    Ideal Food Basket

I learned about this supermarket when I began receiving its sales flyer in the mail; so while I was out shopping today and was in the area, I decided to stop by and quickly check out the place. Located along Dania Beach Blvd., Ideal Food Basket (used to be Winn-Dixie) is a large supermarket that caters to the American, Hispanic, and Caribbean population. The market is clean with organized aisles. Surprisingly there were a few people shopping so the atmosphere was very quiet. I could actually think while walking each aisle and I didn't have to worry about standing in a long line or making sure people kept their distance from me. You can find a vast variety of items such as fruits, produce, packaged meats & seafood, frozen items, baby & pet care, beverages - including beer & wine, health & beauty, grocery & international items, and many more. There's a butcher (meat), seafood, and deli department; as well as a juice bar. Yes, I can see myself shopping here. Most of the items are priced reasonably where I was able to find a loose onion for under $1 and some ripe plantains priced 2 for $1. The selection of meats looked fresh which I like and the supermarket seems to have the majority of the items I frequently purchase in stock. I was informed by one of the employees that the supermarket has been open for two months. I hope it does well and stays open, Dania Beach needs a local supermarket in the area.

Another supermarket market other than Publix. The difference between this supermarket and the other is that they offer a large goya and other hispanic brands. Their prices are somewhat cheaper depending on what you are looking for. The store is not fancy but it is very large. It's great to have choices and I have been coming here for their juice's and fresh fruits. Definitely a great addition to the area.

Visited for the first time and won't be my last. Loved the international products, prices and selection. Can't wait to try some of the "fun" items. Flowers, wine, produce, they have it all.

Don't let the name fool you, IDEAL Food Basket is more than just a thing you use to carry food in, it's a full-fledged supermarket replete with produce, meats, frozen novelties, servants, fish mongers, air conditioning, Chips Ahoy, beans, Doritos, huevos, frying cheese, Corona Light, Bok Choy, shopping carts, graphic signage, Spanish ham, fancy sweet potatoes, frozen fried meat pastries, toilet paper, giant cheese ball containers, wine, etc.... and yes, food baskets to carry your soon-to-be-procured items in. It's tucked away in a sleepy, inconspicuous shopping plaza in the heart of soon-to-be-gentrified Dania Beach. Rumor has it, this used to be the same building that housed a Winn-Dixie way back when. They were probably pushed out for being racist fear-merchants with a name like that. If you're a counter-social Covid commando like myself, this is the perfect place to be. I counted about only 4 other humans shopping, excluding my ladyfriend and myself, and about the same number of servants stooped at their selling posts and ALL wearing appropriate facial coverings. This was on a Saturday night, mind you. (Weekends are the new every other day). Going to this new market would be the most exciting thing I'd do all week. They keep all of the produce right at the front of the store to make you feel bad by the time you get to the Ho-Hos, Chicharones, and White Castle Jalapeño cheeseburgers you came there to get. My Ladyfriend was elated to find all of the accoutrements from her mother country (viva Peru!) plus all of the obscure veggies she needed for some weird soup she wanted to make. Their modest wine selection boasted a specific title I had never heard of before called "Culitos." That's "little asses" for you uninitiated gringos. Almost half of one of the aisles is dedicated to beans. They've got every type of bean you can shake a spoon at. And yes, many alternatives to the recently cancelled Goya variety. In ambiance, Ideal market conjures up memories of markets passed. The different sections have on display bold typographical solutions in the vein of Lucky's Market (RIP) most likely inspired by the vintage-modern Czechoslovakian signwriter typefaces of the early 1900's. The down-home, working class aesthetic and occasional fruit fly call to mind Penn Dutch (RIP), a local market which stood behind the innuendo-laced slogan "Nobody Beats Our Meats." A slogan which in fact reigned true as nobody could touch their filet mignon deals back in that day. You'd be hard-pressed to find an equal cut anywhere else cept for maybe Peter Luger's (yeah, ex-New Yawker here! Whaat, foggetaboutit). Speaking of New York, a quick google search of Ideal yields comparisons to NY market staple C-Town, at one point in time a Brooklyn oasis of pig's feet, cramped aisles, and expensive ginger sodas I would deal with for my weekly shopping needs. "Where shopping is a pressure." I'd rather deal with Ideal. Like I said, not many people shopping in the store so the fish monger and deli servant looked rather lonely at their posts, not like the deli at Publix which at most times resembles a DMV. We decided to procure some provisions from the nice deli servant. The deli servant had never heard of roast beef so we decided to go with some Jamón Serrano and Provolon. My ladyfriend did all the talking as she generally develops a camaraderie with her own people. The prices are pretty nice. The fancy coffee my ladyfriend usually buys was only $7 instead of $10. Although we bought some frozen lobster meat for $13 and it actually turned out to be pretty gross. You get what you paid for! Frozen croquetta game on point though. I deal with a number of food merchants on the regular (Publix, Aldis, Trader Joe, Hole Foods) and I have to say in the midst of a pandemic there is no better place than Ideal. It's "ideal." Plus, it's s short car ride from home, the full duration of one No Doubt song to be exact. PROS: Obscure South American products galore, innuendo-laced alcohol, friendly servants, lack of human bodies. There's a pizza hut express in the same plaza. CONS: Ideal is easy to miss as there are big trees blocking the sign from the street. It would be ideal to cut those trees down. There's a Wells Fargo ATM in the same plaza. I tried to get some cash there a long time ago and it ate my card!

