The highlight of the night? Grace, my favorite person at the restaurant, made a grand entrance with a half-dozen roses--delivered as requested to surprise my lovely wife. Had a lovely Monday lunch at The Capital Grille. Had the mushroom and swiss wagyu burger and it checked all of my burger boxes. Skipped the wine pairing and went with the espresso martini, which was excellent. Also really enjoyed the cup of clam chowder I had. Service was great. I am familiar with the chain and have dinned in Indy, Pittsburgh, and Cincy. The Columbus location delivered on the reputation and would absolutely recommend. I enjoyed the Roasted Beet and Goat Cheese Salad w/Crushed Pistachios & Citrus Vinaigrette. Then for the main course I did the Dry Aged NY Strip 14 oz. I had my steak butterflied so it cooked more evenly to my taste. Chris did the Caesar Salad w/Grana Padano Croutons and the Kona-Crusted Dry Aged Bone-In NY Strip w/Shallot Butter. I think his came out mooing just like he ordered. We ordered Au Gratin Potatoes and Creamed Corn with Bacon for the table and split the Coconut Cream Pie. They pie was great as it was a flaky crust filled w/coconut cream and whipped cream and had just the right amount of coconut. Reminded me more of a banana cream pie. It was so good. Inside, the restaurant was dimly lit and definitely a fine dinning feel and the seating and interior decor matched. It is pricy, especially if you go apps, salads, mains, drinks, desserts, etc., but worth every penny. Plenty of parking and no need to valet. Ask for Sondra. She was the best server, ever! The Columbus area has many wonderful places to eat and if you're looking for an outstanding experience , I would heartily recommend The Capital Grille in the South University area on Olentangy. As first time visitors, my wife and I were impressed by the stylish, roomy interior that was beautiful but not over the top. From being seated at a comfortable table, through the ordering process, to a surprise dessert ending--the service was impeccable. Our waiter, Greg was one of the best ever. Friendly and courteous, he was on point with every aspect of the meal. He wandered by our area frequently and would nod or ask if we needed anything. The other servers were polite and efficient too. But our meals were obviously the highlight of the evening. My wife's Filet was seasoned and cooked perfectly. My Bone in Strip Steak with a Gorgonzola topping in a Balsamic Reduction was amazing! Truly different, it was a flavor bonanza that I'll never forget. Combined with Potatoes Au Gratin to share, the parings were delightful. After dinner cocktails made a perfect ending to the evening. If I could give The Capital Grille more than 5 stars, I would. We had a phenomenal experience celebrating our 12th wedding anniversary. The service is impeccable. Our server, TJ, was so friendly and took care of every last detail. The table was decorated and there was a hand-written card when we arrived (such a nice touch!) After our delicious meal, we received a complimentary dessert and champagne toast. The little touches make a big difference: cleaning crumbs off the tablecloth between each course; re-folding my napkin while I visited the restroom; and hot towels with lemon to cleanse our hands between appetizer and main. All the food was delicious, from the bread bowl featuring 4 (!) delicious choices, to the amuse bouche of smoked salmon and goat cheese, and the delectable steaks. My family and I went here on New Year's Day for dinner and the meal was absolutely sensational. We ordered the caviar and caramelized onion dip, the New England clam chowder, the citrus glazed salmon, the seared scallops with Maine lobster, and the coconut cream pie. And every single thing that we ate exceeded expectations. The service was prompt and the wait staff were knowledgeable about the menu and attentive throughout our entire dinner. We had been here once before and my brother in law sent me a gift certificate for the Capital Grille. As it was my anniversary, I booked a table to celebrate. I must say, from the greeting until we walked out the front door the service was impeccable. I highly recommend The Capital Grille, for your next occasion. We decided on drinks she had the cosmo and I opted for the Manhattan both good choices. My bride started with the squash soup and the reviews were excellent. She had been talking about a nice soup like this for a few days and was so happy with this version. The fresh apple that topped it was perfect. I had the roasted beet salad and it was a great way to begin our meal. The next course was roasted