Pretty sure all the 5 star reviews were bribed or something because every single time I come to this place I feel dismissed about my needs by the rudest doctor ever. This isn't a race thing either because I'm Korean and she still treats me like crap. There was this one time my mom told her I was harming myself and instead of addressing both of our concerns about that, she just said "well yeah she's stressed so that's where she'll turn to- she's a teenager so it makes sense." I can write a whole essay about this place with similar stories. Coming here fills me with dread and fear of getting dismissed about my pain again. I have to come here again and again because she's my primary care physician I guess?? The office was dirty, they put me in a child room when I'm an adult, and then they refused to refill a cold sore prescription even though that I had an emergency with a cold sore and she had previously given me colds for medication. Cold sores are something that never change or go away and there would be no reason to have to revisit a doctor. I didn't even have a cold when she prescribed it. Very disappointed with my recent conversation with the office management team. When I asked them to refill it and I asked why they would not. They just said it's because of their policy, when I asked why that is the policy they refused to give an actual reason as to why that policy exists. read more

I've been to several pediatircians, but there is no doctor who checks a child's condition and immunizations as meticulously as Dr. Kim. Also, tank you so much for calling and making a appt right away when the child was sick. However, there were a lot of patients, so there was a little waiting time,but it was worth it. The worst Doctor! She does not care about her patients well being. She stopped refilling my prescription but didn't notify me. I found out through the pharmacy. Dr.Kim has been my primary care physician for about 5 years now. I was referred to her by a coworker of mine. I am very picky when it comes to finding a doctor, and she went above and beyond my expectation. Dr.Kim is very knowledgeable in her field and I feel comfortable trusting her with all of my healthcare needs. The only reason why I'm leaving one star is because Dr. Kim was trying her best to listen and take care of my needs. There is however a language barrier starting from when you first make contact with the office. " the initial appointment". The receptionist ( one in particular ) is extremely rude and unprofessional. It's sad that she doesn't hire better staff ... it's hurting her practice. Good Patient interaction with the front office is extremely important and if your staff can't communicate and is unapologetic about their bad attitude it's going to have an effect on Dr. Kim's retention. Dr. Kim has been my doctor for 10+ years. She is a truly respectable doctor and very well known in the Asian community. Her office staff are always very kind and friendly. I have been taking my kids to Dr. Kim since birth.. and I like her. She is understanding and not pushy which is something I value in a doctor for my children. I recommend her to family and friends.. because she has been good to us overall and I have no intention of switching doctors anytime soon. I'm surprised at some of these other reviews about her, but NOT surprised I'm not the only one that thinks the front nurses need attitude adjustments. There is a bilingual staff who can speak Korean language so that my wife has no problem to make a reservation. Dr. Hye Sun Kim can consult with my wife in Korean language. This place is amazing. Great customer service from the front desk to the medical staff who were most friendly. Everyone smiles and seems to be happy, I think it all stems from the top. I get the sense that everyone likes working there, which makes a big difference as far as customer service is concerned. The doctor also has great bedside mannerisms and she is easy and pleasant to deal with. They put you at ease and make you feel welcome. Dr Hye Sun Kim was exceptionally understanding, considerate, knowledgeable and flexible. She made the point to let me know she'd always be available when needed, showing compassion for her patients, and passion for her craft. I come from a medical family, and found her to be at the top of her game. I would certainly recommend her to anyone. . I'd best describe this team as consummate professionals with heart. There is a complete lack of communication here, my insurance picked this doctor for me and I was only given a name and phone number. I called them up and they gave me directions across town, which was nowhere near their office and I could barely understand a word they said over the phone. I ended up going back home, looked up the doctor's office and finally got actual directions. I'm sure this doctor works well with children, but there's a huge language barrier that only makes the situation more frustrating. Some of the staff is fine, but there are several I simply can't understand, including the doctor. It seems like this doctor is so used to dealing with children that it became a habit to treat all patients as if they're children, with no remote signs of dignity. Weeks went by, I had car troubles and missed some of my appointments which only made going to this doctor unbearable. She was frustrated to the point every conversation became condescending and I decided this wasn't the doctor for me. I could barely understand a single word the doctor said, then after I kept getting asked the same questions for 20 minutes, I just gave up and let her do all the talking so I could leave. Since I switched doctors I've had no trouble at all, my new doctor seems to actually care about me and treats me respectfully. The only nice things I can say is that their office is clean and appears to be welcoming for children. She uses all the available technology but gives you the old-school, personal, undivided attention that you want from the physician you're trusting your health with. I moved from LA and needed a local doctor in OC and I'm so happy I ended up finding Dr. Kim. She's very knowledgeable and professional and always answers any questions I have. I am very surprised to read the reviews about Dr. Kim and her staff. My experience has been excellent. I am a grandmother and live in Huntington Beach so it's a bit of a drive but I completely understand why my son chose this doctor. She is kind, and takes her time to understand your concerns and set you at ease. I have been raising children for 37 years and have been through a few pediatricians. My husband insisted our children have Hoag doctors because that is our closest hospital. I hope she will see my grand daughters through their youth. Doctor Kim has been my family physician since 2009. She and her staff have been very kind and attentive to my condition. I suffer from kidney disease that requires frequent visits for blood and urine tests, and the results are being followed up by the staff promptly. Since we have HMO, in order to see a specialist, an authorization is needed from the insurance company, which they take care of fast. I cannot believe they are getting such a bad review. read more

