We dined in at the Hilo location this morning and had a (mostly) delightful experience. When we entered the lobby and saw the hostess (we didn't get her name), we were greeted with a "How many?". While we were a bit taken aback a bit since we were expecting a more friendly welcoming, when we were taken to our table, she pointed it at as if we were children being told where to sit. But, we chose to ignore it rather than cause a scene. We were sat in the section closest to the lobby area which was great because of the service we ended up getting from servers Darlene and Nicole. Nicole was the first to approach our table, she greeted us in such a friendly and courteous was that it made us feel as if we were longtime friends. She offered several beverage options and quickly brought us our drinks. Darlene was polite and efficient with taking and bringing our meal choices. They were both humorous and the best servers we've ever had here on this island during our vacation. Our meals were spectacularly delicious and we were very content with our experience (minus the first "greeting" we received.) To the management team of the Hilo IHOP, Darlene and Nicole are amazing workers to have as the face(s) of your restaurant. The cooks are fantastic with how the meals were cooked, plated, and how it tasted. We will be returning when we're in Hawaii again! read more

We've been visiting family this past week in Hilo and decided to stop at the Hilo IHOP for breakfast before catching our flight back home this morninf. We've dined at the IHOPs on Oahu and have thought that that IHOP is overall mediocre. We were pleasantly surprised at how different the Hilo IHOP is compared to it's Oahu locations. The hostess, friendly and inviting, sat us quickly, accommodating our request for a window booth. Shortly after being sat, another friendly worker, I believe her name was Nicole, approached us to take our drink order and she was quick to deliver it to us. Our server, Caroline, soon stopped by and took our breakfast orders. She was also friendly and efficient. Nicole and Caroline continued to check on us, were very pleasant and polite. We couldn't help but feel as if we had been friends with them for years, as if we were guests in their home. Our food was prepared perfectly as well. From the comfortable and cozy ambiance, to the superb customer service, to the cleanliness of the restaurant, to the delicious food, this IHOP in Hilo is the best IHOP in the state. I hate to say it, but the Oahu IHOPs could take a few pointers from this one. When we return to the Big Island, we will be returning to Hilo IHOP. read more

We haven't eaten at the Hilo IHOP for several years after having a negative experience, but ended up going for Father's Day breakfast since they opened before Zippy's. When we entered the lobby, we noticed that there were several other people waiting to be sat, so we gave our name and party number to the hostess. As we waited, we could see the hustle and bustle of the staff in the dining area, and boy was the restaurant busy! We were taken to a table towards the kitchen, and was greeted by a friendly worker, Nicole. She wished my husband a "Happy Father's Day!", and after suggesting a few beverages, she quickly brought us our choices. We started to give her our breakfast order to which she courteously apologized that she wasn't our server and offered to let our server know we were ready to order. Our server Camille was also courteous with taking and efficient with bringing our order. Our food was perfectly appetizing and did not disappoint. Camille and Nicole both checked on us periodically, to which we were very appreciative. With such amazing service, we will be returning more frequently now! I've lived here for years and never thought to try the ihop here since I had such a bad experience back home on oahu. But decided why not give it a try yesterday when we were shopping in the plaza. Their was no greeter but the waitress Suzie noticed us right away and rushed over to greet us. She promptly sat us and even dusted the seat before we sat down! When taking our order I was indecisive but she was patient and gave me some suggestions on what to order. Good came out fast and hot and nicely presented, even nicer then some restaurants that are a little more "higher class". Our cups were never empty for long and we were checked on as we enjoyed our meal. Our waitress must've over heard us talking about our grandson because she let us know about the kids eat free promotion they offer every evening! We even saw as she gave a child some coins to put in their machine to keep him occupied as his parents finished their meal. We will definitely be back! We went for breakfast this morning and were pleasantly surprised at how friendly the staff are. The hostess greeted us sweetly as soon as we stepped into the lobby and made us feel comfortable as we entered the restaurant dining area. After sitting for a couple of minutes, as we browsed the menu, another sweet and polite floor staff member, Nicole, approached, greeted us, and offered a few beverage suggestions to help us decide. She brought them to us quickly. Our server, Caroline, was also friendly and courteous, and very knowledgeable of the menu items. She was efficient and thorough with our orders. Both Nicole and Caroline, stopped to check on us throughout our meal and really made us feel at home. We couldn't help but watch them in amazement. We're here on vacation for a few more days, but we will definitely be returning for more satisfying food and superb service! read more

