I finally decided to try La Taqueria after always seeing the long lines and hearing so many people rave about it. While I can say the staff was friendly and the service was good, I honestly don't think it lives up to the hype. In my opinion, it's become more of a tourist destination than a must-visit local taqueria. The food was decent, but there are several nearby places that offer better-tasting tacos and burritos for less money--and without the long wait. Despite how packed it was, the restaurant was clean, the atmosphere was lively, and everyone working there was incredibly friendly. The burrito was flavorful and packed with a generous amount of guacamole, but it was very sloppy. With all the delicious juices from the meat and veggies and no rice to soak everything up, it fell apart pretty quickly. Unfortunately, the burrito was smaller than expected, and the beef was extremely dry. The interior is small but it has enough seating for a quick meal. The tacos Dorado are delicious. La Taqueria is a very popular Mexican burrito place in San Francisco and it does not disappoint. Came around 11:30 am in the morning and there were already about 10 parties ahead of us. We ordered the carne asada burrito and carnitas tacos. Besides of course picking your choice of meat, there are a couple of other choices you have to make: 1. Super or not. The super provides you with guacomole and sour cream for an extra charge 2. El dorado style or not. El dorado sears the flour tortilla for a crispy exterior. No extra charge. I definitely recommend both options. I had made the mistake in the past of not ordering either and the burrito is a little more dry without the guacamole and sour cream, and you can definitely taste the difference in not having the seared tortilla. On to the meats, both burrito and tacos offer generous meat portions and the carne asada was smoking and slightly charred. The carnitas were slightly crispy and well seasoned. The tacos come with both a soft and hard shell providing a slight crunch with is my preference over just a soft taco. Inside there were shared tables which move relatively quickly. I have tried a plethora Mexican food places as I enjoy it the most and this has by far let me down the most. Although it is super packed and has a lot of business I suspect it used to be amazing and build a reputable name, then finished quality over time and continue to receive customers due to their past performance. It's a small, crowded restaurant with small tables and some long shared tables. Only 1 bathroom stall per gender Ordered a cabeza super burrito $14.50 and lengua, carne asada, carnitas tacos $5.20 each. The super burrito was fantastic. It is not your typical super burrito. There is no rice and the overall size is smaller. It's sort of like a thicker super quesadilla with everything inside. Ingredients were super fresh, especially the avocado. Cabeza was super tender and moist. The tacos were all pretty mediocre. Their big and loaded with meat, but all 3 meats were bland and dry. It comes with beans, salsa, onion, cilantro. A bottle of green salsa is on every table. You can also ask for spicy sauce as well, which I found to be not spicy at all Honestly, there are so many taquerias in the mission that do super burritos just as well, just slightly differently, and tacos are way better. Before I ever came to San Francisco, this place was already all over my algorithm. Every other food video was somebody claiming best burrito in the country, so it was basically mandatory that we try it. We got there about 10 minutes before opening and the line was already wrapping the corner onto 25th. I had to jump out and hold our spot while my wife spun the block a few times trying to park ,which, like most of this area, is not easy at all. Waited about 20 minutes in line, another 15 once inside, then spent a good 25-30 minutes actually eating while the line kept growing down the block the entire time. We both ordered the Super Burrito Dorado style. First impression, it's good. Really good. The steak was super tender and flavorful, almost closer to braised or pulled beef than your typical chopped carne asada. Beans, salsa, sour cream and guac all worked together nicely and nothing tasted low quality. You can definitely tell they care about what they're serving and why the place has the following it does. But... best burrito in the country? Not for me. The biggest thing is there's no rice. Because of that, it's less filling and the inside almost eats like a dip wrapped in a tortilla. I actually felt like I could've eaten another one, but I wasn't about to get back in that line -- and I didn't even realize the rice was missing until I was halfway done. Also with how tender the beef is, it kind of blends into the beans and cream instead of giving that little bite or texture I personally like in a burrito. Still, it absolutely holds its own and I respect what they built here. You can feel the pride, the community love, and it's easy to see why it became the popular spot in the city. Went here during the Carnaval parade. I had this place bookmarked on places to go to. There was a lone, but it wasn't too long. The line moved along quickly. A lot of people that order here usually get their food to go. But you do have the option to eat there. You place the order with the woman out front she will give you a tag and then you take it to the window to the left of the entrance to pay. Even though the woman said it would take about 20 minutes to get our food. It was much longer. So be prepared to wait, especially when they're really busy. I ordered two burritos, one regular and one super. As the menu mentions, they are both the same size, but the super contains sour cream, guacamole, and pico. But I got the pico on the side. The regular burrito is pretty basic. It's good but since they don't put rice in their burritos, it only contained rice and beans because I didn't want any pico/hot sauce in my burrito. Lives up to the hype! Came by on a whim while I was in the city with friends on Saturday. We came right between lunch and dinner, so the 2-4pm range. It's walking distance from the nearest bart station and there was a line around the corner. We probably made it to the front of the line in around 30-40 minutes. Once you order, you line up against the counter to pay