Horrible!! I've had to deal with them for the past couple of weeks. First time that I went the doctor wouldn't want to give me a referral for tests, because she did not think that there was something wrong with me. Turns out I was right. I've only seen her once since my problems started and everything else was over the phone, very quick and not specific as to what is wrong with me. She wanted me to wait to see if my condition "magically" gets better before seeing a specialist (so I had to insists to see one). To add to that, she did not even tell me what I should do in the meantime to improve my conditions, I had to reach out elsewhere for opinion's. Her office staff is very rude!! I was asked multiple times to call at a certain time to review my tests with the doctor, but when I called they said she was busy. I even got a "We have other patients too". I came back from this office just now and let me tell you, I did not have a very pleasant experience. When I checked in, the lady in the front was ill-mannered and speaking to me as if I knew where everything was. When I asked for the restroom, she simply just responded, "it's outside". After two more times of asking where exactly, so I know where to go, the other lady that schedules patients gave me directions. I finally saw the doctor and after talking, I decided maybe it's best to also get a blood test. She leaves and her assistant comes in and tells me I need to call MY OWN INSURANCE TO SEE IF I'M COVERED. like excuse me? Isn't that the job of the person working in the front? I have experience working in a doctor's office and we did all that work for the patient, not the other way around. Anyway, once I decided to leave, they almost charged me double for my office-visit copay however, they did catch it shorty after. One more thing was the communication, I was not able to understand them quite well and when I asked questions, they would give me a completely different answer. The way this office is being run needs to change. If I could, I would not give any stars. But the one star I give goes to the doctor, because she seemed a little helpful but then again, I only spent a short amount of time with her, probably a total of 10-15 minutes or so. read more

Do not go there! They were kind when they just opened,but not any more.The worst thing is they know that they are the only one Korean pediatric in IRVINE,so most Korean moms go there...so this made them this wrong... They can't speak good English,so do not go there if you are native speaker... My kids covered under Cal-Optima which is for low income family kids...but this system for new year went wrong,so my kids are out of the list.. But we updated it but Kim's staff didn't want to help us,they even kick my sick kid out of their office. And we talked provider,and they asked us thatKim's office can call them to get a answer...but Kim's staff didn't want to do it,and ask us to call provider to prove that Kim is still my kids doctor... Come on,we can only have a doctor which is Kim,so we can't go to any other doctors... Anyway,we asked staff to talk to Kim,but they put us on hold and hang up on us... DO NOT GO THERE!!! And if you are a pediatrician (doesn't need to be a pediatrician...) ,please come to IRVINE to open your office...you will have have lots of customers...one more,if you are Korean American Pediatrician,you will have more customers!!! Dr. Hyesun Kim's whole office is an absolute ineffective, poorly trained mess! After arriving on time for my first visit, I was told to take a seat. I said, 'don't I need to fill out any paperwork?' and the receptionist said, 'oh yeah' before unceremoniously handing me a clipboard. I wish that I would have taken that as a red flag that every single thing in that office is ineffectual and poor. Poor manner (my son kept having to ask me what the Dr's assistant asked him to do because she literally whispered.) The Dr. repeatedly asked me the same questions, such as when the last date of my son's immunizations were, even though I had handed her the paperwork that had the date typed on it. (The receptionist also asked me what my first and last name was after I had handed her back four pages of paperwork, on which my name appeared countless times.) I had to educate the Dr. on the tic disorder my son has. She seriously didn't know the first thing about tic disorders even though tics are quite common in children! The straw that broke the camel's back, however, came in the futile effort of getting my son's yearly exam and jabs done. After wrangling a discussion with the really inept Dr. and Dr's assistant, they first claimed that my insurance covered neither exam or vaccines. I said they did and they could call my insurance company to verify. Then the office manager was brought in, at which point (2 hours in and NOTHING done yet) the office manager said that the vaccines were covered but not the rest of the exam. This was blatantly untrue and I called my insurance company then and there to confirm that it is in fact covered. By that point, however, I just wanted to leave with what I could get done without further arguing (a referral and the inoculations) and NEVER come back to this Dr. again. I cannot stress enough how poor this visit was, from beginning to end. Joanna Kim, Lydia Kim, Hyelin yoo and Hyesun Kim comprise THE WORST, most ineffectual, poorly managed and inept doctors office I have ever had the misfortune of visiting. I went home and immediately called my insurance company to verify again that what I wanted was covered (it is) and to change my doctor! read more

I literally made this account just to review this place. Dr. Kim is so condescending and indifferent to her patients, it's ridiculous. I don't expect doctors, especially ones I don't know personally, to be extremely friendly and understanding, and I get that they're busy and just doing their jobs. But the people here are blatantly apathetic and snappy. As a patient, not a professional, it is infuriating to watch a doctor look irritated with my concern for whatever condition I have at the time and be so quick to send me out of her office. They have terrible, dismissive attitudes. My daughter had a hard time walking properly because the peroneal tendons on her ankle were hurting due to a recent accident, so I called the front desk. I talked in the phone in Korean, it being my first language, and the lady put me on hold immediately (in Korean) without asking what I was calling for. I didn't have time to say anything at all. Initially I was patient enough to wait but she didn't get back to me even after a while so I hung up and called again. I ended up calling them many times because the same person answered the phone, put me on hold, and never responded. I had absolutely no reassurance that she would get back to me. When I called again and spoke assertively in English, she waited for me to talk and didn't put me on hold immediately. I told her about how I had been put on hold multiple times when I talked to her in Korean and she asked me, "So, what do you want to say. I'm supposed to be putting you on hold right now, but I'm not. We're busy right now." I was so pissed off at this point I said a few angry words and hung up. They are so inconsiderate and unwilling to empathize. She could have been a bit more polite and welcoming. You really can't expect any better, I realize.
