I'd give this a 4.7 overall. This was one of the best all inclusive hotels I've been to. It isn't as luxurious as others I've been to but it has a bunch of positives. First off, I love how they have your room key attached to your band so that you aren't ever having to look/remember to bring your key because it's always on you which makes it super easy and convenient. Wish every hotel did this. 2 - The food was truly exceptional and not average like most other places. It's not 5 star quality like at a true restaurant but very very good for it being an all inclusive. For dinner I had the Mediterranean, the seafood and tepanyaki. Seafood was my favorite and was surprised the lobster was pretty good size and the steak tasted great. It's not as perfect as if going to an upscale restaurant but still very very good. Mediterranean had great variety. For the tepanyaki I wish they'd remove the fruit, veggie and Philadelphia roll from their sushi lineup (if I want sushi I want some sort of fish/seafood as I'm sure others prob want too). Also wish I'd gotten a salad along with the soup. For breakfast always went to the buffet and has so many options without losing the quality aspect. Was pleasantly surprised because I'm not a huge fan of buffets typically. 3 - The people who work there are incredible and always greet you with a smile and truly look happy to be working at this resort. 4 - The pool area is incredibly large and have many options on where to go and the beach is good size also. (I was shocked how busy the beach got). In the pool area they constantly have activities for all ages. 5 - The shows at night were pretty good with my favorite being the 80s night singers (Adams groove was just ok and Caribbean wasn't as engaging cause all the lyrics were in Spanish). 6. The slide park is small but imo it's perfect and we had a lot of fun going down them. Didn't go down lazy river but loved that that option was available. 7. The gym not only has almost everything you need for a good workout but also offers multiple classes. I did the kickboxing one and loved it 8. Everything seemed very clean and was always seeing people making sure the premise looked nice. The overall value for the rooms was great but there are some things I hope they work on 1 - The water in the pool was ice cold! Not just cold. Ice cold. It def needs to be a little warmer. 2 - They have a water filtration system where you get your water from but if you want bottled water you can buy but they charge $12. There's no need to be price gouging a basic necessity because even though the filtration system works to make it clean it does have a slight taste to it 3 - The place is absolutely ginormous and wish they had better signs in the front because it's easy to get lost 4 - They put a 2 hour time limit if you check a ball out and find that kind of absurd. I don't wanna have to pay attention to what time it is if I'm out having fun 5 - The room service menu is very limited and definitely needs more options 6 -They have some $25 environmental tax have to pay on checkout. By far the best resort I have ever been to! It's like six resorts in one. So many great food options including hibachi and Italian. A coffee shop open any hour you need it. And gelato!!!! TL:DR - Had a great time at the Maya resort. Service was superb, food was decent but a bit lacking in the sit-down experiences in regards to food quality. Pools were refreshing and beach/pool bar service was great. Wish the entertainment were more Mexico/culture themed vs circus or Addams family, etc. Price gouging onsite was excessive. The rest of the story -- This was our second time ever going to Mexico and the first time to this area/region. On our first trip, we stayed on a much smaller resort, so this was quite a switch, because the Iberostar Paraiso Maya + adjoining resorts is HUGE. Although there were trams, we opted to walk most places and we averaged 18k-20k steps/day. The service was absolutely tremendous. Everyone seemed to go out of their way to make our stay enjoyable... just the little things... nearly every worker would say hi/hola as we passed in the hallways... from the landscapers and housekeepers to the concierge staff. The meals were on point. I will say that, overall, we preferred the buffets options vs the sit-down options. We did 4 sit-down meals during our stay -- L'Etoile (French - first come, first served), La Marina (Seafood - first come, first served), Olivetti (Italian - reservations required), La Geisha (hibachi Japanese - reservations required). Of those, I would say La Geisha was our favorite. The other options were good, but overall fell a bit short. The steaks were often undercooked related to request -- Ie: we would order as medium-well, but steak would be cooked as Rare to Medium rare at best. The rooms (Maya Junior Suite) were great and stayed very cool during the day with 2 ceiling fans and A/C. The pools were great and bar service was on point. The beach was overtaken by sargassum during our stay, but staff worked hard to try to clean it up, but it was just coming in such great quantities to stay ahead of. Nonetheless, the beach was fun to sit at and relax. Only 2 criticisms to address -- 1) the entertainment was sometimes lacking for cultural appeal. There was entertainment every night in the main theater, but of the 5 nights we were there, only one was more of a cultural experience. The others were a Circus-theme, Addams Groove Experience. Those ones were, at best, ok. But we did thoroughly enjoy the Mexico-themed performance. 2) The price-gouging in the onsite shops is extreme. A few examples : $45+ usd for a bottle of regular-sized, Banana Boat sunscreen spray. $50+ usd for a cheapo, waterproof phone pouch, $30+ usd for pepto-bismol. I understand that resorts will scale up their pricing for the convenience, but that level of price gouging for simple items seemed excessive. read more

