My first initial impression when arriving to the resort was "wow this is awesome". Until we walk in. We were not greeted and check in took awhile. The lobby near the reception desk was hot. The decor, and ambience however was great. We stayed at the resort for 5 days. Commuting to and from the room was a hassle because the elevators were out of commission. As far as the room, it was outdated and mattresses were stained and dirty. The toilet made a loud screeching noise after each flush and our room was not serviced after each night. The food and bars were great and the view from the room and main pool were breathtaking. I had high expectations for this resort as this was my second time visiting Cancun but I'd respectfully say I will not return to this particular resort. read more

I came here for my cousins wedding, it was beautiful! Everyone working on this resort was SUPER nice! The food was delicious, from the buffet to the restaurants you had to make reservations. Drinks were strong and the fresh made juices were amazing! The pool areas were kept clean and and the room services (including cleaning) were top notch! I will definitely be coming back! read more

Beware of Iberostar Selection Resort in Cancun, Roo Mexico 1. My luggage was lost for hours, by the resort staff. 2. When I was giving my room it wasn't ready. No linen on the beds, the patio doors were open and no towels. 3. The very next day an employee tried to enter my room from the adjoining room. When that wasn't successful he opened my locked door (with his key card) and tried removing the chain I had on the door. Was he trying to RAPE ME, ROB ME or KILL ME???? 4. The Public Relations staff at the resort felt that paying for a massage was compensation enough for the incident. The P.R. manager Laura lacked empathy and was very nasty and rude. I wasn't even offered a new room. 5. Even with my key card away from my phone, I had to get it reactivated just about everyday. 6. The last night of my stay, when I returned to my room the power was off..... ? Was this retaliation for my many complaints? Stay safe when traveling to this resort it's not safe, especially for single read more

I just got back from staying at Iberostar Cancun for a week. Here is how I would break down the place.... The buffet food - I would give it ONE star. I'm not a big buffet person but I've been to so many buffets before both in hotels, restaurants, cruises...this is probably one of the poorest ones. Their breakfast buffet was fine. You can't go wrong with fruit, pastries, and a station making omelets and a juice bar. The lunch and dinner buffet food needs improvement. There were some exceptional wait staff at the buffet restaurant. Pleasant and attentive. The restaurant on site food - I would give them 3 stars. The steakhouse somehow managed to not put on the AC and we were sweating while eating. You can ask for chicken finger and fries for the kids - it's like a secret knowledge because they don't have it on the menu nor do the waiters offer you this info. The Hibachi restaurant took forever to get our food. Out 6:30pm reservation turned out the kids didn't get to eat till 8pm. The chef flung his cooking utensil in an attempt to perform and ended up shattering my husbands glass and breaking his plate. Thank god the glass didn't hit my 2 year old. By 830pm still no sign of my food. Surprise! The waiter forgot it. The French restaurant I heard from my cousin was disappointing. The Mexican buffet restaurant I heard was descent. You would need to make rsvp in advance to get a table. We did it 2 weeks prior to our trip. Thank God someone responded to my cousin's emails because all 5 of my attempts to make rsvp were never answered. Email customer service gets a ONE star. The check in counter had the best person working there - Ana. I would give her 5 stars. She was pleasant and even made it a point to memorize our children's name so that she said hi everyday to them. Now that is awesome. Their pools were plenty. I would give it a 4. I found stuff in the pool that I had stepped on. It could have been 5 degrees warmer. The kids were freezing and only wanted to stay in the luke warm hot tub. Which that looked questionable. The water was a nice murky color during the middle of the day. They had a children's pirate ship pool with slides. Great if the water was warm for the little ones. They even had little kids lounge chairs. Super cute. Forget about getting food service by the pool. One waitress to get your drinks and you had to walk to get food - hamburger, French fries, and hotdogs. Don't lose your pool towels! The beach is just a step away. Plenty of chairs to lounge on. Waves were rough so the red flag was out often. The kid's club was small with limited things for the kids to play with. Closes at 5pm. We had an amazing view of the ocean, but the AC was barely breathing on us. I had to complain 4x before they lowered the ac for us. Maybe because our room constantly got sunlight that it couldn't cool down? The cleaning service was fine. The tubs need a better design. The shower head was so close to the wall I was standing up against the drain and wall to shower. And all the water kept pouring out of the tub. Maybe the glass partition needed to be longer, or use shower curtains. The site says this is 5 star hotel...compared to my past experience this isn't a 5 star at all. Maybe a 3.5 star hotel. read more

