Really good hidden sushi spot! The restaurant is small but service was great. Really loved their Wok plates and bento box options as well. Highly recommend the dumplings and to try one of their sake's. This was the only place I have ever been to where they breakdown what sake is and which might be best for you. Loved the family owned atmosphere. Adding this to our sushi rotation.

It had honestly been a minute since I had been to sushiya. The last time (several years ago) it seemed like everything was bland and flavorless... however my husband and I were in the area and we decided to give it another try. Boy am I glad we did! We ordered sushi to start. The sushi came out fairly quickly. We had 2 basic rolls, a tuna roll and a salmon roll... tho I will say there was no mention of avocado in the salmon roll, but when it was brought it had it... not a fan but both were good and fresh. We also ordered a Buddha Belly roll which was HUGE! It was also amazingly delicious! By far my new favorite roll! I would return for this roll alone! Highly recommend! We also ordered some crab Rangoon ... however I felt that these were not nearly filled enough for the size... they definitely could use some more filling. The egg drop soup we got was also STELLAR!! Would also come back to order a huge bowl of this as well! Delicious and savory! Absolutely wonderful! We also ordered entrees as well. All came out warm and quickly. We went during dinner time but service was quick and friendly! The place itself was clean, bathrooms were clean, and staff was friendly! Overall would definitely recommend and absolutely will be returning!

ValPak had a 15% off coupon so we tried this place. We will not be back. My daughter said her miso soup tasted like a mix and not fresh. The egg drop had corn in it and was just ok. The crab Rangoon and vegetable egg rolls were again, just ok. They came with teeny little cups with dipping sauce. Weird. We both got bento boxes and they were nothing special. The tempura vegetables were meh. The salad dressing was weird. Her BBQ and my shrimp were just ok. She likes more bland food and she said it was super bland. The california roll had very little taste. The server was good but the food subpar.

I ordered Sushiya for takeout last night and it was delicious. This was a Sunday night and they weren't busy from what I could tell. I was able to pick up the order rather quickly. I'm a huge fan of the Geisha roll which comes with rice paper and has a ton of flavor. I also added a California roll which was ok, a little lite on the rice side of things. I think the prices for their rolls are super reasonable and would much prefer this to grocery store sushi that is often just about the same price. In the past, I've come and sat down instead of getting takeout. When you eat in, they bring you miso soup which is always such a treat.

Service: the service was ok, it could have been a little better and has been in the past. The servers just seemed young and wasn't sure was in the sushi rolls, so we gambled on the rolls and were happy with them. We were seated immediately and had our drink orders taken and delivered quickly. After they took our food order though they took a while to get our ticket and she gave me a very small box for our leftovers. Food: the food has always been good, it was my grandmas favorite egg drop soup! The rolls are good and made fresh. The miso was great and so was the rice. My favorite is the vegetable egg rolls. The food was what got the 5 stars today.

Yummy!!! I'm so glad I tried this little place! It's a very small very friendly staff ! The food is pretty good! We had the fried dumplings which were perfect! The crab rangoons are delicious. They do taste different but super good! The Prawns with candied pecans was good just super sweet! The sushi was fresh and perfect!

Stopped by here for a bite of sushi and the sushi was good! One of the sushi dishes that I got took quite a while to come out, it basically came out by the time I was done with my other sushi order. The yaki soba was pretty good, I thought it was a little bit salty. Our server didn't seem like she wanted to be there. She was nice, but didn't have any emotion or showed that she cared to be there.

This is the amount of food that we couldn't stomach and is going in the garbage

It is not the biggest restaurant, and is popular, so I would recommend being prepared to wait during "popular busy time" but it is so worth the wait. So I also recommend waiting. The staff is always pretty friendly and accommodating. I shared an app, a roll and an order of salmon sashimi with a friend on both visits. The food is always fresh, and delicious! I never feel like I am being overcharged for what I get either. Going to eat for sushi can feel like that sometimes. The quality of the food is great and everything is always aesthetically pleasing as well. I had their avocado bomb on my last visit and I was delightfully surprised with it. I like avocado in most cases, but sometimes, it can be a lot at one. I thought this was going to be like that when I saw it, but I was wrong. I look forward to getting one of these on my next visit! On my last visit my friend and I saved room for a dessert, one that we saw rotating on their screens that they have in the restaurant showcasing some of the menu items. It was a take on a bananas foster. It looked delicious but alas, we'll see if we can manage to get it next time. Note to self, have dessert first on next visit?

The final price (paying with cash) was $102.32 before the tip, which seems very fair given the size of the portions and the quality. The fish was not the very highest quality, but it was very good. The wasabi was some of (if not) the best that I've ever had. The soy and eel sauces were made in-house, and were excellent. Presumably, the rest of the sauces were house-made as well. Leo was a very good and friendly server. The atmosphere was very relaxed but could be suitable for something fancier. The one thing that hurts is the price; as fair as it is, I do wish that it were a smidgen less.

The two rolls I ordered were better than last time. One was The Green Dragon (i think) using Avacado instead of seaweed. The other was Lobster Dance which is scallops and lobster. The Green dragon was okay. The Lobster Dance would have been a lot better without the overpowering sauce. The nigir were okay, but I prefer my nigiri to not have a lot sauce and all three I ordered were heavily covcered in their cloying (oyster based?) sauce. The Monkey Balls were meh, I've had way better here. The Seaweed Salad was excellent which I think was true last time. I guess I still need to try the in restaurant experience, but based on the food alone I'm not sure it would be great. If anyone has a great place they like let me know!!!

That's why Sakura Sushi & Grill stood out right away. They clearly label gluten-free options on the menu. They also offer gluten-free soy sauce, which is a huge win. Even better, they have lunch specials with gluten-free options, which is rare. It's located in Riverside Plaza in Albuquerque, just past the river on the west side. I ordered the Sushi Lunch A with premium fish and chose the double salmon roll. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious, and the portions were great for the price. The miso soup that comes with lunch isn't gluten-free, but they brought me a side salad with an amazing gluten-free dressing instead. I felt confident eating here, which is not something I say often. I didn't have any reaction afterward and would absolutely eat here again. One of the coolest surprises: they make their own wasabi in-house. It's not on the menu, but if you ask, they'll bring it out, and it is absolutely worth it. We considered getting a sushi boat, but the lunch specials were a better value for lunch. If we went for dinner, we would absolutely order a boat. I also had hot sake, which paired perfectly with the meal. At the end, they even brought us a sweet cinnamon tea for my friend's birthday, even though we didn't order dessert. Service was warm and attentive the entire time. My friend has a shellfish allergy, and the server made sure her plate only included fin fish, which we really appreciated. We went around 1:30 p.m. on a Tuesday, and it was quiet with only a few other tables. The atmosphere felt calm and relaxed, with a casual, comfortable vibe that made it easy to sit and actually enjoy a conversation without feeling rushed. They close at 3 and reopen for dinner, so it's a great low-key lunch spot if you time it right. My friend also mentioned she brings her young kids here often, and the woman manager or owner is especially kind and welcoming to them. I enjoyed this place so much that I called my husband on the way home to tell him all about it. We're already planning to go back with our kids, which will make this my second visit in one week. If you're gluten-free, this place is a gem. And even if you're not, the quality, service, and overall experience make it absolutely worth a visit.
