Truth be told, though I like to wander through the showrooms of IKEA and get ideas on how to decorate/rearrange/upgrade my living quarters, the best part of my visit is usually the dine at the restaurant. And more often than not I will make a stop in the restaurant just to get my fill of Swedish Meatballs. Ligonberry sauce. Potatoes and gravy. Seriously, that meal is worth getting every time. Somehow the mixture of the savory gravy and meatballs forms a delicious union with the ligonberry sauce and potatoes. I sometimes secretly wish for more ligonberry sauce, but the portioning depends on who is serving you your plate. Though I've tried other things in the cafeteria-style restaurant (salad, chicken and fries, etc), the main selling point are the meatballs--for a fair price I might add--so I rarely think about getting anything else. The 99 cent breakfast plate is a steal in the mornings if you want a good cheap meal. I definitely prefer eating upstairs than at the food bar after the registers downstairs. read more

The kids meals are well priced at $2.49 although they no longer come with a drink. I personally think their salads and beverages are over priced, but you can get a free hot tea or coffee with your rewards card. Look on their website for their current specials for deals. Nice little restaurant inside store. The breakfasts are the best deal. 75€ coffee, 99€ basic breakfast, and spend a little more for pancakes or waffles or cinnamon rolls( these are the bomb!) I try to come here with my daughter every month or so and never spend more than $5-7. The only thing is they're only open for breakfast from 9-11 am so that's a small window. I've also had their chicken wraps, Swedish meatballs and desserts. I have been to a buffet event before, and while it is inexpensive, there is not much selection but you can pig out on smoked salmon and fruits and other Swedish fare. Definitely worth checking out for breakfast if you can get there between 9-11am. The small snack bar near exit has 75€ hot dogs that are decent and you can buy a tray of cinnamon rolls for $4. There's also food items for sale to take home and prepare. Oh yeah don't forget the 99€ chocolate bars that come in milk, dark, and hazelnut!! I'm embarrassed to admit how often I come here. But it's hard to beat a $1 breakfast. They don't open until 9:30, so it's actually a second breakfast/brunch for me, but who's counting? They no longer advertise the $1 breakfast option, but they'll still give it to you if you ask for it. You get powdered eggs (must drown in ketchup because they're not delicious), fried potatoes (must drown in ketchup because they're absolutely delicious), and two pieces of bacon or sausage (which I sub out for more potatoes because, as I think I've already mentioned, they're delicious). If you pay $2, you get the addition of two crepe-like pancakes with ligonberry sauce. They're actually quite good and probably worth the price, but somehow a $2 breakfast is just not as magical as a $1 breakfast. I'm not a fan of their lunch and dinner options, but one of my cousins gushes about the meatballs, so your elementary schooler may love those. Overall, you get what you pay for. Eating at the IKEA restaurant is definitely not the first thought I'd have in my mind but wow. These guys have it figured out. The food is good and the prices can't be beat. This am, 4 of us are for less than $10. We each got their breakfast combo with turkey sausage, scrambled eggs, Swedish pancakes (similar to crepes) , and homestyle potatoes. It was delicious and I devoured my plate. There was a huge crowd too for the cafe at the moment the store opened. My tip is that if you'd like to go for breakfast wait until about 30-45 minutes after IKEA opens and it should clear out enough for you. I came here to buy a floor lamp. The floor doesn't open until 10am, okay, perfect. I haven't had breakfast, I'll just grab it over at the restaurant kiddy corner to the queen size bed and desk chair exhibit. I got a medium breakfast, and I know not to expect much. Eggs, Swedish pancakes, Vegetarian sausage, and home fries. First of all, the swedish pancakes weren't cooked through, they were soggy in the middle. And the jam they provide and decide to plop on top has a terrible flavor - Extremely sweet into a terrible bitterness. I can still taste the jam. I'm getting woosie even thinking about it. The potatoes, flavorless. The sausage, smells like an unbathed crotch and doesn't taste much better. The eggs, fluffy, but i'm betting came in large liquid containers or as a powder. Oh and garlic bread, let's just say no. I don't mean to destroy IKEA, I love the place. Just please stick to furniture not food. I feel like you're cooking us stuff you found in your couch cushions. For all you new people like me... this is actually located upstairs to the right! They don't sell these at the snack bar downstairs. Any who I love their Swedish meat balls combo and mac n cheese. Done and done haha. I do contribute