We had a great stay. It was relaxing and fun. Wonderful location. Excellent grounds with multiple pools. I can't say enough about the staff. They were polite, friendly and very helpful. Ask any question and they literally go out of their way to help you. The breakfast buffet is the outstanding meal. Great offerings. We really took to the consistently delicious mango, the sweet watermelon and the many times tasty papaya. The pears were good. Coffee is outstanding. Really delicious. Omelettes were well made to order. We loved the yogurt. Used to nonfat yogurt, we found it fun to eat really good whole milk yogurt. Lots of breads and plenty of breakfast meats. The other meals were consistently better at the buffet than at the restaurants. . Lots of good salad fixings. I loved the chocolate cake. What was really outstanding was the non sweet melted chocolate that you pour over strawberries. Amazing! We found the Mexican, American and Hibachi restaurants highly disappointing. We left hungry and very dissatisfied after eating at these three. The Steak and the Italian restaurants were good. Be on time to the dot at your dinner reservations. A few times we were 5-10 minutes behind and it took a bit of conversation to be let in. There are a number of issues at this hotel, starting with their registration processes and software. The systems don't talk with each other. It took over an hour to register! It was no fault of the hard working and kind employees. It took a very long time for the software to go through each step. One restaurant had us reserved an hour later than we had an email confirmation for. The place was empty with 3 out of 20 tables filled and they said they said that they could not seat us! Really bizarre. They eventually did. Another systems issue. Reserving restaurants could be automated. I eventually found the email to request reservations. TripAdvisor won't let me share emails. (Note that The email starts with "CUNTP1"). I was told that reservations are made on a weekly basis. I had to wait another day to out on requests for Monday through Thursday. I sent the email with no response. I have since learned that you can do so using the hotel app. On our last day of vacation we had to spend 1 1/2 hours indoors on a physical line to sign up for Covid tests, and then 40 minutes to take the tests in a mad scramble. The person in charge is hard working. They could use more staff and more basically have a simple online process to register. Consider the person who pays to stay in this lovely outdoor setting has to be indoors in a prehistoric process on their last day of vacation. Be sure to download the results of the test to your phone while you have access to the hotel WiFi. We went through some drama at the airport because we initially could not download the attachment until someone shared their WiFi from their phone! The room was OK. Definitely time for renovation, not just a paint job, We had to call three times over 40 minutes while our toilet was flooding before someone showed up. The coffee maker has a hole that leaked water the one time we tried to use it. The TV is on its last legs. Many times I had to turn it in and off to get a picture. The speakers had a grating sound. (One good thing about the TV is the BBC channel for news.) Not sure why this happened but our phones lost power more quickly at the hotel than usual. Might be the WiFi? I envisioned swimming in the ocean every day. I found the water a little unsteady and the undertow rough. (It is beautiful to walk on the beach as the sun rises.) Enough of the complaints. We had a great time. It is a relaxing setting. The staff are great, and lots of them. We saw many couples, groups of friends and young families having a lovely relaxing time. We met people from all over the world. This was our first visit to the Caribbean and our first to an all inclusive resort. We booked through Expedia, ultimately paying $250 USD a night for two of us and $220 a night for a room with an ocean view for a single family member. One of the ironies of so many helpful staff all working as a team and not hustling for tips is that it was not always easy to single out someone for tipping, with the exception of course of the sit down restaurants and room cleaning staff. Occasionally a waitress at breakfast would be focused on our area and we would reward her. From TripAdvisor I have heard people recommending $5 USD for sit down meals. We used USA Transfers for the rides from and to the airport ($65 USD round trip.) The reservation process was easy. The drivers were professional and courteous. The pickup at the airport was over 30 minutes late. They gave us the excuse of "traffic" as if they have never driven there before. read more

The stay was terrible! We were stuck in a power outage for a few hours at NIGHT. It started around 12 am and the power came back on at around 3 am. The whole resort was very hot since the air conditioner was not working. I had to walk down the stair case just to go outside in the pool. My grandparents were on a very high floor and it would take forever for them to walk down the stairs. I would recommend getting a room closer to the bottom if this situation happens again. BUT if you go too close to the bottom floors you will see lizards and creatures on your floor. The AC is terrible at night when the power is on. It would turn on and off randomly which is very annoying and hot. The rooms wouldn't even close all the way. We order room services for room cleaning and the cleaner left our room unlocked and open for many hours at NIGHT. I called the room service many times for a cleaning but the lady at front desk kept saying that they will send someone up but no one goes up. I requested towels and shaving kit but still no one comes up. The next day we ate breakfast and went to an excursion and when we came back the room services cleaner did not clean our room. We paid for the resort and still we can't get the bare minimum. Half the family also got FOOD POISONING from the resort. This has to he a very bad resort to book. read more

A relative was renewing her vows and gave us a year notice with travel arrangements. She chose this as her hotel accommodations. We were a large party; I believe a minimum of 30 guests. Upon arrive we were in a coach bus and notice how beautiful and big this resort was. We were dropped off in front of the hotel at 6:30am and walked over to the concierge to check it. It went somewhat quickly since it was so early in the morning. Our check in wasn't until 3pm, so we somewhat panicked because we didn't know what we were going to do for the remainder of the time. They welcomed us with fresh juice and assured us that our luggage's would be kept safe in the front and that the buffet was open if in case we were hungry. Mind you we were more tired than anything because of a red eye flight. We quickly changed in our bathing suits, had breakfast at the buffet, and went to the beach then pool. Mind you from the entrance of the hotel to the beach is about a mile, it's a lot of walking but the resort is amazingly beautiful that it doesn't matter, it seems like you're in Bora Bora. Buffet are decent, they have a large variety of different kinds of foods to choose from. Everything is included breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, even alcoholic beverages. Also the food at the pool, beaches, and even room service are included! For what you pay for this is an amazing deal. They also have five star restaurants, however make note you must make reservations. I highly highly recommend you try all of them, they are amazing! Once we arrived to our rooms, we noticed how clean and beautiful they were with a great balcony and view. Every day they made sure that our rooms were above and beyond clean. (I have to add that my christian dior glasses where missing and the last place I saw them were in my room, I have to be completely honest!) Staff: Every and I mean everyone went out of their way to make sure guest were comfortable and have a great time. I really recommend this hotel and enjoyed my stay here. read more

