Tonight at the Dublin Farmers Market was our final reality check. We ordered the chicken and ribs combo, and the meat was incredibly dry, heavily charred, and so tough it felt like eating jerky. To make matters worse, they served the side of cucumber salad in a lidless plastic container wrapped only in thin foil--which predictably spilled everywhere. Last week, they sold out by noon, so this week, I made sure that I got there early. There were plenty of options at around 10:30 a.m. The team is so nice and friendly. Their system is highly efficient, and there are just the right amount of cooks in the kitchen. The cashier was so sweet. He remembered my family from last week even though I came without them this week. Support this business, and they will not disappoint. They have crispy pork, tofu, and chicken banh mi. They also sell Vietnamese coffee, which I will have to try next time. The large banh mi is $15, and a small is $10. The food was incredibly fresh, and the bun was just perfect--crispy on the outside and soft inside, just like the ones in Little Saigon in San Jose. I'm so excited to have something like this nearby! The business is family-run, and you can really feel the warmth and care they put into their food and service. The coffee is out of this world--so delicious and definitely a must-try! The pickles in the banh mi were flavorful and balanced everything perfectly. Service was friendly, quick, and welcoming. Found this dessert stand at the Alameda County Fair (in the carnival section), and the fancy gelato…read moremilkshakes on their menu caught my eye. Instead of just plain chocolate, their dark knight milkshake is a mountain of chocolate cake, chocolate fudge, and chocolate sprinkles, all on top of the chocolate gelato blend. And the grasshopper milkshake features peppermint and oreo cookies and crumbles, along with Andes mint candy (my fave) decorating the mint chocolate chip gelato mix. Too many tempting choices, but I had to go with the strawberry shortcake milkshake, made with fresh strawberries, whipped cream, angel cake, and topped off with chocolate fudge and crushed graham crackers... so many layers of flavor I just couldn't resist. As it turns out, the graham cracker crumbs are mainly for decoration, most of it pretty much glued to the plastic mug (not edible). And what shined in this dessert was the "shortcake", not the strawberry. Besides those 3 strawberries on top, I actually didn't get much strawberry flavor from the shake itself. Slightly disappointing, but like I said, the sponge cake and toppings were fresh and tasty, and the gelato wasn't bad, just lacking a sweetness and tartness that you get from actual strawberries, tasted almost watered down. Luckily, the presentation of the drink (served with both a spoon and straw) almost makes up for that. And I love that 50% of their profits go to charity. They're based in Atascadero, but travel to different events and festivals all over, currently at the fair in Pleasanton this summer. Overall, the product and service is decent, with unique offerings on their menu like churro sandwiches which I find intriguing even if I'm more of a milkshake kinda gal. If they sold this outside of the fair, I'd probably become a regular. I'm not surprised at all that they won first place for this food item.