and wait to be seated. It's the same line to order take out/dine in, but separate waiting lines once you order. Once we were inside, it was about another 15 minute wait after paying to get a seat (every table was filled). A friend let me know that the bathroom toward the back is one person at a time. There was staff everywhere in the kitchen, seating people, helping cash out, refilling salsas, etc. The place is also nicely decorated and you can see how fast staff is working. They have signs recommending you get the burrito toasted (I'm assuming the viral way) and the salsa is spicy! I've never had a burrito /melt/ in my mouth before. I've decided bite the bullet and try out the La Taqueria. Everything turned out to be exactly as I've expected it to be. I came in with the expectation that it was an overhyped social media buzz train. I can save you some time and confirm that yes, yes it is. There's so many people saying this is out of the world, best burrito experience of the your life. To that I'd say absolutely not. No offense, my suspicion was confirmed when I looked closer and saw that most of these comments are people visiting the city or the bay for the first time, so I don't blame them. Who I'm not so sure about are the so called "locals" that visitors are referring to that claim they know the bay and this is the best burrito ever. Now, to be fair it's a good burrito, so I don't want to necessary trash talk La Taqueria, just the wack reviews. So let's talk about the food. I've got the carnitas tacos and carne asada burrito, dorado style. Carnitas was ok, an ok side. The burrito I'd gotta say is pretty good. The meat had good flavor and bite to it, the ratio inside was pretty on point where I added guac and cheese. Definitely get it dorado like all the signs plastered around the entrance says, "Order it Dorado!". I think the filling is just very typical to other decent taqueria, but the crispy dorado skin really makes it a different experience. Though the style itself is not that uncommon, they really got the crisp here right. Right amount of crisp and flavor transferred from the grill. I'm giving it a 4 because when I went on a normal week day close to 1:00pm, the line wasn't too bad. I think I got in around 20~25 minutes. I got it dine in and the inside looked busy, but people came and went fairly quickly, so I didn't have trouble finding a table. It had a nice lively feel to it and the tables were pretty clean too. With all that said, if I had to wait 1 or 2 hours like people other did, I'm giving it a 3, even a 2 if I had to wait 2 hours, definitely not worth it at that point. The staff kept things running smoothly the whole time from taking the orders, to seating us to getting our food. This was probably the best burrito I've ever had. Each bite legitimately melted in my mouth. The bread was perfectly toasted (get it dorado style!), the cheese, oil, tomatoes, and avocado give the burrito a ton of juicy flavor, and the carne asada is high quality and cooked perfectly. Portions are relatively large; for $1.50, the avocado add on is extremely worth it since they give you alot throughout the burrito. The carne asada was flavorful and had a smoky taste, while the cabeza was tender. That said, I still thought the burrito was okay. The restaurant is small, and the tables are also small. If you're dining with a larger party, the employees simply push multiple small tables together. Customer service was good. Everyone I interacted with was friendly. Beware!!! I need to warn people about this because I only found out AFTER asking questions myself. This place is famous for their burritos and especially the "Dorado style," which tastes amazing -- BUT what they don't clearly disclose anywhere is that the Dorado style burrito is cooked in pork lard unless you specifically ask for it "dry" or with vegetable oil. As someone who does not eat pork for religious reasons, finding that out after already eating there was honestly really upsetting. And the frustrating part is that there is NO clear sign or disclosure telling customers this. If I never asked, I would have had no idea. I actually still like this spot and appreciate that they at least offer a dry/vegetable oil option if you ask, but customers should not have to investigate ingredients themselves to avoid pork. Jewish, Muslim, vegetarian, and other customers deserve transparency. A simple sign or note on the menu saying that Dorado style is prepared with pork lard by default would solve this issue completely. Great food, but this absolutely needs to be disclosed better. We went on a Saturday morning and the line wrapped around the corner. They have two lines as you get closer. If you order to go, it will be faster but if you want to eat inside, it will take a while. We decided to dine inside, and we waited about an hour to be seated. Once you order at the window, you have to get in line again inside to wait for a table. We ordered the carne asada super burrito which seems to be the most popular one here. We had two of the burritos "dorados" toasted and one not toasted. Toasted is for sure the way to go! It comes perfectly toasted and not overly cooked. Now the flavor of the burrito was a 5/5 for me! My husband had the burrito not toasted, and it was a bit soggy. The taste was delicious. The super burrito comes with guac, sour cream, beans, cheese, pico de gallo, and a choice of meat. Inside they have a green salsa to add. We also had the chips with pico and sour cream; they gave a lot of pico and sour cream, but it was a bit lacking in salt. It tasted better once we added some of the spicy green salsa. We shared Horchata, and the flavor was good and refreshing. Overall the burritos are delicious! Would I wait another hour for it, probably not, I would have to be in the mood to be honest. Came here at 12pm Saturday and the line was around the corner. The takeout line and dine-in line were the same line and a staff would come up to people in line asking if they're ordering takeout or dining in. For those who wanted to dine-in stayed in the line and since I wanted to-go, she took my order led me to the to-go window where i paid. Up to this point I've spent 20 mins waiting which was not bad at all and the wait for the actual food took another 20-30mins. Got the grilled carne asada burrito. The filling was soft and moist(almost wet) but somehow the tortilla still keeps everything together well. With the tortilla a bit grilled it was a bit crispy on the outer and incredibly juicy inside. Also no rice in the burrito so if you come hungry you CAN eat an entire burrito. Also peeked inside the dining room and looked pleasant. Staff were super busy but they were friendly. I'm not much of a burrito person, but this, I can go back to. I ordered burrito dorado cabeza, but my favorite was the burrito dorado carnitas. The pork was just a lot tastier. They also have a generous swrving of meat and avocado in that super burrito. Service did not feel extraordinary but they were quick. Staff were polite. There was a long line when we got there so it took some time before we can order our food. read more