chicken and Parmesan risotto for my wife and the tenderloin and lobster for me. My bride couldn't stop talking about how perfect her chicken was roasted and the risotto was perfectly cooked and delicious. My steak was cooked to a perfect mid rare and the lobster was prepared to perfection. The meal was brought out by the chef and was well received. The manager came by and bought us another glass of champagne. Very kind of him. Finally without prompting, our wonderful server Adam finished our meal with a complimentary crème brûlée. It was so full of vanilla flavor and brûléed perfectly with fresh fruit. A truly amazing experience paired with even more delicious food. Everything from the aesthetic to the service was truly top notch. We tried a few different seafood apps and they were all very delicious and high quality. Each steak we ordered was perfectly cooked and really good meat. Oh my god! Nathan was our server, and while we came in underdressed he treated us so so well. Food came out quick. We got the filet minion, dry aged new york strip, lobster mac and cheese, SAMS MASHED POTATOES (They were that good!) and the bacon Brussel sprouts. Everything, from checking in, to coat check, to Aaron-my server, to food quality, to Grant-the manager, was exceptional. You could order from the regular menu or their Thanksgiving prix fixe. I ordered the Tday meal. The Turkey was so tender. I don't normally eat gravy, but the gravy was very good. Had the crabmeat appetizer and it was very good as well. There were diners at other tables who saw mine and added it to their orders. I was surprised that it was so crowded/evidently a lot of people choose to go out on TDay. Despite the crowd, only a couple of glitches, which they handled very professionally. I will definitely return for a traditional steak dinner. Capital Grille has newly opened in the Columbus area so we decided to give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised to get a last minute reservation for a Friday evening. For cocktails, I ordered their dirty goose martini which was excellent. My wife got a wine that she liked very much as well. The service is outstanding from the hosts to the servers. Very inviting and welcoming place. Our server was super friendly and wonderful. For appetizers we shared their crab cakes with lobster. It was actually one large crab cake, which we shared, but it was delicious. We also shared their beet salad with goat cheese -- again excellent. For the main course we got their 18 oz dry aged bone-in New York strip. I thought it was extremely flavorful (my wife liked it as well but she thought it was a bit chewy) and cooked a perfect medium rare. For dessert we shared a creme brûlée--again delicious. We tried soups & salads including the luxurious French onion soup, roasted beet & goat cheese salad and the Caesar salad. For entrees a few tried the filet, the butter sea bass & bone in ribeye. We went to the Columbus Capital Grille to celebrate some good news. We had both gone previously for lunch and had a terrific meal. However, this time the food and service was disappointing. Our steaks (filets) were dry. We were surprised at the charge for one of our cocktails ($31 for a Monkey 47 gin martini). As the restaurant filled, our service became very slow. All this could be excused a lower tier restaurant, but with premium prices come higher expectations. read more

I was very happy to finally to The Capital Grille in Columbus for my long belated birthday dinner. My friend got the Lobster and Sondra helped get it off the tail. I had the Wedge Salad with Blue Cheese dressing and large bacon bits, shared the Au Gratin potatoes that was delicious, and the Dry Aged New York Strip Steak with Peppercorns on top and a special sauce that hit out of the park. The birthday dessert was decadent. Tania was very sweet, very knowledgeable about the Dry Aged Steaks and everything Top notch while she took great care of my friend and I along with Sondra. Stopped in with my wife and Mom for a late lunch/early dinner on Tuesday. This TCG opened recently, this was our first visit. It is a little closer than driving to Lyndhurst. We sat in the lounge area, Kiarra was our bartender/server. Overall we had a great visit though there were a couple of SNAFUS. We opened with adult beverages. We really enjoyed the house chips that appeared for us. The Double Oaked Manhattan and Blackberry Sidecars were perfectly made and delicious! For openers, I ordered a half dozen oysters and my Mom a cup of their Lobster Bisque. Both extremely tasty! My wife and I ordered the Wagyu & Wine