to their stereotype but theresnsomething about their fluffy mashed potatoes and their delicious gravy. I also really enjoy their cranberry, my boyfriend thinks it's too sweet and cranberry like but honestly, I wouldn't mind eating this for my thanksgiving dinner. This was an interesting trek, to say the least; the goal was to go to Dave and Busters around the corner for fun and food, but as we should have known, Saturdays are filled with massive customers and lines out the door. The SO had never eaten at IKEA (sacrilege), so we skipped the D&B trip and headed for the furniture restaurant to best all furniture restaurants; highlights are as follows: Day: Saturday Time: 8:10 p.m. Crowd: Thin Food Selection: Non-Existent Thankfully, the restaurant is right at the top of the entrance stairs. The SO was skeptical the whole time, but I big upped the available food selections. Unfortunately, and unbeknownst to me, the restaurant closes at 8:30 p.m. Saturdays. We picked up our trays, and to my disappointment, most of the dessert, salad and wrap selections were VERY limited, if not gone completely. I had faith for the hot food selections, and was excited to see they served vegetarian meatballs (I've been on a plant-based diet lately). I asked (who looked like) the chef what all was in the vegetarian meatballs, and instead of answering, he asked what I was looking for; I replied "a vegan option" and he said something along the lines of "this is it/this will do." It was a strange interaction, as I didn't press him to answer my original question. I, for example, don't mind onions, but am not always a fan of corn, which happened to be in the vegetarian meatballs. Had he answered my question...I digress... At checkout, the rep was friendly, but they were out of dessert plates, so I had to put my small almond desserts in a cup. Also odd. The SO ended up with a buffalo chicken wrap and a regular order of the Swedish meatballs (which he surprisingly enjoyed); the cous cous and vegetarian meatballs I had were flavorful, but I don't forsee myself ordering them again. We also had a sanitation worker "remind" us of the restaurant closing time as she sprayed the tables a few feet down from us; however, I didn't see her remind the other two families so...also weird... I've never been to IKEA before and I've always been curious to see how cool this place really was... I finally went with my boyfriend and his family and I was starting to get hungry after walking around so my boyfriend and I decided to stop by at their restaurant to order something small. We wanted to make it in time for their lunch special with pasta, but even though we got there in time the line was so long that by the time we ordered it was too late. So instead we ordered their Swedish Meatballs to share. I was surprised at how much I liked them! The meatballs were yummy and I enjoyed the mashed potatoes and vegetables that it came with, especially the brussel sprouts! The lingonberry sauce that it came with was also really good. I wasn't sure what to eat that with, but my boyfriend and I just ate it by itself and it was nice and sweet! Located upstairs, this IKEA restaurant is run cafeteria style. The Swedish Meatballs are really the best items on their menu. Once you have it, it's hard to order it without the Lingenberry sauce. Their vegetable-based dishes have a rubbery texture that reminds one of elementary school lunches, and their desserts are so mass produced they taste like sugar and air. Since the restaurant is popular, seating can be limited. So make sure someone in your party is willing to look for a seat while you order. Don't worry about carrying multiple trays as they provide carts for that. But when it gets busy, people will hawk over you or stand behind you when they see that your dish is almost empty just so they can take your seat. This can be super annoying, especially when you're exhausted from shopping. Once you're done, you bring your tray to these bins by the drinks where you insert your dirty tray and cups. The pretty really cool thing about the restaurant is the deal they put with the store. If you're planning on spending over $100 at IKEA after you eat, make sure you get your receipt and a coupon from the registers when you check out at the restaurant. When you're done shopping at IKEA and you've spent over $100, give the cashier your coupon and receipt from the restaurant and they'll deduct that amount from your total. Alright. I'm either bougie or this meal was genuinely gross. It probably didn't help that I had lunch at Tender Greens earlier either but anyway, I came here to grab a snack with a friend after browsing IKEA for an item for her new place. I recalled a co-worker a while back raving about the meatballs, so I ordered the chicken meatballs meal that came with mashed potatoes, gravy and lingonberries for under $6 or something ridiculous like that. I kept eating them hoping they'd get better and eventually stopped and just couldn't finish. It just wasn't