I have been to this place twice now, once to purchase an engagement ring and once to buy the wedding bands for my wedding coming up. Each time I have come, they have been great to me. Ani is phenomenal. She is very helpful, not pushy, and is straight forward in getting to the point. She suggested certain designs for the wedding bands (primarily because my fiance and I were utilizing our own diamonds), and even explained how it would look and everything. I got my fiance's engagement ring here and damn am I glad I did. The whole process was made very easy for my by the very helpful staff. I did do some research before hand by looking up the types of rings they had on their website which helped too. For the setting, it was very easy to pick and choose my favorite components from two rings and create my own design from that; they said this is how 80-90% of the rings they sell are made. So it is very easy to get the ring you want. The highlight of my experience was selecting the main stone. Vic, the guy helping me out, talked some sense into me and helped me select a stone that looked great with the naked eye and was cheaper than a stone with slightly fewer flaws that looked pretty much the same with the naked eye. As I wrote before, my husband and I returned to get our wedding rings. I took about two minutes to decide what I wanted. I originally wanted have matching weddings bands, but once the salesperson saw that my husband wanted to get a band thicker than 6mm, she suggested to have a custom made wedding band that will match my engagement ring. I was sold. I literally took my husband to two hours to choose a band. The salesperson was SO patient with him. He finally decided on one made from tungsten that will never tarnish, dent, or scratch. I unfortunately did not have a good experience here. I heard good things from my cousin who purchased her engagement ring from Icing on the Ring and had nothing but good things to say. I went in based on her review to re-set my engagement ring (I love my husband, but he didn't quite get it right). I had a design in mind-- a very simple wide flat band, and with a lower set straight and thin profile prongs. I also asked about whether it was possible to do a euro shank. Here are some of the things I was told and my response in parentheses): - it sounds like you are very influenced by what your sister has (no, I am not. She and I are the exact opposite but she had a very nice euro shank and it actually worked on her ring to prevent spinning) - your diamond is much smaller so you can't do what's in the picture (sure, 1.5 isn't as big as a 2 carat diamond but it felt weird to be told it's small -- also I have seen many rings that are my small diamond size that have what I want, including from their own line of rings) - you're not giving us enough creative license (I thought I was paying a premium to have custom set job. I understand structural concerns, and was receptive to that kind of feedback. But I am not pleased with someone telling me that I should keep these very thick prongs simply because you cannot order that component any other way. If you can't order it or make it the way I want that's totally ok. It just isn't a good fit between us. But don't lie to try to keep my business by saying it's a structural concern). - kept trying to sell me on one of their pre-made rings that I absolutely hated. I said repeatedly I didn't like it. - I showed him Lauren B rings that I liked and he said: yeah but they do a lot of moissonites. (First, what is wrong with moissonites? And second, what does that have to do with my preference for that setting? And third, they do a lot of diamonds too). I just overall had a very cringy experience and I went twice. Both times I just wanted to leave but gave them a fair shot. He made everything very difficult (like a stylistic negotiation). I would not recommend going for your custom jewelry. read more

I can't add much more to the rave reviews of Icing on the Ring. I worked with Vic and he was very courteous and professional in helping me pick a diamond. What ultimately sold me on this family jeweler was a couple of things: 1. The diamonds we looked at were very competitively priced. (You should come in with an idea of what you want in terms of the four C's, and the price range you find online. You'll find that the jewelry district stores will quote you anywhere from the same price to $400 more... IOTR best matched the online prices in my experience) 2. They can make custom ring settings, and all rings are made by the family in-house. The father hand carved my custom ring setting, and it turned out so beautiful, I cannot thank them enough. All of their rings come with a limited guarantee as well, so if your diamond comes off due to anything faulty on the ring, it is covered. 3. To top it all off, Vic worked under my budget and quoted me the absolute best price I received anywhere else in the jewelry district. 4. I should also mention that the ring came in ahead of schedule which was a life saver. So basically best prices + courteous service + custom rings made in-house make IOTR the place to choose for your engagement ring. In short - Hands down this family store is courteous, patient, helpful, and just great to do business with! Having been down to the jewelry district a few times to look for my engagement ring, I was always leery of about finding someone that wasn't trying to screw me over. My husband got my engagement ring through a family friend out of state, but we wanted to go local to find our wedding bands. I checked out yelp and ta-da - Found Icing on the Ring. While we went in with a grain of salt, we walked out knowing this was the place to buy our rings. Prices were better than Blue Nile, but you also get your own local jeweler! We spent almost an hour looking at bands, and despite the store being crowded with customers, we were never rushed or cajoled into something we would not be thrilled with. I ended up getting my wedding band here and was able to make design adjustments to create the ring of my dreams. (thin 3/4 diamond eternity band around vs. 1/2 or all the way around). The only reason my husband did not get his band here, is because he went with a Tungsten Carbide ring (that they dd not carry). A while back I came here to purchase a ring that my wife had seen and wanted. A bald man with facial hair (I believe he is one of the owners) presented the ring to me and all was well until it came to discuss the price. Now I understand that not all establishments negotiate on price, but I've been to enough jewelers to know that many do. So I asked if I paid in cash, whether he could give me break on the sales tax. He got this look on his face... Hate? Disgust? Anyway he said, "You like nice roads? You like schools? You ASIANS never want to pay tax!" Now, I never suggested we skirt the law and not pay sales tax. The offer was that I'd pay CASH so that he wouldn't have to pay the credit card SERVICING FEE and then he would pay the tax for me. I wasn't pushy about it. I just asked. He could have just said no, prices were non-negotiable. I probably would have even been okay with the lecture on taxes (I'm not one of those nuts who believe taxation is theft). But he had to bring my race into it. So needless to say, this place will not be getting my business. Even if you're not perturbed by my account, you shouldn't shop here just on the basis that they don't have the best jewels or the best prices (I was only there because my wife liked that particular ring) in that area. Yelp saves the day! After many many months of researching, searching and walking through downtown galleries, I finally consulted with Yelp. I'm so glad I did. My fiance and I were very close to purchasing the ring at another retailer downtown. We already had the stone and wanted a beautiful, vintage inspired setting. My boyfriend and I were looking for bands to celebrate out 10th anniversary and thought we'd try IOTR after browsing the chain stores. I thought the selection was great and picked a diamond cluster band. The prices were very competitive. We were helped by both Raffi and Vic and they were both wonderful. After wearing my band for a month, I tripped - landing on my ring hand and bend my band. I brought my band in and Raffi remembered me from our shopping/purchasing visits. He suggested keeping the band in the sonic cleaner over night to make sure all the diamonds were secure. They examined and reshaped the ring for free. I call that FANTASTIC customer service. Got my and hubby's wedding bands at Icing on the Ring based on great yelp reviews. It was a busy Saturday when we went down and we had to wait for about 15 minutes before being helped but it was fine because were were able to browse their beautiful selection. When it was our turn we never felt rushed to make a decision, even though there were people waiting behind us. We both love our rings! I had them resize my engagement ring on the advice of the sales lady and during the process they also redid the rhodium plating since it had faded. I guess the only negative would be that I had to resize the wedding band and engagement ring again a couple of weeks after the wedding. I must have been super stressed before the wedding because after I got back my rings wouldn't fit on my fingers w/o cutting off my circulation.
