First, the waitstaff are very friendly. This was our first time here after hearing some positive reviews. Hubby ordered a western omelette with hash browns. I opted for the Challah French toast deluxe. This was 3 slices of French toast and sausage, bacon and ham. The waitress then asked me what type of eggs I wanted. I said I wasn't aware that eggs came with (not listed on the menu) this so I opted for scrambled to bring home to my dog. The coffee has an off putting taste, almost acidic. Okay, not everyone cleans their coffee makers well. Hubby said his omelette was okay but the potatoes lacked any flavor. My French toast was good and the sausage links were okay, however, the bacon and ham definitely tasted "off" I didn't bother taking it home for my dog because if it wasn't good, I wouldn't want him to get sick. Anyway - okay, it was a mediocre breakfast but what really ticked me off was when I looked at the check and a $3 charge was added for the 2 eggs I didn't even want. I'm not sure if the waitress was new and not familiar with the menu but -wow. Take from this what you will, I'm just giving you an honest review of our breakfast at 8:45 on a Wednesday morning. Stopped by this little diner before going to the crystal connection. It's a cute small town diner with very friendly staff. The food was ok. Not sure if I'd come back here unless it were for simple food. My wife's chicken fingers had no real seasoning but the fries were good. My open faced roast beef sandwich was .... ehh. read more

I've given this diner a few chances, and while it has potential, there are some things that just can't be overlooked. The food is consistently mediocre--often cold by the time it arrives, and the wait can be frustratingly long. To be clear, this isn't on the servers. The kitchen seems to be the issue, not the front of house. What's disappointing is the inconsistency in service. Some of the staff come off as rude--not just to customers, but in plain view, to each other. That said, Deanna and Corinne are the absolute exceptions. If you go, ask for either of them. They're warm, professional, and make you feel at home. There was another server who was phenomenal, but we haven't seen her in a while. She really stood out. Shoutout to Nick, the bus boy--he's shy, but always quick, courteous, and helpful. We often tip him directly because he consistently goes above and beyond without ever drawing attention to himself. The hostesses overall has always been friendly and kind, which makes the experience more bearable despite other issues. The new owner, unfortunately, doesn't do the place any favors. Comes off as disingenuous at best, and downright rude at worst--especially toward his own staff. It's uncomfortable to witness. The ambiance could definitely use some love, too. Feels dated and neglected. There are some genuinely good people working here, but management and the kitchen need serious attention before it's worth recommending. read more

Having grown up amidst myriad Greek diners in Astoria, NY, I am always happy to find one outside city limits! I was excited, then, to find one in the middle of Wurtsboro. This find offers a full menu of traditional Greek fare and some!. I was ready to go for lamb souvlaki but was tempted away by a goat cheese and portobello mushroom panini. I added a heaping side of macaroni salad and set to work on the impressive meal,which I thoroughly enjoyed! The service was friendly and attentive as well. My husband and I have been coming back for the Greek food which I feel is the real draw to this small diner. I didn't see any reviews even talking about it but the owner is Greek- also has another Greek restaurant In Monticello so we knew we had to try this one. We both love Greek food. We have been, I think three times so far, and I can't say anything about the food other than the Greek food we ordered was excellent. If you like Greek food, I recommend. Yes the place could use a little more love but that's not going to happen until the word gets out that the Greek food is awesome. I'm happy they are here as there are only a few Greek restaurants within our traveling distance. read more

They started doing dinner service Recently. Went twice. First time Prime rib wasn't cooked right. Was cooked on the outside. No complaint. Next visit I specifically asked for cut right off of toast not pan heated. Same result. On the bill was one amount but the credit card showed another amount. Tried to get an explanation. "Credit card company fault" "clover fault" . Finally a manager lied and said they don't have to notify customer of extra charges. He was very arrogant and when corrected that NY state mandated they put somewhere on menu or at register that there is a 3% up charge for CC He really didn't care. With his bad attitude they won't stay in business long. Badly cooked prime rib and arrogant about breaking NY state law. read more

Beware the diner has sold and is under new ownership. Over the last several years I have visited the WBD dozens of times with groups and the food and service were excellent. Today was different. After waiting 45 minutes for food, we asked of the status of our order. New owner was less than professional when I was told to wait while he refunded a customer who was also tired of waiting for his order. I understand kitchens back up and an apology would have sufficed. That wasn't offered. Diners aren't places you expect to wait an hour to eat. This might be an isolated incident but the owners attitude that this was no fault of his staff will make me think twice of returning. Too many restaurants have failed on this strip, let's see if this is another. read more