My boyfriend and I recently stayed at this hotel for about four nights in early September. This was our first trip to Cancun so we did some research prior to make sure we picked a nice hotel. Upon arrival we had to wait for our room to be ready at around 1:00 pm but were welcomed to grab a drink at the bar or some food from the buffet. Everyone throughout our stay was very friendly and helpful. Majority of the staff was very fluent in English and helped us to book our tickets to Xplor as well as get taxis. Excellent service for sure! Room wise we stayed in a standard ocean side room. There wasn't really anything spectacular about the room, but it did include a safe and mini fridge which were nice additions. The one downside to the room was the almost daily construction that seemed to be nonstop all day long. Not a great time after a day full of day drinking. As for the food options they had two buffets which did not require reservations at all. The food options seemed to be about the same day to day, but there were quite a few selections to choose from. There's also four other nicer restaurants that required a reservation- a steakhouse, hibachi Japanese, French and Mexican. We tried the steakhouse and hibachi while we were there. I personally was not a fan of the steakhouse and felt the steak was very bland. The hibachi was my favorite and pretty standard to the typical hibachi experience. Overall I'm glad we stayed at Iberostar and we had a great time during our stay. I'd definitely recommend staying here as a couple or with a family. read more

The resort was awful. The service was terrible and piss poor. The mini bar in our room barely had anything for us and very little selection. Choosing reservations for dinner was horrible. It was a painstaking process and we never got to eat where we wanted. Their system is poorly designed and extremely difficult to eat where you want, so you end up at their buffet for dinner. I went July 2nd-4th. I had gotten severely ill from the resort days after I got home in the states, my girlfriend ended up getting covid. Lastly, we got severely overcharged for our stay. I was never told we had to pay on the website before visiting. So in order to stay the 2 nights I wanted, I had to pay an extra 300 to stay or leave at 6am for a flight the next day. This place is terrible, I'd never recommend it and I never ever plan to go back. read more

My family stayed in Iberostar in October 2018. In this hotel smokers can smoke everywhere, in the entry to the restaurant buffet, in the entry to the lobby, on the each floor, in the pool. This is kids friendly hotel but they have to breathe the smoke. Cigarette's butts are everywhere. So as kids could play sand on the beach, first, you have to clean it from cigarette's butts. The food was the same everyday although they named each day with different country names. Most of the food was super salted and spoiled. My family got sick by the end of the week. We all suffered from stomach ache. I am 7 months pregnant and I got poisoned by the end of our vacation and have to go to emergency. Our balcony were faced to the construction and they worked at night and we couldn't sleep. By itself the hotel is ok, not super clean and brand new but it's ok. We won't comeback and recommend this hotel. This is the worst vacation we have ever had. read more

Iberostar Selection Cancún - "Fresh" guacamole every day! But people eat that.... - Hotels Near Me - Cancún, ROO

We stopped by Iberostar to visit some friends who were guests at the resort. It was late on a Sunday night and we would need to commute home, so we were hoping to just grab a quick beer to say hi and catch up with them. From the moment we arrived, we were treated as nothing more than walking dollar signs. First, we were told that we would not be allowed to enter the resort unless we booked a room for the night. When we were finally allowed past security to meet our friends in the lobby, we were informed that we would not be able to enter our friends' room. The only way to access any bar in the hotel would be to pay $120 per person for an evening pass to the resort. If we wanted to take a taxi, there was a wings and beer spot 15 minutes away (this option obviously did not appeal to our friends who had already paid exorbitantly for an all-inclusive stay). If the experience were truly so tremendous, I would happily have paid $20 for a beer. However, I was not in a mood to drop $120 for one beer on a Sunday night. When it became clear that we were not going to spend any money, the staff insisted that we leave the resort immediately. We were standing at the information desk, which was located directly behind the lobby and we were perfectly willing to walk back across the lobby to leave. Instead, security insisted upon escorting us in a golf cart across the resort and dropping us directly at the taxi stand, as though we were common criminals. Given their extreme urgency, we were not allowed any time to say goodbye to our friends. This was especially upsetting to me since I am proficient in Spanish and I made a good faith effort to communicate with the staff respectfully in their native language. This brings me to a few wider points about Cancun as a destination, compared to other nearby options: "All-inclusivity": If every resort in Cancun behaves in the manner of Iberostar, guests are essentially confined to stay, eat, and drink exclusively within the confines of a single resort. By contrast, nearby Isla Mujeres and Playa del Carmen both offer a wide assortment of cultural and culinary experiences, at a far lower cost, with beautiful beaches. Exclusivity: If you are a narcist and want to feel like a celebrity inside a big, shiny resort your friends can't enter, Cancun might be the place for you. I can't argue with that. Cost: A few hundred bucks per night might seem reasonable at first glance. However, when compared against the Airbnb we rented in Playa for just $60 per night (with a private swimming pool and several seating areas situated around beautiful tropical vegetation and a cute little turtle pond, just a few minutes walking distance from the beach) there is truly no value in booking a room at the resort. Safety: I understand those who watch a lot of TV might have seen one too many advertisements for Save the Children, and therefore have been led to believe that Mexico outside of the resort is but a sprawling gang-infested slum. However, from my personal experience, Isla Mujeres and Playa del Carmen are perfectly safe. We were not mugged, or assaulted, or ambushed by impoverished street children at any point during our trip. There were not even stray dogs roaming the streets in our neighborhood. Health: Some might be concerned about contracting food poisoning outside of the resorts. Take note though, that the restaurants in Playa del Carmen and Isla Mujeres are also well accustomed to serving tourists and they take care to ensure those customers continue to return. Even as a strict vegan, I found it very easy to eat there. We encountered a plethora of delicious local fare at a jaw-droppingly low price point. Culture: With all of its big, glittery, (and entirely culturally devoid) resorts, Cancun feels more like Las Vegas than Mexico. Isla Mujeres by contrast is filled with beautiful traditional architecture. Our hosts in Playa del Carmen were some of the kindest, most welcoming people I have encountered, and they were eager to share with us their culture. There was a feeling of warmth in every interaction we had with the Mexican people. (This experience was completely the opposite of Cancun, where everyone from the grocery store guard, to the taxi driver, to the Iberostar staff was rude and solely concerned with extracting money from us). Prior to our experience at Iberostar, we had planned on staying for a long weekend at a resort in Cancun and we were even considering Iberostar. Sufficive to say, they have lost our business. read more

