I've eaten in other IKEA restaurants and brought my friend to the Portland Store just to eat but this one was way disappointing. When we first walked up the poor, overwhelmed greeter said the restaurant was closed but the buffet was open. Huh? After asking the cashier later I realized the greeter meant the normal cafeteria service does not operate during the busy season. But they substitute an all-you-can-eat buffet. Also we were told the price was $12.99. LATER when we came back to eat the greeter told us we had to sign up for the IKEA family card to get that price. We weren't told that before. BUT if we do get the card, not only do we get the $12.99 price, we also get free coffee or tea with the card. There is a nearby kiosk to sign up to get the card. I signed up with bullshit information and got one. But it gets weirder. When we got to the cashier she chuckled (politely) and said ALL BEVERAGES were included (free) with the buffet. The tea and coffee were free when the regular restaurant was open. Lots of misinformation or no information. ALSO a number of people were filling out something at the greeter's table and dropping in them in a glass bowl. Were we not offered a drawing, raffle or what? The buffet is set out in the open on temporary tables with no sneeze guard and no cooling ice beneath the platters of cold fish, cheeses and stuffed eggs. Ugh. The other half of the buffet was covered. I don't know why they do this as there are tons of cold self-serve cabinets along the way which could hold the food. Also they would have to put it in several small plates to fit in the cold cabinets. BUT THEN THEY WOULD BE EASY TO REFILL! Duh. There is hardly any labeling. I think there was meat in one of the "potato offerings" (the cook's words) but the only signage was the Swedish name for it. Which is very cute, but no help. I eat meat so I was ok. But my friend skipped it. Also, was that chili, a bean dish or a sauce in that little teeny pan behind the "potato offering"? I'll never know because I didn't see it until we were leaving. The lettuce salad and two side salads were empty my entire time at the buffet. And it was a good number of minutes because the line moves horrendously slow. I mean SLOW. There was an empty basket at the beginning of the line. The older couple in front of us tried twice to get someone's attention. I don't think they were intentionally ignored but the help was oblivious. I've worked in good service my whole life. Cooks are not trained in customer service. That's not their job. There should have been AT LEAST one service person out front all the time to answer questions and coordinated things being filled up. Anyway, I saw the couple's frustration, so I got someone's attention. "Excuse me please, we're out of bread!" Well it turns out that basket wasn't bread it was napkins. I realized that when I got halfway thru the actual buffet and someone brought more bread out (10 minutes later!) and realized they didn't need any bread. We needed napkins. LOL. Sad but true. Later, when I came back for more "potato offering", I heard a woman, I presume was the chef?, tell a customer, yes, we are out of the salmon. Ugh. Really guys? They need seasoned, knowledgeable help. People who know customer service. The food needs to be cooked properly and covered. Please do not run out of food. There is no reason for this. Especially at this price. read more

I looked forward to driving here so my gf could shop but also so i could mainly IKEA cafe. Terribly disappointed, i show up the ribs are out for 8 minutes, the meatballs are the cheapest tasting little balls of processed crap ive tasted. All open tables are dirty. IKEA like so many corporations seem to want to go the path if going as cheap as possible and ignoring quality in hopes the customer wont notice. This place went to crap, gross. read more

Confused at first, there seems to be two food quarts in IKEA: one downstairs and one upstairs. The one downstairs is amazingly cheap! 50 cent hotdogs, $2.00 nachos, and $1 something meatballs. The hotdogs were decent, meatballs were savory, but the nachos were stale. Save your $2 for something else, but I recommend the others for a cheap bite. read more

The food is ok. Cafeteria style. Grab a tray, slide it down past the deserts. Pick it up and move to the hot section. I got a burger they had on sale. $4.99 instead of $9.99, of course this month it's $7.99 if you have a ikea family card. Still it's 5 bucks which is a good price. Mushrooms Swiss cheese lettuce onions and fresh cooked meat pattie on a very cold bun. Like they could have warmed or even toasted the bun. Came with tasty fries and a pretty sad looking pickle wedge. Oh yeah and 1 packet of mayo and 1 packet of mustard. With you ikea family card you get free coffee but was surprised to find out the burger also came with a soda. That was a pleasant surprise. The self serve condiments were working this time. Kinda of a pain when your trying to get some ketchup and the dang pump is just sputtering. The coffee is alway good. It's a is your own tray kind of place which works unless the racks are full like it was that day. Overall great for $5 not worth the full price of $10. read more

