Incredible Mexican food at Tacos El Tucan! The neighborhood, the food, the vibes- its colorful and delicious! The vibrancy of the food speaks for itself- the tacos were fresh, flavorful and bold. The service was really fast and delivered on efficiency. I can't recommend Tacos El Tucan enough- great price point and exceeded expectations on taste.

Fast casual sit down seating inside and outside, on a quiet side street next to a not-so-quiet bar. I got the supreme bowl with birria- it came with rice, guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream and a side of chips. In total, including tip it was a little bit less than $20. I liked that there was plenty of seating, and the cashier was dupe friendly and even gave me a taste of the agua Fresca. I felt the Jamaica agua Fresca was very sweet but tasty. This would be a good place to catch up with friends and is priced the same as your average mission taqueria for roughly the same quality of food but a nicer ambiance.

Tacos el Tucan is one of the best options for birria in San Francisco. Overall I find the food to be delicious and authentic. The space itself is more casual but it's comfortable. Service is reasonably quick and I had no complaints. If you're looking for a good Mexican spot in the Castro I would recommend it

This is for my overall experience for their delicious deal on cinco de mayo! Tacos el Tuscan (based in the heart of the Castro) had a $1 deal that was worth waiting for (super long line might I add!) The space is relatively spacious for smaller groups to hangout after a night out around the area for delicious munchies. I'll definitely be coming back if I'm around the area especially for their carne asada tacos! (They do NOT skimp on their portions and the guac came with the order!!!)

Red Taco with shrimp & one, chicken

Don't let my sad little photo belie the absolutely delicious and flavorful "red" tacos ($5.95 each) I had at Tacos El Tucan tonight. Crunchy with shrimp and a creamy cabbage and the chicken redolent with lots of fresh cilantro, it was the first time I had a red taco. This will be my go-to always. My son had the crunchy red burrito ($15.75) with chorizo, crispy cheese, sour cream, pinto beans, guacamole and pico de gallo with a horchata to drink. On a Saturday night in the Castro, this corner of 16th and Market is already poppin' with area bars so while they'll rush out with your order curbside, my son dashed in for speed. Super friendly service, cute cafe tables for dine-in, Tacos El Tucan is now on the dining circuit. Love this spot and it's close by, too. Open very late on Saturday night 'til 2am if you're partying and craving drunchies.

Absolutely delicious. The tortillas were fresh and soft The toppings on the tacos were not only anesthetically pleasing but hit all the right taste buds.

Not a fan, but wish I was. Third time here, no bueno. I had a basic Quesadilla w/marinated pork. Oddly enough, the receipt said just "meat", which I even questioned after a few bites of my choice. It was absolutely flavorless, you wouldn't know this was "pork", unless someone told you it was. Chopped in little bits, more akin to ground up in little teeny tiny pieces, dry and dark as if it was over cooked. (See photo). Extremely disappointing and very unappetizing. Even added a few of the med heat salsa's, still nothing. The chips were warm, but again, flavorless as was most of the salsas. Not even a dusting of salt on the chips. Thank goodness it was only $13.00 Third time was not a charm, in this case and IMO.

The décor is really nice -- the Frida Kahlo painting on the wall is cool. But the food... not a fan. I ordered the pollo asado tacos and the shrimp taco. The shrimp needed to be grilled more, and the pollo asado tasted a little burnt with barely any flavor. I'm giving it three stars only because the horchata was AMAZING -- perfectly made and served in a cute cup. Other than that, I probably wouldn't come back again. The horchata? Yes. The food? No.

My wife and I shared carnitas nachos and carne asada tacos . Both dishes were served promptly and wonderfully delicious. I've been here 2x already and have never been disappointed. Keep up the great work and food Rl Tucán.

Delicious quick service Mexican food! We shared the the carne asada fries and I had a birria taco ala cart . Both were AMAZING! The fries were the best that I have yet to have! Will for sure eat here again!!

Casual taco spot in the Castro with tons of seating. You order at the register in the front and seat yourself. They also have a salsa bar and the water is self-serve. I got one quesobirria taco, and two al pastor tacos. I enjoyed both but I preferred the al pastor which was very flavorful. I also enjoyed the pineapple agua fresca which was fruit and refreshing. Overall, was a pretty solid meal. It satisfied my taco craving

    Tucan Nachos

Food was amazing! So much flavor and freshness with every bite. I noticed the nachos were very light and not super greasy at all, which I definitely appreciate. Inside was nice and clean, with plenty of seating options inside and out. Food came out fairly fast for it being as busy as it was (St.patty's weekend). Even if the wait was longer it would be well worth it! 10/10 recommend if you're in the area- especially the nachos!

I got my food about 10 mins after ordering. I went with what was popular. The Dorada (toasted) super carne asada burrito was great, but I wish it was more toasty. It was softer than it looked and I assumed that was because they are frying it in lard ? But overall solid and great burrito. I thought the tacos are slept on here. A lot of people mentioned about the service, the mole, and birria. I am a big fan of birria tacos so I decided to give it a try. Because I would be coming from Philadelphia, I called to see if they have a reservation. Jose, the owner, who answered my call was super friendly and nice. He said that there's no reservations but he promised to secure some seats for us because the week prior they were really busy. At that point I knew that the service would be excellent. When I got there Jose and staff were super welcoming as if we've known each other for a long time. He gave 2 small plates of rice, red enchilada sauce, green enchilada sauce, mole with chicken tinga, and birria. Everything is super flavorful and authentic. It transported me to Mexico because I could taste the homemade cooking in it and the passion and love in preparing this amazing food. They take pride in the quality of their cooking. Both the chicken tinga and birria meat are tender and fresh. You can order the food at the touch screen at the counter. You can select your preference for the filling. My friend asked to separate the meat from the tortillas and separate consommé. Jose gladly accommodate her special request. Definitely above and beyond service. They provide complimentary chips and salsa. The chips are fresh and thin with 2 green sauce and two red ones. The staff warned us that the red onesie are hot. The salsa is very fresh and homemade. The mole sauce has a flavor that I can't find anywhere else. I could taste the chocolate but not very sweet. It's very unique and delicious. The red and green enchilada sauce are also phenomenal . Not too salty, yet light and packed with flavor. Their birria tacos are now one of my top ones that I've ever had. Very flavorful and not salty. Definitely recommend it. Guacamole is also a good appetizer because it is very fresh. The restaurant is clean with seatings at the front and back of the restaurant. I still cannot forget the taste of the enchilada sauce that blew me away. I left my heart in Cocina Mamá Cholita. Thanks you for a memorable dinner.

The energy is lively and the staff is welcoming, which makes it all the more disappointing when the food hits the table. My vegetarian burrito bowl was a study in minimalism gone wrong: a couple of tablespoons of rice, a scoop of beans, and what can only be described as an entire head of plain lettuce -- no dressing, no seasoning, no soul. My dining companion fared no better with the carne asada quesadilla, which arrived bland and stuffed with what tasted like canned vegetables, all wrapped in an oversized flour tortilla that couldn't hide the lack of care in the kitchen. Mexican cuisine is built on bold spices, fresh ingredients, and layers of flavor. This kitchen seems to have missed that memo entirely.