I have been here several times and every time has been better than the last. All inclusive resort with so much to do. Everything went well on our vacation and the staff was super nice and everything was very clean. Did not have a single thing to complain about. I had an absolute blast at Iberostar July 5-9, 2019!!! From the welcoming to the rooms to the food to the pools to the entertainment, everything was amazing!!! I'll never forget my stay here, and absolutely do not have the heart to return home and resume normal life :(. I want to give a special shout-out to the following Iberostar employees who especially made this stay such a great experience: Juan (animation team; from the first day to the last, was so welcoming and an absolute joy to be around), Andres (animation team), Jimena (concierge), Adriana (front desk), Edgar (lobby bartender), Roberto (restaurant host) Francisco (guest services), Jay (guest services/relations), Angel (lobby bartender), Eytel (pool bartender), Claudia (restaurant hostess), and Veronica (lobby/sportsbar bartender). we've stayed at Iberostar at this location before so we stayed again knowing it was safe, fun, and enjoyable. my husband has always compared hotel staff to the wonderful staff at Iberostar from our first stay, theyve become his marker for quality hotel interactions. there was one staff member who went above and beyond and absolutely blew us away this stay though. Irving was our server in the buffet one morning early on in our 8 night stay. his service was impeccable, from his bright and cheery demeanor to his ability to be right there any time we needed literally anything. for the next several mornings until we left we asked to sit with him at breakfast and he continued to impress and take care of us with more than just service. his company and conversation added to our experience each and every time. take care of him, he's a difficult to find diamond in the rough! read more

This place was awesome! From the people, to the view, the service and location. Everyone is super nice and genuine, all they want to do is make sure your optimizing your time to having the most possible fun! I wound use this chain hotel again in another country after my wonderful experience in Cancun. The only thing that I wish could have been better was the meals that they provide for the guest. Kind of seems like all grade B meat. You can't go wrong with any of the chicken meals. Drinks are good and they do have premium liquor. The landscape was always kept tight and neat! They had people continuously on the grounds make sure everything was in its place and clean. Room service is another great service that they provide. And it's very quick. read more

There hotel is ok. Inside it's a little outdated, outside is very good, but the food disgusting. The food is a big portion of vacation since you eat it at least 3 days per day. The food was almost the same for dinner and lunch every single day. Most of the food was not tasty at all. Everything was very salted and sometimes spoiled, so you have to be careful and check what you eat. My family got poisoned one day and after that we only could eat plain rise, which was like a delicious after a week on salty meals. Smokers is another big problem. If you are not smoker or traveling with kids last thing you want to have is smokers around... Unfortunately, there was no restriction where people can smoke everywhere, so you will enjoy tobacco next to the entrance: lobby, buffet, in the pool, next to the pool, on the beach... Definitely not recommend. read more

Came here in December 2020 for our babymoon vacation for 7 days. Lets start with food, the food at the buffet is repetitive and not good. I only liked breakfast, they had a good variety of eggs, pancakes, waffles, oatmeal and cereal. Even though the options were the same every day, I didn't mind eating omlettes and pancakes every morning. But the lunch & dinner I couldn't eat the same thing every day. It was always the same exact thing every single day. They kept everything from lunch to serve at dinner. I never felt truly satisfied or full at the buffet here. Only at breakfast did I feel full. Thankfully, they had restaurants. We always made dinner reservations at restaurants because the buffet was simply disgusting and repetitive. The restaraunts were actually super delicious! The steak house was sooo amazing, the hibachi show was also super good and filling, and the italian was really good! And also they had hotdogs on the beach, so instead of lunch at the buffet we would just eat hotdogs. They tasted better than anything at the buffet. Onto hotel itself, the jacuzzi pools outside were not even hot. They were actually not even warm, just a little warmer than pools. They didn't work and didn't turn on which sucked. The entertainment here also isn't the best. We got bored here really fast. After day 2 I was ready to go home. I've been to better resorts, don't think I will ever go back here! read more

Beautiful resort. The staff is absolutely top notch. The food is okay. The rooms are gorgeous! The one and only concern was their treatment of the eagles and hawk that they place on display. The put helmets on them so they can't see - it is absolutely cruel and unnecessary. It needs to be stopped asap. read more

This is a really hard review to write, so I have broken up the key decision making points: - Resort environment/cleanliness: 10/10 - Resort entertainment (activities and shows): 10/10 - Room cleanliness and overall maid service: 10/10 - Food: 2/10 So expanding on food.... Breakfast and lunch are essentially buffet only which I didn't realize prior to going. Yes, it's a giant buffet with tons of options but I don't like a buffet in general and of course the food isn't hot enough/cold enough. There are two grill's with small menus but no nice sit down ala carte options. Habachi is fun and was edible. Steakhouse was horrible; the steaks are all flank in various sizes and the sides are old, cold, gross, and flavorless. The Caesar was edible but small and overdressed. Zero salt and pepper. The Italian restaurant is probably the worst meal I have ever had, absolutely inedible. The speciality shrimp entree at the Mexican restaurant was the only saving grace. This resort taught me that apparently I need to bring my own salt, pepper, hot sauce, salsa (and microwave) to Mexico with me. Overall, food is important to me and I would never visit again. But if food isn't what you care about, then this place might be perfect for you. Huge shoutouts to: Entertainment team including: Alexey, Jaime, & Adrian Habachi chef: Esteban Pool bartenders: Santos read more

