Negligent, irresponsible, unprofessional and passive. I don't think I've ever had to write such a bad review. We were customers for 12+ years after buying our HVAC unit from I.M. air conditioning. They provided our yearly "maintenance" 1-2 times per year. When I decided on whim to have a different company come do the maintenance, turns out that our unit has never been opened or checked on the inside. The inside of our unit was not just dirty and full of debris, but it had biological growth with spores likely along the lines of mildew and/or mold and a crack along the ducting wall pulling outside air in. Who knows how long we have been breathing this in as a family. I called I.M. Air and asked to speak with the owner. I was told they weren't around and I could leave a message but it was obvious the woman on the phone was not assuring me a call back. I explained everything to her and sure enough she confirmed "we don't open the unit, we just clean the outside". Really? What good is that? She said that what I was referring to is a "deep cleaning" and that if we wanted that we would have had to request that service. I told her that we would have expected them, as our service providers, to let us know if we needed a deep cleaning. Just like when you take your car for an oil change, a good car maintenance company will tell you if your tire treads are low or if your break pads are wearing thin. That's the whole point of maintenance. To check if anything needs to be maintenanced! There really is no excuse, but truly, it couldn't be more obvious how little they care. The owner, of course, never called me back. At this point I don't want them to call me unless they plan on paying our $1839 bill for cleaning a unit they neglected or giving us back the money we paid them over the course of 12 years. DO NOT use this company unless you want to waste your money and potentially have to replace your unit every few years thanks to bad maintenance (which perhaps is precisely their intention). read more

The biggest mistake I have ever made in my life for hiring this company. The man never measured the space for the gigantic unit which was placed blocking beyond part of my walkway. The workers disrespectfully wore dirty shoes to my carpeted upstairs. They did not clean up drywall crumbs after installing the thermostat. They did not help programming it. The owner man is manipulative and dishonest. We hired this company because one of the neighbors recommended him but found out the recommendation was based on both men came from the same country. I had to point out condensation pipe was broke and leaking and water pool in my garage ground. Office lady only mentioned will take all day which I planned for. She never mentioned it was a 2 days process. Workers also damaged my cement and never repaired it. The owner salesman never even came to check post job. I am extremely unsatisfied. Workers in charge called this man 3 times to address my concerns but I was told the owner/salesman never responded to him. Do not work with this company. Stay away! read more

My AC unit was coming up for replacement and after extensive searching and reading through many reviews, I decided to go with IM Air and I am so glad I did. I selected a Hydro-Air system that incorporates my hot water boiler to my system since my previous system had already been set up that way. To be honest, I had called several other companies and a couple had said they didn't offer that service/ unit and one of them flat out walked out and refused to touch it. The day of installation came and they made sure that before they left, the unit was in perfect working order. They even came a month after to check that everything was ok. I have used IM Air for over fifteen years. They maintained the air conditioner in our rental house, as well as our residence. When we had to replace the unit in our rental, we naturally called them. They replaced the air conditioner and continued to maintain it. It wasn't until we were selling our rental house that we realized IM Air had never taken a permit out to install the new air conditioning unit. Needless to say, it was on us to make it right. With this in mind, we decided to check on the air conditioner that they installed in our residence 5 years ago. Sure enough, they had not taken out a permit. I called Isaac, the owner, and he accused us of telling him not to get a permit! Our entire house is permitted for everything done; this was ridiculous! After accusing myself and my husband for his negligence, I told him I wanted the permit! He has since not returned one phone call, not answered the letter my husband sent to him; and cancelled our maintenance service agreement without our knowledge. This is how Isaac treats his long-term customers. All I can say is that if everything is going well (and you don't want a permit), he's happy to have you as a customer. But when things do not go well, he is rude, unprofessional and accusatory. There are plenty of other companies out there. Why choose his! read more

