THE BEST food we ate in all of San Francisco!!! This place is very popular and when we pulled up, the line went to the end of the block. Thankfully it moved quickly -- don't be deterred!!! The flow is very interesting-- you wait in line outside until you reach a small kiosk at the doorway. A hostess writes your order in hieroglyphics on server paper and you're given the stub with our order number. You're directed inside to the cashier, who double checks the order and you pay. You remain in the same line, but now you're in front of the assembly line of cooks (shout out Miguel!). The line leads to a hostess, who seats each guest in order. Once seated, you wait for your order to be called, grab you food, and eat. It's very orderly and extremely low stress. It would be utter chaos if guests had to find their own seating -- likely ruining everyone's experience. Instead, you can relax, hang out with others in line, and watch the chef's assembling burritos. The restaurant should be commended for such an efficient process! Onto the food... The carne asado burrito (dorado) is incredible! The meat is tender and salted perfectly. The beans are gooey and delicious. The guacamole is a bright and beautiful green and the taste is exceptional. There was sour cream too, but portioned perfectly to blend in with all the other flavors. The green salsa (the only salsa at the table) was perfectly balanced. I ordered a small horchata and it was overpriced (just shy of $5) and I wouldn't order it on my next visit. The whole experience was incredible and even with a huge line, we were in and out in less than an hour. Not bad at all for the best burritos we've ever had!!!
La Taqueria! I remember this place from the early 1990's. The food was always great - flavorful and plentiful. I gad the carne asada dorado style super and a mango juice. So tasty! Service was friendly a fast so do not skip the place because of the line. Its a busy fast pace cozy seating area and can be a bit loud. I may stop back in before I leave San Fran!
An honest review. I feel a lot of people can sway their opinions based on their hopeful expectations that led up to the experience merely cause you want it to be as good as others say. I'm only going to talk about the food. So, this is a good burrito.... BUT not the best. Now the flavors in the burrito work well and good when it's a cohesive bite. However, a lot of my bites were mostly guac and cheese. The burrito did lack balance and consistency. The burrito "dorado" style comes toasted but it didn't help the structure, texture, or flavor. It still remained soft and almost as a regular untoasted burrito will feel. The guac at times overpowered the burrito and general flavor of the steak. Especially being cooked over fire you hope to taste that char and smokiness. The carnitas was okay, tender but needed salt and lemon. Is this place worth trying? Absolutely. But don't expect an other-worldly experience.