Do. Not. Stay. Here. We spent way too much money to be here and it feels like I'm at a motel 6 in the USA. We booked a king size bed and when we checked in they told us we had 2 twin size. They ended up doing us a "favor" and gave us what we paid for. As soon as we got to our room it was gross. We attempted to shower and the drain was clogged. We went down to the lobby to get someone to come and fix it and we were told they could come right away. Over 16 hours later, no one still came. We ended up having to clean the shower drain ourselves and it was beyond disgusting. Also immediately when we checked in we were swooped in to take their timeshare type concept. The 1 1/2 hour tour ended up being 2 1/2 hours and when we said we weren't interested, they were very rude and practically rushed us out the door. The pictures online were very deceiving on what we actually got. The place is under construction, the jacuzzi feels like a cold bath, the tile is broken in the room and even though you think you are paying for "all inclusive" there are so many restrictions. We stayed for 6 nights (7 days) and we were only allowed 3 dinner restaurant reservations. Also we had to go to the lobby countless times because our room key kept becoming inoperable. I could go on and on but at the end of the day, their management doesn't care about their customers/ guests. read more

Our initial experience at the property was great. We particularly enjoyed the pool, restaurants, beach, and most of the staff. However, our enjoyment quickly ended after realizing we had been robbed by a staff member at the resort. My wife and I brought a few hundred US dollars in 1's and 5's to tip the staff and some 20's to purchase other merchandise and excursions. We checked in on 11/5 and upon reaching our room we realized our in-room safe was not working. We reported this to someone down at the front desk area and then just went about our vacation hiding our money, passports, and wallets in our bags. On 11/6 we returned to the room from the beach. When I checked my bag where I hid my money I thought the money I brought seemed a little "light" as we had only been there a day and spent very little. I didn't really think too much about it but we notated exactly how much money we had. The safe was still not functioning at this point. On 11/7 we again returned to the room late afternoon and upon checking our bags immediately noticed missing $20 bills and realized at least $190 US was undoubtedly stolen between both of us. No other valuables were missing like computers, tablets, phones, passports, jewelry, etc....just the money. It appeared who ever was stealing the money was taking a little bit at a time over those 2 days hoping we would not notice. They did not take all of our money just at least the $190. We immediately reported the theft to security. Security then proceeded to come up to our room and conduct a search. Attached are pics of security turning our room upside down and going through all of our belongings making sure we didn't "misplace" the money somewhere. Evidently this is protocol. They finally fixed the safe. All of our valuables were kept in the safe for the remainder of the trip. As you can imagine my pregnant wife and I feel violated. I mean if we had been robbed on the streets of Cancun or on the public beach that is one thing. But being robbed in the security of your own private room inside of a secure 5 star hotel just felt extra repulsive. This has never happened to us in our 20 years traveling all over the Caribbean and I never would have expected this at a resort with such a good reputation. For the rest of the trip every day at the pool we just figured someone was up in our room during the day rifling through our belongings. This is even more disgusting with the Covid 19 pandemic. The last thing we want is someones dirty hands all over our belongings. In full disclosure, I did meet with the manager. He informed me after reviewing security footage and key card entry the only other person in our room was the housekeeping. If this is in fact true it had to be the housekeeper. However, he went on and on about what a great long term employee they were and said he can't admit guilt. I guess I understand that since I wouldn't expect the housekeeper to admit what they did. He did reimburse us for the money loss since they confirmed our safe was not working. Why was the safe not immediately fixed? Shouldn't house keeping report a broken safe when making up room before a new guest checks in? It seems suspicious safe was not working when initially getting to room. One would think this would be a top security priority. If you take the risk of staying here remember these 2 things. 1. Do not even for 1 second leave your room without all of your valuables unless they are secured in your working safe and even with safe bring as little money and things of value as possible. 2. Be ok with knowing even with your working safe that everyday when you are out by the pool or beach someone is very likely in your room rifling through all of your belongings. Do a key word search theft/rob/stolen on tripadvisor and you will see this is a reoccurring theme at this place from other guests. read more

I care about the well being of animals, I don't think wild animals should be held captive especially in dire conditions. I spotted some type of falcon and noticed he was tied down by his leg. I asked the groundskeeper a few questions and found out it would be there several hours (at least 6) before it was untied, probably into a cage somewhere. The groundskeeper, "Diego Emilio" gave me a horrible attitude and said he was also tied down because he had to come to work. My new home away from home. We have traveled several times to Cancun and we have stayed in different places. This place has really changed the way I look at hotels. By far one of my best experiences I have ever had. All of the staff was super friendly for the first time I got to meet a chef in one of these restaurants. Chef Luis would be on the floor marking sure all was good. He took the time to get to know us and by the end of the trip I felt like we have known each other our entire life. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious. The room service was perfect. Plenty of pools to swim. Activities for the children, children's swim area. Just an overall beautiful experience a definitely must see!!! read more

