On top of that, he took the time to recommend things to do while we're visiting, which was such a thoughtful touch. We don't live in town, but the downtown area is absolutely amazing, and after this experience, we can't wait to explore it more tomorrow in the daylight. Didn't catch his name but he's been there 2-1/2 years he said. Only knock, had to remind him a couple of times to refill my water. I ordered a burger with an extra patty. No bun, with cheese, onions and mushrooms as I recall. Here were the two oddities. The meal was served with a single patty and the second patty came out 5 minutes later. Made me think they forgot. Also, the 2 patties were different. One was cooked perfectly and moist. Although it was too cold to sit outside, the view from inside was just as nice. Once I started looking around at the room I noticed how outdated and in need of deep cleaning it was. The carpet was stained, our bedding was stained, the wallpaper was peeling off, dirt and grime had gathered in the corners, and there was toothpaste or cleaning spray all over the bathroom mirror and sink. My side of the bed was caving in, so when I laid on my left side I rolled a bit, which makes me think maybe the mattresses need to be replaced. I will say, the pillows were comfy! That evening we ate at the restaurant where we ordered off the menu. I ordered The Falls Burger, which is your basic cheeseburger with the usual toppings - lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, and your choice of cheese. The burger tasted like it was previously frozen, but the fries were delicious! Our waitress, McKenzie, was incredible! She was attentive and friendly and deserves recognition! We ended up back at the lodge restaurant the following evening where they were serving a buffet dinner only, no option to order off the menu. McKenzie was great once again, but unfortunately, the food was not. The buffet consisted of soup, salad, mac-n-cheese, rolls, yellow rice, black eyed peas, BBQ chicken, catfish, carrot cake, pumpkin pie, and apple pie. All of the items I ate were cold and just mediocre. You can imagine my surprise when I saw the $46 bill - $27.99 for an adult and $15.99 for a child. Absurd for the lack of options and for the cold food. (Keep in mind that the closest towns with good dining options are at least 30 mins away.) During nice weather the falls are gorgeous to hike up to and the park is fun to explore, but take note if you have children with you and the weather isn't great, there's not much for them to do. The park itself is beautiful and well worth a trip! And I truly believe the lodge could be brought back to life with a few changes.

Coffee - yummy Country fried steak biscuit..... yea nope not again. It's just like it says just a huge very thin slice of commercial packaged frozen patty of country fried steak laid across an open faced biscuit. I had a side of fresh fruit. But it was mostly out of season fruit so not sweet and still underripe. Biscuit was light and fluffy but I had to order a piece of cheese and some gravy to hide the flavor of the meat and coating. Chicken and waffles - husband's favorite here but today it wasn't the same at all. Chicken was super dry inside. Waffles he described as no different than ones he makes at the hotel lobby. All in all we will wait some before returning to try again at some point. Thank you to the wait staff for always having smiles and helping each other to keep us happy.

Dawn ordered the Cuban breakfast sandwich with potato's and I opted for a waffle, scrambled eggs and bacon. Everything came out hot and well cooked (potatoes were a little peppery) for Dawn's taste. (I loved em) overall it was a great breakfast and the service was good. Prices comparable to the area! Now off to the expedition Bigfoot museum! As this has a good craft beer selection, I opted for one I had not had before and she got a smokey old fashioned. The old fasthioned did not have the cherries or orange peel you would normally see, but was rather strong and did use a rye whiskey. I would not go there for the drink, but reasonably priced. The ambiance is great. Typical of Rome, GA establishments, you can feel the history. They also have a rooftop bar and a separate bar area, for those seeking out a drink or two. Summary: The experience was good, but the food was bland. If you like to heavily salt your food, this might not be as big of a deal. On the whole, 3 stars, for average. Compared to other places in Rome, some of which are really bad, you would prefer this to many places. Nothing really bad to say, but nothing really good. Just average.
