We were happily surprised tonight with our experience at Hyde Park Prime Steakhouse tonight! KEANU our server was absolutely delightful, I definitely recommend asking for him specifically. The warm buttery pretzel bread was great. And we paired the Tomahawk with the zesty calamari, spinach gratin, and garlic mashed potatoes and it was lights out. The butter cake texture is better than Mastros and even though no heavy cream...I'll take the ice cream and bananas foster fire presentation on top of my butter cake any day. They served cold to lil warm sides and when we requested a warm one they still served a cold one. Checks and balances are missing. We accidentally headed to the wrong location but they said it was no problem that we were a few mins late! We got a great table on the other side of the bar which had a great view of the band! It's been a while since I returned to this Hyde Park location. The ambiance is fabulous as always. The service was good -- efficient and polite. They have an extensive wine list and I really enjoyed the Cabernet Sauvignon I ordered. The wedge salad was quite good -- large enough for two and we shared. I should have asked for the dressing on the side though as it was drenched in the blue cheese. We ordered and shared the 40 day aged ribeye (26 oz) special that we shared among the two of us. The steak was extremely tender and you could taste the funkiness of the aging process (in a good way --- not over the top). However, the steak was also over-salted in a few places, which was disappointing. The side of spinach and mushrooms was pretty good. The chocolate torte was excellent! I don't know how Hyde Park doesn't have 5 star reviews on Yelp but I hope this review helps anyone making a decision on where to go for an upscale experience. I love the high street location because sitting outside is sooo amazing when the weather is nice. Nothing beats the gorgeous classy old school steak house vibe and their servers are so wonderful. Now let's get to the good part, the food. When I tell you this was one of the best steaks I've had in Columbus I mean it. This thing was cooked to perfect and the flavor was unbelievable. Every steak I have had at other places has been terrible in comparison because all I want is Hyde Park's steak. We got calamari for the appetizer and it was gone within minutes it was so good. Their bread is also some of the best bread I've ever eaten (we got extra bread it was so good). You can't go wrong with any of the sides but the mashed potatoes were amazing. As many times as I've been to HP, I've actually never tried their happy hour. We finally were able to make it! The short north location has a b pretty big bar which lots of room but it was still filling up quickly. We split the chopped salad (not on HH but my favorite), the carpaccio, and tenderloin sliders. All were great! One star off because receiving two slides for $14 kinda felt wrong. 3 would've made more sense but they were small and a super small chunk of steak so I don't think I'd order them again. He brought out a complementary birthday dessert for our daughter when it was time, in addition to the banana frost we ordered . but he also has been doing things that were so subtle, he probably didn't even realize it, that made me feel very uncomfortable. 1st, as i was checking out the Rare Spirit drinks menu, he said something like this " these are very expensive drinks, why don't you look at the ones on the other menu" and closed the rare menu then pulled the bigger menu in front of me. 2nd, After he brought my smoked old-fashioned to the table, without saying anything, he walked right off to bring things to another table, then he came back around and said to me "YOU could've taken the drink out by yourself", as a travel food blogger, based on my experience the waiter always take the drink out of the smoke box for the customer, especially for a high-end steakhouse like this. This was a first to me. ‍ 3rd, when he was making the Irish Coffee, he was rushing to put out the fire on the sugar cube by using anything he could find on the table without considering if it was sanitary or not ... seriously, what was the rush. 4th, this waiter never had a smile on his face and has been rushing the whole time he was serving us, despite we were the very first customers for that day, there was no other table when we first arrived. There were no small talks like most the high-end restaurant waiters will do. Let me preface this with the following public service announcement: "The reviewer is recovering from acute shock due to the amount of his final bill, and may or may not be homeless by the time you read this review." I ordered "The Best Espresso Martini You've Ever Had" (that's what they call it" and my wife ordered the Hibiscus Cosmopolitan. Both were very good. Was it the best I've ever had? No. Apparently, they use bottled cold brew which doesn't taste as fresh as espresso or fresh made cold brew. No biggie though. For an appetizer we ordered the Five Cheese Spinach Dip which was mostly spinach and we loved it. As an aside: how come restaurants never include enough chips or in this case crostinis with their dip? Oh well. My wife and I shared the 22oz Porterhouse, Sautéed Asparagus, and the Potatoes Gruyere Gratin. However, my man Blaze failed to mention that the entrée does not include any sides. THEY ARE EXTRA, so FYI. We also both ordered a glass of Merlot to go with our steak. Perfect pairing BTW. Everything was absolutely delightful. We recently went to Hyde Park for Happy Hour. The ambience is classic for an upscale steakhouse. Happy Hour deals are pretty sweet ($8-10 specialty cocktails) as well as discounted appetizer-type food items. Happy Hour runs from 4:30-6:00 Mon-Fri in the bar area only. We arrived right at 4:30 on a Friday and the entire bar was full by about 4:45. The only slight downside is that they don't have any draft beer. From the moment you're greeted to the minute you finish your meal (which likely means a dessert or special coffee you didn't realize you desperately needed), you are pampered by attentive, top notch waitstaff. The food is so good, you'll be full and try to figure out how you can consume more. Just remember, they do carry out, too. When a special occasion arises, this is a solid choice. But it was a middle grade Cabernet at about $18 a glass. Ordered the fried calamari, was not a fan. They tossed it in a sweet chili sauce which made it soggy. For dinner I ordered off the early nights menu. I had twin filets with the steak griffin sauce which came w/mashed potatoes and fried onions. I also ordered a Caesar salad with anchovies. Steaks ordered medium well & all were well done but we didn't send back. 4th person ordered crab cake & a lobster bisque soup. 2 glasses chardonnay & a double patron ordered. 1 extra wedge salad ordered. Restaurant kinda dark but when I got home I realized they charged me for four desserts that came WITH the restaurant week meal. Actually only 3 desserts provided WITH restaurant week & 4th person did not get a dessert. I was charged for two lobster bisque when one was ordered with the restaurant week and the other was an actual extra order. was also charged for a wedge salad and a Caesar salad when both of those came with the restaurant Week meal. I was overcharged by almost $100 and I didn't notice that until I got home and went over the bill. I do see my online bank acct shows $270.36 pending instead of $384. I hope this is because correction was caught. Overall service and food pretty good but the miscalculation of my bill left a bad taste in my mouth. It is my fault that I did not view bill before signing!! Please ensure this correction is made. Rich beef flavor, cooked perfect at medium rare temp and seasoned just enough for everyone to enjoy. The 36-Day Dry Age is where I draw the line and I was delighted to see this cut on the menu. I tasted the richness of the dry aging and the quality of the meat was a of great prime beef quality. The dry-aging allowed for a delicious char which added a beautiful complexity of flavors. The bone was present but was on the smaller side which leaves more room for the good stuff...steak! Some pieces I tossed a bit of salt on and others I didn't. I enjoyed having the option. Would order again Sides Roasted Brussels Sprouts, bacon marmalade. These Brussel Sprouts hit home. The seamless taste of honey followed by a light char and earthiness of the sprouts were impressive.
