Saturday. February 22, 2025. Dinner. My wife and I recently returned from a trip to Japan, so I will compare this restaurants to other Japanese restaurants in the United States. Comparing them to actual Japanese restaurants wouldn't be fair. We were seated almost immediately and they had a nice Japanese painting over our table. Our waitress had a friendly smile and refilled waters regularly. I ordered the Tonkatsu ($15), which is deep fried panko breaded pork loin. I had this with the fried rice and extra cabbage. My wife and I also split an appetizer of Monkey Balls ($7.50), which are spicy tuna, cream cheese and crab stuffed into a tempura fried mushroom. The sauce drizzled on the Monkey Balls tasted spectacular, but the dipping sauce for my Tonkatsu was very bland and did nothing to enhance the taste. In addition, the fried rice turned out to be regularly cooked brown rice and it needed some soy sauce. Overall, we left full and the service was fast the food good. We spent a total of $40.36 for our dinner. read more

One of the hidden gems of ABQ Westside! Tucked into the corner of a strip mall Ichiban is a good spot for sushi, noodle & rice dishes and a variety of entrees. The service is always good and friendly and sure, sometimes there's a wait but the food is always good and pricing is fair. The restaurant went through a remodel a few years ago and added outdoor seating and updated dining area, you can even sit at the sushi bar. I was sad to see the individual bento box removed from the menu but there's still a bento box for two. read more

We've ordered sushi takeout here multiple times and each time the sushi has been good. So we were confident that eating in would be just as good. We ordered Pajeon, Green Chili Tempura, Spider Roll, Super Crunch Roll, Sanchez Bibimbap, and Dolsot Bibimbap. Everything we had was enjoyable with no complaints. I did wish there was more sauce with the bibimbap because I'm saucy like it. The green chili tempura had good texture with the batter. My girlfriend wants to try the other Korean offerings they have, so we will be back. Service was great. Ichiban is a wonderful sushi spot with amazing lunch specials. They're quick for lunch and have amazing quality! I'm pretty picky about eel but their eel handroll is amazing. There's placing in the back near savers, I would say park there so you don't have to fight for a spot! It's pretty laid back inside, not fancy at all but really high quality. The quality has gone down in recent months. My friend and I have been meeting monthly for lunch at Ichiban for a few years. In the last two to three months we've noticed a definite change in the quality of our meals. The tempura batter is still good, but the veggies are cut too large and so some are still raw. I ordered edamame instead of rice with my lunch and it was cold and it looked old. My glass of diet coke was $4.00. That's crazy! read more

We were the first people in for dinner when the place opened. The Asian gal took our appetizer and drink orders, and then the tall blonde girl who looks like Taylor Swift took our food orders. You had to add your own table salt, and not rock salt on the edamame. The deep fried gyoza was over cooked and not very desirable. The California roll was good, but no wasabi. The teriyaki chicken with white rice was overcooked and veggies were mushy. The fried rice with shrimp was the best entree of the night. The yaki soba noodles with very little chicken and overcooked vegetables was a loser too. The worst of the night was the "krispy" tofu that was mushy with overcooked veggies that was a minuscule portion. The woman came to refill the drinks when we were leaving. Bad timing. Ho hum. We got the uneaten rest to go, and dumped it when we got home. Ugh! For almost $100 we definitely will not be back again soon. Walk by this place tucked away in the corner of this strip mall. The fish is always fresh and the service is fast and friendly. I did notice tonight if you sit at the tables, towards the front of the restaurant, you do hear the dishes banging in the dish bin. When you're trying to have a conversation, it is annoying and hard to converse, I think I've stated before the restaurant is kind of backwards. They have some really nice items on the way to the bathroom in the back that should be in the front and the items in the front should be in the back of the restaurant but overall fresh sushi. read more