Wow--what an unforgettable experience from start to finish! From the moment we were picked up at the airport to our drop-off at the end of the trip, everything was seamless. The staff at Iberostar were incredibly accommodating and genuinely eager to meet our every need. We enjoyed delicious meals at a variety of on-site restaurants, each offering something unique. The entire resort was spotless, and our room--with its peaceful balcony--was the perfect place to unwind and relax. While the pool could've been a bit cleaner, it wasn't off-putting--just a natural result of being such a large, well-used space. They offer a wide range of amenities, including a wave pool, lazy river, slides, a kiddie water park, a golf course, a spa with a hydro pool, an air gun shooting range, an archery range, and more. They also host live shows at night. There are also places to make reservations for dinner, ranging from semi-formal to a hard-to-get Steakhouse. However, there are a few drawbacks. The wildlife can be a bit of a nuisance. There are coatis, iguanas, and raccoons roaming around, and I'm pretty sure most of them aren't aggressive, but raccoons are a different story. Also, the place is large, so it involves some walking to get to different areas. Carts are available, but you usually have to wait 5 to 10 minutes for one. I'm writing this to suggest improvements. The person who sell the membership was quite rude and made us feel uncomfortable. The food was also a bit salty most of the time. The place also needs more light at night. read more

This is a long one, please bear with me! We had a wonderful 9 day stay here with our family. This is an all inclusive hotel which included buffets, curated restaurants, taco shop, burger spots, Coffee shops, crepes & ice cream shops. * The stars of our stay had to be the staff! We had so many lovely encounters with many wonderful people. I want to thank Rodrigo in the prestige lounge for helping us get dinner reservations! Emmanuel from the prestige bar for keeping us hydrated during our entire trip. He even gave us a cocktail class which was so much fun! Rodolfo & Jose at the snake bar made us laugh multiple times and kept checking up on us to make throughout the night. Santiago at the members pool bar was such a blast, literally made the best drinks to keep us cool! He made us so many colorful shots and kept us entertained. On our last night we met Isaias, he went out of his way to make sure we were good. My mom wasn't feeling well and he somehow managed to get us a chicken noodle soup for her. He was one of the best hostess we had! Last but not least the lovely staff at the buffet & restaurants Rodrigo, Adrian, and Lourdes! * Let's talk about the food, There was a wide variety of food selections during dinner. For breakfast and lunch you are a bit limited to whichever buffet is open in your resort. I will say the buffet options were just okay, the food got a bit repetitive. The curated restaurants did offer new items that couldn't be found at the buffets but a lot of their sides seemed like they came from the buffet. However, for an all inclusive that is to be expected! *They also have plenty of pools available as well as water slides, a wave pool and a lazy river which are perfect for family's with small children. One key thing to note, if you are expecting cold pools the riviera maya isn't the place to go. They do their best to try to keep the pools cold but because of the direct sunlight the pools will be warm, some may even be hot. * Now the room itself, we had a suite which was spacious with a kind size bed! The bathroom was big with a stand in shower and a jacuzzi tub. The rooms are kept at 22C but we had to ask for ours to be dropped as the room was still a bit too warm! Housekeeping came every day and kept everything nice and tidy! * During our trip we did run into some slight issues that were resolved quickly! Our safe died on us and we couldn't get it open, our door batteries also died on us but security did come quick for both and helped us out. * overall if you are a member at any level of the iberostar family you will have a wonderful time! This is because they are quicker to offer you reservations for dinner as well as other perks like massages and better alcohol at the bars. Now if you are not a member or not looking to become one, you might be better off coming during the slower seasons. read more

