After my sister's wedding, my other sister and I were hungry before the reception so we came here and enjoyed a little snack. Really worth it honestly! They have really good salsa here and I loved that they had a keto option for the tortilla on the taco by making a cheese shell. Everyone in our party really enjoyed the food and we all left satisfied. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the place was relatively clean inside. They had really delicious salsa we still can't get over, really worth going to! Fast casual sit down seating inside and outside, on a quiet side street next to a not-so-quiet bar. I got the supreme bowl with birria- it came with rice, guacamole, pico de gallo, sour cream and a side of chips. In total, including tip it was a little bit less than $20. I liked that there was plenty of seating, and the cashier was dupe friendly and even gave me a taste of the agua Fresca. I felt the Jamaica agua Fresca was very sweet but tasty. This is for my overall experience for their delicious deal on cinco de mayo! Tacos el Tuscan (based in the heart of the Castro) had a $1 deal that was worth waiting for (super long line might I add!) The space is relatively spacious for smaller groups to hangout after a night out around the area for delicious munchies. I'll definitely be coming back if I'm around the area especially for their carne asada tacos! (They do NOT skimp on their portions and the guac came with the order!!!) read more

Don't let my sad little photo belie the absolutely delicious and flavorful "red" tacos ($5.95 each) I had at Tacos El Tucan tonight. Crunchy with shrimp and a creamy cabbage and the chicken redolent with lots of fresh cilantro, it was the first time I had a red taco. This will be my go-to always. My son had the crunchy red burrito ($15.75) with chorizo, crispy cheese, sour cream, pinto beans, guacamole and pico de gallo with a horchata to drink. On a Saturday night in the Castro, this corner of 16th and Market is already poppin' with area bars so while they'll rush out with your order curbside, my son dashed in for speed. Super friendly service, cute cafe tables for dine-in, Tacos El Tucan is now on the dining circuit. Love this spot and it's close by, too. Open very late on Saturday night 'til 2am if you're partying and craving drunchies. read more

Best taco shop in SF hands down, and I'm very picky with my taco shops as someone who grew up in San Diego. I had honestly given up on finding a taco shop here that really feels like home. The salsas here are usually weak, the flavors muted, and overall taco shops here are just not the same. And why is it so hard to find a great tortilla?? Anyway, when El Tucan opened up in the Castro and I saw that it was "TJ style" I knew I had to try it and it has become my main taco shop in the city. The bean and cheese burrito is great. The salsa bar is immaculate and self-serve, with limes available as well. Everything they make is full of flavor and the right portions, not just lumps of flavorless meat, beans and rice like you find at many SF taco shops. If I have to bust out my own salsa at home from the fridge, your salsa is WEAK. The staff is great, I even saw them have a birthday celebration in the kitchen and I could see how the team really appreciated each other, and customers can feel that energy. El Tucan is the best. I hope they expand more in the city. It's always there for me when I miss San Diego and need a true bean and cheese burrito after a night drinking. read more

Not a fan, but wish I was. Third time here, no bueno. I had a basic Quesadilla w/marinated pork. Oddly enough, the receipt said just "meat", which I even questioned after a few bites of my choice. It was absolutely flavorless, you wouldn't know this was "pork", unless someone told you it was. Chopped in little bits, more akin to ground up in little teeny tiny pieces, dry and dark as if it was over cooked. (See photo). Extremely disappointing and very unappetizing. Even added a few of the med heat salsa's, still nothing. The chips were warm, but again, flavorless as was most of the salsas. Not even a dusting of salt on the chips. The shrimp needed to be grilled more, and the pollo asado tasted a little burnt with barely any flavor. Casual taco spot in the Castro with tons of seating. You order at the register in the front and seat yourself. They also have a salsa bar and the water is self-serve. I got one quesobirria taco, and two al pastor tacos. I enjoyed both but I preferred the al pastor which was very flavorful. I also enjoyed the pineapple agua fresca which was fruit and refreshing. Food was amazing! So much flavor and freshness with every bite. I noticed the nachos were very light and not super greasy at all, which I definitely appreciate. Inside was nice and clean, with plenty of seating options inside and out. Food came out fairly fast for it being as busy as it was (St.patty's weekend). Went here on such a nice night, we sat outside and the string lights and street table made it feel super cozy. You order at the counter which is a bit chaotic, which is my only downside to this place so far. I loved the chicken tacos best, don't miss the sauces bar up to the right of the counter. Still drooling over these Crispy. Adobada. Tacos. WITH Pineapple (they're so kind to ask if you want to add) and green cilantro sauce. Next time: I think I'd add a cheese crust inside. Maybe get their Keto version wrapped with the crispy red tortilla. The shrimp quesadilla was sooo good - tortilla was the chewy semi translucent type, my favorite. It also was oozing with this green sauce. Salsa bar is a plus- the mild one was smokey and sweet. Also 10/10 on chips they had...lots of flavor (fried in lard maybe?) and nice / crunchy. Awesome location and beautiful on a warm sunny day. This place opens until 2am!!! Sounds like a perfect treat after the Castro bars. Was it the best tacos I've ever had for the price? The food here was a hit or miss. Overall, it's not worth ordering from here again because there are way better taco spots in the city. I ordered a carne asada taco, adobada (al pastor) taco, quesabirrias combo, and a bowl. My favorite item was the quesabirria. This was delicious and was the only item worth ordering. The consume was flavorful as well. However, this still isn't my favorite quesabirria spot in SF. Now...onto the bad. The tortillas completely ruined the tacos here! The tortillas were likely not fresh or were poorly made because they were very dry and started breaking apart the second I reached for each taco. Needless to say, the tacos were super messy to eat as they were falling apart. The carne asada and adobada also lacked flavor. The carne asada, in particular, was very dry and unpleasant to eat. I don't recommend ordering either of these tacos. read more