Normally that's when I question my patience... but when a line is wrapped around the building before lunch even starts you know something serious is happening. Spoiler: it was worth it. We ordered the carne asada tacos and the asada burrito. The tacos were packed with flavor and loaded up. I had a hard time holding my one taco and gracefully eating it. I thought the tacos were good then I tried the asada burrito... I only had a few bites and it stole the show for me. I'm still thinking about it, which feels a little dramatic but honestly, that burrito earned the attention. It was that good. Every staff member I interacted with was also incredibly kind. They managed the flow of people well and I didn't feel rushed at all while dining in. Overall 10/10. The hype is real it. The line is long, but it moves and the food absolutely delivers.
I beared the brunt of the 30 minute wait but it was well worth it. The carne asada in the supermarket burrito was deliciously seasoned with bigger chunks of meat than your average carne asada. Notably, these burritos don't have rice, but are instead replaced with copious amount of guac and refried beans. They do take credit card but there is a slight fee. Also, they do take call orders but NOT during peak hours.
We were introduced to La Taqueria in 1999 as "heaven wrapped up in a tortilla." We were poor grad students living in the Mission and ate here once a week. After all this time, this place still delivers and we were so happy to see their 2025 Michelin sticker. My go-to order is the super burrito, no beans, dorado grilled. Get the bottle of the green salsa for the table and squirt on each bite. Mmmm... it really is magical. So good. The strawberry Fresca is still refreshing and had fresh bits of fruit. We got there right at 11am and had a short wait. We enjoyed the live mariachi band. Street parking may take a few rounds, be patient. We will always stop by here anytime we are in SF. So glad it was stayed the same all of these years. Don't change a thing!
There was a line when we arrived, but the staff kept things moving quickly. The bigger challenge was actually finding a table, especially since we came with a group of four. Despite how packed it was, the restaurant was clean, the atmosphere was lively, and everyone working there was incredibly friendly. I ordered the burrito while my friends went with a variety of tacos. After trying both, I actually think the tacos are the stronger option. The burrito was flavorful and packed with a generous amount of guacamole, but it was very sloppy. With all the delicious juices from the meat and veggies and no rice to soak everything up, it fell apart pretty quickly. Thank goodness there is a single restroom in the back, which came in handy afterward to wash up. The tacos, on the other hand, were btter balanced and held together much better while still delivering plenty of flavor. The prices were also very reasonable considering how popular the place is.
The food was the three D's: disappointing, dissatisfying, and displeasing. I ordered their famous El Dorado beef burrito along with a strawberry fresca ($22 total). Unfortunately, the burrito was smaller than expected, and the beef was extremely dry. The overall experience was made worse by the wait--it took over an hour from standing in line to finally receiving my food. To their credit, the operation is very well organized. Despite the crowds, the staff kept things moving and the process seemed efficient. The food didn't live up to the hype. That said, many people around me appeared to be enjoying the tacos, so I may give those a try if I decide to come back. Oh and no bathrooms that you can use--I'm sure that is not legal...
The Positive: the workers are friendly and the food is decent. This is a business that has been in the Mission District for decades. There is indoor seating or take out options. The interior is small but it has enough seating for a quick meal. The tacos Dorado are delicious. The Negative: Social media blew this place up so expect to stand in a line and wait in the chaos of the Mission. The prices are a bit high for what you get. If you put the tacos or buritto on front of me, I would say it was good but nothing stood out for me to take a bite and know exactly where it came from. Salsa was very bland in my opinion.
finally got the chance to try it! Waited about 30 minutes in line. I got carne asada tacos to go. Probably would've been better eating inside the restaurant! By the time I ate my tacos they were soaking wet. Despite that, they were delish! The salsa was great with a nice warm heat. The taco was mostly meat and MASSIVE! I'm glad I got to try it! May have to go back!
La Taqueria is a very popular Mexican burrito place in San Francisco and it does not disappoint. Came around 11:30 am in the morning and there were already about 10 parties ahead of us. We ordered the carne asada burrito and carnitas tacos. Besides of course picking your choice of meat, there are a couple of other choices you have to make: 1. Super or not. The super provides you with guacomole and sour cream for an extra charge 2. El dorado style or not. El dorado sears the flour tortilla for a crispy exterior. No extra charge. I definitely recommend both options. I had made the mistake in the past of not ordering either and the burrito is a little more dry without the guacamole and sour cream, and you can definitely taste the difference in not having the seared tortilla. On to the meats, both burrito and tacos offer generous meat portions and the carne asada was smoking and slightly charred. The carnitas were slightly crispy and well seasoned. The tacos come with both a soft and hard shell providing a slight crunch with is my preference over just a soft taco. Inside there were shared tables which move relatively quickly. When we were there, we actually got to listen to some live Mexican music with a live band!

They have limited seating to I recommend taking the burritos to a nearby park and eat. Got 2 super tacos. 1 carne asada/ 1 carnitas, apparently the carnitas was the best in the tacos. I got a super burritos toasted with carne asada. One was spicy and the other was not spicy. It was labeled as spicy but they both had the exact spice level? I'm not sure if they forgot to put hot sauce or if it just isn't too spicy. Either way wish they had spicier hot sauces available either in packets or at the tables since the green salsa isn't too hot. These burritos were very delicious. I loved how you get an option to toast them or not. Because there is no rice, it makes the burrito easy to eat and you dont feel too sick after which is problem I come across burritos often. Definitely a must try!
Buyer beware, despite the long lines outside and the famous name of La Taqueria you will be sorely disappointed. I have tried a plethora Mexican food places as I enjoy it the most and this has by far let me down the most. Although it is super packed and has a lot of business I suspect it used to be amazing and build a reputable name, then finished quality over time and continue to receive customers due to their past performance. The ambiance makes you think that this place offers amazing food considering the amount of people but when you try the food you will truly understand Super Burrito Carne Asada - 3/10 Regular Burrito Cabeza - 5/10 Burritos are extremely small, very oily and have barely any meat inside. Sauces are mid and they are very stingy as well, the won't provide extra sauces even if you ask nicely. Everything just tasted...bad; if you read this hopefully I can save you some money. Any other mexican food spot would be a better selection. Overall rating 2/5.
Got here at 1030am on Wednesday, and I was already 6th in line. The line picked up more around 10:50 so if you come 15 mins before opening, you should be fine. I got my food about 10 mins after ordering. I went with what was popular. The Dorada (toasted) super carne asada burrito was great, but I wish it was more toasty. It was softer than it looked and I assumed that was because they are frying it in lard ? But overall solid and great burrito. I thought the tacos are slept on here. Both asada and lengua tacos were incredible. Tortillas were really fresh and yummy, and they stuff it with a lot of meat (). Would come back if I was in the area and got there within 15 mins of opening. Not sure if I would wait for it tho. read more