good. Tasted meat-like, not like meat. I would have preferred McDonald's chicken nuggets. My friend ordered the veggie wrap and found it to be ultra dry and lacking what I'll call "food glue". It needed some kind of sauce. Sadly, it got tossed too. I did however, like the lingonberries that came with the meatball meal, but that's not enough to get me to come back. It all reminded me of the cartoon, Doug, and his loathe for liver and onions. While paying, the gentleman working at the cashier, CJ, asked if I was vegan and informed me that the sauce was vegan-friendly. (Most employees at high-scale restaurants are rarely this informed)!He then went back to the food line and brought back a cup of the sauce for me. Outstanding service! The veggie balls and French fries were better than I was expecting. Even though my meal only cost $3 and change, you could taste the quality of the food and I was full for quite some time afterwards. Given that I was raised in Sweden, I'm a total IKEA snob since the Scandinavian IKEA's are very different than the U.S. stores. However, since it's the closest thing I can get to the real thing, I still really do love IKEA and go there often. The meals at the restaurant don't taste the same and they skimp out on the sauce and lingonberry and give you mashed potatoes instead of whole potatoes--they used to have whole potatoes years ago, but replaced it with mashed potatoes. In Sweden, the traditional meal comes with whole potatoes....but I'm not going to split hairs over it :) Whenever I'm homesick or craving Swedish candy, I load up on the salty licorice fish or the Kakaoboll--I'm addicted to both! I love walking around IKEA whether I'm looking for new furniture for the house, or just passing time. My favorite part about my IKEA visits is stopping at the cafeteria! Since I was a kid, my mom has been feeding me IKEA meatballs for as long as I can remember. I live in north county, but recently moved into a new place, so that called for frequent IKEA trips and I ate at the cafeteria every time lol. You can't go wrong with the meatballs, super affordable and super good. Then the pasta is surprisingly great. It's crazy that this cafeteria style food could be so good. I like the new "restaurant" upgrade to this place. I remember several years ago, it was a headache to come in here and purchase food because it was soo disorganized and finding a seat was a pain in the butt. The aesthetic of the "restaurant" is more clean and streamlined. It is still a cafeteria style setup though I am happy that there are more entree, dessert, and drink options than the standard meatballs and lingonberry fare. I can even appreciate that there is a little 3 plate/dish cart or whatever you call it that you can push through in line and get your +2 their meal while they're waiting for you at the dining area. Sometimes, I just come to Ikea for a quick, affordable food fix with my family or friends than actually purchasing anything at the store, though optional. This place is definitely a kid friendly area. My go to dish is *feigning shock* NOT the meatball dish (that's my kids' dish), its the smoked salmon salad (aka Lox salad) and their soup du jour. Its fresh, delicious, and the reason why I keep coming back. Their freshly made vegetarian wraps and shrimp sandwich is a close second. I'm not even gonna comment on their super affordable dishes like their breakfast and anything less than $3 on the menu. Come on now, get real. Although it was a good value, they have definitely raised their prices over the years. Food was tasty and good fuel for us before our shopping extravaganza. I like the modern design of the seating area but wasn't a fan of their non existent service. No one even told us where the salad dressing was. They could definitely improve this. My wife and I stopped by for lunch and a brief respite from the shopping maze that is IKEA. We barely beat the usual lunch rush, and were able to get right into the cafeteria line. I chose the chicken meatball special ($4.99), which included mashed potatoes and lingonberry sauce alongside the 10 or so meatballs. A good meal ! The chicken meatballs were a wee bit different from the regular Swedish meatballs served here, but they were good, as were the potatoes. And I love lingonberry sauce. I didn't care much for the texture of those meatballs, but again, no surprise there. She loved them. Never are the utensils actually available (especially the forks), the serving area to the dining area have a crap ton of stains, dirty plates, and gross tables that you'd have to clean yourself. Okay, this isn't gourmet cooking but Ikea food is great for what you pay for. I came here last weekend with the guy, who's never eaten at Ikea. I ordered their fish (I don't remember the name, but it was something Scandinavian, haha) and their Apple Cake (even though it looked like an apple pie) while he got their meatballs. We both really liked our food and we were satisfied after finishing our meals. One thing that you have to keep note of eating here is like eating at a college mess hall; there are trays, there are food items behind the glass counters for you to take, you have to ask the cook to serve you your entree, and you pay at the cashiers. Soda fountains and tables are abundant but there are lots of people there too (mostly families and San Diego transplants). Overall, 3 stars for food quality and ambiance. read more

