For as long as I can remember, it was a special outing to head to IKEA in Tempe from the north side of the city. It has been quite some time since I've been out to IKEA in Tempe but it still feels like just yesterday when I was last there. Now, there are other locations that have opened up in North Phoenix and Scottsdale. The Tempe location is HUGE! With two floors and plenty of great amenities, this store has a bit of everything. At the same time, it is easy to get lost and sometimes, it is difficult to find your way out of the store. They have a Swedish restaurant open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, Småland which a supervised play area, and a Click & Collect area available for pre-placed online orders. There are plenty of staged areas for each type of room from a living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and more along with a Market Hall where you see sections on cookware and tableware, textiles and rugs, bed and bath textiles, bathroom accessories, home organization, lighting and home electronics, and home decoration. There is also a self-serve furniture area, the as-is area, check-outs, and customer service. This particular store is open Sunday through Thursday from 10 AM to 8 PM and Friday and Saturday from 10 AM to 9 PM. The cafe is open during the same hours. They are closed on Christmas and Thanksgiving and have special store hours on July 4th, Christmas Eve, and New Year's Eve. DELIVERY WARNING: they state they will require a signature for the delivery, but they will leave your items on your doorstep and forge your signature. I was very upset recently, because I decided to buy two expensive items from this IKEA (a futon and a kallax, this is important). I paid for delivery because these are heavy and I wanted to have the delivery person bring them inside. I also paid for delivery because there is currently active construction on my street, so I wanted to sign for my items and inspect the order being delivered. I simply received an email stating my item had been delivered. Attached to this notification were photos of everything on my doorstep, and an obviously forged signature (which is a felony). When I inspected the items delivered, there was a sticker that said "do not build - sub klippan" and sure enough they had substituted my futon for a sofa. It became clear the delivery driver opted to forge my signature and forgo an uncomfortable conversation about the unauthorized substitution. I did get refunded for the item and delivery fee, but only after I argued. They first offered me a $30 IKEA gift card, so if you find yourself in this situation do not relent! read more

I've spent thousands here, but after today, I'm done. This wasn't just "bad service"--it was a masterclass in corporate inefficiency and a total lack of basic operational competence. ​We found two chairs--clearly tagged at a $120 discount--and a coffee table. We couldn't find the aisle, so we found an employee. She was helpful enough, but she set off a chain reaction of misinformation. She told me I'd pick them up at the window and--crucially--that the price adjustment had to happen at the register, not the service desk. She also confirmed they were the last two in the store. ​Then the "Calculated Inefficiency" started: ​The Register Runaround: I waited 15 minutes at the register only to be told the exact opposite: "We can't do that here; go to the service desk." When I pushed back, they pulled us out of line to "fix" the order. ​The Double-Wait: They couldn't fix it. They told us to check out normally and then go to a back desk. So, we waited in line again. ​The $5 Audit: After scanning 50+ items, the system dings. The cashier makes my wife stand there for another 10 minutes rescanning every single item over a suspected $5 discrepancy. We checked the receipt later--nothing was missing. A massive, bureaucratic waste of time. ​The Final Insult: We get to the separate desk to finalize a $1,700 order. The employee takes all my info, tries to place it, and then realizes--surprise--they're "out of stock" but might have them tomorrow. No guarantee on the discounted price. No offer to deliver. No accountability for the fact that their system "reserved" items that didn't exist. ​I spent nearly an hour just trying to give you money. You couldn't even manage a basic raincheck or a delivery for a loyal customer. Your "automated system" is a joke and your internal communication is non-existent. ​I'm not coming back. I value my time and my sanity more than your flat-pack furniture. Absolutely abysmal. read more

One of my biggest tips to people... use the app. It's very helpful in terms of finding things, viewing the options, and just a lot of subtle things throughout IKEA. Lately, when I go, I don't even walk into the showroom unless there's something I wanna see in a room. I typically head directly down to the warehouse, find my aisle/bin, grab my cart, and get it loaded. Depending on your style and ability to assemble, a lot of the items are really good. I"ve bought a few things and been done with real quick, but I like all the options they provide and the variety of styles. I do wish they would do something to improve the speed of checkout as it seems as though there's always only a handful of registers open & a long line of people. IKEA is the greatest furniture store. I've been shopping here since being a teenager. By the way, this is their 40th anniversary and they are having a special sale to celebrate. There are so many creative innovations coming out every year by the IKEA designers and engineers. You can find a perfect, useful and efficient fit for all your small or large