Everything about this resort is wonderful. The ocean is full of sargassum, but employees are trying their best to remove it from the ocean. Good news is that there are plenty of pools to cool off, and the restaurants are cool too. The food is delicious in every way! I love how they pay extra attention to conservancy and eco-friendly practices. They're even not serving any lobster for a few months because this is mating season. If you come here and are unhappy, I just don't know what to tell you. Can't wait to start saving up to try the new Iberostar resort opening in Brazil! The buildings are nice but the food it not good. Many of the drinks were undrinkable. I just wanted to sip Lina coladas in the beach but the pina coladas were TERRIBLE. I could bring myself to take more than 4 sips. The burger bar on the beach is not good at all. My whole family ended up getting sick. We went to the lobby shop to get Imodium but they wanted to charge $36 usd for 8 tablets. The beach is nice and so is the pool. There are a number of large rocks in the beach where we kept banging our toes but nothing sharp that cut us. We had some good times but overall it wasn't a fantastic experience. read more

The food was pretty awful (what Mexican resort doesn't offer freshly mashed avocados for the guacamole?), drinks were just not good (including the filtered water), and the amenities and staff were disappointing. The staff members were ALWAYS on their phones, front desk staff were unfriendly, same with the pool bartenders. Our room was extremely humid & hot (bedding and towels felt WET the entire time). The napkins and bedding had stains on them - multiple occurrences. The furniture just seemed cheap and the hotel needs major upgrading. There were some pretty views and the beachfront was beautiful. After recently returning from a vacation with a group of family and friends, I feel compelled to warn others against staying at the Iberostar Selection Paraiso Maya Suites. My family and friends gather once a year in the summer to travel since the kids are out of school, and this year, we decided to stay at this hotel. Unfortunately, there were several issues we encountered during our stay. Upon arrival, we were placed on the third floor of a building with a broken elevator, which was a significant issue for my 1-year-old and 3-year-old who require a stroller. We were not notified of the broken elevator until we were already on our way to our room, and it was inconvenient to carry the stroller up and down the stairs multiple times a day. I paid extra to stay next to the pool, but the room with the broken elevator was the only one available, so we were given that instead. When I requested that we be moved to a ground floor room, the hotel refused, and the only available rooms had one bed or required an additional fee, which was not my mistake. After a frustrating conversation with the hotel, they finally offered us a room that we could move into at 2 pm, which we were promised was a poolside room; however, once we moved, it was much further away from the pool. In addition, the room we were originally given had a bug infestation on all surfaces, and even after I cleaned them with disinfecting wipes, they reappeared within a few hours. The air conditioning in both rooms was also inadequate. The hotel advertises multiple dining options, but we found that reservations were rarely available unless we agreed to a long timeshare presentation. The hotel and rooms were also extremely outdated and in dire need of renovations. I do not recommend this hotel to others. read more

FALSE ADVERTISING. We came here for a family vacation. Their website advertised that star camp is available for children 3 and under with supervision. They don't have any time restrictions posted or more details regarding the limits. They posted a nice indoor playground and outdoor on their website. We're here now and they are telling us that these are only available for kids 3 and under from 12pm-1pm. They have the kangaroo room which is a room with no air conditioning filled with some target toys for kids way younger. The staff won't give a suitable solution or refund us for the next two nights so we can move to child friendly resort. It's too hot to be out in the pool all day or ise the outdoor playgrounds. read more

My husband and I have made a total of 4 trips to Iberostar, with 3 being at the Maya.... so, I am saddened to see the negative reviews. Although, I can kinda see why. I haven't had anything but positive experiences with this resort, especially this last visit. This resort is so very clean, ALL THE TIME... and man does it smell GREAT. They are actively renovating and updating the rooms, and streamlining entry. This resort has a total of 5 hotels, with each having their own level... as you pay to level up, you have the luxury of enjoying your amenities and the hotels on 'lower levels'. And the staff are SO very helpful and accommodating, and so very pleasant. The only issue I have come across is they are forever trying to sell you their version of a time share -- that's VERY annoying. There's food available ALL time time as well -- whether it be buffet, 'stands' on the beach, served dinners, or room service. And the food is actually good! Amazing cuts of meats, sushi, and fresh fruits --- and as much alcohol you can consume. What my husband and I witnessed this time, was (presumed) quality control -- we were sitting near the main bar when we saw a staff member testing the cleanliness of selected glasses, bar spoons, and accessories. Very impressive. They are also working towards preserving the mangroves and moving towards making everything compostable. I am excited to see additional upgrades over the years as we will definitely be making more trips! read more