After hearing many references to IKEA's Swedish Meatballs in popular culture, and Sheldon Cooper's "hankering for Swedish meatballs" on The Big Bang Theory, I urged my fiancé to accompany me for a Swedish meatball run! After Ikea ironed out the whole horse meat scare of course. To my surprise, there are a significant number of customers who come to Ikea just to eat. The ordering process is like a high school cafeteria as you grab a tray and stand in line. The ordering area is really sterile, reminding me of a clean hospital. For our meatball run, we ordered: - Beef/Pork and Chicken Meatballs: drizzles with gravy sauce and a side of mashed potatoes and lingonberry sauce. The meatballs were soft and tasty, usually Italian meatballs are more firm with breadcrumbs. They sure give a lot of meatballs (10) for one plate! - GRÖNSAKSKAKA (vegetable medallion): a potato-based dish with broccoli, leek, onions and cheese. This was a healthy vegetable option that I really enjoyed, similar to a broccoli casserole in the U.S. - Mac & Cheese: a bit bland, I feel the U.S. Mac & Cheese with the crumbled cheese bits on top tastes much creamier - KNÄCKEBRÖD RÅG (Rye crispbread): okay, my fiancé was curious and tried one. His reaction was "WHAT THE HECK?!?!" haha...a bit like cardboard to be a snack! I am surprised Swedes eat this as a snack. I am thinking we were supposed to put it in a soup or spread some jam or cream cheese on it. - Elderflower juice box, Apple Cider soda, and Lingonberry soda from fountain I had a fun trip to Ikea and can totally see why Sheldon Cooper enjoys his Swedish meatballs here! I would say stick with the breakfast ($2), lunch ($3) and dinner ($4) fixed meals as it is cheaper. The bill adds up if you add on more sides and "accessories." If you liked what you ate, Ikea offers frozen/packaged versions of the food for you to bring home and heat up, such as the meatballs and vegetable medallion. Of course for a furniture store, there is the option of eating at the high tables and barstools, or the more family-friendly tables. I read that some Ikea restaurants are introducing "Fikas," a Swedish word for "coffee break," which they set up cushy chairs and couches for a more homey, coffee break experience. I recently got back from Sweden, and it also just happened to be my first time at the San Diego IKEA. This was a great opportunity for me to compare the only taste of Sweden that is vastly offered in America to the real stuff. - Shrimp Sandwich: Always one of my favorites. A slice of wheat bread covered in lettuce, tomato, mayo, fresh egg, shrimp, and lemon. Now, your typical sheltered American is going to wonder why there's no top slice of bread, and they will eventually find out that's how the rest of the world does it. The combo of all the ingredients is great, and they always put a hefty amount of shrimp on the sandwich. - Salmon: Well cooked plate of salmon with a wonderful dill sauce. The side (forgot what exactly was in it) tasted a bit strange but still highly edible. Nothing too special here and probably won't get it again. - Spinach and Cheese Crepes: Some of the best crepes come from the most unexpected sources, and this is one of these. You get two crepes filled with an unbelievably tasty mix of spinach and cheese. To top it all off, the lingonberry sauce adds a perfectly sweet contrast. - Swedish Meatballs: YES YES YES!!!! This is the one dish that most people come to IKEA for, and I don't blame them. The meatballs are delicious, the potatoes are great, the sauce is creamy and melts in your mouth, and the lingonberry sauce just tops it off with a bang. I wish they gave a bit more mashed potatoes, but it's not too much of a problem. Also, you can get an additional order of meatballs for just $0.99. Is that a deal or what?!?! Compared to meatballs in Sweden, these come very close. Sure, the lingonberry sauce isn't as great, but this is as close as you can get in the U.S. P.S. Get the lingonberry juice. It's worth it. - Blueberry Pie: A great dessert to top off a great meal. Very smooth, not too sweet, and filled with blueberry flavor. The bottom crust is nicely textured and not overcooked. I almost felt like I was back in Stockholm when I was eating here, with photos of the great city everywhere and Swedish furniture all around. This was the first time I've ever tried the Swedish meatballs from Ikea and it tasted like I was having Thanksgiving dinner!! $3.99 for a Swedish meatball meal which included the Swedish meatballs, lingonberry and mashed potatoes & gravy and even plated with a garnish what a steal!! They also had $2.99 roast chicken meals and soups and salads if you are craving something else. Getting your food resembles the whole hospital/college cafeteria experience sliding your tray on the metal counters and having to choose what dessert or salad you want and a variety of main courses. It was kind of fun. The food is decent. I mean you get what you pay for and the meal is satisfying. I'd come here again. If you are still hungry you can go get some cinnamon rolls or a hot dog downstairs at the snack station. read more

