Awful dinner experience -- I ordered the "Sushi Plate" but what arrived was different from what the menu described, so I inquired, to ensure I didn't get someone else's order. The server insisted there is no dinner "Sushi Plate" (showed me a menu where the dinner price was taped over, but my earlier menu had a dinner price) and that this was a similar alternative (and conveniently 50% more expensive!). Friend ordered the "Salmon Teriyaki" which came out with the skin completely burnt (not crispy, not charred -- burnt) and drenched in an unpalatable amount of teriyaki sauce. read more

This place has such a friendly atmosphere. The servers are very nice and courteous. You get actual service... and not people just doing the bare minimum of asking what you want and bringing it out to you without saying anything. (Ahem... my other sushi review. Hahaha.) Ohmygoodness. I was so hungry I didn't take many pictures. I just stuffed my face. I ordered the shrimp tempura roll and added cream cheese and jalapeños. They didn't skimp on either! Yay! It was really good, and it was a decent price. I, also, had some shrimp tempura. The batter was good and light, and it didn't taste like onion rings! Lol. Two of the people we were with go to this sushi place, like, religiously, so you can understand how much they love this place. The game plan was to go try out LA Buns for the 1st time. We parked in the parking structure across the street, in doing so we discovered Ichiban. I'm a huge sushi fan. We came here instead. I don't understand why people give this place a bad review. 2 people said, the sushi falls apart when you pick it up, how about learning how to pick up the sushi. Someone said they hate Korean businesses, sushi is Japanese though.... I on the other hand, had a positive experience at this location and I will come back again. Fast service (that's how it should be when only about 8 tables are being occupied). Fair pricing, 4 rolls and edemame came out to about $44 (above average IMO). And most importantly good sushi, not great, but good. Far better than other sushi establishments I've visited. The edemame is good. Comes out warm and fresh, as it should. The sushi rolls of choice this evening we're the DUI roll, Popcorn roll, power roll, and the firecracker roll. All rolls we're pretty good. Wasabi and soy sauce adds a kick to the sushi. If I go back I would do the firecracker and power rolls again. Those were the winners in my book. The waitress recommended the Firecracker roll, stating that it was on of the most popular rolls. Decent Sushi in Downey, I would have never guessed. This place is a little sketchy from the outside. The neon green and forest green exterior paint just doesn't seem very inviting. Once you get inside and find a seat things start looking up. This location is clean and has cute decor. The sushi bar is staffed with friendly workers and the sushi they served was pretty good. I was not blown away but I was pleasantly surprised. Fresh sliced salmon, tasty unagi and very flavorful spicy tuna. The rolls themselves were fairly big, especially for the price. Hand rolls with out rice were gigantic and I am not sure if they charged more or not. I ate lots of sushi and didn't even break $20. I enjoy coming to this quaint little sushi restaurant in Downtown Downey !! The employees are really nice and you get served really fast ! The place is really nice and clean and had a really intimate feeling. The crunchy roll is really good and has just the right amount of crunch that gives it it's name. The baked lobster roll was super yummy with lots of lobster meat and a nice sauce that really complements it. The Miso soups comes out really hot with just the right amount of tofu. They don't come and clean up dirty plates. They made me and my whole family not want to ever go back again. They are not kid friendly. Do not dine here with your family. I would have loved to have written a review for this place but we never even sat to eat. Came here with my family to celebrate a birthday in the family. My father is in a wheelchair and they were unable to seat him. If you or anyone you know is in a wheelchair avoid this place at all cost. There were a few spots that were open that may have accommodated him but they were reserved and of course they could not give up those spots to accommodate us. This was definitely an unpleasant dining experience and I will be sure to let as many people as I can know about this place. While the spider and California roll fell behind in the generic. The baked lobster was superior in many aspects. If the prices would drop 2 dollars per plate or volume on them increment this would make them go to 4 starts but this place offers you good food at a fair price. The poki is super fresh. Best green tea I've tested. The marlow roll is pretty yummy. The mango sorbet with fried banana is my vice. Love the miso soup. This has been my family's sushi spot for over 4 years now. I have tried sushi from many locations and nowhere do they have the taste Ichiban does. Every sushi roll has a combination of flavors that mesh well together. The waitresses are always kind and attentive. The chefs are also fun and kind when you sit at the sushi bar. I recommend sitting at the bar when you can because they give complementary sushi rolls or wraps that you probably would not try outside of your own order. Although this yelp review is a bit late I'd like to start off stating how they have a good miso soup, you may ask yourself if that's the only thing I ordered and it was not I ordered a California roll with tempura and chicken teriyaki. As well as a Marlow role and caterpillar roll. Starting off the portions on the take out for the chicken were extremely short, I don't think even subway cheaps you out on the chicken that much. Both other sets of rolls Marlow and Caterpillar simply did not live up to the taste this establishment received since it was a recommendation, your best bet is to try samurai down the street. And in conclusion to this review I shall point out as a warning when you as the paying customer get billed at $50 and decide to not WRITE IN A TIP!!!!! your bank account will present itself as a $10 extra dollar tip that you did not authorize so I'll be needing to settle that dispute. read more

Great sushi spot located in Downtown Downey. The outside of Ichiban doesn't look to appealing but the inside of this place is great. Sometimes Parking can be a pain because there is so much going on in that area with Porto's and bars that are there. I usually just avoid looking for Street parking and go straight into the parking structure and walk on over. The people are friendly and offer great service. As soon as you walk in through the door they greet you with a hello and a smile. They're attentive and your sushi is brought out quickly. I ordered the garlic edamame which is a must and the spider roll. Everything was good, filling and fresh. The Restrooms are very clean and well maintained.
