I ordered the cold turkey sandwich on white bread, 1 scoop of coffee caramel Oreo ice cream, and 1 scoop of banana pudding ice cream. My boyfriend got the grilled chicken avocado sandwich with wheat. They were out of sourdough bread. Our sandwiches came with a pickle and jalapeño flavored kettle cooked potato chips. I love pickles but I give my pickle a 3/5. I wanted to order a cold caprese sandwich with the works but when I got there and looked at the menu, they didn't have it. We also got a can of dr. Pepper for $2. If I didn't get to try the banana pudding, I would give this place a 3/5. I give this place a 4/5 because of their banana pudding ice cream. It is amazing. It tastes so good. I didn't like the coffee caramel oreo. I want to get the banana pudding ice cream every time I go here now. 1 scoop of ice cream is over $5, closer to $6. The employees were very nice. This is a great little spot with a classic feel! Our banana split was great, this is the large size & 3 of us shared it. I can only give 4 out of 5 stars because they had no cookie dough! That is my absolute favorite & required flavor at ice cream joints. They said that they had unfortunately run out, I was super bummed. I used to live in the area when I was a kid and the Ice Cream Co was always where I begged my grandma to take me. I think it has switched owners at least once over the years. I stopped in with my husband since we visited Modesto over the weekend just for nostalgia. The decor is the same as it was 20+ years ago. It was clean. The food was good. The service was friendly and helpful. The ice cream was not as good as it used to be but it was still good. The ice cream used to be the best house-made ice cream in town. Now it is more basic. I would go back anytime still. It still gives you that old time ice cream shop feel. Which is pretty much non-existent anymore. This place is definitely not modern and commercialized. I love this place, used to come here all the time as a kid. They have good sandwiches and Ice cream and shakes. They are finally opening indoor back up limited seating. Last 2 times I came I ordered the club sandwich and peanut butter chip almond milk shake. The sandwich was slightly better the first time I came. Emergency Ice Cream Company of Modesto Update! They are indeed closing forever on this Sunday! I was just there with wify at about 5:30PM yesterday, their remaining supplies are going fast ...so less and less flavors (there were about 10 less tubs of flavors already). We shared a humungo 6 scoop B-split wih six different flavors (some I have never dared to try before). I think we had two types of Cheesecake Ice cream, peanut butter, coffee, orange chip, etc. for ours. It was topped with hot fudge, whipped cream, almond slivers, and a cherry. Check out pic! We ate it from each side and just before it started to cave in I found out that my little wify who hardly eats "normal" ice-cream had devoured a huge amount from her side first....so not fair! :) She said, it was the best and most ice-cream that she had ever eaten before! In fact, we made it our dinner. It was only about $9 and I left the rest of a twenty for it's friendly young creator (who let us sample alot) and the waitress. The poor kids are losing their jobs too on Sunday! I talked to the ice-cream kid a bit and confirmed what I had thought, once the dept store (Gottchalks) went out of business a few yrs. ago, the other smaller stores started to really suffer a domino effect. The ice-cream kid claimed that it was the last homemade place in town that he knew of. It is so sad! :( BTW- They will sell you an entire tub of ice-cream for only $15....but alas it would not fit in our freezer! You better go before Sunday, I fear that they may not have many choices left! I may go Banana's there again tomorrow. I don't know who the chef was but they were there about 12:45 pm that day and cooked probably thee best bacon cheeseburger I've ever had. Stopped in while on a trip to Modesto. I'm from Arizona, so you bet I love a nice ice cream place. The ice cream was good. I ordered a sundae that consisted of coffee ice cream, hot fudge, with whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry on top. I had them add some caramel for an additional fee. Was the ice cream good? Yes. Was it a little on the expensive side? Sure. It wasn't "super amazing" ice cream. I don't think it is made in house. That's not a bad thing but definitely not something that I'm used to. When I walked in there was a "mom and pop" type feeling to the place so I for some reason expected more than what was offered. So, imho, the ice cream is priced high for what you get. Do they have customer service problems? Definitely. Here are a few examples to give you an idea: (1) We walk in and have no idea what to do--hey, we're tourists and have zero clue how things work here. We're standing in front of the door. It is a small place and not a single employee tells us "hey pick a table" or "hey go order over there" or even "get out of the way of the door." Absolutely nothing. So one of our party walks over to examine the ice cream. She ends up ordering over there while the rest of us sheepishly go sit down at a booth. (2) Member that went to the counter to order ice cream ordered the "cotton candy" and they hand her strawberry. She asks when they hand it to her if this is indeed "cotton candy" and the