I also tried their birria taco, and I think the consome could be more flavorful. The cheese and beef in the birria taco was tasty, and definitely filling. This guy in the photo is SO RUDE... My first time in the city left a horrible taste in my mouth. I went in with my grandpa which is hard of hearing but this cashier was RUSHING US. We are clearly new to this place and he just wanted us to order right away... He told us to move out of the way so people behind us can order first. We were only standing there for 1 minute. The customer service here is horrendous. Then we proceeded to order and he was giving us attitude the whole time. I said I only wanted 2 tacos but on the system he put 3. I asked him that i only wanted two tacos. He said NO YOU SAID YOU WANTED 3. Like why im getting lectured by you all of a sudden. Then when we payed and even TIPPED he made sure to say "MAKE SURE ITS RIGHT NEXT TIME". Holy cow im NEVERRR coming here again even if the food is "good". Each of us got our own things and shared them. Keto Birria was phenomenal. The fries were cooked perfectly. Got in an iced coffee as well. Portions strongly on the larger side. Me for instance had enough alone for 2-3 meals. Didn't even come close to finishing the food on my plate. I pass it by every day when I walk from the gym and I always noticed it but never stopped in. I asked my cousin if he was hungry? lol of course he was i,ordered him a quesadilla chicken and cheese i told him i read the chicken was great and has lots of flavor. But remember we all have different tastes buds and won't be the same as others have. He told me Friday the food made him sick oh no that's not good! Because i was looking forward to eating the grilled chicken,but he got sick from it. As you can see by my tacos i had for Thursday dinner it wasn't too much meat or rice i asked for and i forgot to take a picture of my burrito but it was still wrapped,but as you can see how long it was it wasn't that big it was a regular burrito. I got chips and i got three hot sauce, and that red sauce was HOT!!! LOL The steak had too much gristle and too much fat and it had no flavor it was so Bland. The carnita burrito i ate Friday it was good,but then on Saturday the meat was harder on the second half then the first half. I ate on Friday. I was very disappointed especially after reading so many reviews that people saying it was great and had lots of flavor. Well,i guess the one i found an year ago on mission st. was the best it's just hard to get parking. This is why i look on Yelp for reviews and it said they took credit cards they do not take credit card, so i posted they only do venmo and cash only. Not sure of the times? but I'm posting on what it says on Yelp. So always check before trying any places to eat,and "READ" the REVIEWS! that way you save time and you won't waste your money especially in this economy right now. I was expecting more of a super burrito situation, so it threw me off at first, but once I adjusted my expectations it was pretty good. The carne asada had good flavor, and the fries inside actually worked, adding a bit of texture you don't usually get in a burrito. Now I know the difference between a super burrito and a California burrito. They threw in some salsa and chips too, which was a nice touch. I'll probably try some other options next time, but I think I'm sticking with a regular burrito going forward.

It says they open the 7pm but they're not ready till much later and we were told to show up around 8pm to be first in line. The lengua tacos are fantastic! The horchata is also good. I also had the pastor and carne asada. The pastor was better than the carne asada but even then neither stood out. It was nice to support their entrepreneurial spirit. I like that the early crowd is Latino locals, and that the later crowd (assumed) gets after bar crowd. It really services a wide San Francisco scene. Limited seats. Don't expect to sit down.

The Yucatán peninsula is very close to many Caribbean islands and also shares most of its border with Guatemala and Belize so there's a lot of Caribbean, Spanish and Mayan influence on its culture and food. Now normally you'd want to go to Yucatecan restaurants for food that's more unique to the region like Cochinita Pibil, Panuchos and Salbutes. This review is more about standard Mexican items though. I ordered Menudo, 2 Lengua tacos and a fresh orange juice for delivery. Menudo: 5/5 .. fresh pieces of honeycomb and blanket tripe and a right sized pata de res (foot with bone & gelatin) in a very flavorful and clearly long simmered broth. It's more red than usual perhaps because of the use of Achiote which is a red paste used primarily in the Yucatán. Interestingly it comes with chopped spring onions rather than chopped white onions which you normally expect / get. I thought it worked very well with the soup! Tacos: 4/5 .. the quality of the lengua was great but with street tacos each tortilla should have the right quantity of primary filling and essential garnish (cilantro, onions, salsa). The quantity of Lengua was at least double what it should be and there was an odd base of shredded cabbage. I feel like that is more appropriate in Baja with a fish taco. Anyway, they did send an excellent light Habanero salsa and I adjusted the amount of meat so all in all it was fine. Jugo Fresco de Natanhja: 5/5 .. very fresh OJ as good as it gets for $6.. would pay $10 at most juice places. Definitely planning to ltry the truly Yucatán dishes next time.