apartment, dorm, house, or office needs. I think they've mastered the hideaway space saving designs for dorms and small apartments. Usually the look of the furniture and textiles is clean, modern Scandinavian or traditional Scandinavian. Most furniture is bought un assembled with clear, easy to understand instructions and tools necessary (mainly Allen wrenches) sometimes you need to use your own hammer. Sort of like building a new Lego set for grownups. My all-time favorite item is the Billy bookcase. This is a mainstay of IKEA. There are so many colors, sizes, doors, and options for customization. IKEA has a two-story layout. Many customers joke that they get trapped in the maze as they move through the different sections and set ups, but if you look closely, you will see a door marked shortcut that moves through the store and will bring you to the escalator or exit. The top floor consists of display rooms with everything set up for you to see how it looks and works, couches and chairs, kitchens, and the kitchen custom order section, a kid and baby section, bathrooms, closets, dressers and bookcases, and last but not least, the Swedish bistro that serves famous meatballs with Lingonberry sauce, smoked salmon with potatoes and salad, and many other good items. There's seating in the bistro to rest or eat. If you get the free IKEA rewards family membership every time you visit IKEA, you get free cups of coffee. The bottom floor has customer service check out registers and another café and market, along with bathrooms and the elevator and escalator entrance and exit. There is a lot of kitchenware, textiles, home organization, small items and details, candles, frames and lamps, and plants. This opens up into the large warehouse. As you make your way to the exit, any large furniture items for assembly will be placed in this warehouse. Grab a cart as you enter and also a bag if you need it, to hang on the front part of the cart. I'd recommend taking a picture of the tag of any item you want and this will list the aisle and bin number for the piece you're looking for. Find your aisle and pull your piece. After this, you're pretty much to the exit. There is an as-is section to the right for more deeply discounted pricing. There's a self checkout and a full checkout area. Scan your IKEA rewards family QR code here as well to collect points. They used to give you a percentage discount on every purchase with this rewards card, but they must've stopped doing that this year. I was disappointed about that. If you have a lot of heavy items, you can grab your car and pull it up to the front parking near the exit for loading and unloading. IKEA provides twine and trash cans nearby for your convenience to tie down any pieces for your drive home. Another excellent plus about this store is that they have a kids' play area located at the entrance under the escalators that has a lot of fun play equipment and attendants. I rarely left my kids with babysitters but when I went IKEA, I always let them play in the kids' play area and felt safe that they were being watched in a locked and guarded room. The kids also really loved it. Afterwards, we would go upstairs and eat lunch together in the bistro. Very good memories and it gives busy parents of young ones a nice break while they are trying to shop for furniture for the house. Another really great plus about the store is that they keep their prices extremely affordable and reasonable. They give high-quality options and they also give low quality options (for example, particleboard instead of real bamboo) so that if you need to furnish your apartment and you're just starting out, you are just as able to shop here as if you are established in a home and have more spending money. Like all Ikeas they can be a mess to navigate through due to all the rooms, furniture, hallways etc. This Ikea overall was decent but its nothing super special or different from the other Ikeas out there. It still has some good things like it's fun to walk through and see all the furniture. And of course there is the restaurant too which is overall good but now expensive. The service overall is good and friendly at this Ikea there is nothing to complain about there. There isn't much else to say or complain about other than it be nicer if there were more bathrooms and easier to find at this Ikea as it was a pain to find one. read more

What can be said about IKEA that hasn't already been said. I've been shopping at IKEA since I was in college back in San Diego. I can afford more expensive furniture now but some things really don't require it be fancy or expensive. For example I came in to get a shoe cabinet for our entry way. No need to go crazy with an item like that. I want something cute, functional, and cheap. Overall I enjoy walking through the store for some ideas on space management since they show many items to help with small spaces. When I came this time it was Monday around 5:30pm. It was so pleasant to shop, it was dead!! I loved it. I avoid the weekends here as it can be a zoo. I had to return a lamp that I didn't like and the person helping me was super friendly and efficient. She gave great customer service. Overall, most of my ikea items have stood the test of time, but every once in a while a product will be a dud. They also have a fantastic plant section with nice pot and live plants. I am admittedly an addicted plant mom so I have to be careful with that section. Anyway, hope you enjoy your next trip to IKEA as much as I did on mine :) I read the one star reviews and it appears that buying anything from them from delivery is not a good experience. I only come here for items that I can