Well, this is embarrassing. I gave this business a 5 star review based largely on their reassuring diagnosis of my insect problem (they said I didn't have termites), the pleasant demeanor of the employee I dealt with, and the fact that they didn't try to charge me for services I didn't need. Turns out, they were wrong. I had a severe infestation of drywood termites. The man from Hydrex who examined the mysterious piles of pellets that kept appearing in a corner of my kitchen should have been able to recognize that they were not created by regular ants, as he claimed. Termite droppings have a distinctive hexagonal shape and are easy to identify, so there was no excuse for this. After calling Hydrex out in early 2013, and being assured that I didn't have termites, I tried unsuccessfully for months to eradicate the "ants." But the piles of pellets kept appearing. Then, in the spring of 2014, I started remodeling my kitchen. When the drywall came off, it revealed extensive termite damage to the 2x4 framing inside the wall near the problem area. The pellets (which, if you haven't guessed by now, were termite poop) were being "kicked out" by the termites as they fed. I had to have the house tented and fumigated, and many of the wall studs had to be replaced. So, as much as I would like to award this company stars for being nice, I can't overlook the fact that they failed in their primary objective, which was to detect and exterminate pests. read more

This is my first and maybe last non-food review, but I feel a compelling duty to warn my fellow yelpers that this place just plain sucks. One exception...Jason, an inspector is timely, nice and professional, but the rest of them who run the front office are rude beyond imagination. Gave me 12 hours notice before my place was fumugated abd blamed me for the mishap of scheduling. Put me on hold 5 times and never once aplogized, thanked me for accomodating their scheduling mishap and to top it off they dont even say good by before they hang the phone up on you. I have more to say but its just not worth my time. Just know that thus a a place to avoid at all costs. read more

My experience has been very poor just like their service! I have called several times and never get a return call about my problem. My 1st call I got the owner Joe and asked him if they go into the attic and close holes to prevent them from returning he said yes they do and if wood work was needed it was a extra cost. The guy Dan showed up and only stuck his head thru the opening and placed traps and placed bait outside and was done. I explained that's not what I ordered and he was not concerned at all and I called to speak with owner again and he was short with me and never called me back like he said. If you need a pest inspection done for a home sale, these guys are great. They were on time, thorough, and honest. They walked me through all the necessary repairs and explained how they would be done. Other pest companies wanted to rip up our bathroom and pull the stucco off the house to fix a small area of dry rot. I'm trying to sell my house, not loose my entire savings in it! Hydrex can repair and reinforce the problem at almost 80% of the other guys estimate! Unlike previous reviews I didn't have any problem with the office staff. The old tenants to my new apartment left bed bugs in my new room. They called this company, but they scheduled it so that the last spray would be a week after my old apartment's lease ends. I would have been homeless for a week and have no place to put my stuff. I got the old tenants to give me the number to this company. I didn't expect it would change anything, but I just wanted to give it a shot. Thanks to Valerie, she save my butt and more. Not only was she able to reschedule the spraying on the day I had to move out, but she was able to answer all my questions about how the spraying would work and what to expect. She was professional, understanding, and overall a very friendly person to speak with. I asked the old tenants how the people spraying were and they all gave me positive comments. We use Hydrex Pest mostly for inspections every time we have a buyer interested in a house. We want to know where all of the dry rot problems are and Hydrex is our go-to pest company for inspections. They recently raised their prices from $95 to $115. I asked about it because we use them so often and was told that they haven't increased their prices in 12 years. They continue to be the most affordable so we keep using them. At most inspections, Joe himself comes out to the property to take a look. They email you their findings within a few days which is really helpful for our home buyers, as it's important to have all of the information when making a big purchase. You can bring a check at the time of inspection or have it billed through escrow. read more

I called for a quote and the woman who answered the phone was very rude. I asked her for a quote to get rid of rats and other insects, including spiders, roaches and mice, in our home. She then laughed at me on the phone. I asked her what was funny, and she said "Well, that's just quite the list you have there. That's a lot of insects." Ummm.....aren't you a pest control company? What the heck?? Needless to say, she did not make a very good first impression, nor was she very informative or helpful on the phone. With so many other pest control companies out there, Hydrex shouldn't be treating their customers like this. I'll be taking my business elsewhere, thank you very much. read more

The day of the inspection, I had a small scheduling snafu, which was utterly my fault, but the inspector was entirely kind and forgiving about it all. Hydrex was contracted to perform dry rot repairs on the wooden exterior of the house I just purchased in North Sacramento. For about $2300 I estimate less than $1000 of actual work was completed! I called the company to give them a chance to complete the repairs. Terrible work. They refused to repair wood shutters and instead attached cheap vinyl shutters of the wrong size. Avoid the dry rot service. Hire a carpenter or general contractor instead. read more

I found Hydrex on Yelp and called them based on the reviews and rating. They did not disappoint. Paul came out and did a very thorough complimentary inspection of my attic. Gave me recommendations on how those pesky critters were getting in there and what they can do to help. He was not trying to sell me on any of their services. He gave me an honest and very, very reasonable quote and told me t give them a call should I decide on their services. I signed up right there! Their quote was less than half of what I paid a pest control company last year--and I still had pests! I signed up for the bi-monthly pest control cleanup/control. That, too, was a reasonable price. I need to add, that an office manager cannot talk to clients the way this office staff does. DO NOT USE! THEY WILL NOT STAND BY THEIR WORK. We purchased a home in April. The sellers provided a pest inspection report performed and prepared by Hydrex which stated there was NO active termite infestation. We purchased the home and a month after moving in started noticing holes in the wall and debris on the floor. We had three other pest companies come out to inspect and all said there was active drywood termite infestation. We then called Hydrex and asked them to come out to inspect and treat. They came out and confirmed the active infestation but refused to stand by their work and said they would not treat it at no charge, but would give us a discounted rate. This was unacceptable to us, so we called and then also wrote a letter to the owner providing all the details and the now four reports that showed they had missed the infestation and we received no response. We filed a claim in small claims court, but then we were unable to make the date due to a family illness. So unfortunately, as is the case far too often, the bad guy gets off scot-free. But at least there is yelp so that others can make educated decisions! read more
