This place is amazing! The grilled fish is always fresh, and the sides are incredible. The Brazilian-style rice and beans are delicious, and the salad is just as good. I'm seriously addicted to this place! The staff is super attentive, friendly, and helpful. You can order either through one of the two self-service kiosks or the traditional way with help from the staff, which really helps avoid long lines and long waits. July 4th after we went hiking at Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park, we're hungry and wanted to have some fish tacos, we found this place in Daly City on Yelp and decided to try it out. The place is in a big shopping center so there are quite many places to park. The restaurant is very modern and clean, I liked it right away. There are quite a few dishes to choose from. We ordered from the kiosk and I was amazed that how inexpensive this place is. Everything we wanted to order costs less than $15 and seems to be plentiful. I wanted the Cajun Fish Battered Tacos with flour tortillas, french fries and zucchini. There are quite a few types of drinks that are good. My order was made wrong, cajun fish without battered and they fixed it with only one but I didn't want to bother. One cajun fish taco and a battered fish tacos (not cajun), may be the cook couldn't wait to leave because they close early at 6PM due to 250 years of independence. Anyhow, the battered fish is very crispy and delicious, the cajun fish without batter is a little dry but still tasty. The french fries are crispy and good. The zucchini is excellent. For less than $15, my plate is plentiful and tasty. My brother in-law got the protein bowl which looked quite tempting. They were busy but not to busy. Welcome atmosphere. Although, there is room for improvement. My friend had ordered avocado and garlic bread. First, the staff forgot the garlic bread so I had to walk up and ask for it, second they only gave us one set of utensils when there's two of us and there's two plates. And lastly, they forgot to add the avocado (which we totally did not notice until after the meal was done, unfortunately). Came here again after a couple of years. Ordered my standard fish & chips with zucchini to go. Once again, everything was in the same box. I asked them to separate it because the fries were soggy. I feel like they just put the zucchini in a cup, and the same fries in a separate box. When I finally got home, the fries had no crisp at all. I guess they will never learn. Plus, the price has gone up a few dollars from about 1.5 years ago, and the quality isn't quite the same either. $15 for a 3pc is still decent compared to other places though. Salmon & Swai Combo w/1 sauce and 2 sides ($15.75): +Swai was so silky and melted in my mouth! One of the best cooked fish I've had in recent memory. +White rice was perfectly cooked. -Salmon was dry & fishy. -Garlic butter could use more garlic and seasonings. -Tomatoes were fresh in the Seasoned Tomato & Feta, but this side was bland and only had a few crumbles of feta (looked nothing like the picture). As somewhat embarrassing as it may be, I have to admit I don't even want to know how times I passed by this California Fish Grill without realizing that it's the same California Fish Grill in Irvine that sat in my list of bookmarks for years. YEARS. Less so because of any failure to make the connection and much more so because I could've started coming here a whole lot earlier! Compared to their location I visited in Irvine (the one on Barranca and Culver, FWIW), just about everything, as you'd certainly expect, feels the same, whether it be the decor, the vibes, or, most importantly, the menu. From their selection of starters, salads, sides, and tacos to their sandwiches, seafood plates, bowls, and fried seafood baskets, all of the different options available looked just as good. Also, in addition to a few limited time offerings, I was impressed to see that they also had a note about having to remove their mahi mahi due to currently being unable to sustainably source it. Unfortunate since I wanted to try it, but I was happier to see some level of corporate consciousness. -- SALMON & SWAI COMBO Topped with Garlic Butter Sauce & Cajun Sauce, Diced Rosemary Zucchini, and Fries...$15.50 Although I wish each fillet had been larger, this was great! The salmon was as delicious as I had hoped and the swai was surprisingly solid - tender and flavorful. I also liked that neither sauce was overpowering and that the fries and zucchini were as tasty as I remember! -- BATTERED FISH & BATTERED SHRIMP with Kaleslaw and Fries...$13.50 The pieces of fish were bigger the first time I had this, but the taste of them, as well as the shrimp, was still pretty good. I've been to California Fish Grill before its been a go to especially during Lent. The service this evening was great we had two individuals check in on us, one being the restaurant manager. We had just gotten there before the dinner rush, so we were able to order our food and find a table. I ordered the Clam Chowder, Parmesan Garlic Bread and the Sea Bass (Branzino) with Garlic Butter. Wish I had listened to the bad reviews about this place. I ordered the fish and chips. My fries were soggy, the fish was soggy. I asked for lemons, tartar sauce and vinegar.
