So to start it off, when i went inside the owner already had an attitude and when i started to ask how much extra sweet cream would be, she shrugged it off and rolled her eyes. so i sat back down and waited till another cashier or employee came up and i just wanna say that the girls name ariana i think, she was so sweet and she told me that the sweet cream was 1.50$ so then that was only the first half. the next time i went it i ordered the pink bbg and it tasted HORRIBLE. i could not eat it because it tasted like chemicals. i asked them to remake it for me and the manager went on to say that im lying, that the pink taste like bazooka bbg and the blue tasted tart. i dont care what the difference is, all i asked for was for it to be remade. luckily an employee remade it for me once she left. the last and final time i went i seen a roach on the wall with the mirror...BY THE BAR! Shaved ice was decent but the flavors I got were watered down and I was unable to distinguish the flavors. Be careful of what you order. The prices on the menu display are not accurate. After asking for the receipt to be texted to me (they do not give printed receipts), I found out that the prices are actually increased. I brought it up to the workers and was just told to just call the number to speak to the manager. I told them that if they are aware of the price differences then they need to also inform the customers too. I'm only giving one star for the shaved ice. The owner, Jill, constantly claims to be a "woman of God," yet regularly yells at and disrespects her young employees. Staff members are expected to do things far outside of their job descriptions, and the overall environment appears extremely toxic and unprofessional. The biggest issue is the cleanliness and safety concerns. Employees were aware of a roach problem, and roaches had reportedly fallen into materials used for the snow cones. Instead of throwing contaminated syrup away, Jill allegedly told employees she wasn't going to "waste money" by replacing it. That same syrup was later used during a school pop-up event, which is honestly disturbing if true. There also seem to be ongoing complaints about workers not being paid properly and feeling taken advantage of. Young employees especially appear to be treated poorly and spoken to disrespectfully. Overall, based on what has been witnessed and shared by employees, this does not seem like a safe or healthy environment for workers or customers. read more

It was over 100 degrees in the Modesto area this past Monday, so why not go out for a treat for shaved ice? It's a really easy and convenient trip since it has a drive-thru and the workers come out to deliver to your car after ordering! Not sure if this really matters much to me anymore since I'm vaccinated, but to whom it might concern, this place isn't COVID-19 safe since the staff do not wear any masks or gloves. If you're paranoid about COVID-19, it's probably best to hold off visiting until either you're vaccinated or feel safe about staff workers not wearing any masks. Anyway, I ordered a Childs size Georgia Peach and Mango shaved ice for $3.25. It tasted mostly as expected and was a bit refreshing since it was pretty hot throughout the day, but I was wasn't anything over the top or something I'd crave unless it was strictly hot. The entire presentation just seemed underwhelming and nothing too special. I'd argue just having a logo on the cup rather a styrofoam cup would make it seem like I'm getting a dessert personalized and not just something that was mixed within 10 seconds. The materials used for presentation all seemed like they were grabbed at Safeway for the cheapest possible price. If you're desperate for a cheap dessert on a hot sunny day, give this place a try and you might not regret it? I did see a sign that they were selling Dole Whip which I know is extremely delicious. I just thought I would put a warning out there for anyone who frequents Pura Vida. I stopped in there yesterday to treat my family to a shaved ice. After I paid for my purchase I sat at the table and realized I paid a higher price, a dollar more per shaved ice. I was able to talk to the person behind the counter who told me that they had brought this to the manager/owners attention. They informed me that the manager knows that they are charging a different price on the register than what is listed on the board. They also said that customers have complained but they refuse to fix the problem. So just so you know you're being over charged. I find this pretty shady!! Place used to have the best snow cones in the country around 2014 or so. Now they've hired new staff, and the quality has went way, way down. The snow used to be powder fine, and served in big flower cups, with lots of flavor. Now it's in a generic Styrofoam cup so the ice falls off onto your lap while eating it, the top half is mostly ice with no flavor while the bottom half is mush within a minute or two, and worst of all, the ice is now in regular, generic larger chunks that you get from anywhere else that serves snow cones. Passing through to visit family nearby and Pura Vida was the ONLY place that popped up who offered lotus energy drinks. To our surprise they offered pretty much any sweet treat you could imagine...espresso, freshly shaved ice with ice cream, dole whip, lotus drinks and more. Jill, the owner, was so sweet and accommodating. Lotus (plant based energy drink) is best with sparkling water, but since we knew we wouldn't find another store nearby to our final destination, we ordered extra. Jill gave us the sparkling water separately so we could add to each drink as we were ready for it.