This place has a reputation for being the best taqueria in SF, and you can definitely see it based on the lines when you come here. We came here on a random Thursday at 3 pm and surprisingly, the line still almost reached the end of the block. Luckily, the line moves pretty quickly and the food is solid, but be prepared to wait for a bit. My favorite meats here are the cabeza and the lengua. The cabeza is super fatty and tender and has the amazing shreddy quality of a slow cooked meat. It had the soft melty texture of collagen and was super delicious. The lengua is also really good. It was super tender and soft and had the distinct taste of beef tongue but wasn't too overpowering. The carne asada and carnitas had a good flavor but were a little bit dry for me. I think they would be better in a super taco or burrito where you have the extra fat from the cheese and avocado. My only complaint about this place is the price. I realize that everything in SF is expensive, but over $5 for a single taco and almost $9 for a single super taco is pretty egregious. There's food trucks all over the Bay Area offering cheaper (and almost, if not, just as good) tacos in my opinion. read more

Lived up to the hype. I definitely recommend getting your burrito toasted. It had a really nice crispy crust covering the entire thing and it really elevated the meal. There is a big line during peak hours so beware. There's also limited indoor seating so it might be a little before you can find a seat. The staff is all super friendly and is there to help for anything you need. While you wait, there's an open kitchen so there is something to look at and it's nice to see the cook process read more

Expensive and not the best quality Can't believe I'm saying this but the tacos are suppar and the chips and salsa looked and tasted old. Underdogs Taco Shop has been the best go to for chips and salsa and the orange sauce! I was about to give this place two stars but I take it back, this place absolutely sucks probably the worst Mexican food I've ever had. What made matters worse, there was a mariachi band who came into the tight space within the restaurant asking for money and when I wouldn't give them any they wouldn't get out of the way and trapped me in my seat. We started pushing each other and it almost resulted in a fight. Nobody wants to deal with that while they're grabbing food This place offers three star food with five Star prices Agua Frisco at $8 Play salsa had full bed stuffed tomato in it! It's meh! read more

We went on a local friend's recommendation and we were not disappointed. You order outside and then pay inside and then find a table. It opened at 11 and we got there about 15 minutes before open and were 8th in line. We ordered the super burrito carne asada dorado, carnitas super quesadilla dorado and a Lengua taco regular. Everything was absolutely delicious, the dorado is the way to go. If I were to do it all over again, I'd order one of each taco regular NOT super to experience every protein. And I'd get a quesadilla dorado also NOT super. They really shine in their proteins! They even had some live music. Can't wait to go back to try more! read more
Definitely the best burrito spot in the city 10 out of 10 we did the Carne Asada with chips and salsa which was very fresh. The line was quite long wrapped around the block but took about 25 minutes because people come here sit down and they eat and leave pretty quickly because the lines are long. The ambience is very nice. It's like I walked into a Hispanic home. The staff here are very friendly, but please make sure you accommodate because there is a lot of people waiting in line so I'm not saying eat your food fast and leave. There is benches and tables which make it feel like you walked into a Hispanic home as well. The Strawberry Horchata and mango Agua Fresca is really good 10 out of 10. read more
line is long here so be prepared to wait. wait to order. wait in another shorter line to pay. then wait again outside to pickup. they have it down. the whole ordering/paying process. just follow along. dont block the other businesess next to it when youre standing in line. be courteous you must get the burrito el dorado style which is a toasted wrap, has a great crunch and unique. i wonder why more places dont do this? that's what theyre known for here. the meat quality was great, I got no chewy pieces. tried both the carne asada beef and carnitas pork. carnitas is done differently here, reminds me more of a tuna softness. i liked it. read more
My boyfriend claims he was Mexican in his past life since he loves Mexican food so much. He ranked La Taq's burritos above Spartans in SJ, which is a pretty big deal. We ordered a cabeza taco and carne asada burrito. I thought the taco was really good with the salsa verde but slightly dry. The burrito was amazing--juicy and perfectly savory. Our only regret was that we only ordered one burrito. Worth the wait and will be back. read more
Got there before close and there was a long line but they did a great job seating everyone before they shut down. They had some live mariachi bands coming in and out and that made it super fun. We got the carne asada super burrito and got it dorada which was a great add to make it a nice crispy texture. Super big filling burrito, and decent salsa. Wish it was spicier though. The chips and salsa were also great. 5 stars and super good but I probably prefer socal burritos read more