My husband and I were really disappointed with our experience here. Our order came out wrong, and to make matters worse, part of the meat was served raw/undercooked when it should not have been. We understand mistakes happen, but food safety should never be overlooked. The lack of attention to the order and quality control made the meal unpleasant and not worth the money. First time trying this place and we were blown away with how good it was. A consistent flow of customers made the restaurant pretty busy which we felt was a good sign. Got the fried gzoya which were fantastic and the ended up getting 4 different rolls all of which were awesome!! The best part reasonably priced. For the past decade I'd have rated Ichiban 4.5 stars, but I've noticed over the past several months Ichiban is just not the same. We've been coming here for years, take out, dine in, etc. It's clean and we always have great and friendly service -that's still the same. But... we used to count on great food and good prices too. Unfortunately on our last few visits, we've been a little disappointed... sushi rolls are smaller, have more rice/less fish/fillings, the fish doesn't seem as high quality, and the appetizers are smaller plus everything went up in price. Food has been great every visit, and not too much rice on the rolls which is my preference. Prices are right. Small sushi bar, in a strip mall inside corner. Not too busy, Staff is usually great but our server, ignored us, never got our tea, disappeared and we had another server get our bill and she was sweet. Tip reflected service unfortunately. We ordered 3 teriyaki chicken build-a-bowls and a 6 piece salmon nigiri. $58. Spoiler: we haven't been here in a while but the food quality has gone down hill. We have eaten here several times over the past ten years and have always enjoyed the quality food and great service. Today the nigiri was just okay and the build-a-bowls were sub-par as the veggies were mushy, the gyoza was mostly air and cold, and the teriyaki chicken wasn't very good. Though the faces have changed the service was still top notch. This used to be the best place to go for Japanese food in the area - we'll have see if we can find the new top restaurant in the coming weeks. read more

First I admit, we arrived at 8:00 pm, 30 minutes before closing, but did confirm if it was too late to order (even with the sign at the entrance stating last orders taken 20 minutes before closing) & was assured by our hostess/server it was fine for a party of 3. As first time visitors, we hurried to get all our orders in before the 8:10 cutoff. Our sushi appetizer (very delicious) came out promptly & by the time we finished our entrees arrived. First, I will say everything was exceptionally fresh tasting, The salmon teriyaki was served with 2 generous filets. Unfortunately, the tempura plate was barely warm & the Chicken & Veggie Yakisoba soup was 90% noodles & 8% broth, that was not very flavorful, and there were very few vegetables or chicken. But what was most disappointing was how rushed we were made to feel. I'd have given Ichiban 3-1/2 stars if it weren't for another server/busser(?) stopping by our table to ask if he could box up our food to go just as 2 of us were literally taking bites from our plates! It seemed more of a request than a question. There was no question they wanted us outta there asap as the floors were getting mopped, tables wiped down, & chairs overturned onto the table tops (usually a queue when you've stayed way beyond closing time, not a few minutes!). But when the manager(?) served us our bill shortly after I spotted him casually sauntering into the restaurant from a side door, likely to collect the days earnings & lock up, only to find patrons still eating was poignant. While I do understand a restaurant doesn't want malingering diners after closing time, my party and I were not dining, we were inhaling our meals. From the time we were seated to the time our bill was given to us was 35 minutes, maybe 40, tops! I've never been as rushed to eat at a sit down dinner & get my bill paid as I did at Ichiban. As for the ambiance it seemed fine - but wasn't there long enough to really determine. read more

My husband and I ate here on 5/23/26 and got food poisoning and were quite sick for several days (one of the days I couldn't even get out of bed and was vomiting throughout the day). (Note- I am in my 30s and generally pretty healthy- so this was quite concerning). We called the location to let them know we had gotten food poisoning and told them what we had ordered, so that anyone else ordering the same thing wouldn't get sick. We had ordered items with Korean beef, as well as the dynamite sushi roll (see image). I don't know if the meat or the sushi was undercooked, or if it was a weird spice in the sushi roll, but either way, it made us very sick. When we called, the manager almost acted like he didn't even believe us (he said nobody else had called in about getting sick, so that made our story somehow less believable to him?) and offered to give us a 'credit' for the next time we go there. Sorry, but I'm never going back there again. He REFUSED to give us a refund for the meal that actually made us SICK. This is unacceptable. Ichiban should have higher food quality standards. We basically paid good money to get sick. Super disappointed with the experience and the management's response. Note: it is interesting because I have since seen a number of other reviews for that same week/weekend from other people having poor-quality experiences and undercooked meat. I've had better sushi and the Korean Japanese dishes can be incinsistent. However, on the last visit, I found that they have raised their prices again and the portions are smaller. The bibimbap now only fills about 1/3 of the bowl and Korean chicken is now pretty meager. The atmosphere had been pretty good, but the last time, they seated a large and very noisy family next to us. They were so distracting that it did not feel like it was comfortable dining. read more

