They looked healthy and good all the prices are excellent, but I think that the chicken strips were a little pricey for IKEA. - this is in comparison to the other items offered price-wise. There seem to have been a special needs school field trip or work experience outing today, that were enjoying their lunch, at the café. Sidenote; I couldn't find salad dressing, but apparently it was with the other condiment pumps. Additionally, if you want a to go bag, there aren't any, but they will give you a small food foldable box. We actually went here at 8 AM in the morning for breakfast, but they don't open till 10 AM. This time I saw a few that I ah ent tried before and that's their smoke salmon salad (delicious) and their butter cod plate with mashed potatoes and peas. Both are quite tasty. There's always a long line so you have to be patient in getting your food. I like how they have mini trays and mini carts for you to carry your food to your table. Large dining area and good places for kids to play as well. One less star because they also put some cookies and wafers at this cafe but when I went to ask how much it was at the register, the staff didn't know as it couldn't ring up. I love visiting Ikea to wander around to look at interior design/furniture and then stopping by the cafe to get some Swedish meatballs and mashed potatoes! I do it as a hangout with my sister or a simple, fun date with my boyfriend. On my recent visit, I noticed that the staff had made food decors (out of resin? foam? clay?) for the sets and I thought that they were such a cute touch, especially for the kitchen and dining sets. The cafe is located at the very end of the upstairs maze, but there are overhead signs with shortcuts on how to get there faster. Once you are there, grab a cart and walk along the counter to grab some appetizers and sides, order hot entrees from the staff, and finally decide on some dessert options. You then proceed to pay at the front. Continuing the self-serve trend, you grab your drinks, condiments, and utensils before sitting down, and once you are done eating, you bring the cart along with everything back to the dish rack for the employees to take away and clean. I have tried a lot of the foods over the years and everything is yummy and decently priced! However, right now until the end of August, Ikea is offering 50% off hot entrees on Fridays, and that was the main reason for my most recent visit. We got the Swedish meatball plates (as usual) and decided to try the tenders and fries, and wow it was actually really good! The fries were very nice and crunchy; the tenders were well-battered and crunchy as well but remained soft and juicy on the inside--we were delightfully surprised. Love this cafe. It's such an underrated spot but they have very affordable meals especially if you come on a Monday (if you're vegetarian), Tuesday, or Friday when their entrees are half off. If you have the family rewards, you also get a free coffee which leads me to my next point: this is a great place to study. They have free coffee for rewards members, cheap food, plenty of tables, and even a microwave if you need to reheat anything. Sadly, I did not like it :( The kind worker behind the counter had asked if I wanted all the "fixings", and I said yes, assuming it was just the fried onions and pickled beets such as what I had seen on other reviewers' photos. However, when I took my first bite in excitement, I was hit with a heavy mustardy taste and distinct hints of wasabi. The wasabi flavor started to settle in and got so overwhelming I almost wanted to throw it up. I ended up discarding the half of it away. Strawberry lemongrass smoothie 5/5: Delicious! It comes in a rather small cup, so don't expect any "standard" cup sizes. But hey, moderation is key. Next time I want to try the mango pineapple one, they ran out of it on this trip. I came around mid afternoon and there were very little patrons dining, everyone was pleasant to deal with the atmosphere was very peaceful. Hej! This location is the first ikea I have ever steeped in to,and the experience was great. The whole experience was positive, it was a bit crowded which for a Sunday afternoon is understandable. I decided to enjoy some delicious lunch with my party of four. I had the Swedish balls platter with the side of mash potatoes and peas. The meatballs were super tasty one of my favorite things, but the mash potatoes were pretty good. Not a big fan of peas so you could say it was my least favorite. For dessert I had the chocolate cake definitely recommend! It was so rich in flavor and the texture was perfect. We used to be regulars to Ikea, enjoying both the bistro on the 2nd floor exit cafe on the 1st. However, the quality, service and value (ie., increased prices) have deteriorated on our most recent visit. We visited for lunch over the weekend in June, and not only were many items we wanted were out of stock, even the actual serving of the food was poorly done. When you scoop vegetables on TOP of French fries, you can't expect the fries will survive. More on that later. First, Wait time. Wait time was around 12pm around 15 minutes at a minimum, which is a bit better than the past. It used to be longer a year ago and preCOVID, possibly due to seasonality, but also possibly due to less ppl coming because of some of the issues I've raised here. Second, Out of Stocks. I was surprised to find that Mac and Cheese, which has always been available, was out of stock, it's a first for us, obviously disappointing for the kids. We were also told the vegetable medallions were out of stock, and that is the standard side with the salmon. Instead, we were offered sides that are cheaper than the medallion, two of the same mixed veggies (very soggy) or a mashed potatoes. Green beans and broccoli were also out of stock, along with the cod fish special. Why advertise these on the screen above as we are waiting only to disappoint and surprise us when we arrive at the front? Third, Value. The prices have increased since we were last here just a couple months ago, so the salmon has now increased to $10, and that shouldn't be that bad for a salmon piece, but the Ikea salmon size is almost half, it not less than half the size you'd find at a fast casual restaurant. Further, when they sold out of the vegetable medallions when we went, I wonder why they wouldn't discount the price of the salmon just slightly when we were given a lower-priced side as a substitute. Fourth, Food Quality. It is similar to what it was before, possibly just a little lower quality, but overall mediocre, and you were usually forgiving if the fries were soggy, the chicken tender overly salty, or the vegetables over cooked and watery (all of which happened this time), because of the value, the price made it acceptable. But at the current prices, it's hard to be okay with it. The swedish meatballs (as a side) is at least still decent value and cooked well. Fifth, Food Serving. I was shocked when I saw the servers drown our salmon in the white sauce. Ruined perfectly good salmon pieces. That was the first time that's happened on our 100+ visits. And then they put the kids meals in little bowls so it would stack veggies on French fries and chicken/meat balls on top of that. As I mentioned earlier, how could they not know this ruins crispy fries and makes them soggy? Overall, we hope this was a fluke, perhaps a training issue, new staff? Or a supply chain issue, or someone mid-ordered this week? Or perhaps they can revisit the price, to make all of these issues acceptable? It's not like we haven't experienced quality issues before, but we paid $5 or $6 for an entree before, not $10+. We'll be sad if we have to end our regular family trip to IKEA. read more