specials and Mom the Lobster Salad. Our meals arrived relatively quickly, That is when the SNAFUS appeared. My wife needed to customize her order due to her preferences and somewhere along the line, her burger was not prepared as requested and chip dip & caviar appeared to accompany her chips as well. Did not realize there would be an additional charge or we would have sent it back as my wife does not like caviar. We did not asked them to remake the burger as we were able to make it work. We'll chalk it up to the their relatively recent opening. We appreciated the manager on duty stopping by to see how all was going but disappointed that Joffrey, Managing Partner, walked by twice without stopping. The Capital Grille was amazing. The service was highly attentive and extremely friendly. Our waiter even gave us his card to reserve with him next time. The bread basket blew my mind. Look how huge! I love when you receive a variety of bread so this was awesome. We had the calamari and prosciutto wrapped mozzarella. Both were so delicious! I then had a Caesar salad, which was good, pretty on brand for a steakhouse. Caesar. I had the New York strip, which was seasoned perfectly. All their steaks had a really nice seasoning on them as well as crisp on the outside. We only ordered glasses of wine, which were good so I can't speak on the drinks. They gave us a little free dessert plates for the two birthdays we were celebrating which was super cute and very nice of them. The restaurant itself is pretty big. There's a whole bar and other section of the restaurant and I definitely would come back if they had a happy hour. I want to come also for lunch as most steak houses don't do lunches. A good friend and I were looking for a subtly elegant setting for a long-overdue catchup. That meant no TVs hanging from the walls/ceiling, no rowdy raucous crowds, maturity preferred. We decided to try out the Capital Grille, new to both of us, and a bit unexpectedly located in Lenox Mall adjoining the Ohio State campus (easy parking, not a lot of charm). They have done a fantastic job of making over the old Champs Bar, which had its own advantages back in the day if you were looking for a sports bar experience, but would definitely not have been our choice of setting. We came during their Happy Hour, which they call Capital Hours: 3-6pm M-F. We both could not have been more pleased with the ambiance, quality of food/drink, reasonable price, and outstanding service -- and yes we will definitely be back very soon for another happy hour. The Capital Hours menu offers a very nice selection of wines by the glass at $8, a fun cocktail selection at $10 each, and appetizers ranging from $8 (Caesar salad bites, Oysters Casino) to $16 (sliced kona crusted NY Strip steak) and a range of other choices in between. My friend ordered a glass of California pinot noir and I had an Old Fashioned (Maker's Mark) which was delicious and beautifully presented in a classic lowball glass. We decided to order the parmesan truffle fries from the app menu -- at $11 it was a very generous size order that was deliciously distinctive, seasoned with freshly grated Parmesan cheese and white truffle oil. AND along with our drink order we were served a complimentary basket of assorted breads that were so good! Included in the bread selection was lightly toasted raisin pumpernickel...OMG, out of this world delicious! I grew up in LA where my parents would make a monthly trek to the Diamond Bakery in the Fairfax District to get a loaf of unsliced raisin pumpernickel bread, which was a such a treat that for years after I grew up and left LA, whenever I happened to be back in town I would stop by the bakery to get a half loaf that I could fit into my carry-on to take back home with me. Unfortunately the Diamond Bakery closed down a number of years ago and I thought my hope of finding a decent version of raisin pumpernickel was never to be realized. Well, I have now found a worthy successor, right here in Columbus. That brings me to our server, Juan, who was SUCH A GREAT WAITER. He treated us so well, never rushing us, answering all our questions, interested in providing us the very best in service, and he was just a truly nice gentleman in every respect. When I told him my story about the raisin pumpernickel bread, he brought me a bag with two loaves to take home, gratis. WOW, talk about a class act. So you can see why I will be bringing more friends here. It's got everything you could want for happy hour in a peaceful and elegant setting where easy conversation mixes with great service, drinks and apps.
