If you want to be sold unnecessary and overcharged service without fixing your AC's true problem, hire this company. I made the mistake to hire this company last week to diagnose and repair my AC system which was cooling fine but intermittently turned itself off. Instead of completing a thorough diagnosis, the technician who was constantly micromanaged over the phone repeatedly push for approval of adding about 3 lbs of refrigerant, an evaporator coil cleaning, and a thermostat replacement. When I declined the refrigerant and cleaning because the unit was visibly clean and there was no clear evidence of needing refrigerant, the manager threw a tantrum over the phone and ordered complete of service. It costed $400+ to just replace a thermostat. I did not know that the performed thermostat replacement was not fixing the true problem, might not have been necessary, and it made the AC performance worse. After the technician left, my AC failed to cool the house and water started coming from the handler. The indoor blower continuing to run even when the thermostat was set to Off and the fan was set to Auto. I had to hire another contractor who quickly identified thermostat's WRONG WIRING and performed the needed repair. No refrigerant needed, no cleaning needed, just firming the connection of the disconnect box, less than $100. The system was running with all readings in range and completely balanced as soon as the new repair was done. What Icy Hot did was short-circuiting cooling and heating together in thermostat installation making the AC to run both cooling and heating at the same time! What a joke if a company cannot even install a thermostat correctly (not to mention it was probably unnecessary) and charges $400+ for a faulty installation. I wrote to Icy Hot noting the FAULTY service, the manager ACKNOWLEDGED the thermostat wiring was incorrect, but REFUSED to reimburse any costs despite their MALPRACTICE which could have cause further damage to my AC. Extremely disappointed with the incompetence, dishonesty, and the lack of accountability after their work created additional problems. Stay away!! [Additional notes given company's response below]: The company's response below shows again their insist of unnecessary service. The AC's issue was not related to refrigerant nor it needed any cleaning. The technician onsite was not able to show much evidence justifying either but was under immense pressure from the management to oversell. The service was scheduled from 3-5pm but the technician did not arrive way after 5pm and took an hour still no clue. A lot of the time was spent speaking on phone with the manager. The service was never an emergency service. I called in the morning, the office said they could dispatch a technician between 3-5pm and we set appointment. Categorizing the scheduled normal service as emergency and claimed to have stayed after hour to falsely induce mercy is just another evidence of dishonesty. Regarding the revisit to correct any error, I was reluctant to call the Icy Hot back given the incompetence and the oversell push during the initial visit, not even for the so-called warranty service. This echoes a review posted by another customer earlier in Google review. I worry that instead of fixing any error, more unnecessary service will be demanded and further damage be done to my AC. Now it is not hard for the company to say: Well, that was an easy error to correct, and you should have called us. This is all because another contractor with true expertise and good ethics has diagnosed Icy Hot's error. If Icy Hot was capable and ethical at the first place, the error would not have occurred with sufficient final steps of double checking wiring, temperature and air flow after thermostat installation. I used Icy Hot a week ago. In my opinion, they are way too expensive. They charged me $444 to track down what they said was a short. Hey why should my HVAC system be any different than most and go out when we have 100 degree days? Based upon YELP positive reviews I decided to contact this business. I sent a message via their website before 7am on Monday morning and received a phone call less than two hours later. Regretfully they could not do the work that day and made an appointment for Tuesday between 10 and noon. I got a phone call a little after 9 on Tuesday morning and they asked if they could come before the scheduled time. My answer was OF COURSE! There was nothing major wrong with the system, and my HVAC was back in business in about an hour. Worker was prompt, professional, and knowledgeable. I made the mistake of calling ARS for service when my blower stopped working and the technician quoted me over $4K for repairs and tried to convince me that I needed to replace my entire HVAC system. I called Frankie for a second opinion after looking up local HVAC shops in the area and he was honest from the get-go and extremely skeptical about some of the things the ARS technician had told me. His technician Craig, came over the next day and ended up quoting me less than $1K for the repair. They also managed to get a replacement blower motor right away and complete the install the very next morning. Simply outstanding service and I cannot recommend them highly enough. However pricing of R22 with most providers including these guys is pretty outrageous. Not impressed with Icy Hot. Took him about four hours to call me back. He couldn't come out for three days after we called. Seemed unfriendly on the phone. It was like he didn't have time to talk to me. He spent less than 30 minutes at my house and determined my heat pump compressor was bad. I asked him for a quote on a new system. He said he would provide me a qoute by Monday. That was on a Friday. I never heard back from him. I wonder how he could advise me on a new system without coming in the house. He said he didn't need to do load calculations or take meaturements. These guys might be okay to do simple repairs but I would stay away from them with major repairs. We ended up using Mitchell Heating in Cooling out of Rolesville for our new heat pump system. Allen Mitchell the owner is awesome. Our Nest thermostat went haywire and he was at the house within 45 minutes on the Friday after Christmas. I installed the Nest so it wasn't even his fault. He didn't charge me one dime! read more