We are still at the resort as I write this. You should choose another resort business. We are here for our 20th wedding anniversary and regret coming here. While the staff is generally helpful, there are several issues that result in a one star rating. 1. Safety - My wife and daughter went to the nightclub in the resort and were approached by strange young men that were trying ti get them to drink potentially drugged drinks they were offering. They were seen speaking to an older gentleman that was sitting by himself and on the phone a lot, while also seemingly associated with the DJ. There is this type of activity rampant in Mexico with foreigner victims, but we didn't think it would potentially be the case inside the resort. They had the good sense to insist against taking the drinks from them. As far as we know, the cartels may be operating inside the resort. 2. You have a host/hostess when you check in. Ours took our reservations for the restaurant and did not make the reservations before the times and days we chose were no longer available, then made a reservation for very early on a day we did not select. No accountability or apologies for the mistake. No even acknowledging it was made. 3. Constant harassment for timeshares. Suffice it to say, we will not be back and I would doubt we will go to Mexico again. Go somewhere safe. read more

Went here for a wedding and we reserved a private transport to the wedding and they told us we can not transport you to the wedding only if the bride says you can. TL; DR The overall score is a 3 out of 5. Or a C This is an all-inclusive resort, and I will rate each part of it separately. Food: B. Lots of choices and most are good, always something available to your taste. This includes specialty restaurants. Nothing jaw dropping but solid. We had nightmares from RIU Aruba regarding food quality. Luckily here is much better. Deserts are mostly meh, except always good ice cream. Also, especially restaurant reservations kind of problem to get and have rather very limited and complex open hours/days. Some restaurants were clearly understaffed like Olivetti and El Museo. Some where just closed like El Tapatio. Drinks: B, considering value. included domestic beer, XX Dos Equis, isn't bad, especially with added lime. Some bottles in bars (non-club) include decent choices like Wild Grouse and Bulliet. Also, few of gin choices. All strictly budget stuff, but decent. Ground: generally, very pretty and well maintained, but not spotless. 4/5 Activities: C here's the reason I must reduce at least two star- the main reason my family picked this resort is due to very spectacularly looking slides. The baby waterpark/pirate ship was open, and so was the lazy river and wave pool - all good, but the damn water slides were closed for entire duration of our 8 days stay. Rumored to be open next day after we left. Generally, the resort calendar is full of various activities, but without the resort app it's nearly impossible finding them. Do check the resort app or call resort directly if you're planning to enjoy a specific activity or facility. Transportation: B The golf cart train was helpful, but the app missing real-time updates. A major letdown. Also, while golf cart drivers were generally very helpful, it seems its running more on good effort, rather than well-oiled system. (Carts are electric, but you catch my meaning). There is no way of calling them (other than for a check-out), not very clear which cart goes where, other than asking the drivers who are also busboys. The beach: C Honestly its barely okay. The seaweeds there indeed cleaned but not very thoroughly and only twice a day by special tractor. Plenty of waves as there was nothing to break them (such as riffs or island) During our boat trip the captain was nice enough to let us hang out on beach a bit south from the hotel where water was protected from waves by riffs and it was a spectacular alas secluded beach. Coati (the Mexican equivalent of raccoons) were cute at first but rapidly became a food-stealing nuisance. It makes stay on near unpleasant unless you don't consume any drinks or food. Staff does nothing to them. Speaking of animals, tons of coatis, some small variation of water pig (size of small pug), peacocks, wild monkeys, and rumored but unseen by us - pair of flamingos. Finally, the room. Solid C. We picked double beds (2 adults with 2 pre-teen kids) and later added another twin folding bed. The AC was fine, you could easily adjust the temp from inside and it wasn't overly noisy. The cleanliness was ok. The tech: The TV was small (about 40"). 98% of 40 or so channels were in Spanish and all of them are in 480p or non-HD. Cmon, this 2024 ffs. Somewhat less than intuitive if you switch to HDMI1 port you do get some customized version of Chromecast devices, which are sometimes buggy but work. It doesn't support Airplay, do plan accordingly. Wi-Fi around property could be spotty but it was good in room and inside hotel buildings. Another "feature" is once you leave the room, and there are sensors both inside and outside, all 3 electrical outlets in room getting turned off. Not very convenient if you plan to both leave the room and leave something charging. Room location near beach meant that it was pretty far away from only lunch/dinner buffet restaurant, so it wasn't ideal. Choice your poison so to say. Room was ok in terms of finish, and no real issues with cleaning, but in terms of finishing quality I spotted plenty of cut corners and shoddy workmanship, especially in bathroom. See pictures, with crack inside one of sinks, is particularly glaring as not expected in so-called 5 stars hotel. So, room has a mini fridge that includes a few sodas, juices, and beers. Sometimes cleaning people bothered to refill all sometimes not. Also don't drink tap water