I was in the area running errands and was craving poke, so I decided to stop by. The shop is small with just a few tables. I got a medium bowl with salad, two scoops of marinated tuna, and one scoop of spicy tuna. The marinated tuna was a little salty for my taste even though a lot of reviews mentioned it was their favorite. I actually preferred the spicy tuna and liked that it wasn't minced up completely like ground meat. Overall the poke was good, just not the best I've had around the Bay Area. The two things that make I'a Poke stand out for me: 1) the marinated fish (particularly the tuna); 2) the seasoned seaweed (different from the usual seaweed salad). What stands out here from most other poke shops here on the mainland are the tasty and authentically marinated spicy pokes that remind me of those in Hawaii, and the huge portion I received for a "medium" which is really like a "Large" at most other places. My favorite poke spot in the area. The portions are generous, a good value, and there are plenty of toppings. If you get one of the marinated fish with onions, keep an eye on it when it's scooped because sometimes the onion to fish ratio isn't perfect. read more

I'a Poke is one of my favorite poke spots in the Bay Area! It's a walkable distance from my work and is the only place I go to if I don't make lunch for myself. There is a little bit of seating available inside. I personally bring my food back to my work to eat so it doesn't affect my rating. Previously there was one worker (I never asked for his name despite never failing to see him every time I've visited), but now that the place is getting more attention I think there is another worker helping him. Now the food is REALLY REALLY good. The seasonings and sauces paired with the fresh fish are chef's kiss. I've never been disappointed. I always get the sesame shoyo, spicy mayo, and unagi sauce with two scoops of salmon and either yellowtail or tuna to finish it off. The portions are generous and a medium bowl is $16 before tax. Affordable and satisfied? That's what you'll get here. Would love to bring my poke loving friends here some day. read more

Ordered I'a poke from the app Too Good To Go and received a surprise box that was loaded with rice as well as salmon, tuna, and crab meat plus spicy mayo and cilantro. I hadn't heard of I'a pole prior and was surprised when I found out how close it is; in between SOMA and Mission Bay near the round a bouts are: the Design District. Without having any expectations, I was pleasantly surprised how good the poke bowl was! Both the salmon and tuna tasted very fresh and clean; nothing fishy in a negative way. The crab salad was also well balanced as it wasn't overloaded in mayo so the flavor stuck out well. I'm not a big fan of spicy but the spicy mayo packed a good hot that wasn't overpowering. The staff at the restaurant were also super friendly. They greeted me with positive, loud energy when I arrived and helped me with grabbing my pick up order. read more

I was craving poke and decided to see what was nearby on our drive back from east bay into the city and landed on l'a poke. Their online ordering system did not work when we preordered our bowls so when we came to pick them up we had to wait 10-15min for the order to be made. I ordered the tango bowl with white rice and my partner ordered the aloha bowl with brown rice. The white rice in my bowl was so mushy and not vinegar-y at all like how sushi rice is made. Furthermore the whole mix itself was tasteless - I expected more from a signature bowl. My partner's bowl tasted better than mine, but that's not saying much. Overall, cravings weren't met and I probably wouldn't come back to order from here again. read more

Poke spots are popping up around the city like daisies, but what's nice about I'a Poke is that they they have some menu diversity goin' on. They offer sushi burritos, signature bowls you can order off their menu, a build-your-own option, and freshly made spam musubi. Last night I opted for a poke salad bowl instead (tryna ease up on some carbs, ya feel), and I decided to make my own. For roughly $15 you get a choice of 4 proteins and unlimited choices of toppings and sauces. I decided on 2 scoops of salmon, 1 scoop of spicy tuna, and 1 scoop of tofu. Took my bowl to go, although you can dine in with a couple seating options. Overall my bowl was pretty tasty, except when I got to the spicy tuna. No offense to y'all, but my tuna did not taste fresh -- I'm not sure if it was because it was the end of the day and I got the last pickings, but my tuna escapade knocked off a star from my experience. The texture was a little off and it tasted a little sour (maaaaaybe due to the sauce?). Regardless, I didn't wanna chance it, so I brushed it to the side. Our server was pretty indifferent, but I didn't expect much from a casual quick dine-and-go. Since it's a solid spot in the neighborhood, I'll be back to give to sushi burrito (sans tuna) and spam musubi a try. read more