server says "yes." She doesn't think anything of it and sits down with her pink STRAWBERRY ice cream. The table beside us later gets cotton candy---totally different neon colors. Not the same. Our friend was a little upset that she's not only received the wrong thing, but then was told she had received something she did not. Poor customer service. Poor employee training if he didn't know which was which (there are only about 12 flavors here to choose from). (3) Sat for awhile before we found menus, without help. Finally someone came and took our order and she was nice. She really was nice. But she took orders for things and came back about five minutes later and told a different member of our group that they didn't have what she had just ordered. Servers should know this. It should not take five minutes to find out you do not have something. All in all..... it was just "meh." Not the best ice cream I've ever had. Definitely not the best service. Would I go back? Probably not. I think for the prices you end up paying, combined more importantly with the sub-par service, you can find a better place. Or just go to Walmart or something. read more

I went here on a Sunday afternoon craving a classic ice cream sundae. When I entered the restaurant, I was not greeted nor acknowledged by any of the three young boys/men working there. (They looked like they may be in their teens.) I tried to not let that get to me reminding myself that they are just teenagers and probably don't know how to provide good customer service. I ordered a medium sized Oreo cookie ice cream sundae, one medium coffee malt shake, and an ice cream sandwich - all for take away. (To go.) The teenage worker rung me up with my credit card using their touch screen device. After he finished punching in whatever he needed to do to ring me up, he turn the iPad around to me and asked me to provide a tip, as he continued to hold onto my credit card. I was appalled. How dare he asked for a tip after not acknowledging my presence when I first walk-in, for still holding onto my card, and I was ordering for take away not for eating in. He didn't deserve a tip. I still tipped him anyways because I felt pressured to just tip him. With tip the desserts cost almost $25.00 total. This alone would make me not want to come back there. This is just horrible customer service. Back to the desserts, the ice cream sundae and coffee malt shake was good but nothing out of the ordinary, and the ice cream sandwich was not freshly made, but pre-made, in which I did not like. How hard is it to make freshly made ice cream sandwiches? They used chocolate chip cookies for their ice cream sandwiches and any dessert that contains "cookies." These cookies tasted like cookies you buy that would be a Lucky's, Savemart, or Safeway brand. You'd think they you'll made fresh chocolate chip cookies, but I guess not. This used to be one of my favorite places to go have ice cream. I probably will never come back. Service is really lacking. 3 people working and it takes 20 minutes to get order and it isn't like they were busy, only had 5 tables at the time. Then after we order I here one of the worker who is supposed to make ice cream orders that she will get to them in a minute when she had 3 tickets waiting. The server was having to do too much as he was bussing tables, taking orders, taking money, serve tables. While the young lady behind counter cleans with a cleaning wipes the whole time we were waiting to take our order. Cook don't know what he was doing. I stopped in here about 6 months ago to have dinner with my family after a movie. The place was small so I was a little skeptical. I have never been more impressed with a restaurant ever. First and foremost the cleanliness was absolutely impressive. The ice cream is absolutely delicious! Best I've had ever! Great thing is they offer vegan choices as well. I know that sounds a little awkward when it comes to ice cream but let me tell you it is absolutely incredible! The sandwich I had was delicious and the service was on point. Upon leaving I found out that they work with special needs people throughout the community as far as jobs and services. Being a parent of an autistic child, I was touched by this. Been here twice and our experience was amazing every time! I thought the service was on point each time with the place being quite busy. Friendly and cheerful staff both times. My fav ice cream flavors: Butter Brickle and Coffee Fiesta I got the coffee fiesta sundae my first time: PERFECTION Brownie Sundae with Coffee Fiesta ice cream subsituted for the Vanilla: YUM! They mix in the hot fudge throughout the ice cream so you will find more of it as you gobble up your sundae :D The hot fudge was so good that one of us asked for a separate cup of hot fudge and finished the whole thing! My family and I just got back from ICC. Sadly, it will be our last meal here as they are closing their doors for good on April 17th:( We have enjoyed many years of excellent food and the best ice cream the Central Valley has to offer. The ICC has been going strong for 32 wonderful years... Side note... my husband and I met here in 1996 and we had a milkshake named after us for Valentine's week in 2001, just before we married. The Modesto Bee even ran a story on it... it was a special time for us AND we are still married! We have taken our kids there often since.