here or you'll get bad diarrhea. Water bottles are in the room but are empty and you expected to fill them yourself in end of hallway like in cheap motel. I get whole nature conservation stuff, but imho for 5 stars hotels these bottles should have been prefilled by room service. Sales meeting was indeed annoying and never lasted promised 90 minutes. If you're not interested in timeshares, once the breakfast starts telling the sales person that they are on the clock. Luckily the never bothered us again after it. After being an Iberostar customer and Cancun visitor for over 10 years, I was very disappointed in our stay at the Iberostar Paraiso Maya Suites and would highly recommend you steer clear. First of all, the staff (especially the front desk managers and specifically a staff member names Axel) are extremely rude. They called my family and I liars on multiple occasions and many of our concerns were met with eye rolls. The trip started off rocky due to our room selection. We had chosen an "upgraded tropical view room" that was close to the pool and on the corner. However, the room was very loud and very bright. With a 3 year old, we were hoping the staff would understand our need to change rooms and be accommodating. Not only did they do nothing, we were told "why would we change your room" and again met with more eye rolls. The staff continued to say "we will check for you and let you know" and then we were ignored. Other negative things about this resort: The Maya pool buffet was closed down due to maintenance. This eliminated convenient food options for the Maya suites. This was "annoying" because you have to walk so far to get to any kind of dining when staying where we stayed. The waterslides were shut down. My daughter was really sad. The lazy river provided no tubes. The shuttle system (which you need to get anywhere in such a large resort) was a joke and had no way to call for a ride. Bartenders were rude. Rooms were dirty and never actually cleaned. The mini bars were never restocked. From someone who travels to Cancun 2 times per year, I will never stay at this resort again and will most likely avoid Iberostars as well. They seem to be going downhill and for what we paid, a little bit of customer service is all we ask. You are in the business of hospitality. Also, dont book through the website. When you get there, your price will change and they will blame the exchange rate. Its crazy to me to have a confirmation for one price and then have to pay another upon arrival. We just got back from staying at this resort for 5 nights and it was the worst hotel experience my family ever had. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. My husband and I were harassed multiple times via in person/text/call throughout our stay regarding their "welcome breakfast" which was a scam. The food was the same each day and to be honest it sucked. There was huge party of 1,000 guests so getting into the buffet was ridiculous. Mind you we had 2 little ones so to wait 30+ minutes to go into the buffet was not ok. It was like that for several days and several buffet locations. We found broken plastic in their plastic water cups and the employees did nothing about it. There was also a power outage at the resort that lasted from 7pm - 1am in 95-100 degree weather. No accommodations were made and we had our 4 year old and 1 year old with us. To make things even worse we came to checkout the day before to ensure we paid for everything. Checkout was at 12 and we asked to have a late checkout since our flight wasn't until 5:30 and the hotel denied us a late checkout. Stay away from this resort. Wish I could give 0 stars. This is probably my favorite resort in Mexico to date. The staff are extra friendly, incredibly happy and actually appear to enjoy helping! We recently spent 4 days at Iberostar Paraiso Maya. It was dang near perfect! Check-in was fast and easy. We were presented with welcome drinks immediately and had our room within 20min. We met with the concierge prior to heading to our room and were able to get reservations for each night. The requirement for reservations for all non-buffet restaurants is my only complaint. Housekeeping stopped by 2x daily & left us a new towel art creation each time. We opted to leave daily tips as we thought it was deserved. Mini-fridge was well stocked, tho not incredibly cold. After seeing our preferences from day 1, the fridge was stocked based on those. Bar service was top notch & the grounds were well-kept. Restaurants were clean and service was on par. We were made to feel welcome by everyone we met. There is now an app and it works perfectly. Wifi works well all through the resort, including the beach areas. It was a fantastic stay! read more

I would not advise staying here due to several reasons: 1. There is no bottled water. They offer you either buy Evian for $11, or use the filtered that tastes horrible like you drink rain water. And your stomach hurts after. 2. There is zero activities for the kids under 4 years old! Like 0! No disco, nothing. And you can't even let them play at star camp as they don't allow parents with the kids there. 3. The animation is the most horrible I ever saw! I'm talking about night performers! They are bad singers and the worst performers. Circus show was so cringy! 4. The bacteria's are everywhere. My son got stomach bug and I got very sick. Obviously food is at very low standards and has hygienic issues. 5. Room is always dirty. Everything is broken. The mini bar is not getting refilled until you ask. The ants are everywhere. The bed sheets had blood spots and some other things so had to ask to change and they changed to the ones with holes. That's maximum is a 3 star hotel. Move forward and pick another place to stay in Mexico if you don't want to get sick. read more