I found this place via a google search and through a friend's recommendation so I mentally prepared myself for a long line before I came. Surprisingly, there was only a small Iine of about 6 people ahead of me when I arrived on a Thursday around noon time. Orders are taken outside and then you enter the restaurant to pay and find a seat to eat. The restaurant itself is fairly small but there were some large tables for big groups but probably hard to snag during prime mealtimes. My order took about 10 minutes to come out. I ordered a super carne asada burrito, dorado style (grilled) and it was amazing!!! The burrito was flavorful, fresh, and I loved the crispness of the tortilla. Topped with the salsa verde sauce that's on the table - this was one of the best burritos I've ever had and I still think about it, weeks later. So the wife and I were headed to SF for an event and we had some time to kill-she randomly asks if I would take her to the mission district in SF since she had never been and that got me thinking-there is a pretty famous burrito shop I've never hit before in the mission,so I set my sights on the world famous,social media darling,viral burrito shop-La Taqueria on Mission. We took BART to the mission district and got off on 24th street station-so obviously no issues with parking-I wonder if locals even drive when getting around the city-I'm unsure of that as an out of town-er.This restaurant was a short walk from the bart station,less than 2 blocks I'd say and it's a nice walk passing local merchants that for sure made you feel like you were in the mission district. When I finally arrived at the shop around 1p on a Friday-there was a line around the block-minimum 50 people ahead of me and I was a bit frustrated but I jumped on Yelp and Reddit and just about every where I read said the line moved very fast-so I took my spot in line.I would say they were correct-it went pretty fast-maybe 45 minutes to get thru that line,maybe a tad longer but it didn't feel like it,lots of action in that part of town,so it was an enjoyable wait just people watching in the Mission. Once you get to the door,their is a lady/cashier who takes your order-I went with a Super Carne Asada Burrito ($14.50) filled with carne asada,beans,pico de gallo,sour cream,cheese and guacamole.The wife got Super Carne Asada Quesadilla filled with exact same ingredients-only hers was a huge flour tortilla that was pretty crisped up in a good way,not sure that makes sense. After you order you walk inside along the kitchen area and you can watch the workers work their magic,massive piles of carne asada with a worker making tacos after tacos,another guy manning the grill toasting up the burritos right before they are served to the customers,another guy who's only job is to wrap burritos over and over again-he is a magician with his rolling skills.A few older senoras back there managing all the drinks from soda machines to horchatas and you can tell they have been there a long time and this was their kitchen-it was sweet to watch such a well oiled machine do its thing in that kitchen.So we moved pretty slowly down this line awaiting a table assignment-this was not like classic taquerias where u see an open table and you go there-they assign all seating at all the tables and that dining room is bustling-so I was glad for their system so I wouldn't have to fight for a table. When we finally got our table,it couldn't have been more than 3 minutes and we had our food in front of us-pretty good system they got there where nobody gets their food before having a place to sit. I forgot we also ordered chips and salsa which was basically a ton of chips with a huge amount of pico de gallo-their pico is pretty good but to be honest,it was my last priority-I was here for that burrito.Burritos here are unique in 2 ways,one and it's a really big thing for most people-no rice is served with these burritos-I was sure I was going to hate it but I tried to keep an open mind,the other thing is that the burritos were toasted after they are wrapped and before being served-that feature I knew I would love,it's such a flavor enhancer when the tortilla is toasty. Another thing,it's a little tough when you hear about a place that is supposed to be the end all be all type of place,like La Taqueria-best burritos in the world,highest rated shop out there,like their is no way it could possibly live up to expectations right?...WRONG-this place lived up to the hype-the seasonings,the flavors,the perfect mix-all top notch-the flavoring on the carne asada was a perfect mix of savory and citrus that all carne asada in the world should aim for-the carne asada truly carried this burrito to its well deserved lofty ratings score-I loved it very much. I kinda laughed at the wife because her quesadilla was basically exactly the same as my burrito but just not rolled up and in quesadilla form-I got to perform my "closer" duties on her dish because she was only able to eat half of it,so I came in to close it out and finish off her meal-straight perfection-same reason,the carne asada was just excellent. In closing-if you ever find yourself in SF and want to try a truly authentic burrito experience-get yourself over to La Taqueria and enjoy this truly amazing dining experience. PS-they had a 2 man trio mariachi band playing in the dining area-talk about cool times. PSS-don't want to say this too loud and don't kill me for this but all that being said-I liked the quesadilla more than the burrito-Be Safe Out There. read more