Frankie came out 2 hours after I called on a Sunday, and was able to repair both of my A/C units which had gown down within about 1.5 hours. Everything he said added up and he seemed pretty honest. Prices seemed about average - obviously when you call out the repair man you're going to pay. It seems to be a one person operation (I don't know this for sure), but with everything needed (including skills and knowledge) to repair your hvac components. My AC went out a week ago. Luckily the weather was getting cooler out so I was in no rush. I called Frankie at Icy Hot on Satruday and he said he can come over on Sunday. YES, SUNDAY. not even 12 hours after I called. Who does that? He came over, opened up my AC panel and immediately found the problem, a bug got fried in my capacitor and that caused my problem. Frankie went to his van, brought some parts and swapped out the bad parts for good ones and now my AC works. Talk about great customer service!! I was just expecting him to open up the AC, see whats wrong and tell me he can some by Monday and fix it. But he was able to do it right away. Other companys wanted to charge me a diagnostics fee first or a maintenance fee just to get in there to see what the problem was. Some other company said I am better off replacing my whole unit because it looked like it was struck by lightening. Frankie was real with me. Recently, one of our AC units stopped working. Frankie made arrangements to come to our house the next day between 9:00 and 11:00. By 9:30 the day of appointment, Frankie was on the phone to me to let me know it looked like his current appointment was going to go late and he wanted to let me be aware of this and see if it would still work with my schedule. Great communication! (By the way, he wasn't late, but it was great to know he cares enough to call ahead.) After replacing a blown fuse, the unit was still not working. It was clear that there was an electrical issue. Although I had preferred to get it taken care of immediately, I was impressed that Frankie was professional enough to recognize he is not an electrician. However, he gave me a few ideas of what he thought it might be and, as it turned out, it was a simple issue I was able to fix myself with the info he gave me. Five minutes after leaving my house, he called and asked if he could come back since there was one more thing he wanted to try as a last ditch effort. Though it didn't work, again I was impressed that he cared enough to take even more time trying to resolve the problem. Frankie was very knowledgeable, responsive, has great communication, professional, courteous. His fee for the visit was $15+ less than I've paid in the past. Our lower level heat went out day before Thanksgiving. I called Frank at Icy Hot Heating and Air Conditioning after the holiday weekend (Thank goodness we had a mild week). He was very accommodating with his schedule and arraigned a service call based on my needs. He arrived with his assistant this morning at exactly the schedule time and promptly inspected the inside portion of the heating system. Next he inspected the outdoor portion I call the "BEAST". Within minutes the Icy Hot HVAC team diagnosed the problem and fixed it. Frank took the time to give me a five minute tutorial on how a gas pack system works and what to look for when problems arise. I know (and so does he) our unit is on its last leg and it is only a matter of time before the "BEAST" is graciously retire to the HVAC yard in the sky. With that agreed upon, he also logged the model and parts numbers of my unit so in the future he will know exactly what he needs to get the job done before he comes out! I can not recommend any other HVAC company more than Icy Hot Heating and Air Conditioning! When your furnace is blowing cold air, obviously the first thought going through your mind is how bad this is going to be. When it happens around Christmas time...well, you get the idea. Our furnace had been blowing cold air, off and on, for awhile and we just kind of put on another layer and ignored it. When it worked, we were ecstatic. Well, with the upcoming sub-freezing temperatures forecast, we knew we had to bite the bullet and get it looked at. Our central air conditioning system was cooling the first floor of our home but not the second floor. I reached out to Icy Hot Heating and Air Conditioning via Yelp, and they responded immediately. Other companies had at least a one-day wait, but Icy Hot was able to come out the same day. Frankie, the owner of this company, quoted a fair service call fee and was able to make arrangements on the spot. He was in constant communication with me through phone calls and text messages, keeping me updated on their arrival window. Frankie arrived at my home in just a couple of hours, along with one of his technicians, and diagnosed the problem in less than 5 minutes. He was careful to share & demonstrate exactly what was going on with our HVAC, and offered two options to resolve the problem, without pushing either option. I felt the best option was to replace a part on the system, which they had on-hand and were able to replace immediately. Frankie was fantastic!! Of course my heat stops working on the coldest day of the year. Called multiple companies who said they couldn't come until the next day. Called Frankie and he was at my house in an hour. Thoroughly checked everything and explained the problem in detail.