I'm not even sure where to begin with this. My partner and I visited this hotel in January of this year with a group of friends and the amount of unprofessionalism was astounding. From the immediate interaction with staff and having them push a time-share onto us, quite aggressively, to telling the restaurant waiter that I was allergic to shrimp and having him bring out a shrimp dish for me, to slipping in the lobby and landing on my back and having the staff just stare blanky without asking if everything was okay/if i needed anything, you can guarantee that we will never visit another Iberostar location after this. The most disturbing part was that a guy by the name of Ricardo (staff member who was trying to sell us a cocktail-making class) was saying blatantly racist comments to our friends, including pulling his eye lids apart to mock one of our friends, saying "oh you're Asian, i can tell". After disclosing all of this to the staff, someone has still yet to contact us, even though we were told we would hear back in 48 hours. Completely horrible experience and Ricardo needs to be fired and reprimanded for his actions. Also, looks like the review we wrote on their website didn't get published, how convenient. read more

Don't expect the resort will care in any way about your injury, no matter it's their or your fault. If you need medical attention, try to avoid the doctor on site, if you absolutely have to see that doctor, DO NOT take the "ambulance," even if they tell you it's free or it's fantastic.  I traveled with my husband and baby to Iberostar Cancun Selection resort, and my husband had an accident in the pool, his face was bleeding like crazy. Here's what happened next: 1. The resort lifeguards didn't react when I screamed for help in English, they finally came to us after another guest shouted to them in Spanish; 2. The staff from guest service arrived at the scene and while my husband was covered with blood and I was holding the baby, the first thing he said to me was: Miss, you need to fill this report.  I told him that I couldn't do this right now but I left my room number and asked him to contact me later when my husband's injury would be controlled.  3. The staff finally took us to the resort doctor, and the staff never contacted us again for when/where/how the incident happened.  4. The resort doctor checked my husband's wound, insurance card, and decided that we need an ambulance to the "hospital" and promised both hospital and ambulance will take our insurance. we asked him if it's more appropriate to take taxi since it's not life or death yet at that point. He insisted that the ambulance will be better. Under the stress, I felt that I had no choice but listening to the resort doctor. After all, he is the doctor that this reputable resort has. He escorted us to our hotel room and asked us to pay him $175 USD upfront, we paid in full. 5. The resort doctor texted the ambulance and escorted us downstairs to the "life support ambulance," which was a minivan without any visible medical equipment, the only person in that van was the driver. The driver could not speak English. Neither resort doctor nor the driver informed us where and how far the hospital was. 6. We arrived at the "Hospiten," and it appeared to be a prepaid hospital who did not work with any insurance and it required us to pay $2200 USD upfront for continuing treatment. The hospital asked us which resort we were from before giving us the quote for the treatment. 7. We did not have so much cash at hand, so we tried to exit the Hospiten for another hospital which was 300 meters away, but the ambulance driver stopped us (a small Asian woman with a 7-month old baby and bleeding husband), and asked me to fill around 10 pages of documents before we could go anywhere. 8. I stood there with my family and completed almost half of the documents in front of the Hospiten emergency entrance, my husband was fainting. I typed in English on the ambulance driver's google translator asking if he could take us there so that I can complete the paperwork in the car and my husband would have at least a place to sit. He refused, still wouldn't let us go. 9. I called an uber, left my room number and phone number to him, and I ran to the uber with my baby. My husband used body language to tell him to call us for the rest of the paperwork. The ambulance guy opened the Uber's passenger seat and used his body to physically stop the car from moving. I was scared, crying, worried about my husband. I begged the uber driver to tell the ambulance guy let us go to hospital first. The uber driver saw my husband's bleeding face and she told the ambulance driver to follow her car.  10. The ambulance guy finally let the uber go and followed us to another hospital. While we were waiting for the doctor, the ambulance guy finally got what he wanted.  I understand the resort doctor is independent contractor, the resort cannot control the ambulance that the onsite doctor contracted, and it's not resort's direct fault that we were physically stopped from getting medical attention by the ambulance driver. Besides taking us to the resort onsite doctor and started the whole nightmare, no one from the resort ever asked, "how can we help?" Until I came to them asking for accident report, no staff followed up with us about "when/where/how the accident happened." I am disappointed for the situation that Iberostar brought us into, and I am disappointed for how uncaring Iberostar was. read more

Stayed here for a week with my family to celebrate my parents 25th wedding anniversary. Hotel & decor: Elegant fixtures. Bright and spacious. Very attractive, no complaints here. Room: We booked a basic room which was decent, definitely in need of a face lift and some modernizing but sufficient. There's a terrace, work desk and a tub. Food: Fairly disappointed in the food. After about 3 days, everything started tasting the same in the buffet. Nothing really tasted fresh. However, I do recommend the steakhouse, Japanese and the French restaurants at night. The restaurant food is so much better than the food available at the buffet. There's also a 24 hour cafe adjacent to the main entrance which serves really good coffee. Legitimately taste like Starbucks. I would bet most people wouldn't tell the difference in a blind taste test. It's seriously that good. Entertainment & amenities: Clean gym with sufficient equipment and space. Spa with sauna and steam room available. Infinity pools are great with a full service bar in the middle. Beach beds are available on a first come first serve basis so make sure you go to the pool early to get a spot. Night shows are good, some are cheesy but some are very entertaining. Our favorites were the magic and the couples show. Staff: I'd really be giving this 3 stars if it wasn't for the staff. They're are EXCELLENT. You can really tell they genuinely enjoy their job and always try their best to make sure you are having a good time on your vacation. Overall, this resort is in the middle range in terms of pricing and with these resorts, you truly get what you pay for. read more

