You finally arrive in Hana, hungry and road-weary. There are a few restaurants and a couple of food trucks, but keep driving just a bit longer. Pull into the ample parking lot, grab your wallet and hungry belly, and get your buns to I Lava Tacos!! First, we dove into the chips and guac. Chips MADE ON SITE, warm and perfectly crisp and the guacamole cold and delish. We grabbed a plate of street tacos, flavorful and generously served. Carne asada, carnitas, chicken... sumptuous Maui onions and two sauces, oh yes! We were hungry enough that we ordered a burrito we couldn't even dig into, but it was perfect on the way home after an afternoon of swimming at Red Sand. Carnitas Burrito (5/5): This pulled pork was not just delicious but it was crispy and delicious. Their burritos really hit the spot after a long day of hiking. As someone who loves Mexican food, this is one of my favorite Mexican places on the island. TIP** whatever you get at this taco stand you have to get the red sauce to pair with your meal. It enhances all of the flavors in your burrito or tacos. Service (4/5): There were only two trucks open therefore it took over 30 minutes to order and get my food. There is limited seating around the food truck as well. Parking (5/5): There is a parking lot for the food trucks. You will easily find a parking spot here. TIP** Venmo or Cash only. I highly recommend bringing extra cash and downloading your locations on the road to Hana ahead of time because there is limited reception so you might not be able to pull up venmo or other apps. read more

Four days in Hana, three visits to lava tacos! As an LA native and a family of Mexican food connoisseur's I cannot recommend the culinary wizardry of this incredible chef and his staff more. Everything from the tortillas, to the perfection of his carnitas, carne asada and chicken....perfection. Even a simple bean and cheese burrito for our daughter was top three of all time. The fish tacos were the best on the island and his hot sauces made from scratch are crave worthy. I even bought a hat so I could rock it at home for the memories and a strike up conversation so I could recommend it to even more people. Mahalo guys. This spot is solid gold. I had ordered a burrito and one taco for my girlfriend and she immediately made me turn the car back around to get more food. I had read a couple of hater reviews before going, but learned quickly those people are either the competition trying to knock them down a peg or straight up dummies. The Carnitas burrito, Carnitas quesadilla, and Chicken Tings tacos were very on point. I live in LA and go to all the best spots and this place holds up nicely. Really unexpectedly good food. Only place open on Christmas Day and we were so hungry by the time we rolled into Hana. Also, a little broke. We had $8 cash in our pockets so we ordered 2 tacos. The dude cooking served the people in front of us, called our names & said he was feeling the holiday spirit and we're his last customers for the day so he made us a big, beautiful burrito & split it for us then proceeded to sing about his Christmas green-been casserole to the beat of a Roger Daltrey song as he cleaned up for the day. 5 stars because the food was fantastic and the dude is awesome. Best Mexican food on Maui HANDS DOWN! We came to Hāna for a weekend staycation and had the pleasure of eating at Justice and Michael's food truck. Do yourself a favor and stop here for a delicious, authentic meal (plus their hot sauces are soooo yummy). My dad got the carnitas burrito, boyfriend got the carne asada burrito and the beans, rice and cheese burrito with guacamole for me! We also got a side of chips and guacamole. Chips were freshly made and still hot when we got them. All of our food was amazing and we're thinking of stopping by again tomorrow before we head back home. My only complaint is that they don't have a location in Central Maui closer to where we live. We'd be there all the time! read more

Plus the burrito itself was really rich, tender, and flaky. mmmm mmmm good. My one criticism was the abundant chopped onion was really strong and hard to eat. We got a couple of pretty good street tacos at this food truck. We have family who have lived on the island for 45 years and we were in Maui visiting them. We showed up to get some tacos towards the end of the day (probably around 6:30, although their truck said they were open until 8.) We were told they were out of almost everything-- rice, beans, tortillas. The only thing he could offer us was some steak tacos and guac and chips. Interestingly enough, a group of local (non Haole) people showed up and were extended the full menu; in fact, we overheard the owner saying he would have to throw out or take home extra food. Hands down the best Mexican food in Maui. I had the carnitas burrito. My daughter had the vegetarian burrito. Her boyfriend had a Carne Asada burrito. We also had chips with guacamole. All of our food was amazing. The chips were fresh and hot. My carnitas were how it should be, more meat than fat . If you're in Hana you gotta go check it out. My girlfriend and I were blown away by how excellent this little food truck is. If you find yourself in Hāna don't go anywhere else because the best Mexican food on island is right here. We had chicken tinga and carne asad quesadillas with chips and salsa and it was excellente . Everything was cooked fresh and the homemade salsas and guacamole were dope.
