel and this DEFINITELY doesn't feel like a splurge - probably should have stayed with a Holiday Inn to at least get a piece of fruit or something. read more

Stayed at this Hyatt when traveling to Deerfield for work. When I arrived and approach the checkin desk, the Guest Agent (Megan) was busy. Another Guest Agent (Jeremy) saw that I just arrived and immediately logged in to assist me. No wait at all. Jeremy was super nice and showed great customer service. Once Megan completed the other guest, she join the conversation with Jeremy and I. Both were knowledgable about the area and gave me information regarding their services. On my second day at the hotel, the house keeping accidentally left my door open (not wide, but not shut). I spoke with Jeremy regarding this issue and he immediately took action and informed the managers to make sure more care was taken. I also received an email the next day from Allison apologizing of the incident. Great customer service and great team! read more

Wedding Reception The Hyatt Regency was the perfect place for our wedding. Randi was phenomenal - asked all the questions we wanted answered and even asked some we didn't think to discuss! She and the team at the Hyatt made our day SO special. It looked beautiful and the chef did an outstanding job. We still are hearing about how our wedding had the best food and the best dancing! I love that this venue offered a reception room but also a huge hallway with more private bathrooms for guests and a ton of room for people to move about comfortably. The night was fantastic. Randi and her team checked on my husband and I countless times and even checked in with my parents who paid for the evening to be sure everything was going smoothly. The rooms at the hotel were beautiful too; our guests had nothing but good things to say. We HIGHLY recommend the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Deerfield! To be clear, this is a review of the catering / event / banquet facility end of the Deerfield Hyatt's business and not of the hotel, or its rooms or amenities. Recently I was a host of an event for approximately 250 people at this location. Unfortunately the high prices (higher drink prices than agreed to) , an archaic and confusing drink-ticket purchasing policy, and the simple fact that the hotel made the decision to only offer bottled water at $4.00/bottle (tap water was intentionally made unavailable), make this location one I would never use again, and far overshadow the above average food that was served. While the food was good overall as mentioned, the staff was completely incompetent, sometimes taking a full minute or more to complete a simple beer-bottle-wrapped-in-a-cocktail-napkin transaction, and even longer to mix a simple cocktail. Rather than have bartenders accept cash for their cash bar, this hotel chose to use a drink ticket system where they had five or six different colored tickets (depending on whether you wanted wine, domestic beer, import beer, cocktail, soda, water, etc. See my previous mention of bar staff incompetence - you can only imagine how these tickets confused and slowed them down, and and annoyed our guests. When the bars closed down, some guests were left with worthless tickets that they'd overpaid for in the first place. Ridiculous! The banquet manager should be ashamed of this perfromance connected with the Hyatt brand. read more

Ok so basically we went there with the promises of a HOT hot tub and free breakfast and and good service. We got none of those things! The hot tub was the same temp as the pool and when we asked for it to be fixed they just ignored us! The service was bad the guy on the first day sounded sarcastic and rude. The guy the next day was OK. We also payed for a breakfast which they told us was included but turns out it wasn't! Also the pool gave us a rash. The bath water was blue like they hadn't cleaned the chlorine out! All in all bad service no breakfast and terrible pool and luke warm tub! Also the movies here are 19 dollars within free wifi that's just terrible! Also my "clean" washcloth had large amounts of hair in it which was disgusting to find out. read more

Really impressed by the updated rooms. The bathroom and showers feel very clean and fresh. I've been traveling ever for work for the past 10 years and am happy to see the recent renovations and updates. read more

The hotel was generally nice and my I had no complaints about my room. However, the fact that they charged $10 a day for WiFi is very ghetto and ridiculous. WiFi should be considered a basic need in any civilized establishment, just like electricity and running water. read more