This place is worth the wait! Even though it's crazy busy and chaotic, they have multiple employees managing the craziness well. They have a system that seems to be effective. Get the burrito, Dorado style. The toasted tortilla makes this burrito spectacular. We got the carne asada, carnitas, and vegetarian. The meats were cooked well and so flavorful! All automatically come with cheese, sour cream, guacamole and beans, which makes these burritos filling and great value! Their agua frescas are refreshing and come in a variety of flavors. Very good burritos if you are willing to brave the line. I recommend coming right when they open for shorter lines. The carne asada super burrito is my favorite. The burrito is packed with tender, flavorful meat and that combined with the beans, guacamole, and sauces make it an amazing meal. I recommend getting the burrito dorado (toasted) - it adds a nice texture! I also really like their tortilla, it is very soft and you can tell it's fresh. It was a delicious place to try and see what the hype was about! read more
"The best tacos and burritos in the world." Sorry, I think not. We waited in the line wrapped around the corner for half an hour for the highly anticipated eats at La Taqueria. $6 for a small horchata! Almost $15 for a burrito, and over $8 for ONE taco. Wow! I wouldn't mind the price, or the wait if I thought it was worth it. Our chips and salsa order came with salsa on top of chips. The heck?!? Who does that? The chips were an inedible, soggy mess as we neared the middle, the bottom was awful. The meats (lengua and carne asada) had zero flavor and no char from the grill. Michelin, you're letting me down. My heart (and stomach) is with El Farolito! read more
Before I ever came to San Francisco, this place was already all over my algorithm. Every other food video was somebody claiming best burrito in the country, so it was basically mandatory that we try it. We got there about 10 minutes before opening and the line was already wrapping the corner onto 25th. I had to jump out and hold our spot while my wife spun the block a few times trying to park ,which, like most of this area, is not easy at all. Waited about 20 minutes in line, another 15 once inside, then spent a good 25-30 minutes actually eating while the line kept growing down the block the entire time. We both ordered the Super Burrito Dorado style. First impression, it's good. Really good. The steak was super tender and flavorful, almost closer to braised or pulled beef than your typical chopped carne asada. Beans, salsa, sour cream and guac all worked together nicely and nothing tasted low quality. You can definitely tell they care about what they're serving and why the place has the following it does. But... best burrito in the country? Not for me. The biggest thing is there's no rice. Because of that, it's less filling and the inside almost eats like a dip wrapped in a tortilla. I actually felt like I could've eaten another one, but I wasn't about to get back in that line -- and I didn't even realize the rice was missing until I was halfway done. Also with how tender the beef is, it kind of blends into the beans and cream instead of giving that little bite or texture I personally like in a burrito. Still, it absolutely holds its own and I respect what they built here. You can feel the pride, the community love, and it's easy to see why it became the popular spot in the city. I honestly think it'll still be solid long after the influencer hype dies down. For me though, next visit to SF I'd probably explore other taquerias before coming back but I'd never tell someone not to go. It's definitely a San Francisco experience. And if they ever add rice... Best known for the dorado-style (grilled) carne asada super (avocado, cheese, sour cream) burrito (5/5 stars amazing)! This time I got two regular tacos, the carne asada taco (4/5 stars) and carnitas taco (3/5 stars), but wish I'd ordered a burrito! The strawberry Fresca (4.5/5 stars) is super fresh, no artificial flavors, but the chunks do get stuck in the narrow straws. The line almost always goes outside the restaurant and sometimes around the corner. Do check their hours (often 11-7 or 8:45pm) before you go. Note that if you're dine in, you stand in one line to order, then remain in line to pay, then remain in line to get a table. read more
This place is absolutely worth all the hype. The line was long but moved pretty quickly. I started around the corner down the street, but was able to order in about 30 min. Getting seating indoors is a little tough since there are tons of people, but there is also the option to grab it to-go and find someplace nearby to eat. The burrito itself was probably one of the top 5 burritos I've ever had. It was just a perfect blend of everything. Dorado style is a must for me, it adds a crispy texture to the burrito that really appeals to me. A must try if you are in the area. read more