Cannot believe how much they charge now plus a service fee they don't tell you about plus a credit card fee. I'm sure this place is just fine if you live Locally and are a regular. But for someone driving through, the service could not have been worse! First we were completely ignored forever until a server finally came to take our order, all the while every employee in the place stopped by a nearby table to say hello. A basic omelette and sandwich took over a half hour to arrive and when it did the omelette came with the wrong side and was ice cold. The sandwich was edible but just barely. Awesome little diner for breakfast and lunch. Food is always delicious, and their homemade chocolate pudding is to die for. Portions are ginormous and prices are perfect. Hearty appetites will appreciate this place! Staff is always warm and welcoming and make you feel at home. We love coming here for breakfast on the weekends - the French toast is fantastic. If you enjoy Greek food, that's just one more reason to stop here. The owners also own Yanni's in Monticello, which isn't open early like the Wurtsboro Diner but is open for dinner. This diner is one of those little gems tucked away in a teeny village no one would ever think to stop in, so they drive by and end up eating over processed fast food again. How do you mess up a plain hot dog order? Serve one on a burnt, carved out hamburger bun and deep fry them past the point of recognition. The appetizer came out as a dessert. The waitress was nice, however, the server was unattentive and got most of our lunch order wrong. Oh, and my wife's gyro pita was stale and hard as a rock. Not going to be returning. We stopped here for lunch on our way back to Long Island. They had a decent menu and lunch specials. I asked the waitress for my sandwich without feta and unfortunately it came with it, so I gave it to my husband to eat and he gave me his meal. He ordered a quesadilla with a side of fries and the fries reminded me a whole lot of processed frozen fries... Although the portions were big, I was not all that happy with the food. Great to see a new place to eat in Wurtsboro. Went for a late lunch party of 4. We started with a combo appetizer of fried calamari grape leaves and hummus with pita chips. All were delicious. Main course I had the liver and onions which I haven't had in a number of years. Really tasty. Rest of party had the spinach pie and Greek salad. Also a gyro. All tasty and fresh. Met a friend of mine from out of town here this morning for a quick bite to eat. I'm going to give this 3 1/2 stars because the prices were excellent the food was tasty and the atmosphere was pretty cool. Very small place and seemed like everybody in town goes here on a Sunday as by the time we left there was a line almost out the door. I ordered an egg white and turkey sausage omelette with some black coffee, toast and home fries. Everything was prepared very well. The challenge was the service,The waitress came over and gave us our food and our coffee and we didn't see her again. We had to stop and ask two other waitresses for refills on our coffee and then I was still eating my meal and conversing with my friend, our waitress shows up and dropped the bill on the table as if to say "hurry up and get out of here guys". I didn't like that so I can't go higher than 3 1/2 stars but the food and the place was definitely a cool experience read more

Food is good. But not sure I'll be returning. At the end of our meal my mom had coleslaw on her plate. The waitress asked her if she ate out of it. Mom said no. I saw her take the jelly from my plate and the 3 closed containers and go to put them in the fridge for re use. As someone who has had a food born illness, i feel uncomfortable with that. This is one of three places that I MUST stop in to whenever I'm in town. Wurtsboro Diner is the quintessential mom and pop small-town upstate New York diner. Love that they have a patio for outside dining during the warm months and a couple of small tables on the front porch when it's raining. Best eggs benedict on the planet! Waffles and omelets are great too. Service was spotty a few times, but 90 percent of the time the wait staff is hardworking and amazing, especially when serving outside - that can't be easy! Can't go wrong with ordering anything on the menu here. Only down side is they close in the late afternoon and aren't open for dinner. read more

in my book you never get 5 stars cuz there's always room for improvement. But honestly? There isn't anything I would change about everything in this place. The waitress was awesome, menu was very long which I didn't expect, portion size was very large and the food? DELICIOUS. FRESH. FLAVORFUL. Prices were outstanding. I got the mushroom and goat cheese Panini with a side Caesar salad, and a unsweetened iced tea made from scratch and it was only $10.75. Janice got some sort of a crepe and grape leaves with bottled Ice-T. Only $10. Gina Marie got some sort of enchilada zucchini fries and iced coffee roughly $13. Three very large meals and everybody took home a doggy bag. Out the door $39 without tip. I'm sorry but that's just phenomenal. The atmosphere was very nice, clean, positive upbeat and happy. These are the same owners from Yanni's in Monticello which I don't like it all but I love this place and I'll be coming back again and again. The food was piping hot and unbelievably delicious. The parking lot in the front is a little small but they have parking around the side and the back I think and street parking. and if you need to walk off some of those calories stroll down to the Canal Towne Emporium a couple of blocks before. such a great spot. I hope that this place sticks around for a really long time because the diner in my town burned down last summer. I wish the owners and the family only the best of luck and look forward to seeing them very soon.
