So happy to find 85C Bakery Cafe in Portland which made my afternoon. Love their products and tasty too. What a selection here and staff consistently bring out trays of baked pastries and the smell of fresh coffee made. Heavy foot traffic here at 85C Bakery Cafe at Washington Square Mall. We had just had lunch and I was craving for something sweet and savory. What is it about malls? You shop get hungry, stop eat and shop some more then another break for more food. Shopping is definitely a workout. LOL. Yes, lines get long at the cash register but it move pretty quick. Staff is friendly and will assist with any issues. There is a water dispenser right by area where you pick up your freshly made beverages/coffee. Tables and chairs available to sit and enjoy your pastries and coffee. This was my first being in an 85C Bakery cafe. I got know that are a popular Taiwanese brand. Their bakery good looked excellent in display shelves. There were a lot of bread and cake products. The menu had several drinks as well. Most of the items were in right side of the store, and on the left they had the pick up window and few tables to sit. This area was somewhat dirty and under maintained. The store was busy when we went to the store. Took us a long time in the checkout lane to buy the bakery items. For drinks, they had couple of self ordering kiosks. I ordered the sea salt strawberry green tea. Took them 5-6minutes to hand out the drink. It had a really good drink. I could taste the salt that mixed well with the citrusy flavor of the strawberry. I finished the drink by the time we walked out of the store. read more

I miss 85C bakery! They used to dominate the field in Taiwan. It has drinks, pastries, savory treats and cakes. I ordered an unsweetened ice tea and got some pineapple cakes. Very light and packed the flavors with real pineapple. Tea was strong, not water down. You pick out the pastry items then line up to check out. You can put in drink order at the register or at kiosk. They call you when the drink is ready. It's a quick in and out store. No seats. Very bright and clean inside. They have some merchandise on display to buy. I went over to Washington Square to pick up my glasses from Lens Crafters and had to walk by this place due, to construction. Lucky me! I tried some pastries here a few years ago but wasn't that impressed. I figured it was time to revisit, pick up a pastry and try some of the ice tea. Every dessert looked so appealing and I could have spent a lot longer contemplating, but I didn't. I had the Guava Danish and some Passion Fruit ice tea. The Danish was so yummy and I enjoyed the tea but it was very sweet. This a high quality bakery in Washington Square mall. I came on a Friday around 1pm and none of the pastries were sold out so there was a great selection of pastries and breads to choose from. Everything is clearly labeled on the signs and individually packaged, which I appreciated. The line can be pretty long, but it moves fast. The standout pastry to get here are the egg tarts. They are not too sweet, perfectly creamy, and have a buttery crust. I tried the mochi egg tarts for the first time and they were great, but not anything too different in texture from the original. That taro cake was great! I loved how the US is trying out cool flavors like mango and taro. I hope I can find black sesame or chestnut cakes at a bakery one day. The cake looked so pretty. The taste was perfect. We should totally go back and try out other cakes in the future. read more

Service: The smaller pastries displayed are self serve. You can order cakes, drinks and other snacks once you get to the counter. Nice, friendly and relatively speedy. Pastries: The main reason I go. Wide selection of options of buns, egg tarts, milk bread, etc for you to hand pick and choose from. Fresh and yummy for for breakfast or snack. Cakes: 8" round cakes for $40 is a bit steep, however they do taste good. Overall fluffy but a tad sweet for my taste. Their single slices are okay but for $6-8 per slice is again also steep for what it is. If you have to buy a cake from here, I would rather get the full round cake than the slices. Drinks: Okay, does the job. however there are better options available within the area. Overall, I think this place is a great bakery for their pastries. appropriately priced with a wide selection and made fresh everyday. It's hard to justify paying over $40 for an 8" cake but this bakery makes a legitimate argument. Besides being a great looking cake, the ube taste was present. I love the breads. Everything else feels like mass manufacturing, because it really is. This is a world wide chain. I like their prepackaged teas, but it's gotten pricey for something that is premade somewhere else. The cakes are cute. But not made with natural ingredients. I really appreciate that each item has a card clearly indicating the name, calories, ingredients and price. At the counter, there is a display case with gorgeous rainbow sherbert colored cake slices and specialty desserts. While I didn't try any of those, they certainly looked beautiful and I would come back to pick up an assortment for a dinner party. I opted for a savory hotdog pastry because I needed protein not was good, hit the spot for an afternoon snack. I missed this place for a similar style bakery at the Clackamas mall. I will say that the products were good, but I was a little disappointed. They didn't have the items I was hoping for that. I got when I frequent There. Place was very clean things in the case were fresh. I didn't get anything prepackaged outside the case because really truly I wonder how they could be so fresh with just how much volume they have there. Don't take my word on that honestly, I have no idea if they do bake and package all of those fresh each day. Pastries are always amazing and tasting fresh. I've tried multiple and my favorite is always anything with the red bean filling. My favorite drink is the taro lavender latte. It doesn't have a strong lavender flavor and it's delicious everytime. The bakery is self serve using a white tray to collect items you like, or carry them, and then check out at the register. The staff at the register has always been very friendly and helpful regarding any questions. It can get a little loud because there's a lot of in and out but there are nice tables in the back where you can sit and enjoy your pastries and coffee if eating/ drinking there. Upon entering, the white trays at the entrance were all dirty, with food crumbs all over them (usually they're relatively clean). Additionally, when I went to purchase my items, it took some time for the cashier to acknowledge me, even though I was the only person in line. I came here on the weekend and got their grapefruit green tea. I ordered at their drink kiosk rather than waiting in line since I wasn't buying any pastries. However, the kiosk didn't give me a physical receipt for my order... so I just memorized the number. It was so busy, and everyone else around me had a physical receipt...my order number eventually came but the staff didn't believe me, but I had the number written down, had also purchase history to show. Lupe is an absolute dream example of good customer service. I am a regular and LOVE this place. So many delicious baked goods and drinks. Today I tried their sandwiches for the first time! I got the pesto which I enjoyed, but the tuna was not for me. There are whole pickles, but that's on me for not asking before ordering it. And she happily refunded me for it! Seriously epic bakery! Their cakes are amazing! I've ordered birthday cakes from them and have never been disappointed! We've tried their strawberry as well as their Black Forest cakes.