This is a scamster Resort Company. I booked and prepaid for a 5 night stay here via Expedia, obviously a very reputable company in the industry. We arrived, checked in, no problems. Day 2, we get a voice mail that Front Desk needed to see me. When i arrived, Silvia who was rude, said their Expedia paperwork shows that i have one infant and one child and that i needed to pay the difference. Bologna i told them. I showed them app and email confirmation info to the contrary. Told them to take it up with Expedia. She persisted and i walked away as they had no credit card on file. Flash forward to checkout morning. Emanuel, the tough guy, said that they got in touch with Expedia and it was an expedia error (all b.s. in my opinion). However, i had to pay difference and take it up with Expedia when i got home. After i went back and forth telling him what a absurd travesty this was and horrible customer service and ensured id never come back, i told him i aint paying jack and walked towards bell desk to catch my ride. Thats where security met me and told me if i wanted my bags and golf clubs and if i wanted to leave to airport, id better pay. The shakedown/extortion was in full effect. Sensing trouble and wanting to avoid a potential disaster, i went back to Emanuel the Tough Guy, paid the difference, didnt say a word and got the hell out of there. This is a unethical and shady if not illegal way to treat guests. I called my credit card company on way to airport and disputed it. They said its a Forced Sale by Threat and wouldnt even let it post. All a true story. Pool area and Golf Course are amazing and food for all inclusive is above average but here are other reasons why you shouldnt stay here: A.) Hand towels stained on arrival. B ) Dirty bed linens and sheet 2 out of 5 days C ) Slow to non-existent service by pool and beach and watered down drinks. D.) Lot of dry employees, not what we are used to in Cancun. E.) This is same company who was raided at their resort 30 miles away at Playa Paraiso for serving tainted alcohol that killed an American. We ll stick to Palace Resorts and hope others avoid this company. Theyre cheats. read more

I spent 5 nights at this place and on the very last night they had a karaoke theme. Great idea. My Amigo and I signed up to sing Dont Start Now by Dua Lipa very early in the night. Unfortunately another couple got to sing our song instead due to the lack of coordination between the dj, the host, the worker signing up the couples wanting to sing. Now we go back up and request a new song, Swest Caroline by Neil Diamond. Great song. Unfortunately we didn't get to sing that either due to a time shortage. I would recommend taking your karaoke talents elsewhere besides Iberostar in Cancún. read more

Want to start off by saying the beach was beautiful and the swim up bar was awesome. But this place had some of the worst management. Maids were taking pictures of our belongings, going through our things, and managers treated us like we weren't paying customers. Also you could tell the food was all inclusive and I would recommend staying here if you want to wake up drenched in sweat because the AC doesn't work. read more

Incredible entertainment staff (Osvaldo, Santiago, Gio, Hector, Beto, and Alex) and views. However, from the moment we arrived we were pushed into listening to various promotions after we specifically said we weren't interested. When we asked about the restaurants, we were told to download the app. My husband and I both received different information on our apps and multiple staff confirmed that the restaurants weren't open. When my husband approached a restaurant to ask their hours, the restaurant said they were open. My husband and I felt that we missed opportunities to try the different cuisines and amenities that the hotel had to offer. When we told staff at the lobby about the app not functioning, his response was "we'll it's mostly for the menu", which you should keep in mind that we were only able to see the menu to one restaurant. The majority of our stay we dined at the buffet (great servers). We weren't able to book restaurants from our app, like we were told to, after one booking, the app informed us we had "booked the max amount", so much for all-inclusive. This resulted in us having to book through the concierge and took 10+ mins. We booked a dinner at "La Horma" restaurant that was literally the worst Italian restaurant. The pasta dish sauce was watered down, calamari and octopus were so rubbery & impossible to chew. Hotel horrendous menu items include: the hamburgers (white meat, not cooked all the way) hot dogs (light bright pink and weird inside texture) and lastly their "chicken burger" didn't taste like chicken, "chicken" was rubbery. These poor-quality food items were also available throughout the day & were main menu items in the room service menu, a larger better quality food selection was needed, the room service took over 40 minutes to arrive & not worth the weight. Other negatives, being bothered constantly by other organizations asking to purchase a photo session or night clubbing at CocoBongo after telling them "no", multiple times. The swim up bar being closed, and being ignored by the pool waitress. The last straw, my husband and I finally decided to sleep in past 10 am (previously we woke up at 5am) and we were called on the phone at 8am to ask "is your AC working? while I have you on the line, will you be taking advantage of the spa promotion?"-which we know will result in a long informal session about becoming a member (obtaining a membership) and paying over $30,000. UPDATE: 9:03am SECOND phone call, are you interested in attending an activity. Today Sept 10, as always, we were ignored by the pool waitress. The waitress, Maria, after we had to follow her to take our order, takes it down and when she returned she brought everyone's drink back except for my husband and I. We felt discriminated because we were Mexican and everyone else who received their drinks, were not. During our stay, we have been respectful and have tipped everyone who has served us at the resort although we have noticed that not all guests do. Negatives, our house keeper did not knock before entering or asked if it was okay to enter while I was changing my swimsuit, I was undressed. On our first day, we looked at the mini-bar but we didn't drink anything from it. The following day we opened it to store a drink of ours and a bottle of beer had been taken. On our third day, we grabbed two sodas and those were not replaced by the housekeeper. Although housekeeping came every day to our room, the dirty cups (that we did not use, they were dirty when we arrived) were not replaced nor was our mirror cleaned. Bar issues: No bartender made the same drink, inconsistent. One day we were able to order a drink, the next they were out of squirt. No two bars had the same drinks or the same brand tequila. We're done and definitely WOULDN'T recommend Iberostar Cancún Selection to anyone. We previously stayed at Golden Parnassus, they treat you like family, yes, it's a smaller and less luxurious hotel but we 1,000% recommend it. read more