BOTTOM LINE: I WAS GROSSLY OVERCHARGED. When I had a problem with my AC condenser tripping its breaker, I got a referral from a friend to call I M Air Conditioning, as he had had a good experience with them. Rusty and an associate arrived on a Sunday (it was during a heatwave), and after about 15 minutes of investigation, his diagnosis was that the 30 amp breaker was failing and needed replacement with breaker of higher amperage (50 amps) to accommodate the needs of the unit. Unfortunately, Rusty did not have the necessary replacement breaker and so had to return the next day, when he spent about 30 minutes replacing the breaker and testing the unit. For this I was charged $450. Only after a little consideration did I realize it seemed like a rather exorbitant fee. I consulted with a friend of mine who works with contractors regularly, and he agreed. I checked with an electrician who has done work for me, and he said he would charge about $200 for the service. Finally, I called and spoke with Isaac, the owner of the company, who simply would not budge. He insisted this was not only a reasonable but a low fee, and that Rusty had to come to my house twice to fix the problem (how is it that I should pay more because the technician doesn't have the required part on hand?). He also said that Rusty had installed a capacitor in the condenser unit, but there was no such indication on the service order, nor was it mentioned by Rusty at the time. I am convinced that I could have spent half as much money to have this problem fixed, and that Isaac, once he had my money, wasn't willing to even consider my concerns or work with me on the price; even if I had paid I M a service call fee of $120 and hired my electrician to do the work, I'd have spent more than $100 less. Isaac did mention that they would come by and do a maintenance service visit in six months at no charge. Well, I may take them up on that, but only because I've already paid for it! I certainly won't be hiring them in the future otherwise or referring them to any friends. read more

I was referred to IM Air Conditioning by a friend who'd previously had a good experience with them. One of my units had stopped cooling, and I was told that my compressor was not working due to a bad 60-5 capacitor. Rodrigo installed the capacitor, and also installed a kick start. I was charged $845.00. As it happened, a few other friends had run capacitors installed, with the same company, and paid between $325-425. I was charged $500 to install the hard start - which seems really unreasonable. Rodrigo was at my house for about an hour - about the same as my friends' service appointments. I feel I was overcharged. I cannot recommend. read more

We spoke with several solid companies but went with IM Air for several reasons and it could not have gone any smoother. For 5 days their crew worked constantly throughout our entire house but especially in the attic where all the new ducting had to go plus installing the furnace. They built a custom platform on our roof for the air conditioning unit (there were no good locations available on the ground) that is in a perfect spot- you cannot see it from the street and you cannot hear it from anywhere, very well thought out. They were clean, fast, reliable, polite and professional. We have used both the heat and AC countless times over the past 2 years and consider it the single best investment (by far) we've made in our home. read more

I.M. Air made a service call as my furnace was not heating. I realize that they can't carry every part in their truck, but the part that was needed was the most likely cause of the problem that I described on the phone. Of course, they didn't have the part (even though there is a universal part that fits many furnaces, so it's not a specialty item) so they had to make a second trip. The quote reflected two trips, even though they "claimed" the first call would be credited to the repair cost. I bought the part the same day and had them come back to finish the installation, after their owner stated that the part was under warranty (I bought the furnace from I.M. Air). He promised that they would bring a replacement part and give to me for the next time (it's the weak point in this furnace and fails often). Of course, the technician knew nothing about that and did not have the part. Well, it's now 4 months later and after repeated reminders and promises by the owner, I have not received the promised part. I realize it's less than a $20 item, but I believe that if a business makes a promise, it should keep it. My second mistake was in not holding payment for the service until the part was received; that is, after my mistake in calling I.M. Air in the first place. read more