carry out and load onto my truck myself. So, that is what I'm reviewing. Going to the store and not needing any from assistance from a human. It was hot when I first visited. I think their air conditioning was broken. I was sweating a lot. The cashier was also using a portable fan. The second time I went, it wasn't so hot, but still a complete maze. Their ice cream machine was broken but it has since been fixed. Loved looking at the kitchen supplies and they have a great restaurant upstairs. The restaurant has a lot of tables and chairs. Wish they had the chicken meatballs offered. I can't even remember the last time I've been to an IKEA and since hubby's never been to one, we decided to check out this location. When you go to IKEA, you have to try their famous meatballs. Plate of 12 meatballs with gravy, mashed potatoes, peas and lingonberry jam is only $9.99. The restaurant is cafeteria style with self serve fountain drinks. They even sell plant based meatballs and kids meals. It's certainly not gourmet but I think it's a fun experience. I like to walk around this huge store to look at all the set up of rooms. You can get some great ideas but I've never purchased any furniture as they're pretty basic and more appropriate for college and young adults in my opinion. I wasn't expecting to find anything but was actually very surprised to find a couple of large beautiful prints I loved and found couple of frames too. Also grabbed a few drawer organizers. You can find almost everything you need at IKEA for your home or office. It's just fun to walk around and see the items they offer from small night lights to big furniture. They have a food court as well and as "as-is" section. We spent about 1.5-2 hours walking through the store and bought a bunch of items for our kitchen and bathroom. Huge parking lot too. We went to return a couple of picture frames. They had misters at the store entrance and that felt refreshing. The return was easy and seamless. There is a restaurant upstairs and I've had their famous meatballs but never really paid much attention to their cafe downstairs. I was curious what the cafe had to offer and saw that a hot dog was only 75 cents. So I thought what the heck let me try one and wifey chose their plant based hot dog for 70 cents. Well, they were both pretty sad looking. Both were pretty tasteless and the buns were very dry. They were the worst hot dogs I've ever had in my life. Wife took one bite of her plant based dog and said it was awful and she was done. That's saying a lot as she loathes wasting food. I think I will stick with the upstairs restaurant next time. Hadn't eaten or shopped here in a long time. Now I remember why lol. We tried the Swedish meatball plate. This was very mediocre in the sense it had no real flavor and it was cold. The Mac and cheese was super bland. The rainbow cake was dry and the icing was very sugary. The only good part of the food was the lentil soup. Even the garlic bread was a bit over toasted. As for the food it felt like hospital food. The other reason I I didn't like coming here was the mouse maze to get to the end. I would not come back but the wife enjoys walk. Holy moly IKEA!!! What has happened to your customer service? I haven't been here in maybe two years?! I needed to replace some rugs, duvet covers an pillow cases. In the duvet area, I found a tweed-like cotton duvet that was SO soft...but there were none left except the display model. No problem - I'll buy that one. I hung out in that section for about 5 minutes, certain I'd see an IKEA employee who could help me. This "last of its kind" duvet was attached above my head, to a wire display w/ a plastic tie. Finally I called IKEA's main number, talked to someone, possibly in another country, but she assured me she'd call the store & get someone to help me on the floor. Fantastic! In the meantime, I climbed up on the shelving to try to disconnect this particular duvet cover. But all I had were another customer's keys. This thing was attached for dear life. I climbed down & waited prob another TEN minutes. Finally, I just climbed back up on the shelving & managed to get it loose. If nothing else, don't they have cameras of the different areas to see a customer climbing a shelf? Which would then initiate a sales person zipping right over to take care of this situation. Negatory. Are the shelves a mess from me climbing? Yes they are. Could I have fallen? Possibly, if the shelves gave way. Was there a pillow case that went WITH the duvet cover? Yes. Was it also attached? Uggggggh yes. This time I went down to the front & talked to someone in the "as is" dept, gave him the story & he said he'd send someone up there to meet me, to help me get the remaining pillow sham. Do you know how annoying it is to have a cart full of stuff & head back into the IKEA labyrinth to get to the duvet area? Super annoying. But I did b/c that's how much I wanted the matching pillow sham. I got to that area & stayed put, waiting for a yellow-shirted IKEA person. No one came. Again, after 10 minutes, I climbed up there & found a way to get the pillow sham loose. In ALL the times over the years that I've shopped at IKEA, I'm usually up to my ears in IKEA workers, asking me if they can help me or am I looking for something specific, etc. Its been a hallmark of their stores: tons of friendly staff members. But today, the floors were empty. The only time I encountered any staff was at the checkout at the end. Actually: shout out to the young man in the "as is" dept b/c he was super responsive, pricing the duvet cover and a coffee press for me. In the big picture: Please hire more people. Please bring back the level of customer service you are known for. Please don't make customers climb shelves to get what they want to buy. This was truly a ridiculous experience. read more