My husband and I went away for 4 nights and 5 days and we stayed here for our Cancun get away. A very much needed vacation for our quality time together and I couldn't be much happier! First off, I'm from the Orlando area and we are so used to being around a lot of people and tourists. I don't mind crowds but sometimes I do believe you need to get out of the norm and so this was exactly what we did. Visiting this resort this time of year avoided overcrowded swimming pools, hot tubs, and restaurants. So with traveling this time of year was perfect for us. We were greeted at the airport and picked up by another shuttle company recommended by our resort ($30). The drive from the airport was about 20 minutes or less. Immediately upon arrival I'm welcomed with the smell of their aroma therapy. It smells so amazing, I can't even describe it! The resort itself held a luxurious feel and also appeared that way. The check in desk was very professional and was informative and the lobby very Grand and luxurious. Check in was a breeze but slightly different than traveling nationally. Upon arrival we checked in using our passports and the front desk makes a copy. We were given an amazing price of $330 as a down payment (paid during our reservation months ago) and then $990 when we checked in. I would recommend paying using a credit card with low interest for foreign transaction fees. This is an All Inclusive 5 star resort so our price was amazing! They feature a complete full buffet, 4-5 gourmet restaurants, 24 hour room service, and several bars offering drinks and snacks and grilled items by the pools through out the day! Every room has 360 views of the beach and other waters and golf course views amongst several coconut trees! You're just steps away from the beach or infinity pool for adults. There is also a pool area and water play for children. Our room featured a view of the the beach with a king sized bed and a couch with a full size pull out in a living room setting with a full table, television, frig, 2 closests, and full bath. I highly recommend using the free safe to keep your wallet, $$, and jewelry in. They're service was amazing. Anytime we needed anything, we called the front desk and it was taken care of right away! I would definitely recommend this resort for families or couples on a budget who want to travel in luxury. I don't think I had enough time to enjoy everything but they feature, spas treatments, personal concierge service, there's also a business center, huge business hall and rooms for large parties, golf courses, massages on the beach amongst other things. Just go to the Iberostar website and check it out! read more

Omg this resort is AMAZING! Everything I've ever thought! Jaime in the hotel bar was the best!!! We will be back I promise.

I am writing this review more so as a way to warn those who may be considering staying here, rather than to deter those from booking. My intention is to make others mindful of instances that take place at this resort and consider a few things regarding security, the safety of your belongings, and the support you will receive from the resort when these things become an issue. A few weeks ago, I took a trip with my man to this resort. Finally excited to take a vacation post-covid craziness, it's clear to say our optimism was quite high. I had a fine time booking with the hotel but instantly realized communication with any form of customer service was probably going to be an issue before even arriving, however I gave them the benefit of the doubt and didn't make any cancellations for this trip. DAY 1- we head outside to enjoy the pool area. We take a quick dip in the pool and come back only to find our bags, clothes, and even our shoes have been stolen (how violating). My purse, all it's contents, our phones, everything is missing. The first day we spent a good portion of it making claims and checking in with lost and found to find our belongings. Day 2- our phones have been turned in apparently only because there was a passcode on them that could not be figured out, whoever turned in the phone must have had everything else, however nothing else was turned in and The hotel says they can not do much and can not pin point who turned in the phone to begin with, aka. They won't retrieve camera footage for us. Now that I am home I have been making claims with my credit card company to try and be compensated for the things that went missing. ( for this I need a copy of the claim from the hotel) after 7 days of calling the hotel, only to get hung up on. And 4 separate email exchanges. The hotel refuses to give me a copy of my claim because I got my phone back so they don't understand why I would want a copy of it, essentially assuming nothing else was valuable besides my phone. I'm starting to think this was an employee of the resort that stole our belongings because it wasn't until I asked for my claim that they went completely silent. I hope this is not the case, however I don't understand any other reason for the sudden lack of communication. Please think twice about your safety, and valuables before booking with this resort, I urge you to read other reviews and make an educated decision before falling victim to their actions too. read more

Nice all-inclusive resort. Low ratings had me worried but the resort was newly renovated, the staff was friendly and attentive, and the food was delicious. I'd stay there again for sure. read more

The room at the pyramid level was not what I expected. We got an ocean view room on the 3rd floor which had a decent view of the pool and the beach. When we checked in we weren't informed that there was a coral level which has better and cleaner rooms. We would've upgraded to coral level because the room we got in pyramid level wasn't the cleanest. The floor was sticky and dirty and seemed like it hadn't been deep cleaned for a very long time. We eventually found out about the coral level option when our friends told us that's where they were staying at. We asked if we could get upgraded for a fee. The front desk told us they will us know the next day but we never heard back from them about it. We didn't know about any of the events at the hotel. This information could've been given to us at checkin. The buffet had variety and we liked that we got the all inclusive deal to be able to try mostly everything. Some of the restaurants were not the best. We were also misinformed about the pool cabana rules. My boyfriend stopped by the front desk about the regular free cabanas and if we needed to reserve one or if the are first come first serve. The receptionist told us that they were first come first serve. Then after a few hours in our chosen cabana at the pool area a few employees came up to us telling us to move since our spot was already reserved by another group. We were unhappy with the misinformation. They shouldn't tell people it's first come first serve if people can reserve the cabanas ahead of time. Overall, we felt misinformed about many things. read more
