Todays lunch was the third meal in a row that was bad there. My friends soup was room temperature, at best, and my Rueben was burnt on the bottom. It was supposed to be corned beef, but had a mix of pastrami and very fatty corned beef, and was topped with a slice of melted cheese that had clearly been out a while as the edges were rubbery.....To top it all off our waitress was rude and walked away while we were in the middle of inquiring about the soups available. After that we waited 15 minutes for her to come back to take our order watching her chit chatting other customers. Since we were on our lunch break and service was so slow, we asked for the check when our food came out. She did bring it but failed to come back once to ask how the food was or if we needed refills. When asked at checkout how everything was and we said not great the manager was less than helpful. To his credit he did offer to make me something else but I declined as I had to get back to work. However, when I told him that- he didn't offer to reduce the bill to make it right. I would not eat there again, nor would I recommend it to my friends. After 3 bad meals in a row, it couldn't have been a fluke. read more

My wife and I have eaten here many times and have always enjoyed it, but our lunch today was not a good experience! We stopped in for a late lunch, ordering from their lunch menu. It wasn't crowded and yet a took awhile to get our order taken. My wife ordered the Manhattan clam chowder with her meal. The clams were tough, not fresh tasting, and she bit into a clam shell. Luckily she didn't break a tooth. She told our waitress about it and she said "well at least you know we use fresh clams" Not exactly what she expected to hear. Our sandwiches arrived and they were okay, but the fries weren't hot. The bus boy had cleaned our table, but we waited so long for the bill I had to get up and ask for it. As we were paying the bill, we realized the waitress never gave us our pickles and coleslaw. At that point we just wanted to leave and we did. Probably won't go back for awhile. Such a shame! I decided to give this diner I try, so I ordered pork souvlaki for take out. I have been on a mission to find something as delicious as the doner kebab that I had many years ago in Italy (yes I know it is Turkish) I finally found something almost equal to that. The souvlaki was tender, juicy, perfectly seasoned- the pita was homemade and airy and the tatziki sauce was simply sublime. The fresh oregano on top made it as close to perfection as could be. After seeing the diner was under new ownership, my family decided tonight to give it a try, and we were ALL blown away! I read the other yelp reviews and hoped they were legit. They were. We were greeted right away by numerous friendly staff who were very attentive. The menu was vast, and priced fairly (incredibly well priced once we saw the portions!). There were separate printed children's menus which included a variety of options and came with a drink. They had nice touches at dinner--a veggie plate and bread for the table (along with half sour pickles and very good Cole slaw with the sandwiches). The food was delicious!! Everything was homemade, including the pitas (I definitely tasted the difference). The waiter was excellent; he kept the glasses full, checked in frequently, but wasn't intrusive. My husband told the hostess that we would be back, and we definitely will! This is an excellent addition to the Newburgh dining scene and I can't wait to try some of their other selections. read more

Was going to drive 80 miles each way to New York City because I wanted a real Gyro however I decided to try Ikaros Diner. I am overjoyed to report that this was possibly the best Gyro I have ever had. I can state the tzatziki sauce was the best. read more

Great selection, really good food, friendly wait staff, open almost all the time. Not much else you can expect. This place is a winner. I have been here about 8 times now. I have had a great experience each time. Food is always consistent, fresh and delicious. I usually start with a fresh Mozzarella, Tomato and basil salad. They always give a nice portion of mozzarella with it. Their homemade Yankee bean soup is so flavorful and really did the trick on this cold mon. My daughter got their chicken and rice soup. It was delicious. Full of nice sized pieces of chicken breast, carrots and celery. Then she had their mac n cheese from the kids menu. It's real mac n cheese. Not the box crap. I couldn't help but to steal a few bites. Now as for the staff, they are always friendly. I walk in the door and they all say "Hello. How are you?" As if we've known each other for years. Teena went above and beyond today. She's been courteous and prompt with our order. If you sit along the front side of the restaurant, you have a really beautiful view of the reservoir. read more

Pulled off of 87 looking for a place for dinner- bypassed all the chains in favor for this diner because of the good reviews on yelp. We both got Greek dishes and it did not disappoint. Portions were generous and the complimentary veggie and ranch dip appetizer was a great touch! read more