We've stayed at Iberostar a few times in Mexico and this was the only time I really felt like I paid a lot of bucks to go to a bad Old Country Buffet a few times a day. The drinks were so bad I don't think I got tipsy more than once in six days of drinking, the entertainment at night was so awful that their rendition of Purple Rain made me think I was watching a reality show about vacations gone wrong, and their gourmet dinners were comically bad - seriously - my wife's fancy fish dinner at their classy French restaurant came with lays potato chips around it. At least they tried with hers - mine was rice a roni. And that was their NICE restaurant. If you end up going there or if you're reading this while stuck there, maximize your trip by getting room service as much as possible and going to the grill area at the beach. read more

I encountered multiple issues during my stay, and below will explain my frustration, especially with young kids in tow. It is important for other travelers to consider this experience. Iberostar Paraiso Maya in Riviera Maya Mexico is a great example of a resort that's aging and has a lot of deferred maintenance. Reviews online looked good for this resort, but boy were they off. After checking in being assigned a junior "suite", I quickly realized there was a lack of maintenance. I have uploaded a few photos to get an understanding. Nevertheless, I am a glass full type of person and ignored that. However, I mentioned this to the sales staff that tries to sell you a membership package. On the second night of the stay and right before dinner at 7pm we noticed drainage leaking from the bathroom ceiling. At that point in time I went ahead and called the front desk as this is not something that could be ignored. I took an additional step and stopped by the front desk and reiterated my predicament to the staff; Gabriel and Manager Lina. Mind you I had both of my young kids with me. Dinner proceeded by a show (both very nice). Finally, after a long walk (this hotel compound is huge -not a positive) we arrived back in our suite. My daughter went to use the restroom and unfortunately the water has been turned off. I called the front desk and they told me that they had sent me a text message through the hotel app (attached photo). I didn't see this message luckily, as it would have ruined my evening. In summary they had a water pipe break and they were down grading my room. I called and told them that is just not acceptable and they proceeded to do nothing about this. I confronted the manager and she explained that she could do nothing for my situation...this is exactly what you expect from a competent manager. To finalize my night, we went to a room that was still being cleaned (unprepared) and spend the next half hour packing and unpacking and hauling baggage up the floors. My tired and restless kids finally were in bed by 11:30pm. I understand things happen outside of management control, but for customer service sake do your job and plan accordingly. Three hours is plenty of time to come up with a plan. Have a clean room ready and do an upgrade to mediate the situation. I would not recommend spending your hard earned money on a vacation to this resort. Plenty of better options are available in the area! read more

They try to sell you everyday in a time share membership. The food is ok for an all inclusive, but make sure the amenities are functional. The lazy river and wave pool were broken down when we were there. They compensated us with a bottle of Champaign and strawberries after we complained a couple times about the solicitation calls. read more

This spot is good, solid. The territory is nice with water slides, the lazy river, a couple of pools. Unfortunately, many areas were closed, but we took a walk to see flamingos and deers. I should say that the staff of this resort go above and beyond for their guests. I was lucky because I went with the Iberostar members, so my husband and I enjoyed all club privileges, such as a special bar, spa, and better liquor. The bartenders are all great and work hard to please your needs. I was not impressed with the breakfast selection. It looked quite sad with not a lot of options to choose from. Due to Covid, they do not have the same money flow, so they are trying to hustle. Cheeses and meats are behind glass, and you cannot take as much as you want. The person in charge of service was given one piece at a time, and if you ask for more, she was looking at you with a face like I was stealing something from her. That was a very unpleasant experience. Evening shows were decent; they hired the same group of people, "star friends" who perform. They need to update one show for sure: pop hits; it was like hits from the 80s, probably. Every evening we went to a new restaurant, with decent food in every each. We have stayed at Iberostar resorts several times in the past but now on arrival we got hard sell to upgrade our room. We did and got the balcony off their metal cutting shop. They promised first a room change, then a refund of the upgrade fee but never delivered on either. Sent email to their executives and didn't even get a reply. First time at Iberostar brand. Once you get past offers for the "VIP" club, it's all good. I did, however receive $260 Iberostar cash to spend at shops for my time. Not a bad exchange. I said no to the VIP club. I've been to Riu and Majestic resorts and I must say, Iberostar is the top of my list right now. The workout center is amazing. I did travel January 14-19th during the pandemic. Masks are required. Safety precautions are taken seriously. At the time of my travel, restrictions for the hotel to open at a certain capacity caused fir our room to be changed, and hotel change. We basically got an upgrade. Absolutely not happy about what they are doing here - 1stly - the rooms are old, not prepared. We had to request for our sleepers and robes to be delivered. 2 - was invited to the sales event over there, being actually interested, but they ended up kicking me out because I have a partner. According to their policy, you cannot go to the VIP presentation if you don't have everyone present from your family, even just a partner, because you will not be convinced enough. Making 300k a year, I am pretty sure I can afford whatever crappy membership they have, but now, after all this I am doubting this hotel overall. read more

