Ihawan is the best Filipino food I've had since moving to New York from SoCal. Walking in, I love that the first thing you see is a photo collage of celebrities and pseudo-celebrities taking pictures with the staff. I especially love that Ron Artest appears to be a frequent diner-- anything good enough for Ron Ron is good enough for me. Their crispy pata is off the chain delicious, and their calamansi and halo-halo deserve kudos as well. Their kare kare seems like it's made with all sorts of happy. Of course, all of this hinges on whether or not you're the type of person whose willing to trek to Queens, navigate an inconspicuous and unmarked stairwell, and THEN wait 15 minutes for a table for some Filipino comfort food. But, after all is said and done, the destination is definitely more rewarding than the journey. I'm so deep. The journey back (after you're stuffed and borderline comatose), however, is a different story altogether. P1noy for life. read more

Wife and I love coming here for their breakfast specials on Friday and Saturday. The BBQ pork is great and Lumpia Shanghai is very good. The Halo Halo is also one of the best we've had. The service is good IF you get one of the better waiter/waitresses. The young man and woman who usually man the cash register are great. The woman who make the drinks plus Halo Halo is awesome! If you encounter the others, just know that you need to be really persistent before you get some attention thrown your way. read more

Annoying thing is that they don't allow outside food. Therefore even a birthday cake isn't allowed FYI. The waiters did allow us to have our cake but told us no outside food for future references. Customer service is alright-good. Food is pretty much what everyone else says. Lechon kawali is deep fried so how can anything be wrong with that? Fatty but still has a strong pork flavor. I like the fried tilapia because there aren't any bones^^. BBQ pork belly is alright- I like my food with more seasoning. Must try is the mango shake, cantaloupe drink, lime slush (refreshing but not enough; on the sweet side). Pancit bihon was good, nothing beats my filipino best friend's homemade one though. I always feel at home when I come here. I love Filipino food a lot because I don't have home cooked meals and this makes me appreciate it even more. The food reminds me of my Lola's cooking. The chicken and pork BBQ are the best items on the menu, closely followed by the fried bangus and lechon. That said, everything is delicious. Take out is a great option here. I've been here more times than I can count and am likely to continue to return. The negatives are that it's not fancy, it's located on the second story of a building and The service is slow, especially around weekend brunch. I have been going to ihawan for a long time with my family. I went to eat lunch with my family today and I am finally writing a review. We were eating and the restaurant got really busy and people were waiting. The waiter had the nerve to ask us to hurry up eating because there were others waiting. He then decided to clean our table without our permission. It was so unprofessional. We are paying customers and we should not be rushed eating. I will never go back to this place again. read more

Great family owned spot for traditional and authentic Filipino dining! Delicious food and friendly, attentive staff. The menu has an ample selection to choose from. My wife and I first tried Filipino Barbeque in Boracay. It was incredible. I was concerned about trying Filipino Barbeque here in the states, but Ihawan's Chicken BBQ is so good. The pickled papaya is tangy and sweet, and adds a ton of flavor to the chicken and rice. When we got to dessert I was full, but the Halo-halo was too good to pass up. It is the best Halo-halo I have ever had. It is not too sweet, but still is a refreshing and very tasty dessert. I highly recommend Ihawan. read more

We always come here. For the price and good food, you can't beat it. I usually order the chicken bbq meal which comes without bones, with rice and atchara (look it up, kinda hard to describe), which is only $6.50. I had the lumpiang sariwa, which is composed of different vegetables with a soft (unfried) wrapper garnished with sweet sauce and crushed peanuts. Thats what i usually get when we come here and my wife usually gets different dishes and for the most part they are good. So many desserts to choose from. I suggest try them ALL. One big down fall of this place and my only complain is that service isn't good, not even average...ok at best. Every time I come here, they never disappoint. Since i was a kid I always came here with my family, then we go to the phil am right across the street. We always order the chicharon bulaklak, which is really good. I could literally eat two whole plates, which wouldn't be healthy at all. I went there with a friend because I never had flip food and wanted to try authentic filipino food so she suggested this one. I love to try pretty much everything and have to try everything because I'm currently studying to become a chef at French Culinary Institute so I need knowledge of different ethnic cuisines and so far i've been happy with my food adventures until I came to this place. Didn't really excite me, the place was extremely low budget, you would've thought the owners would make the place a little nicer since they have a strong filipino clientele. The bbq was indeed good and thats pretty much the only item you can rely on because well you can NEVER go wrong with BBQ from any part of the world! I also had Kare-kare (oxtail stew) and it honestly didn't taste anything and it was cold. (I'm not sure if it was supposed to be cold?) But since taking a sanitation class, I was kind of scared. Also had Menudo the beef was hard and I couldn't even chew it but the tomato-y sauce was ok. Every food other than the BBQ was too bland. I also had the coconut drink which is basically from a Thai canned drink with ice. and my friend had a Sago(?) and it was overwhelmingly sweet and the tapiocas tasted like alien rubber. After we left the food just didn't sit in my stomach that well which meant I had to question if the workers there had followed the hygienic guidelines. Bottom line is if this is the most authentic filipino cuisine you can get I wont even think about going anywhere else. If you go there stick to the BBQ and sausages and buy yourselves some Tums. read more

My husband and I travel all the way from the Lower East Side to eat Filipino food in Queens. I have been to Ihawan twice, I thought the food was good, staff were a little rough around the edges but all in all I like the food so I have to get past the fact that their service is sub-par. The first time we went it was late afternoon, not too many people eating and I honestly felt rushed into ordering. I didn't feel welcomed to sit, finish our drinks or talk about the food we had just devoured even though two thirds of the place was empty. The ambiance could use a little work its fluorescent lights and crappy music are a little off putting. If I lived a little closer I would stick to ordering to-go. read more

Authentic Filipino food at its best! Been here back in 90's and I just visited the resto on the Memorial Day weekend. It still the best place to spend your hard earned money on some heartwarming dishes. Of course the barbque pork is always a delectable favorite. But my all time favorite is the crispy pata. If you want the best filipino food in Queens, head straight to Ihawan. The food here is comparable to what my lola cooks, and when it comes to filipino, NO ONE can touch her. Lumpia shanghai is indescribably good. Hot and with the perfect amount of crunch and yummy duck sauce sweetness. Even my hubby (who mind as well have lived in a closet his entire life when it comes to ethnic cuisine) was completely taken over. The pork BBQ is a must, and notice i said PORK, not chicken, although the chicken is delicious as well. I love all filipino food, but my lumpia, my pork BBq and my white rice are extremely important staples in my filipino diet. I was in IHAWAN 1 in woodside with my family just this afternoon july the 15th. After What we experienced, we decided not to go back to that restaurant again. Reasons 1. Customer service, rude! my wife ordered for Avocado shake but it was not served. but the cebuana speaking waitress keeps looking for it on our table asking if it was not really served . then she goes "are you sure? why didn't you call for a follow up?" I never experienced such rudeness in other filipino restaurants. 2. The good taste of food was History. sorry.. 3. Restroom, unsanitary quality. I've gone here with my family here and there. Located on 70th st. If you're doing take out, it's on the first floor and there's plenty of tables located on the 2nd floor for dining in. Really like any of the bbq meats here, they're pretty well known for them and the avocado shake is the best. The food is pretty good, however they're lacking in customer service. This is the best Pinoy restaurant along the Woodside strip! I always get breakfast every Sunday after mass at St. Joan of Arc Church.
