Avi at Hybrid Fix is the real deal, if I could give him ten stars I would, honest and knowledgeable. My Prius's gas gauge was acting a little wonky and I ran out of gas, had it towed there, after watching YouTube videos fearing the worst, turns out it needed a reset. He also put some tape on my melting hatch latch, and took a broken piece off my bumper. He wouldn't charge me, super nice guy, honest, I tried to buy him lunch but he refused. I was visiting my daughter who had just come from a Toyota dealer with a list of $2,500 to $3,000 in repairs that they told her to do on her 2007 Prius. I turned to Yelp to find a good, honest mechanic and discovered Avi. He examined each system the dealer warned about and carefully evaluated them with us. He brought them down to the need for a water pump with belt, all installed for $315. The dealer's proposal for that alone would have been almost $900. Maybe in time a wheel bearing will be needed at around $300. I was leaving LA in two days so Avi fit in the repairs the next day while I was still there. When he replaced the water pump he made us stay with him until he was completely sure everything was working properly. Where will you find a mechanic so honest, thorough and reasonable? It is a little tricky finding the shop. There is a 76 gas station on the SE corner of South Western Ave and Exposition. The next building south of that on the East side of the street, 3790-92, contains Avi's shop (3790b). Avi has one bay in that long building that houses a fairly large tire business to the right (South) of Avi's bay, and another auto repair business occupying two bays to the left of his. Drive to the South end of the building and come in the tire store entrance and pull up to the front of Avi's bay. The Metro stop is about 150 feet from the shop so it is VERY convenient to leave your car and go to and from work or home. read more

Multiple times Avi has spared me the wrath of my Toyota dealership. Recently my Prius wouldn't start -- the dealer sent me home TWICE swearing it was different issues (battery was dead (?!?!), maybe a new computer needed to be installed?). Took it to Avi, and he touched the battery and said "These bolts are loose. I can tighten them in 10 seconds, no charge, and maybe that'll do it". That was 2 months ago. Avi is awesome!! I told him about my 2012 Prius needing to be inspected after I brought it in to Culver City Toyota. I was told by Culver City Toyota that my car's rear brake pad linings were getting too thin and needed to be addressed. They also said my tires would need to be replaced as the treading was getting worn out. But I wanted a second opinion. I brought my car over to Hybrid Fix after calling Avi -- he said he would check it out! I brought my car over and Avi inspected it for FREE! He checked all my brake pads and my tires and found that they were all actually still in good shape and that a replacement wouldn't be necessary at this point (told me the tires could still wait until the next oil change). And he didn't charge me a dime. He was SUPER friendly and knowledgeable -- taught me all about my brake pads and how to measure them. I only marked Hybrid Fix down one star because the parking situation can get very tricky -- there is very limited space in the front of the store to leave your car. Just a heads up! read more

For some reason, I did not get the great service other yelpers got. I called Hybrid Fix to make an appointment 2 days ahead for an oil change. Dropped off my car around 9:45am and was told it would be ready around 1-2pm. His lot was full, he parked my car at the 76 gas station next door. I felt that was a little weird. But if that's how he operates, oh well, what can I say? Called him at 2:30pm, my car was not worked on. They told me that it would be ready around 4:00pm. I ended up picking up my car without him touching it. I picked my car up at the 76 gas station, same spot. This is very very unprofessional!!! He even charges $20 more than my mechanic on the Westside. I am very upset and disappointed that Hybrid Fix wasted me a whole day. Even Hybrid Fix is very close to my house, he will not get my business. For someone that unprofessional, I really can't trust him with my car. read more

Best service I've ever had at a shop. Avi figured out what the exact problem was within like 10 minutes and I picked my car back up the SAME DAY! He could have upsold me on all these things I thought were wrong with the car, but he didn't. He explained every part of the process to me-- so well, in fact, that I, as automotive-ly challenged as I am, could explain to my partner exactly what had been wrong and how he fixed it. Went to Culver Toyota for my 5k mile service and to get a quote for replacing the headlight assembly on my 2015 Prius. Quote came back at $600+ and to add insult to injury, they told me my "hybrid battery fan" was dirty and needed to be replaced. Avi explained (and then physically showed me) that the fan is protected by a screen, much like a dryer machine lint catch, and all you need to do is clean the screen, the fan doesn't need to be replaced! He then replaced the headlight assembly and cleaned the screen in 45 minutes for $395. My new favorite mechanic. read more