Where did the dishes go? Ikea had done away with the plates and silverware in favor of disposable everything. I thought Ilea would want to distance themselves from the idea of their products be disposable, but here they are cutting corners just the same. It's cafeteria style so lower your expectations. Having said that, it's very decent food. Prices are low, portions are adequate. We eat dinner here during the week, and for a family of four is around 20-25. The dining are is nice with big windows and plenty of seating. Breakfast is only 0.99 and includes eggs, bacon, potatoes. If you have an IKEA family card, you can get free coffee/tea. read more

This is some GOOD food, and I've eaten alot at expensive restaurants and am comparing the taste and effects on my body to that. I have celiac disease and cannot tolerate gluten, as well as rice or corn. Today I ordered the gluten free chicken meatballs ball plate and French fries along with a side salad. every single thing was delicious. the gravy isn't bland and has an excellent amount of flavor and salt. the meatballs (chicken ) were savory and soft. No sign of low quality ingredients! Fries were very tasty. The best part is that I don't feel sick or bogged down. I also suggest the elderflower juice, it's organic and helps with the cold season/immune system. read more

I'm writing this review because there are THOUSANDS of satisfied customers leaving this store every day, and it's arguably the BEST big box store in all of Oregon but only has a rating of 3-1/2 stars for its restaurant. I've been to IKEA 3 times as a mystery shopper (a few years ago now) and many, many times as a regular customer, and cannot find any faults with it except the food (not my favorite). THAT area I'd give 3 stars. Why? Cold sandwiches (a little dry), self-service cafeteria food (adequate but not really very good), mostly warm meatballs (Swedish, which is fun, but have you tasted them? Salty and bland at the same time). The noodles are just okay. And have tasted the lingonberries? Hmmm. Not sure Swedish food is very good, at all. The salads are pretty good. If the whole eating area is included, I give it a 3. If we talk décor, I give it a 4. If we talk food only, I give it a 2-1/2. Sorry! If you can't even make your noodles hot and tasty, your "restaurant" needs someone to speak up! read more

The breakfast in their restruant is good. They have a great Swedish American breakfast, with the option of either sausage link or sausage patties. They also have great fountain sodas. They also have pretty great mashed potatoes and meatballs with gravy for dinner options here. This get's a five star review in my book, then again, all of IKEA gets a five star review in my book for having a great showroom and marketplace. read more

The word for this review is "underwhelming." I found myself in an IKEA restaurant and I had two thoughts. First, "IKEA has a restaurant?" Second, "I'm actually eating here?" What can I say? The tantalizing prospects of swedish meatballs lured me in. So you go in, grab a tray, and shuffle along to a guy who looks bored out of his skull. The meatball plate is $5.99 and consists of 15 meatballs, a scoop of mashed potatoes, a squirt of red berries in a sweet sauce, a squirt of gravy, a self-serve side salad and a beverage. It's actually not a bad price for everything you get. But by the time we sat down our meatballs were lifeless and cold and not exactly bursting with flavor. Perhaps actual warmth would have livened things up a bit. The berries were good but so small you could barely scoop a single bite up off the plate. I'd describe the meal as "cafeteria adequate." But just barely. The piece of chocolate cake we shared for dessert I think was about $3 and actually quite good. The IKEA seats were a bit odd. And the sounds of children screaming throughout the entire meal was not exactly the right ambiance for me. I think they should take children somewhere besides the dining area when they are to be tortured. read more

Ikea is great and have great items for sale. I just want you to know that if you get a kitchen there do NOT use Kitchen Helpers. They are very unprofessional and customer service is bad too. Problems, problems and I had everything read to go from the beginning. I strongly recommend that you use a general contractor to build your kitchen. read more
