Their food never disappoints! This time around I ordered the Vegetarian #5. It comes with a cheese quesadilla, bean burrito, and cheese enchilada. I am not a fan of the sauce that usually comes on the enchiladas so I simply ask them not to and it comes out just right! The sauce is just a weird sweet taste to me but I am sure it taste good to others! They give you a good amount of food but the other entrees can be on the pricey side. Just ehh. Our "server" was too busy. I can over look being in the weeds, but we we're never checked on after the food was dropped off. If the food is perfect, I will over look. But nobody really liked their dish. Whatever. But when the salad has no salad dressing and you can't eat it, it becomes a problem. This is the second time been here. A decade in between. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Not only is is right down the street from my apartment, but I would drive any distance to go eat at this place because it is that good! The Manager there is always super nice!! He always talks to us and I appreciate seeing him actually work and help out his employees. I have tried a couple of dishes before but my all time favorite is the Chicken Chimichanga. Of course you can't start any meal without ordering cheese dip and I'll have to say it is the bomb!! It always tastes so fresh and has the perfect consistency. It's never a long wait for food either which is something else I greatly appreciate. I even went with a group of 9 people and we all had our food and drinks within 35 minutes and they were packed! I am also very impressed with their decorating...such a good vibe as soon as you walk in. They have all sorts of colorful lights and fun paintings on the walls which I love to look at. Me and my family went to this place this las saturday, once the hostess saw us, we are and hispanic family, they start acting with high level on racism against us, we 're 6 members on my family 3 kids brothers in law and my wife, hostess said they had no tables, and the waiting was 30 min, than 5 seconds later 2 families 5 each group they took them and immediately take a table for them, and they treat us so bad, they show so much racism against us. Though until I return, this is MY experience with eating man times at Iguana Grill! Most authentic Mexican food you'll have in Bham, other than tracking down one of the local food trucks. I've had a variety of things on the menu and all of them have been great! From burritos to tacos, fajitas and chimichangas, beans and rice, 2 kinds of salsa dip etc etc... All very delish! Prices are definitely fair as well. Drinks are made well and the decor is amazing! I've never been here with anybody who wasn't very appreciative of the decor, atmosphere and vibe of this restaurant. Appropriate for any and all ages to visit. Not a sports bar but in the evenings, it is common to have LARGE groups dining in. Whether a group of coworkers or a birthday party. *Note:* Parking can get slim in the early evenings when people get off from work and want some great food and drinks, because they know Iguana Grill is the place to be! I've eaten of the Iguana Grill a few times over the years. It's always been a little pricey, but the food was decent. our visit tonight started with cold tortilla chips. I waited at least 10 minutes and then finally had to ask for water to drink. When I looked at the menu, I noticed that everything had gone up quite a bit. I opted for the $16 shrimp taco salad. To begin with it was small, and the shrimp were cold and seemed like they had been laying around for a long time. The salad itself was soggy. The bathroom was also filthy. Love everything about this place. The decor is gorgeous. The service is great and the food is too. They bring you regular chips and salsa, but ask for the "black salsa." It is unique and something you can't get anywhere else (also free). You can get all the Mexican restaurant classics like quesadillas, chimichanga, fajitas, but they also have a lot of different options that are more authentic Mexican dishes. I got the Chuletas on my last visit. Two big pork chops, rice, beans with sausage and bacon, salad and tortillas. I could only eat about half of it there was so much. While on a work trip we turned to the trusty Yelp app to find a place to eat. Not familiar with the town at all we were pondering the thought of going for BBQ. When in Alabama right? However, for some reason the thought of delicious margaritas and chips and salsa were much more appealing that night. Using GPS and finding Iguana we were brought to a very authentic strip mall filled with not only the Mexican restaurant but a Latin American grocery store. We were definitely in the right place. Close to the mall and major roadways Iguana is in a prime location. Tucked back a bit it is away from the loud traffic and on a Monday night was not too crowded. The décor was fantastic. Amazing light fixtures and cool wall decorations filled the room. We were sat in a booth and the staff greeted us with smiles and appreciation for our business. We both ordered margaritas. I tried the traditional and my coworker had the flavored margarita. We were both pleased with the "Jumbo" size fishbowls that were brought to us. Chips and salsa were phenomenal. The salsa had just the right amount of kick! When asking for seconds, our waitress brought us a second "brown" salsa for us to try along side their traditional. This one was great too. Had a smokey BBQ taste and it was just as delicious as the first. We were both starving, so ordered giant portions. (Regretting that later, boy were we full!) I had the tilapia which was cooked to flaky perfection. It was a very large fillet, topped with a chipotle cream sauce that just the right amount of heat. My coworker tried a shrimp chipotle burrito which was HUGE but I was told was great! We skipped dessert but we were very pleased with the Iguana. I always give this place a hard time due to the interior constantly making me think of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, or some high school's junior prom. But aside from a little playful ribbing, I never have anything short of a good experience at Iguana Grill. So far after several visits over the past year and across different servers and food selections, the service and dining has been consistently good. And each time I've been, there's been a healthy number of other patrons eating there as well, so its popularity is evident. If I could change one thing about the place it'd be that the prices of certain items be reduced by a small amount (couple of bucks or so) - some of the menu options seem to be a bit pricey relative to other, comparable mexican restaurants. But I will say that you get pretty generous portions, so at the very least you're not spending a lot just to leave still slightly hungry. One of my favorite dishes there is the Classic Quesadilla (chicken), so that plus what seems like my body weight in chips and salsa and I stumble out of the place like a true glutton. :) I don't eat at Iguana as often as I'd expect I would, but that works out - I'm always more than satisfied with the experience having not visited in a while, and I'm safe from the *restaurant burnout* I get when hitting the same places over and over again. For someone considering giving it a try or a retry, don't hesitate - it's well worth the visit. read more

I don't know if we just selected poorly off the menu or if all the food is lacking, but neither of our entrees tasted that great. The worst thing I ordered was shrimp cocktail. The presentation is lovely but the shrimp were TINY (like cheap salad shrimp toppings) and the cocktail glass had more avocado chunks than shrimp. On top of that, it was lukewarm. Bleh. We used to eat here frequently but the last time we went they decided to charge us an extra $4 per kids meal because my kids asked for cheese on their enchiladas. They didn't inform us about the extra charge and refused to remove it afterwards. The entire kids meal was $4 so charging an extra $4 for cheese and not telling us was just bad business.
