Unassumingly great! Honestly I was not expecting to love this place as much as I did! The dosa fillings were excellent and not at all gimmicks! The ghee smelled so fresh and inviting. The masala was perfectly balanced the keema was not over powering! Service was fast and friendly and they seem to be able to host large groups if that's what you need. Plenty of parking outside. Overall love. Improvements: the dosa batter needed a little more fermentation to get to the exactly correct point and the filter coffee needed more decoction. read more

As someone who's always craving that authentic South Indian flavor, especially Hyderabadi-style, I've been on the hunt for something that takes me back home. Finally, my search ended with Idli Dosa Cafe, and I must say, it came very close to hitting the mark. Let's start with the ambiance--it's a notch above the usual South Indian cafes in the area. The open seating is a personal favorite, especially with the string lights hanging above. I can only imagine how magical the vibe would be at night, with the lights adding a cozy yet lively feel. The dosas here are truly reminiscent of what you'd find in Hyderabad. They're smeared with all the good stuff--upma, special garlic chutney, karam podi, cheese, butter, paneer, onions, tomatoes, and more. I've tried almost all their special varieties, and each dosa has its own charm. Vijayawada Paneer Dosa was an absolute standout. The flavors were bold and fiery, with chunky, tender paneer cubes coated in a sauce that added the perfect balance of heat and tang. The dosa itself was crispy on the edges and soft in the middle, complementing the spiced paneer filling beautifully. It's the kind of dosa that leaves a lingering kick of spice, and I couldn't get enough of it. Jini Dosa was a delightful surprise, with Amul cheese giving it that comforting homely touch, mixed with crunchy peppers for a Mumbai street food vibe. Hyderabadi Bandi Dosa was exactly what the name promises--upma, garlic chutney, karam podi, and loads of butter. It instantly reminded me of those bandis back in Hyderabad. The Matka Dosa was both a visual and culinary treat. The cheesy masala on top of the dosa looked amazing, and serving more masala in a little matka on the side was such a nice touch. The sambar here deserves a special mention--rich, flavorful, and comforting. The chutneys, while good, left me longing for that peculiar Hyderabadi-style peanut chutney. That said, the mint chutney was refreshingly flavorful. Coming to the idlis, I noticed a big improvement from my last visit--they're much softer now and have that lovely grainy texture. The Idli 65 deserves a special shoutout. It's fried perfectly, sautéed in a spicy curry, and honestly, I couldn't stop eating it. Definitely a must-try if you visit. For anyone like me who's missing the flavors of home, Idli Dosa Cafe is a great spot to check out. Wednesday 4PM, not much people, ordered an Andhra Karam Dosa and it was DELICIOUS! It's one of the spiciest food listed on the menu, but it wasn't that spicy for me; still, give it a try if you love spicy foods. The interior is clean, modern, and air smelled fresh. Their dosas were good, but didn't like their sambhar(too thick) and chutney had no salt. I have tired their veg signature dosa at other outlet and it was definitely better than this one! We dined here for post-noon brunch and had a disappointing experience. Two stars for the food (Signature dosas are mindbogling) and we love their classics too! Ambiance is good and it has an above standard restrooms for an Indian restaurant. While we appreciate attentive service, the staff were quite insistent about taking orders. The experience detriments when we got served in cans for our drinks. It wasn't just our table; we noticed similar interactions at neighboring tables, where servers repeatedly approached guests without allowing them time to enjoy their meals or make decisions. Came here for the first time in a month and I feel like they've improved and gotten even better! The Matka Dosa is my new favorite and the sauce that comes with it is divine! The uttapam was very good as well super flavorful. The service has gotten faster and the servers give great recommendations. It's usually very busy but the table turnover rates are very fast. Featured in a SF news article as one the best SouthEast Asian Restaurants in TriValley Area. It is at the entrance to Stoneridge Mall. The waitress was very helpful introducing us to the various Dosas which were like hardened crepes filled with Indian spices. We tried a combo which also had a variety of appetizers and all dipped into 3 types of sauces. Were were one of a few only non Indians on site during lunch as was a pleasant place for families. All of the chutneys and sambar were really well balanced and flavorful. Staff are attentive, fast, and kind -- they came around asking if we needed refills of chutneys which we so appreciated. My recent visit to ID Cafe in Pleasanton was a non-starter. We entered the place at around 7 PM. Moment we stepped in, we were greeted with a strong smell. It was a typical finail (or Dettol) smell, which is a chemical used to clean the floors. We could not stay their for more than 15 seconds.. had to leave. While I appreciate their want for cleanliness, they should do so before or after customer hours. Customers (like me ) can be sensitive to the smell. Something to improve upon. As a former server/bartender I am very patient and understanding with servers, but I also understand what customer service is supposed to look like, and that was not it... and I try to give the benefit of the doubt when it's busy, but It was not busy enough for the poor service we received. I have been here several times now. Food is good. Ambiance is good except for loud music for fairly empty restaurant time. It's a good pit stop for me when I shop at Stoneridge or I do stroller walks in the mall. But the service here is hit or miss.. Always there is one waiter who is super nice and one other who tries to make you leave as early as possible even when the place is fairly empty... I would understand if they had too many people waiting for tables that you would rush customers to leave .. but when I am there with my 4 month old baby and trying to rush me out was NOT cool. My sense was that they were not happy that I dined in alone with my baby and my bill was just for 1 person?! Flavor is extremely bland and only holds one tone - oily and mild spiciness; no complex or evolving spices that show. Dosa looks crispy but it's extremely soggy on the bottom because of oil -- the oil wasn't flavorful, it seemed they brushed pure vegetable oil and it was gross. All three dips are bland and not flavorful at all. They also have the same consistencies, including the soup -- very very watery. I had chai which is absolutely not worth $4 for a Starbucks kid cup size. It isn't creamy tasting - basically like a hot coca packet added with hot water. Couldn't take it to finish the meal. Everything felt like it came out of a can or microwave. What an absolute shame. Also, the table I sat at was not balanced -- something staff should know and fix being they wipe down tables. Sugar cup for chai was stained from previous patrons. STAY AWAY from this place. There's a better Indian in here that feels like a hole but extremely tasty. read more
