I'm not sure if anyone enjoys visiting IKEA (I certainly don't), but it's a necessity. It's surprisingly well-designed at their price points. When I was looking for a new bed frame, I got one online from a non IKEA store, and it was horribly squeaky and the tolerances were not good. I wished that I would have spent the same amount of money at IKEA. Once you've visited a single IKEA, you've visited them all. The parking lot is huge and well marked. The entrance has an escalator leading up to the showroom, with Småland and the bathrooms right before you transcend to the realm of home furnishings. I actually like the concept of Småland, which is a supervised play facility where parents can drop their child off for free. That way you can concentrate on how to spend your money without any distractions. There's also a small cafe in the showroom, so you can grab a bite to eat to replenish your energy levels. I do have a few gripes though. Not all products are displayed on the showroom so you'll have to look up items before you go. Even though the website shows what is in stock at your stone, the actual location in store is not helpful (vague terms like "lighting" etc) and it's hard to find a staff member to help you look. It was awful trying to find a specific light bulb and I gave up. Also, the self checkout will occasionally flag you for manual review which can hold up the process.

IKEA started as a tiny mail order company in rural Sweden and now it's a global home furnishing brand. They are known for relatively cheap, but decent looking, furniture items - everything from small decorative pieces to shelving/couches/beds to very involved cabinetry. You can furnish your dorm room or remodel your kitchen. For me personally, I appreciate IKEA's smaller pieces and textiles. Their vintage items are really neat and you can tell they used to be a higher quality. I probably wouldn't use IKEA for anything really large or that I wanted to last a long time. I also like their "as is" section for some even deeper discounts. Beyond that, the IKEA store here in Portland is fun to visit. You can spend a couple of hours or a half-day here if you want to, getting your steps in and avoiding extreme heat or snow outside. They have got a huge showroom to get lost in upstairs, as well as a food court with really cheap food. I usually skip the upstairs and just go straight to the downstairs to actually pick out items.

I always love getting food from the Ikea Bistro. The food might not always be piping hot, but the taste of the meatballs is hard to beat. The mashed potatoes NEED the gravy for sure and paired with the meatballs and berry sauce is a perfect match. The mac and cheese is surprisingly good and the selection of cake slices is always nice. The ambience is what you make of it. Depending on where you sit in the seating area, you will get a different experience.

[This review is mainly for the restaurant, with a comment about the new remodel.] I really do like IKEA's Swedish meatballs. But what I REALLY like is the dessert that looks like a little slice of toffee cake. So when we stopped there for some meatballs and toffee cake, and found that the toffee cake is no longer offered at the restaurant, I wanted to turn around and leave. But no. Couldn't do that. The meatballs were calling my name. So my friends and I stayed for the meatballs. Just as good as always. I got the child's plate which included 5 meatballs covered in gravy, a scoop of mashed potatoes, a big spoonful of peas and a healthy spoonful of lingonberry sauce. I'd have given 5 stars if they'd had the toffee cake dessert. IKEA has undergone a major renovation that's still finishing up and other than the new yellow shopping carts, the biggest change I saw was to the public restrooms on the first floor (I didn't go to the restrooms upstairs but I presume they're the same). Gone are the separate facilities for men & women and in its place are restrooms very much like those I've experienced in Europe. Each commode is in its own little room with a locking door, with handwashing sinks in the central area. It can be unnerving for those of us who've never experienced anything other than a typical public restroom in our own country but maybe using the new IKEA facilities will get us ready for some overseas adventures.

We Came For The Food... Well, and the plethora of kitchen gadgets they sell. The furniture is by far great! The cafe has those delicious meatballs everyone craves. But, I had the Chicken dish which came with a bed of rice, black beans, the rotisserie-style chicken and sweet plantains.

Haven't been to an IKEA in perhaps a decade, and the Swedish meatballs are still the meatloafy balls of overworked goodness, quintessential gravy and lingonberry jam, and peas. The service was cafeteria style and the ambience was pure IKEA Cafeteria Love it! And more than one breakfast under $5.