I love the Maya decor and lots of pools through out the hotel. I like the Mayan ruin that actually is a bar and seating area in the lobby. It's open air with a nice breeze the staff is 5 star. I like that it's all inclusive. read more

If you chose to visit Mexico I recommend the early spring as there is less bugs and humidity or fear of bad weather. The Iberostar resorts are by "level" you may drink and dine at your resort and the ones under yours. If you can afford the all adult Grand It is much nicer (except for the beach). Any less than the grand has issues with food and needing renovation. The food and drinks here were not impressive. Some of the staff were friendly and helpful .. some not so much. Upon returning home a friend sent me some information of assaults that were reported at the Iberostar and the victim claims the staff refused any help. I wasn't going to return here anyway but this solidified my opinon that i can not recommend this chain. By far the best aspect of this trip was walking about the various resorts playing with my camera trying to capture the wildlife and flora with my point and shot camera. Some of the birds and other animals were free and some not. read more

I would rate this resort as a 3 1/2* but bumped it up because of the great service we got from most of the staff. We stayed for 7 days and originally we were supposed to stay at the Paraiso Lindo but they gave us a great deal to upgrade to the Maya. We chose Iberostar as we stayed at the Adults Only Grand a few years back and we had an amazing experience. However, this time, we were traveling with a minor and the Grand wasn't an option. We were a little apprehensive going because of the report of the Alcohol poisoning and the guests being drugged and assaulted at the Iberostar Mexico resorts. However, our worries were unfounded. As others have stated this place is huge and the layout is not straightforward. Expect to walk a lot. Our rooms were located in building 64 which was a fair walk to the beach but close to the pool. We did not have any issues with the rooms as it was worth the upgrade to the Maya compared to the Lindo. The rooms have sensors and power goes off if there's no movement in the room. We were only able to enjoy a couple of days in the beach as the seaweed came back as years past. The workers could not keep up cleaning the seaweed from the beach. Pool is huge and shared amongst the Lindo and Maya guests. It's very busy and you won't get quiet there. Now, the food is something that Iberostar could do better. You won't go hungry as they give you many choices of restaurants and dishes for the buffet. However, none of the dishes on the buffet were noteworthy. For breakfast, the egg and omelette station was good but other dishes were very salty or bland like bacon and sausages. Fruits selection were great. Choices of meats and seafood were lacking for lunch and dinner. The A La Carte restaurants were better as we went to the Steakhouse (El Rancho), Mexican (El Tapatio) and the Italian (El Fogon). I like to highlight the great service that we got from Leti in Building 64, the pool bartenders: Pablo, Federico and Jonny and the servers like Marco. We had a good time but I think we'll look to another resort when we come back to Mexico. read more