IKEA always has good deals and I always stop by the "as is" section before leaving just in case there's some killer deal waiting for me. Previously, IKEA had decent products and their service was good. Recently after online searches I decided to buy a bed. Wanting to see it, I drove over an hour to check it out. Deciding to buy, I went to their storage/distribution area to find the necessary boxes as they were stored differently. The product indicated there were 2 boxes required. To make sure I had everything needed, twice I checked with staff. They assured me I only needed the 2 boxes. Another employee then said I need slats for the base, which was included in the price. I thanked them & checked if anything else was required. They said no. The next day, while assembling the bed, the instructions indicated a center support, which I did not have. I called customer support and was told I needed the support and it was another $15; I asked to have it shipped to me free, since I had a long ride and they did not indicate it was needed. They said no. I went to the store and asked get it gratis since they should have told to get it. Also, if necessary, it should be part of the price, not an additional purchase. Overall, a very unpleasant experience. It did not encourage me to shop there again since the staff was unhelpful and did not provide correct information. read more

Probably like most people I have a love, dislike relationship with this company. Upon return without a receipt, after paying with a credit card, customer service can't find the order or refund by scanning the item like every retailer in business today. Plus couldn't explain how an electrical dimmer works. Turns out I have to buy at $35 controller to dim, even though the description of the light says dimmable. Words don't mean the same here apparently. My drawer cabinet wouldn't align properly and I had to use nails to align it. I do like my cabinet and light I bought there. read more

I haven't been here in 13 years, so I'm reviewing this as practically a new customer. It's still the fun maze I remember it to be, with several sections dedicated entirely to show rooms and decor (some of which you can buy on the spot for smaller items). The rest will have labels directing you to the sections downstairs. Along with a children's section, there are toys displayed throughout the store. If your child is into stuffies and doll houses or play areas, this is a good place to find it. The restaurant is decent and roomy. It's a cafeteria where you can grab salads from the displays while the entries are served to you by the line cooks. I found out after I ordered if there's something you don't like as a side on one plate, they will swap sides if asked, so that's good to know for next time. The meatballs are pretty good, the mashed potatoes okay, and the peas were a little overcooked. Loved the Greek salad and liked the sparkling peach water. A sign above lets the customer know the restaurant has cut back on sugars, which made me brave enough to try the water (though if you're diabetic, be cautious and research the sugar). Some prices were lowered (I imagine due to Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales post thanksgiving, so we found a couple of fun items to add to our collections. For me, the magic of IKEA is imagining what your house could be like, regardless of space. With my husband and I looking to settle down in the next few years, this was a fun way to go on a normal, quiet date, enjoy the food, and look at everything we don't need while planning ahead for our future. There were employees around, helping customers, so that was nice to see. IKEA is always an adventure for me. I like how clean and spacious it is. But I do get lost from time to time. I think that is the part that is fun for me. I like to grab breakfast early in the restuarant, and then head into store to pick up a few things. I have a few bookshelves and furniture from this place. I also like picking up some kitchen gadgets, picture frames, wall décor, and storage containers from the marketplace. On my way out, I will stop in the little grocery store in the front and pick up some swedish meatballs or a cinnamon roll. IKEA has been the world's largest furniture retailer since 2008 and opened in Sweden in the 40's. There are locations all over the world. This location is in Tempe near the I-10 freeway. IKEA is known for their modernist furniture designs. Most of the things I have had to assemble has been easy to construct. Nevertheless, as I said, likely to find what you're looking for. I was looking for the most inexpensive shelf I could find. I did, $15 here and I managed to go directly into the marketplace floor instead of getting lost upstairs. As I said, I knew what I was looking for. There's a tremendous amount of inventory here and it's a bit daunting to navigate. It's perhaps an ideal place o shop if you're looking to furnish a college room or your first apartment, but in my experience, furniture is not well made and isn't very stable in its construction. I found that the composited wood used for many items requires bracing. They do have a lot of cool accents, lamps, lights... things that almost any house can use. The facility is huge and can substitute for a walking path or golf course if you want to get a few miles of walking in, especially in the Phoenix heat. Be very careful taking your purchases to your vehicle. Many drive far too fast and recklessly in the parking lot. read more