I LOVE MY SWEDISH MEATBALLS!! I think it's kind of awesome to have a restaurant located in IKEA. It's the perfect concept. It is assembly line like a cafeteria but the food is actually better than cafeteria food. THE SWEDISH MEATBALLS PLATE ~~~ When I am in line it is my time to say how much I want or the plate will keep piling up. I get about ten meatballs and then I let "them" know that's it. The mashed potatoes are red skinned. I can see red skins inside but I think red skins have a lot more flavor the white potatoes. Before we found a seat I told my friend I was gonna snag a seat because the tables were starting to open up. I got a good seat and was just chilling waiting for my friend to pay for our food and to sit down and eat. It was still piping hot by the time my friend got to the table. After we were done with our meals we decided to leave and go home. People were piling in so we gave up our seats for that. There is a lot of seating and I like the large tables. Surprisingly (perhaps), the food here is not too bad. In college, I used to go here for their half-order of Swedish meatballs with potatoes and that lingonberry sauce, which was like $3.99 from what I could remember. Decent dinner for cheap! Like some of the other Yelpers have pointed out in their reviews too...they now give you mashed potatoes instead of the whole thing. Sounds like a trivial matter, but I definitely thought it was much better when it came with the whole potatoes. Other items that I like from there are the smoked salmon salad, the pollock fish and the garlic toast. They used to serve wine too, but I didn't see it last time I was there. I guess that's no more either. It's not a bad place to eat at if you need happen to be there (though it can be very busy on weekends). Oh...and the service...don't get rung up by Tammie at the cashier...last time we were there, she put us all on one tab when we never asked her to, and when we told her that we were paying separately, she glared at me and said, "What? I would give this a 3.5 if I was able too. This was my first time eating at the IKEA restaurant , which, as someone else said, is more like a cafeteria style than a restaurant. Regardless that didn't affect my rating at all. The service is great as is expected of IKEA and the meals are extremely cheap; at least for the breakfast meals since that is the time I ate there. There's a very easy to read menu with a very concise list of meal options. The price is cheap and ranges from a 99 cent American breakfast to the $5.99 Swedish meatball meal! The prices are very appealing for those on a budget like myself! The food was as expected for the price. Not fantastic but not bad. I would prefer this over fast food breakfast because its probably healthier and much cheaper. read more

Not only do the swedes design great furniture but they also can cook delicious food too! One of the main reasons I'm a fan of Ikea is I love grabbing a quick bite to eat in their restaurant. The food here is seriously legit. I mean where else can I get a plate of swedish meatballs and fries covered in gravy! MMMM delicious. I think everything they make there is pretty tasty but I usually always get the plate of swedish meatballs which are very juicy and flavorful. The combination of gravy makes it that much more delicious. 5 out of 5 stars! I also sometimes get the lox plate which is also very good. 4 out of 5 stars. And their fries may be simple but they are very tasty and can compete with any other fries in SD. 4 out of 5 stars. To wash it all down I always like to get an ice cold glass of lingoberry juice. Not only does it taste great but the name is fun to say. Reminds me of gummy bear juice from the old gummy bear cartoons. hehe The price is just right to keep me coming back. Very inexpensive considering the food you're getting. Another great thing about Ikea is that almost everything in the restaurant can be purchased in their market store downstairs so you can cook it at home. All in all I say if you're in ikea this is definitely a must stop. And even if you're in the area and want a quick bite to eat it's worth stopping by. read more

I really like this place and the food that they have. Shipping at IKEA always takes a lot of energy and that requires food. The chicken fingers and fries are really good here. Chase that down with the Lingonberry juice on the rocks and all is good. The prices are very reasonable for what they are offering. read more
