I'm giving them 5 stars for their mission statement and how they give back to the community. Their food and drinks would get 4 stars because they're a bit "spendy" and the coffee's average. The staff are hit or miss. Some are super friendly. Some not so much. Wear a sweater because it's always chilly. It's also fairly noisy due to the echo in the large room and sometimes someone who can't play the piano will decide to play the piano which can be a painful experience for those of us who are musical. It's metered parking so it can get really expensive if you want to get work done there for a few hours and parking enforcement will absolutely ticket you the instant your meter is expired. The nearest free parking is a few blocks away, so if you're disabled that's not great. Even when I had a disabled placard in my car after a knee surgery, I got ticketed there. While that's not the fault of the Ike Box, they really should petition the city to get free parking around their location. read more

I'm basing my 5 stars on the Hot chocolate and atmosphere. From all the coffee shops I've tried in town they have the best hot chocolate hands down. I do not drink coffee so its important to me that a coffee shop has great hot chocolate! read more

Our group uses one of their rooms for our meeting each month. They are very accommodating and I enjoy their tea selection, both hot and cold. Their scones are good as well. It is a nice place to have a Sunday morning cup of coffee and read the paper, there is always somewhere to sit as the main room is very large. read more

Cool space, nice folks, and the coffee? Well, it's a cool space. Order something extra sugary and milky or you'll wish you had. It's probably OK if you're a Starbucks fan, otherwise it's a missed opportunity. An extra star for the cool space and nice folks. read more

I had some peppermint tea here today and it was well worth the price. They use real tea, which is nice. I cannot stand paying large prices for supermarket tea. My husband had the Smore Roll, and an earl grey. All great, and we had a meeting upstairs which was a wonderful space. This is a hidden treasure in Salem. I'll be back! read more

Ike Box is seriously the best type of coffee shop you can ask for. TONS of seating including comfy couches and padded chairs, fantastic atmosphere, awesome coffee (I highly recommend a Cinnamon Bun White Mocha...SO GOOD), very friendly employees who always seem to be having way too much fun serving their customers, and the best part...they have an awesome mission! The story is so touching...make sure to ask someone if you stop by why the place is called "Ike Box" ;) Please support this one! Used to be a great place to relax on weekdays and mosh on weekends. Now there are no hard shows and being summer, it's incredibly hot with no air conditioning. The computer used to be free, but now is $1 every 20 minutes unless you've bought a drink. So I suggest bringing your laptop for free wireless. And the drinks aren't that great anymore. But they have many couches to relax on. read more

The best coffee shop in Salem! Lots of space to do work, great options for food (including snacks like apple and peanut butter). I'm also continually astounded by how nice the workers are. Most say hi right when you walk in, have a genuine smile on their face, and treat every customer with respect. FINALLY found a coffee shop that I love. read more

My first visit to The Ike Box was just a few days ago. I love the old building, it has a great atmosphere. I chose to try the strawberry smoothie, it was better than most I've had. I will definitely be going back to sample more of the menu. read more

Came here a few summers ago and the place had a nice "homey" feel to it! I feel like it's the stereotypical coffee shop they have in movies were college students go and study, it's a very relaxing atmosphere. I would definitely go to this place next time I'm in Salem read more

Had a great experience here. The chai concentrate has just the right amount of spice. I am a tea snob and their iced black tea was perfect! Liked the decor and open atmosphere. This is the best place in Salem's Capitol Mall to get coffee. Friendly staff, good quality coffee, great ambiance and just generally a great place all around. Oh and you're helping train some of Salem's future leaders to boot. read more

So yummy! The quiche is good but my favorite are the pockets stuffed with things like spinach and feta. Coffee is good too and the shop has a family/neighborhood feel where people know each other. They will readily welcome you to their neighborhood too. read more

Have gotten coffee here. It's a fun place to hang & get coffee. Nothing special, but great for teens to hang & do their thing. Finding parking can be a bear! During lunch this place gets crowded. It's a casual grab & go lunch or breakfast place. You can grab & go or hang & eat in. But my 2 cents worth is that it's alright, but not a 5 star joint. read more

This place has great coffee, tea, and tons of seating. However, after the last few times of experiencing their customer service, I don't think I will be coming back for a while. The baristas seem to resent the fact that I'm ordering drinks and it makes me feel very unwelcomed and unwanted at this business. IKE Box is a great place to do work, relax, or meet with friends. It's spacious, there are plenty of power outlets, and individual meeting rooms that you can use or rent. The staff has always been incredibly efficient and kind. The food is also good! They always have a selection of pastries, snacks, and fruit. I love the bagels with chive schmear so much. Really affordable prices too. Sometimes they host community events and I think they do youth job training in-house. All around a really great coffee shop and meeting space to have in Salem. read more

I can only rate the coffee as I didn't eat here. very nice old building with tons of seating. I'm weary of baked goods that are individually wrapped, which to me does not indicate freshly made, but they also served breakfast burritos among a few other savory breakfast items. Sisters coffee is always solid, so great coffee. And apparently IKEs helps kids, so win there. read more

I walked in because I felt bad that they were getting demolished and I wanted to support a local business. I ordered a veggie omelet, and they brought out a small, McDonald's style sandwich. When I mentioned I didn't want a sandwich because I don't eat gluten, And that I had just asked for an omelette, they took it to the back, took away the bread, and brought it back out. It was cold. It was the size of the palm of my hand...There was maybe a couple pieces of green onion in there, but no other veggies. It tasted like it had been frozen and microwaved several times over - it had no flavor, the texture was dry and rubbery. There are plenty of other great coffee shops in the vicinity and I unfortunately walked into this one. I paid ten bucks to find out I'll never come here again. The only pro - the space is neat. They just need to put as much effort into their product as they do into their branding. Do better. read more

Stopped in for a coffee and chat with friends when I was visiting in Salem. The baristas were super friendly, and my coffee was super tasty (though a tad too sweet). I love the atmosphere. The atmosphere is great! I loved the high ceilings and the decor and cool details (pretty sure they were original to the building). The seats are nicely spaced so that it seems cozy, but not TOO intimate. I loved it! I hope to go back next time I'm in Salem. read more

Pros: Extremely charming, cozy atmosphere. Perfect place to study or lounge around in an oversized chair reading a book. Convenient location downtown, close to Willamette University. The few food items they have are tasty. Cons: I bought a Yelp coupon for this place because their website menu had breakfast burritos advertised that reviewers said were amazing. Well they don't serve breakfast burritos anymore! Ever. False advertising. So instead, I ordered a quiche with toast. The quiche ($5 for a slice) was delicious. But when I asked if they had jam or jelly for my toast, the barista looked at me like I asked for a pot of gold. I don't care for dry toast, so I gave it away. This also isn't a place to come if you are in a hurry. The line moves slowly and your order takes a while too. We did come in on a Sunday, so maybe things move quicker on week days. Overall, it's a good place, and I love seeing a beautiful building put to use that everyone can enjoy (it used to be a funeral home?!). But it's got so much potential to be even better. read more