Wrote a review several years ago, not sure why it was taken down - could it be due to a poor experience I shared? Here goes a second try. IKEA is really good for some specific items, especially if you have no issue or challenges with assembling furniture. There are some fun outdoor entertainment pieces that would look great in your space. I've also found some fun and inexpensive lighting. What brings me back is the bedding. I love the various versions of down comforters that map to one's sleeping temperature. I get the coolest version filled with 90% down, 10% feathers because it retains the consistent filling even after years of use. I have them on every bed. They have one that is 90% feathers and 10% down, but the feathers move and you end up with all the filling on the outer squares and not much in the part that covers the top of bed and you. Read the descriptions carefully. The predominantly down is the more expensive comforter, worth it. Also like the assortment of glass vases, so many uses; the plastic food storage bags, the different sizes are perfect; the kitchen dishes, they last forever, no chips; the serving trays and bowls; and the pots and planters in the garden area. The live plants are hit or miss. I bought several and they died within a week. When I tried to exchange, I was told they don't accept returns or exchanges on the plants. Be carefull if you decide to purchase. They don't have the happy appearance of healthy plants that have been watered appropriately and have the proper lighting. I was there yesterday and the plant section was filled with dead blooms and burnt leaves. The cactus were fine. Self check out is my preferred choice since I rarely have a lot of items. Will stop for a fat free yogurt cone if the weather is warm. I've had lunch there, the requisite Swedish meatballs, and found them to be very salty. But if they are your thing, they sell bags of frozen ones by the checkout area. Huge parking lot, always busy. I go weekday mornings because I'm not into crowds. Tip: from the first area when you enter, the kitchen and dishes section, you can go to the right through the storage department then the pictures & art, which takes you right through garden and to checkout bypassing the lighting and other areas if you are short on time.

I needed chair pads for my dining room chairs. Came in on Saturday early afternoon. Parking was a mad house. Went upstairs. Ask someone for assistance. Told me to go downstairs and look for textiles area. Such a maze. I really wished the items will if told me where to look. I finally found it after asking multiple associates and walking around looking for help. I was definitely happy that I found some yellow Ikea bags to carry my purchases to front lanes. The self checkout was great. Associate was there to help and assist me. I was very happy to come to get an item. Just need to not come on a weekend so I didn't feel like I'm running a race with many people.

Gluten free/ dairy free review: So, I strut into IKEA and what do I see? Breakfast! At IKEA is back! Who knew, right? I dive into the small breakfast - potatoes, bacon, eggs (eggs have a little milk) and make sure to grab a Daim cake (gluten free but not dairy free). For all who can eat dairy, If you have not tried this, please go try this. Cake for breakfast, only at IKEA. And get this, there were three of us, we each grab a drink, and the bill comes... $15! I mean, where else can you get a breakfast squad for that price? IKEA, you sly fox! Their breakfast is back and it's a steal. If you're in the vicinity, swing by and indulge in a little little breakfast. You simply can't beat it! Daim cake... Let me tell you, that beautiful chocolate creation is not just delicious, it's gluten-free! So yum. So, in conclusion, IKEA's breakfast - a steal of a deal, and a cake that'll make you appreciate small moments. Go ahead, do yourself a favor and treat yourself to this quirky breakfast adventure! The price is .

I finally tried their plant based and vegetable balls. I have been eating more plant based dishes this year. And the IKEA plant based balls will not disappoint. The balls actually taste like real Swedish meat balls. I'm so impressed. On top of that it comes with the same sides as sweedish meat balls! The vegetable balls comes with the corn and square side. I had it with salmon last time I dined there. It is okayed. However the vegetable balls came with this yellow orange sauce that is a bit sour. I suspect it is made with yogurt. I'm not a fan. Again their food was lukewarm. And I forgot my own advice to myself. I should have popped the dish in a microwave before eating :)

Maybe it's nostalgia that makes me continue to eat here whenever I make an Ikea trip, because it's definitely not the food. I ordered the veggie meatball dish, which came with dry mashed potatoes, peas and cranberry sauce, and a side of macaroni. The meatballs and peas were nothing special. The cranberry sauce was too tart for me to consume. The macaroni was no different than what you'd get from a grocery store deli. Above all, it was the mashed potatoes that shocked me. They had ZERO flavor. How do you mess up mashed potatoes!? I ended up covering them in ranch to make them edible. I will add a star, just because the cashier was very friendly and made sure we got our coffees for free, which is offered for IKEA members. Also, despite being super busy, the workers cleaning up are so efficient, there is always a table available.

What a fantastic decision to order ahead and do the click & collect pick up. My husband had surgery and isn't able to bend or lift for a little longer. This process made it very easy especially on a busy weekend. Will definitely use this service again.