This will not be the case with one of your employees Maria R. (aka "Maria Maria") We sat in different sections at the beach and experienced different servers, but we knew RIGHT AWAY what BEST LOOKS LIKE. Not only was Maria R. service very TIMELY, CONSISTENT and ALWAYS there when we needed her, she is probably the MOST HUMBLE, POLITE, COURTEOUS, RESPECTFUL server we have EVER been fortunate to experience in our LIFETIME of TRAVELS. I am all about "Customer Service" and the importance of treating EVERY customer with TOP NOTCH SERVICE. Maria R. is a ROLE MODEL of what ALL YOUR EMPLOYEES at Iberostar Paraiso Maya should strive to be. She is an ASSET to your department and Iberostar Resort. I am a Regional Manager of a major company in the United States and I have 200 Field Employees / 5 Management Supervisors in 7 Different Offices reporting to me, so I am completely aware Premier Customer Service every day. I'm not sure which Iberostar to credit since there are four selections of the same name next to each other but this review is to give praise and thanks to the lifeguard Rosundo who swam out to save my nephew while my husband was saving me. We weren't very aware of the RED flags which mean it's dangerous because other people were standing in the shore and I guess being careful not to go out too far. The rip curl was pulling us out and every time though we were getting closer it pulled us out further. The guard in the tower started whistling when he could tell we weren't coming in. Rosundo swam out with his red floaty and got it to my nephew. I learned a huge lesson to pay attention to the flags and don't go in when the sea looks rough or if you aren't a great swimmer, which I am not (not even close). Thanks again for the quick response even though we were NOT staying at the resort. We just walked in the public access and got in the water. After looking at this place online, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it actually is. Online, it looks like a 1970s run down resort, but it is actually really nice. I stayed here December 2018 for a wedding and everyone had a really good time. As for the food, I was not super impressed but it was your typical all inclusive food. The drinks were great. They have pretty much anything you could choose from and aren't scared of a heavy pour. One thing I loved about this iberostar location was the coffee/ice cream parlor. Pretty sure I went there every single morning for an iced cappuccino and some little spicy pizza crescent thing that was delicious. The resort itself is very large. Easy to get lost walking around but they go offer complimentary gold cart shuttles to get you back and forth from the main lobby area to your rooms. Unfortunately, we had an issue with our room where the ceiling was leaking water and flooded our master bathroom but the staff was quick to offer us another room and to clean up the mess. I really liked the pool area. Plenty of seating and a large swim up bar. The service at the pool was pretty decent, someone always walking around asking is anyone wanted a drink. The pool was large and you could keep walking down further to the kids section. They have a lazy roger and a wave pool, which I enjoyed! Nobody is too old for a lazy river! As for the beach area, lots of beach chairs and umbrellas. There is also a decent bathroom and an area by the bar that has hot dogs, fries, fruit, burgers and salads all day long so you don't have to walk back to the resort for lunch. They offer massages on the beach for a price, however, I did not use that service to rate it. Over all, I liked my stay at iberostar. I think I would return. They have locations all over, so perhaps next time we will try somewhere else just to see if it compares. read more

So I am at this hotel right now. On the very first day my phone gets stolen from the beach. The find my phone app shows location of the missing phone, I go there, ask the security guys if they saw it . As I stand right next to the security guy the location coincides with mine. The minute he moves, the dot moves away. I try to ask him if he has my phone he says he doesn't speak English. Later same day I see my missing phone location at some residential address in Playa del Carmen 15 miles away from the resort. I go to the front desk, talk to Public Relations manager Lora Li (according to her), she tells me Angel the security guy works there for 7 years and she vouches for him. When I ask for Angel's last name she refuses to give it to me. When I ask to run their HR database for the address that I have she refuses. She says they are all know about my incident but refuses to give me a copy of the report. When I ask to call the police, she says I have to go there in person. I'm a single mom staying her with my daughter. I doubt anyone in their right mind would agree to leave the resort boundaries and go into the wild of Mexico especially if you are female and have a young child. Bottom line, we all come here for vacation, we expect to spend money, but you don't expect to be robbed and when you show the evidence to receive a spit in the face . Do not recommend this hotel at all. Not safe. They steal your property and you have no rights. read more

This place is the worst! We arrived after a hurricane so most of the resort was still in clean up. My issue is not with the hurricane, my issue is with the rooms not being ready, we were separated from our party. Glass doors were breaking all over the place but they felt they need to charge us for one of them. We battled the $1500 glass door charge and negotiated it down to $500 (only because we had to leave and catch out flight. We had no idea this was on our account until check out.) They said they had video of us breaking the door but wouldn't show us the video and still haven't showed us the video. NOW TWO WEEKS LATER THEY JUST CHARGED US ANOTHER $800!!!! WTF!! They are scammers and will do anything to steal your money. The food was gross, their so called gourmet restaurants are a joke, room service is slow and disgusting. No beach service, you have to stand in line everywhere to get food or cheap booze. Pools close at 8pm and they were not following COVID guidelines. They have miles and miles of beach but felt it was appropriate to hold a ceremony right outside their snack shack and bar. The bride had to wait in the swimmers public bathroom before she came down the aisle. BUYER BEWARE! Avoid this company and their so called high end resorts and wedding services. read more