Lives up to the hype! Came by on a whim while I was in the city with friends on Saturday. We came right between lunch and dinner, so the 2-4pm range. It's walking distance from the nearest bart station and there was a line around the corner. We probably made it to the front of the line in around 30-40 minutes. Once you order, you line up against the counter to pay and wait to be seated. It's the same line to order take out/dine in, but separate waiting lines once you order. Once we were inside, it was about another 15 minute wait after paying to get a seat (every table was filled). A friend let me know that the bathroom toward the back is one person at a time. There was staff everywhere in the kitchen, seating people, helping cash out, refilling salsas, etc. The place is also nicely decorated and you can see how fast staff is working. They have signs recommending you get the burrito toasted (I'm assuming the viral way) and the salsa is spicy! I've never had a burrito /melt/ in my mouth before. It was pretty big, and I slowed down halfway through to finish it. Seasoned well, no rice, guac was also really good. The horchata was okay. I can see why this place is recommended! I've decided bite the bullet and try out the La Taqueria. Everything turned out to be exactly as I've expected it to be. I came in with the expectation that it was an overhyped social media buzz train. I can save you some time and confirm that yes, yes it is. There's so many people saying this is out of the world, best burrito experience of the your life. To that I'd say absolutely not. No offense, my suspicion was confirmed when I looked closer and saw that most of these comments are people visiting the city or the bay for the first time, so I don't blame them. Who I'm not so sure about are the so called "locals" that visitors are referring to that claim they know the bay and this is the best burrito ever. Now, to be fair it's a good burrito, so I don't want to necessary trash talk La Taqueria, just the wack reviews. So let's talk about the food. I've got the carnitas tacos and carne asada burrito, dorado style. Carnitas was ok, an ok side. The burrito I'd gotta say is pretty good. The meat had good flavor and bite to it, the ratio inside was pretty on point where I added guac and cheese. Definitely get it dorado like all the signs plastered around the entrance says, "Order it Dorado!". I think the filling is just very typical to other decent taqueria, but the crispy dorado skin really makes it a different experience. Though the style itself is not that uncommon, they really got the crisp here right. Right amount of crisp and flavor transferred from the grill. I'm giving it a 4 because when I went on a normal week day close to 1:00pm, the line wasn't too bad. I think I got in around 20~25 minutes. I got it dine in and the inside looked busy, but people came and went fairly quickly, so I didn't have trouble finding a table. It had a nice lively feel to it and the tables were pretty clean too. With all that said, if I had to wait 1 or 2 hours like people other did, I'm giving it a 3, even a 2 if I had to wait 2 hours, definitely not worth it at that point. Outstanding. It is always best to go where the locals go. And this did not disappoint. The line was a bit overwhelming, but it moved crazy fast. A QR code allows you access to the menu, from quesadillas, burritos, and tacos with different types of meats; chicken, beef, chorizo, and beef tongue. I was missing al pastor though, it is my favorite. After waiting in line you place your order either to go or to sit in. If you're staying you wait in the line until your order is called and a staff member will clean off a table for your party. I tried the chicken burrito (grilled), chicken quesadilla, beef super taco and chorizo taco. Our order came out fairly quickly. The burrito was a nice size and was delicious! Each table has some green salsa: go easy, that sucker is hot, delicious but super hot! The chicken was seasoned to perfection and was great if you got it alone. The quesadilla wasn't as great as the burrito in my opinion; the shell was fried a wee bit too hard in my opinion. I'm not sure if the beef super taco or the chicken burrito is my fav though. The tacos were stuffed to capacity with meat, and they were super filling. The beans were tasty as was the avocado. The chorizo was a little overcooked to my liking. The staff were kind and helpful in the event that you needed something. There were several tables, the interior reminded me of some restaurants in Mexico City, loved it, and would certainly return if I ever come back. read more

Finally got around to trying the famous mission burritos at la taqueria in the mission. We were really hungry and thirsty when we arrived. There was a bit of a line, but didn't have to wait too long. Probably 10 minutes until we were able to order. We sat inside while we waited for our sodas and burritos. (Burrito with carnitas and gaucamole and super burrito with carne asada, both toasted - dorado). They were busy so we had to wait about 15 minutes (toasted also takes longer) the burritos were great. Nicely toasted, filled with lots of great ingredients and super filling. The burrito doesn't really doesn't need any rice. I think I liked the carnitas a bit better than the carne asada, but I'm glad that we finally got to try it. A bit pricey for simple street food, but definitely worth a stop. The restaurant is very simple inside, but still comfortable. Restroom can get quite busy, so get in line early if you feel like you might need it. Staff were very friendly. Will try the tacos next time. read more
Still good! Brought a native here for the first time and he thought they were better than El Farolito, but the wait time and lack of late night hours makes El Farolito easier and a more consistent choice. One of my favorite things is that they are not stingy with their avocado! read more

If you don't mind them putting it into the super nacho container, then yes. They don't have bowl plates but you can ask for it on a palate as well.