My go-to item is the Volcanorrito. It's a great mix of ingredients for me, but the price increase from a couple years ago makes it a splurge now, so I don't get to have it as much as I'd like. But I'm really sad to report the portion size has gotten a lot smaller in 2022, by 25% or more. I was able to eat a $16 meal in six bites, and then I had to take a second lunch break to go out and find another meal. At this point the disappointment is a major part of the experience, so it's really hard to justify returning. read more

I'a Poke has opened up a new location! I accidentally stumbled upon it yesterday when I went to get a massage next door at Suchada. They're currently doing a soft opening and they've been open since last Thursday, Oct 5. The woman working told me that they're only currently open on weekdays and not weekends. Not sure about the hours, but I am thinking 11 am or 12 pm because when I came for my massage at 10:50 am, they were still closed. Solid poke spot in SOMA. A small bowl for $10.25 gets you 2 proteins and a large bowl for $14 gets you 3 proteins. Keep in mind that a serving of protein means a little child size ice cream scoop. It's OK, but they're not generous with the fish. But a small is fine because you can load up on toppings like seaweed salad, and crab salad, and tamago for no extra charge. Service is friendly and they have a rewards program so in theory that brings down the price if you're going to take advantage. It gets pretty busy for lunch so go early or late. read more

The very first time I went I got the shrimp, this was underwhelming. The have yellowfin, salmon, tuna, octopus and shrimp. You can get either brown or white rice and they have a ton of other stuff to add on. Overall as many times as I've been only once did I even question the freshness and it wasn't a big question, just a back of my mind this could be a little more fresh thought. The line moves slow and they have super limited seating, maybe for 15 people. It's a take out lunch spot. For the price point it's a fair deal, one complaint is that the actual portion of poke is a little small. That's why it's fair at best, a little bit bigger scoop of fish would make it irresistible. read more

A $11 poke bowl comes with an amazing portion of fish and generous selection of toppings. Tons of sauces and garnishes to choose from as well! My go-to order is a small bowl with salmon and spicy tuna, with half brown rice and salad base, topped with edamame, cucumber, seaweed salad, green onion, and furikake. Finally tried this place for lunch! Got the sushiritto. The small bowl is 2 proteins, the large bowl is 4 proteins, and I wanted 3 proteins so my only choice was a sushiritto. Thought that was a bit strange. (Can I not get a poke bowl with 3 proteins? Maybe I'll ask next time...) Got two scoops of salmon and one of hamachi. They are pretty generous with their proteins and toppings, which is always a plus. The seaweed was a little soggy, and I was eating inside the restaurant too. Overall though, pretty good lunch spot. Was really great when they first opened but now I feel like the quality has gotten worse. Last time I ordered tako (octopus) and it wasn't cooked correctly. Was slimey, chewy, and fishy when it should have been a firm texture with a bite. Today, I asked for half brown rice and half salad and the salad mix was totally wilted. I had to pick all of the bad pieces out before eating and it was very unappetizing but I was hungry so I ate it anyway. This happened another time as well but it wasn't this bad--just a few wilted pieces. I'a poke has fresh fish, arguably, some of the freshest fish in San Francisco but the portions are so tiny you won't be full after paying $18 for a poke bowl. I ordered the largest sized poke bowl and found maybe 5-6 pieces of fish in a sea of rice and toppings (which they were also stingy about). They have a small selection of toppings compared to other poke places. Their prices are higher than other comparable poke places around so the portion to price ratio is poor. Great as an expensive appetizer but otherwise try Fusion Poki or the other nearby poke places instead. read more