When my 2011 Prius was getting a Hybrid system check light and wouldn't start, he took the time to give me advice over the phone. I was unable to get out of work on time to drop the car off at his shop. Incredible. My 2010 Prius abs module failed, and I needed the car in a few days. Culver Toyota told me the parts would take a week, and the price they quoted was more than the car was worth. Hybrid Fix helped me get it done for a way more reasonable price, on a weekend, and wouldn't up sell me when I asked about other components I was thinking of having replaced. Absolutely amazing. Let me tell you I was literally desperate for some Hybrid help. I had my car at David Wilson's of Las Vegas. (Check out my review there) and they misdiagnosed my car and gave the toughest time about getting my money back. I had my car at Toyota of Culver City and boy let me tell you. They were kind and friendly but still crooks they misdiagnosed and order a piece that was going to cost me close to 1000 I talked a better offer and they accepted no issue. However I found "HYBRID FIX" because I had my car there nearly almost a month and I was feeling stuck. I searched on google for "Hybrid mechanics near me" and a sponsor add came up for HYBRID FIX. I was really hopeful about this person because I saw so many good reviews. 1) I could never reach them by phone, which was important for me because I live over 70 miles away. But given how the pandemic hit everyone, I can understand how they may have been overwhelmed. 2) I was really disappointed when I expressed my concern about the noise the engine in my prius was making, only to be told to come back when the 'check engine' light came on. I like to be proactive and keep my car maintained to avoid being stranded. So it was a little disheartening to be told to wait until my car got worse before he could do anything. On the plus side, the couple of times (pre-pandemic) I was able to reach him by phone, he was nice enough to provide helpful info over the phone and he never tried to up-sell me on services or take advantage in any way. He seemed to be honest and wasn't trying to swindle me out of $ or unnecessary service. This may seem like a no brainer or not a big deal, but as a woman, dealing with mechanics is challenging and we are not always treated fairly. read more

I know I've been doing business with Avi though at least three location changes, and I keep coming back. I have an Acura that needed a new catalytic converter. The only place to get one if you live in California is from Acura. Cost: $1,213!!! And that's just for the part without tax! So, Avi turns me on to this State program that will help with my repair cost. Plus, somehow he finds another source for my catalytic converter. I looked all over the internet, called at least 5 muffler shops, Napa Auto Parts, etc., with no luck. But, where I failed, he triumphed. I guess that's why he is the professional. Bottom line is, instead of costing me $1,300 plus dollars for the repair, I think I paid less than $30 out of pocket. Avi was also nice enough to give me a lift home in his personal vehicle after I drove mine in for repair. Avi also went out of his way to accommodate my busy work schedule. The only real downside to dealing with Avi is he is so busy helping customers, sometimes he can be hard to reach by phone. Other than that, he is great! He has a really good personality. UPDATE 2017 I used Avi two more times. He replaced the starter in my car when it died when I got to work in just one day. And, he replace another Cat Con on my car - for a very reasonable price. He has also given me some great automotive advice at no extra charge, even though he is always sure busy fixing cars for customers. He has a new location now and a new name for his shop Hybrid Fix. I'm from San Diego about 150 miles away from LA and when my Toyota Prius broke down on a trip on a late Saturday I was worried i would be stranded a few days until most shops would be back open on Monday. I called several times. No answer. They have instructions on their answering service says to text them. I did that and still no one has gotten back to me. I don't care how good they are or how good these reviews are. If you can't even answer the phone then you shouldn't have a business. If you're asking customers to text you, which is so juvenile, then you shouldn't have a business. If you can't even answer the phone at all, then you shouldn't have a business. A lot of shops have a family member or someone at least answering the phone. Extremely unprofessional and corny that you have to go thru all this just to get a response. There is no excuse for this type of treatment of a potential customer. At least some shops have the decency to even suggest another shop if they're too busy. Even though I live in Pasadena, Avi has been my one and only go-to car guy for 3 years & he is AWESOME. Why is he the best? Because he's got a great personality, he knows what he is doing, he does a great job, his prices are EXTREMELY fair, and he doesn't try to up sell you on stuff!! He doesn't make up things to try to get you to get more work done if it isn't actually necessary. I'm lucky to know about Avi & to be fortunate enough to be able to go to him whenever my Prius needs work. My car is my livelihood & so I have to be careful with who works on it. I don't trust anyone with it more than I trust him. Over the past three years I've had a number of car related issues come up, so I've seen him numerous times. Each time has been an entirely pleasant experience. Most recently I went to him with a battery issue & a problem I was having with my stereo/Bluetooth system. I bought a 2008 Prius from Subaru Santa Monica and within a week my brakes were squeaking uncontrollably. Many other mechanics told me I needed to replace the brakes and rotors to completely fix the problem, but Avi told me that the brakes were 100% safe, brand new, but likely cheap since that's what dealers do...buy the cheapest stuff. He told me to wait it out and if they were still squeaking in a month, he'd replace with Toyota brakes for a fraction of the cost others were quoting me. He also checked the car out thoroughly to verify the CarFax report, and relayed that the car was actually in great shape...no accidents. He did all of this free of charge! Locating a good mechanic is a bit of luck, finding a great automotive repair shop is a blessing. Today my Prius C wouldn't start, the AAA battery serviceman said it was my battery. AAA suggested I take it to the Toyota dealership; at first (very reluctantly) I was going to have it towed to the Toyota dealership. However, I did not want to deal with the upselling and shadiness that often occurs at the dealership. So I crossed my fingers and found Hybrid Fix on Yelp. This is my first time here; these guys are truly great, very professional. I spoke with another Prius customer (of 3 years). He also confirmed that they are consistently reliable and trustworthy. This customer drives from Palmdale to have his car maintained at this facility.