We redid our entire system this year - two heaters and air conditioners, most of the ducting upstairs, and thermostats. We got five estimates and I made sure to spend some time with each of the contractors to get a sense for whether I could trust them, work through issues with them (as something always come up) and gauge their level of technical competence. Igal who I think is the owner of I.M. came recommended by two friends who used his company for installation (and one of them also for service). Unlike most of the other contractors who simply wanted to swap out the old units and put in new ones (so in and out in one day), Igal wanted to have a lot of discussion about how we use the HVAC, what mattered to us most, etc. He came up with a plan to relocate one of the furnaces - as the space where both furnaces were located was too crowded to put in new high efficiency furnaces and good sized plenums. He also designed a new return as the old one was a bottleneck to airflow. As a result, I believe he got a much more efficient and quieter system than we would have had if he had simply swapped out the equipment, as most of the other contractors planned to do. And even with the additional work of moving the furnace, the cost was at the low end of the five estimates we got. I was concerned about overruns but Igal honored the quote even as a few things came up during the installation. His crew spent almost four full days on this and did a very nice and clean job. They cleaned up every day. They patiently answered all questions even while I interrupted their work. I was very specific about the thermostats I wanted (they had not used them on a previous job) and they worked with me on installing them. Overall- very satisfied with the system, and have no reservations recommending Igal. read more

I'm not one who normally writes reviews, but with the outstanding service we had again today (On one of the hottest days of the year!) I felt it was long overdo! We have been using I M Air Conditioning now for about 12 years and they have always done a great job! We've always had the same guy (his name is Leo) come to do our yearly maintenance check-ups because he is just the best. He shows up on time, is extremely honest, professional and takes great care while doing his job. Our unit is on the roof of our house so he has to climb up and over the gutters just to get to it. Plus we have a tile roof, so he knows that he has to be very careful, while walking on them so that he doesn't break any. We've always been very happy with the job they've done, and have never had any problems. However we've never needed them in an emergency so didn't really know if they could live up to their, already outstanding reputation. That is until last night! As about 5:45 we smelled something burning and could tell it was coming from our air conditioning unit. So we turned it off and called I M Air Conditionings office thinking to ourselves, "Oh no, they'll be closed by now as it's late!" but maybe we could just leave a message, so that they could call us back in the morning . But no, not only did they answer the phone, but she was very caring and concerned for us. I told her our problem, and she said she'd make some calls and call us back. She called back in about 5 minutes saying Leo would be here between 8 and 10 this morning. Wow, that was great I said, adding, we couldn't have been happier, as we knew it was going to be a HOT day. Leo got here, found the problem, and called the office to see if they had the motor and parts he needed to fix it. Once he found out that they could get what he needed, he then worked us into his already full day schedule, coming back with the new motor and getting us back having air as soon as possible. This was all done with a smile on his face, even-thro it was 104 outside. I would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a Great, Local Air Conditioning Company! I have had two amazing experiences with this company. I rent a house on the west side of L.A. and my landlord has been using I.M. and so, as a tenant, I did too. They have repaired the air conditioning - same day service -- and, in fact, "upgraded" it to make it more efficient and forcing more cold air into the house. They found very creative ways to do this. Also, when my heating in this old house broke, they fit me in to come the same day during an unusually busy time (when Los Angeles had a cold-snap -- finally!) and, again they fixed the problem quickly and the workers were polite and professional. In addition -- and this is the icing on the cake -- the owner of the company calls me the day after the work to make sure everything is okay (his name is Igal and he loves his company and takes great pride in his work. They installed my elderly mothers AC about 5 years ago. She's been having them do the yearly maintenance ever since. Recently she had a leak in the ceiling of her living room. I sent a plumber over and he found that they did not glue the condensate pipe in one area and it came loose. Even took a picture as proof. Faulty workmanship has no limit for a warranty. My mother called them and the partner that she does not usually deal with called the plumber a liar. She left a message to speak to the partner she usually dealt with. He never returned her call. She called two more times. No response. Bottom line. They could have resolved the problem by picking up a $5 can of spray can of Kills and spraying her damaged ceiling (the plumber fixed the pipe). Instead she had to pay someone else to fix it and they just lost a loyal customer and got a bad review on Yelp. Hope it was worth it to them read more