I tried to purchase a product that was not available at this store. I went to customer service the girl did not know how to check if other Publix in the city carry product. She at least got the grocery manager. He did not know how to check other stores. Said he can request the product and can call me when they get the product. That was waste of my time. How are employees not trained to use an application to cross reference other stores to help locate a product if it is available. Now I have to manually drive to each Publix to see for myself. This is how companies lose business to their competitors. There has to be some training done by district managers to lower management and to front store staff as well. I'm very disappointed

Welcome to Dania Beach, FL (2 of 2)…read more I don't know where they are headquartered, but I definitely associate Publix with (South) Florida. They have also been serving the Metro Atlanta area for a fairly long time at this juncture. Along the shopping area on the south side of Dania Beach Blvd. between Federal Highway and the beach is this Publix store. There is plenty of parking and it's a nice store both inside and out. There are some items, mostly groceries, where you'll want to opt for a respectable full-service supermarket and not Dollar Tree, which I will also patronize while in Dania Beach. I would say that, in terms of prices and service, Publix would appeal to those who like Safeway and Vons on the West Coast, and it seems to mimic the same price point levels. If you look around, you will find items that will be better bargains than items adjacent to them on the shelves. However, this is a condition that seems to rotate ... different brands seemingly take turns offering discounts. The service has always been helpful. The only area that might take a little bit longer is having to get something done at the service counter. There's something else where Publix stands out. They have large smart looking recycling bins right in front of the store. You don't have to be a granola-head to recycle and I laugh when I excitedly recycle because granola-heads and I are definitely not tribe. However, it's the right thing to do. Yet, in Florida, it can be challenging because libraries, interstate rest stops, and civic places you'd expect to be able to recycle things you've accumulated in your car don't have the bins for it. That said, this Publix has my business when in the area and, in general, it's a supermarket chain I tend to patronize because I can shop there and recycle a few things at the same time. I recommend this Dania Beach supermarket.

Hard to find a spot and usually carts left in parking lot and no carts in store. The lines aren't very long, I've been here before, with 2-3 registers open and a line nearly half way back through the store so appear to have staffing issues. As of recently, it also seems like there's a whole section of women's clothing missing. I came across sportswear, bathing suits, and plus sized but maybe that's all Walmarts as it's maybe a biannual trip for me.