A bunch of us went to the Hilo IHOP this morning thinking that this place would be mediocre, considering a 3.5 rating on Yelp, but we were pleasantly surprised. The hostess Kailey was friendly and quick to seat us. While looking over the menu options, another worker, I believe her name was Nichole, brought us waters and took our drink order and had a very pleasant demeanor. She must have known that we weren't sure what we'd want to drink, and offered suggestions that weren't even on the menu, for example, a friend pointed out that she'd like a lemonade, and Nichole gave an enhanced offer of a strawberry lemonade, which was delicious! Our server Suzie was friendly, and knowledgeable, great customer service! Suzie and Nichole made sure that our drinks were refilled and that we had everything we needed for a great experience. We've visited other IHOP locations, but our favorite so far is the Hilo location. It was a short wait to be seated as it seemed to be very busy this morning. The hostess (we didn't catch her name) was very accommodating and patient with those waiting in the lobby. After we were seated, a friendly server assistant, Nichole, brought us waters and took our drink order, which she delivered promptly. Our server, Mariah, was courteous and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our meal. Both Mariah and Nichole made our dining experience pleasant and memorable. My wife and I had a good laugh when Nichole came to clear our plates, she asked if we had "tapped out" and offered to take away the "evidence". Very humorous and made us feel like family. The ohana and I dined in today and really enjoyed our experience. The young girl who was hosting, I didn't get her name, was sweet and accommodating. We asked for a booth and was given one next to the window. The service staff was superb! While we were looking at the menus, another worker, I think her name was Nicole, brought us glasses of water (we were very thirsty and and grateful for it) and offered different drink options, since we hadn't looked at the beverage menu yet, we appreciated her suggestions. My daughter tried the Mango Lemonade Splasher (which Nicole suggested) and loved it! Our server, Caroline, efficiently and courteously took our food orders and was very knowledgeable of the menu items. The hubby and I dined in yesterday and were very content with our entire experience. The host, Ben, was pleasant and sat us quickly. While looking over the menu, Nicole, a friendly server assistant, promptly asked if we wanted to start off with coffee, to which we immediately said yes to. We were pleased that Nicole asked what kind of sugar and cream we preferred. Our server Caroline was courteous and efficient with our food order. Both she and Nicole checked on us periodically for drink refills and took time to speak with us, it made us feel like we were good friends of theirs. We were happy when they removed our dishes at the end of our meal and were genuine in thanking us. My wife and I enjoy going to the Hilo IHOP, especially in the morning. The food is consistently cooked well and the service staff are impeccable. We've had several different servers when we go there, but our favorites are Darlene and Caroline, along with their assistant Nicole. They have very pleasant and humorous personalities, knowledgeable of food/beverage items, accommodating with requests, and efficient in customer service. Hats off the the cooks in the mornings, my omelets have never disappointed. Our favorite breakfast spot in the state. If I were to make a suggestion, I'd suggest folks visit this location in the morning. When passing you cant resist the smell of syrup ! and the cleanness of the restaurant is way better than kens.. As soon as I got there I got seated and greeted quickly by the hostess and to long after server came and introduced herself and made us feel welcome. We normally eat at Zippys in the morning, but being that we had a lot to do today, we decided to get an early breakfast and went to the Hilo IHOP. The host, that greeted us was pleasant and friendly, we believe her name was Lexis. After we sat down, a server named Nicole approached our table, greeted us cheerfully and offered beverage choices to get us started. She brought our drinks swiftly and answered questions we had about the menu. Another server, Caroline, was efficient and knowledgeable with our food order. All in all, we had a really awesome customer experience. We also noticed that the workers were all very friendly and courteous even though they were busy. A friend and I dined at the Hilo IHOP on 01/30/22 in the morning. We were seated nearest to the front entrance and our server, Darlene, was excellent! She was prompt, humorous, and friendly. Our food came out hot and delicious, we were very content with our meal. However, the female server assistant in the section we were in was quite unfriendly, short in her approach, and didn't seem to take any pride in her job. I believe her name was Summer. I don't know if that's just how she is, but, not the kind of customer service we were expecting, which is unfortunately why I'm giving 4 stars. Our family loves the IHOP in our home state, but after dining at the Hilo location, this location is amazing! As soon as we walked into the lobby area we were greeted with an "Aloha!" by the hostess. She made us feel so welcomed with her positive, friendly attitude. After we sat and were looking over the menu, the beverage server, Nicole, sweetly greeted us again and courteously offered beverage suggestions to help us decide. Caroline, our server, was also courteous and very knowledgeable of the menu items. She brought our meals efficiently and made sure to check on us throughout our meal. The Hilo IHOP is a really good family restaurant. They have the best burgers in town and, from what my wife says, the best coffee. Better to go in the morning though. For us, we've never had a bad experience when we go in the morning. The service in the morning is really on-point and the floor staff are super nice and friendly. And bruh, even the food is awesome and comes out in good time. The busser guys/girls keep the restaurant really clean too, we appreciate that, especially with COVID still going around. Been to several IHOP locations across the country, but the Hilo location has been the best experience by far. Friendly staff, satisfying menu items, and pleasant ambience. I highly recommend this restaurant. Here are a few tips: 1. Weekend mornings tend to the busiest time, be mindful that you may need to wait a short while to be seated as they are following social distancing guidelines. 2. Staff member Nicole introduced us to a beverage called the Tropical Twist, and it was surprisingly delicious. She was courteous, friendly, and efficient. 3. If possible, ask for server Caroline. We have always loved IHOP. The food was always great and the service impeccable. Went a few times the last 2 weeks and left a bit disappointed. The food was as we expected, delicious and appealing. But the service, bleh! Our server, Darlene, spoke with such an annoying shrillness to her voice that it was like listening to nails being dragged across a chalkboard. The server who got our drinks....won't even go there, just one word, incompetent. Next time, we'll remember to ask for Caroline. We do hope that Nicole returns, it isn't the same without her as it was both she and Caroline who made us frequently return to IHOP. read more

Hadn't eaten at the Hilo IHOP in a few years and am happy to say that after our experience today, we will become regulars. After a short wait in the lobby to be seated (it was pretty busy when we got there), one of the workers, I believe her name was Nicole, cheerfully greeted us and offered drink suggestions to start our meal, of course we went with coffee. Our server Mariah was awesome! She and Nicole were both friendly and efficient. Our food was hot upon delivery and scrumptious! The spinach and mushroom omelet was so delicious!