Nothing special and overpriced for drinks. I had a spinach pie which was great and nice portion, nachos were large, but ordinary using packaged jalapeños and salsa. Sodas and chocolate milk were expensive. $2.75 for a Shirley Temple and when they offered my daughter a refill they did not inform us that it was another $2.75. I could've bought 5 2-liters of cherry 7up for that. Also a kiddie sized chocolate milk was $2.75- I could get at least a half gallon for that price. Many area restaurants have charged me $1 or less for chocolate milk (some don't charge at all). That might have been my fault for not double checking the menu, but house drinks were around $6.75 each which is ridiculous. We made it out for around $45 (including tip) for 2 appetizers and a breakfast plate with 2 Shirley Temples the milk and a water for me. I've eaten at much nicer places for the money. I won't go back, but if you can order water- you're gonna save at least $10 on your bill. One adult, 1 teen and 1 toddler. read more

Lady was nice. I've had nicer. I've had meaner. I was in a Jewish mood so I ordered matzo ball soup, well to my surprise they tried to kanoodle with me and serve me mashed potato soup!! To much food. So good, I wanted to eat it all but got full. Homemade coleslaw came with lunch and was excellent as was the potato salad. We try to eat here when we visit our son at West Point. All the food is delicious, and the cheesecake is divine. Portions are big so come hungry. What makes this place more enjoyable is the service. Love this diner! Such a good break from the many impersonal chain restaurants in the area. The food here is delicious and the family so warm and welcoming. I'm actually from NYC, not New Windsor, but I gladly make the detour every now and then to grab a delicious sandwich at Ikaros on a Sunday or whenever I have to be in the area. The food served is typical diner food, nothing special that blew me out of my seat. I disagree with Kimberly L's review. She states that everything homemade. This is untrue. My wife wanted to get something for the kids, so she asked one of the servants if the Mac & Cheese was homemade. The waitress said it was out of the box. Another thing, what ever you do, do not order the nacho appetizer. It is a complete rip off. It it comprised of bagged nachos w/burnt cheese on the bottom of the plate and some veggies thrown on top. Got the pancake deluxe and there was so much grease on the plate I got sick. Came with 3 pancakes that were small compared to other diners, 2 pieces of thin bacon, a sausage link that looked like a turd, and a piece of ham that was as thin as you would get at the deli. Been here plenty of times but after last night that will not be the case. As we entered the restaurant we we're the only table at 11:45pm in the place. Which was awesome seeing as though my girlfriend and I haven't had time to ourselves in a while. The waitress was friendly but slow to say the least. A booth of her friends was sat directly behind us and then it was though we didn't exist. We couldn't get refills on water let alone our tables cleared from the table after we stacked both stacked them up nicely for the waitress because my girlfriend and I are both in the service industry. My steak was extremely overcooked and my girlfriend had the dried out flavorless chicken stuffed with feta and spinach. We waited almost a half hour for like warm horrible food. Never again, especially considering that there was basically only our table putting in a real order not just harassing our friends at work... read more

I'd give it no stars if I could. I came here late night after moving all day long to get a chicken sandwich. The chicken was way overdone and disgusting. I didn't have more than one bite (the one I took to try it) the waitress didn't come back to check on us until she was clearing our plates. She asked how everything was and I said I was displeased in the chicken, hence why I didn't eat it. She took it away and brought our check which still had this chicken sandwich on it. I brought it up to the counter to pay and again, the manager asked how everything was. I said I wasn't happy with the chicken and that I didn't eat it. He repeated the total of the check and held out his hand for payment. Really?!?! I want everyone to know this happened. It absolutely ridiculous. I work in a restaurant and we wouldn't bat an eyelash if a customer even came across as dissatisfied. I could have an awful meal somewhere else but if the customer service is amazing and they actually give a damn, I'd give it a second try! Not here. read more

This place has gone down fast!! When they first opened they were really good. The Spanakopita is one of my favorites and it was great. The next 2 times we went, the Spanakopita was inedible, it was like eating grass, very stringy and impossible to swallow. The food in the rest of my party was ok. Well, we ended up there the other day by default, we went someplace else after my son's graduation and there was a line out the door so we opted to go to the diner instead. BAD mistake!! It was the worst meal we've ever received anywhere. My sons grilled cheese was 2 slices of American cheese thrown on top of white bread and put in the microwave. My husbands corned beef looked and tasted like it had been sitting on the counter for days. Dried out. Knowing my past experience with their food I went with a broccoli and cheese omelet- what could go wrong? Don't ask- burnt to a crisp hash browns and large chunks of raw broccoli. When the owner asked how everything was I had to let her know, politely that the place has gone down hill. I asked if they had a new cook, she said yes and then tried to tell me that the computer system was down that day and that it was causing confusion. I told her the computer didn't cook the food. She felt very bad and said she appreciated my honesty and gave me 1/2 off the bill. However- we will never go back read more