The "deluxe" bento box was double the price of our favorite place (which unfortunately is on the other other side of town), and still less food. And, not very good. We arrived for dinner. We were seated and given menus and asked what we would like to drink. We asked what kind of hot tea they have, green tea. We are not big fans of green tea, we ordered iced tea. I observed the dining area was very clean, the windows and glass partitions were exceptionally clean. The sushi bar is clean the side of the bar where the sushi is prepared is also very clean. I excused myself to check on the bathroom. The decor is not over bearing or too gaudy. All in good taste and color. the women's bathroom was very clean and well kept. I sat down, about 10 minutes went by when our waitress took our order. It was 5 my minutes maybe when our food arrived. All piping hot, fresh and the flavors were delicious. The waitress came by three times, twice to refill our drinks. The third to bring our take home order. We definitely will be returning. read more

So we had to wait a while. My kids took me here. They almost gave our table away, had to argue that they miss out group. They need to get the seating thing fixed. The food was amazing. I have to say sushi sushi. They have changed the pricing as I figure most places have. You now buy one piece at a time. They did try their best once we were seated to take care of us. They provide a small bowl of miso soup. Wow. Now that has the perfect taste. Gobbled mine in a heartbeat I had the yellow tail and it was AMAZING!! Friends ordered the cracklin. I must say that was delicious. I have not had that before. Beer was good but had no IPAs so that was a bummer. Fried rice was good, udon noodles the bomb. Yeah all in all, was a great time. . My meal was a treat after 18 hours driving my van to Boulder and back over two days. Everything at Ichiban was fresh - and nicely prepared. There's limited seating inside - which I wasn't aware if when I called. I'm glad I didn't know actually, it was a treat to play Jazz in the van (In the parking lot) sip a perfect Manhattan, and dine on a little sushi followed by Korean food. I think my new favorite sushi restaurant here in NM. We've been her many a time but something is different this time - new gosh provider? New chef? New management? I don't know, but the sushi was so fresh and had bright flavors, so good! Service is also very courteous and friendly and everything is very clean inside including the restrooms. This will officially be our go-to sushi restaurant (although the bibimbap is excellent too!) And so happy we don't have to cross the river to get there lol read more

Imagine if you will, your the "Flash", you can zip around the world lightening fast, to have food from Japan and Korea, all in the same place. With counsel from the Flash, we chose Korean to share (for real this time..:).. "Galbi"..Beef Short Ribs with Kimchi. The beef was so tasty and scrumptious w. kimchi that had just the right bite and "Chapchae"..Stir-Fried Sweet Potato Noodles with fresh Vegetables...the potato noodles and its sauce were wickedly good with veggies a veggie head would love. All washed down with a nice cold Sake. Yeah, one day, well, the sky might fall Yeah, one day, I could lose it all So I run until I hit that wall. Have been coming here for the last year and I have to say, It is my favorite sushi place in New Mexico! I would like to say I'm a regular here since I come at least one or twice, even three times a week! The staff here is incredibly and extremely kind, they're very attentive to you and your table and will always help out if you need. Food wait times are short and the food always come out great! The stores atmosphere is really relaxing and always has nice classic piano music playing, and at the bar, you're treated to some television as you watch the chef's prepare your food! So the main course was Beef Teriyaki with brown rice & Bulgogi Bowl with steamed veggies. The beef was tender but the teriyaki taste was missing. The bulgogi was equally tender and flavorful. Another great meal at Ichiban! I had the YukGaeJang and pajeon. I might have misspelled those. I thought the pajeon would have more green onions in it. It was good, but I thought it could use a little more flavorful ingredients. The yukgaejang was the star for me today. It was a big serving with plenty of super tender beef, glass noodles and fern bracken! It was just the right level of spice for me too. I did wish there would have been some ban chan served with it, since I ordered two Korean items. Even a small plate of kimchi would have been nice. All in all, it was good service with tasty food.
